SeoulMates: A Hot & Hilarious Romcom for Your K-Drama Heart

Rate this book
Morgan Asterman is coping with her new plus-sized life.

Jiho Park is coping with falling hard for Morgan Asterman.

Situations like this don’t happen to girls like Morgan Asterman. A bigger girl—this new title of hers made abundantly clear when she buys a pair of size-sixteen pants. She has to, though. In three months, she’s moving to Seoul, South Korea—a land full of outrageously gorgeous people, where plus-sized clothing virtually doesn’t exist. But what’s the said situation, you may ask? Walking out of the store with her new mammoth pants and straight into the life of the hottest man she’s ever seen…who happens to be Korean-American…and works at a gym…not to mention, he’s flirting with her. Next thing Morgan knows, she’s in the last place on earth she thought she’d be. Gym membership in hand, and the sexy gym god chomping at the proverbial bit.

Morgan’s the proverbial bit…at least for three months, anyway. Besides, it’s not like anything will actually happen. Not to a girl like her.

Jiho Park never believed in love at first sight. He still doesn’t. But I want you at first sight? Consider him officially converted. He’s always loved thicker women—the last thing he wants is a woman with a body that reminds him of the grunting, sweaty gym bros he’s around all day. So the moment he sees Morgan and her glorious curves walking out of that store, his heart thumps, and Jiho Jr. stirs. Not necessarily in that order. But it’s when she flips off her shopping bag that Jiho knows he needs her in his life. He doesn’t work for his sister’s gym, but somehow weasels his way into becoming her personal trainer. And you know what? She doesn’t object. But when the woman with the body of his dreams leaves, his sister kindly informs him that Morgan’s moving in three months to Seoul.

Better make these three months count if he plans on ruining her for anyone else.

SeoulMates is a thrilling, heartfelt, and hilarious story. Have you ever just looked in the mirror and felt incredibly frustrated with your body image? Maybe had an ex that intentionally put you down? But then you say screw that, and decide to take on your dream job. Date your new personal trainer, who just happens to be the insufferable asshole that caught you flipping off a bag of size 16 pants? Only to fall harder than ever before for the hunky Jiho Park. Who makes it his mission to make you feel like every curve & imperfection is perfect to him.

Then read this book!!!!

Let me share up front that I’m not a rom-com genre reader, and this was my first foray into the world of spice. What drew me to the book, was the fact that the main character, Morgan, was plus-sized. As someone who is an advocate for diversity in all forms it was refreshing to see the positive (and funny) lens shed on empowering all queens to embrace their curves, in a sex positive romp. The book does not skirt around Morgan’s past issues with her own image, and appropriately references the pain and scars that both she and past lovers inflicted on her. With that said, Jiho, represents a man who celebrates (if not worships) the thick seduction of Morgan’s body. This is a lust at first sight story, that demonstrates the healing power of physical intimacy, and that sometimes an infatuation can lead to something deeper. It’s a down to earth relatable and fun read, cat and mouse quips, and lots of innuendos. If you’re tired of reading about super models and unobtainable body types, this book will have you squirm in all the right places and have you laughing a long the way.

This is a fast burn, lust-at-first sight, "I'm leaving soon" love story . I was ok with the fast burn for the beginning of the book, but I ultimately wanted the main characters to have a deep love story.

The characters are great. I related to Morgan so much as a plus-size woman with bullies in her past. Jiho deals with cultural pressures but finds a way to bring Morgan into the fold. Most of their family and friends are more than supportive of the pace of their relationship and really add to the story.

The comedy in the book had me kicking and giggling. "Jiho. Bra. Blackmail" I had a great time with the banter amongst the main characters, as well as the side characters.

Now let's talk depth...
Jiho spends time defending and building Morgan up from past hurts and low self-esteem. However, with the pacing of their relationship, it seems that they are much more into having sex than being truly intimate with each other.
***I am a lover of slow-burn romance/fantasy***

Overall, the humor and banter were great. Character personalities and interactions kept me reading. I enjoyed spicy scenes throughout. I just wish their relationship had more time and more depth.

Thank you Kandice for the ARC and allowing me to share my thoughts and opinions. Much love <3

I can not stop thinking about this book since I read it.....I mean ATE it up. The story and characters are so relatable. Everyone in their life has had a Kelesy or two. I never knew that i could dislike a character until I met Kelsey. LOL!

Kandice’s writing style is top notch. I can not recommend this book and author enough. If Kandice writes it, I WILL be reading it.

This is a great rom-com featuring diversity and a plus-size FMC.

I knew from the first sentence that I would love Morgan. She is plus size, cursing at the size 16's in the changing room as she is attempting to purchase new clothing for her move to Korea. I can completely relate to and adore her as a character.

Jiho was a great MMC and brought Morgan out of her shell. He was funny, and I liked the banter back and forth between the two.

Each of these characters was dealing with their own issues while attempting to work through them together. Morgan has low self-esteem due to a past relationship, and Jiho, as the eldest in a Korean family, is left to take care of said family.

I enjoyed getting to know more about Korean culture. Going into this book, I had zero knowledge of anything pertaining to Korea.

Told in dual POV, this is a hilarious love story where the MMC falls first and hard! So excited for the next book in the series!

Slow-burn who?! Nope. This is a fast, hot 🥵 and steeeeamy 🔥 rom-com that gets right to the nitty-gritty quickly. Love at first sight? Heck no! Lust and want-at-first-sight is more like it.

Rating? Definitely rated R! 18+ only!!

You might say I’m biased about this book because I designed the cover and that’s why I gave it 5 stars, when in reality, I rarely give out five stars. I went into reading this like I would any other book and judged it accordingly. And let me tell you… it deserves every one of those stars.

This story kept me intrigued, on my (albeit giddy and shaky) toes, smiling, laughing, and fully invested in Morgan and Jiho’s love story.

I found myself grinning through this whole book, and never once felt a lull. It was paced perfectly! The side characters were lovable and relatable; the family dynamics were comforting; and the sex… in the words of the oh-so-well written villain Kelsey… Oh! Em! Gee! The sex was hawt! Give me ALL of Jiho Park please. If I weren’t married, and he weren’t a fictional character? You know I’d purjoo… I mean… pursue 😂

“SeoulMates” is a swoony, fast-burn RomCom that had me hooked from chapter one—and as a plus-size girl, I felt seen.

I related so much to Morgan. Her insecurities, her strength, and the way she navigates friendship and love felt so real and familiar. Jiho? A total green flag. I loved how he constantly showed up for her, defended her without hesitation, and made her feel valued—not just for her looks, but for who she is. We love a soft, loyal boy.

Now… Kelsey. I wanted to punch her from the start. The mean girl energy was too real, and every time she came on the page, my eye twitched. But it also made me root for Morgan even more.

The romance is a fast burn, so if you’re into slow-building tension, this might feel quick—but honestly? I was here for the pacing. Sometimes it’s nice to have the payoff early and then watch the relationship grow.

It’s heartfelt, relatable, and filled with moments that made me smile, rage, and swoon. Would absolutely recommend for fans of body-positive, cross-cultural, feel-good reads with emotional depth.

First, let me start by saying I was selected to be an arc reader for this book and I am beyond Thankful that I was allowed to read this book!
I love this book! I love the banter between the two main characters and we can’t forget the awesome funny one-liners that go on between the MMC Jiho and FMC Morgan! I cannot tell you how many times I laughed while reading this book. It is one of the best Rom-Coms that I have read in a long time.
Kandice has done a wonderful job with the character development in this book. It flows nicely as you read further into the book. You don’t just fall in love with the main characters but their family members as well. And then there is always that one character that makes your eye twitch, and don’t worry, you will know who it is immediately!! This book allows you to learn a little bit about Korean culture, and I love that because, without that, you wouldn’t quite understand what Jiho has to go through within his family.
I love how Jiho and Morgan meet and their banter that starts immediately! They automatically have a very strong sexual connection. Morgan is a little thicker than most girls and has some self-esteem issues. And she thinks that Jiho is a sexy gym god. LOL... She worries about how Korean culture will view her as she is overweight. After meeting Jiho’s sister, Jina, she agrees to a 3-month gym membership before she goes to Korea for one year for her work. She is even trying to learn Korean.
I love the book; this isn’t a slow-burn romance. It’s a fast-paced Rom-Com! You are immediately thrown into high gear with Jiho and Morgan’s intense spicy side. You have to remember this book is perfect for a fast-paced romance because she goes to Korea in three months!!
At first, I thought they needed more depth as far as their relationship goes, and they do, but not much! They start fast and are highly attracted to one another especially sexually! And that is okay because sometimes that is how some relationships start!!
Given the circumstances, a fast-paced spicy romance is a perfect way for these two to possibly come together as a couple. Will they make it that far or will her work come between them, or will the Korean culture way of life in the family household finish what they have started before it has just begun???
Do yourself a favor and buy this book to find out now!! First, let me start by saying I was selected to be an arc reader for this book and I am beyond Thankful that I was allowed to read this book!

This book had me laughing so hard at times I cldnt breathe. Then on the twist, it wld have me bawling my eyes out. I loved reading this book. Morgan the FMC is clothes shopping because her job is sending her to Seoul in three months, for a year, when she happens upon Jiho, who is hanging a sign for his sisters gym. Jiho and his family are part Korean. Morgan decides to join the gym so she can lose weight and get fit for her new life in Seoul. The connection is instant and magical. The banter between all the characters in this book will have you rolling! In true Kandice fashion, she is the master of fun and funny! With Morgan leaving in 3 months and knowing that this is just a fun rendezvous before she leaves, but when your heart is on the line, sometimes things mean more than just a few flirty messages and dates. Their feelings for each other spark into something neither expected, but will Jihos very Korean family allow this relationship or will he have to let her go or can he stand up for her and make this work? He has a lot to think about and so many decisions to make. So many twists in this book. A couple I saw coming but some were completely shocking! I absolutely loved this book! I cannot wait for the rest of this series to be written!! It was sooo good!

OMG!!! There’s SOOOOOO much to say!! First off love the fact that the FMC is a realistic woman and extremely relatable!!! She finds her voice and herself throughout this book!! She gains the confidence she always deserved and learns to love herself as she is!

The MMC is from Korea and feels all the pressure of being the first born son! He’s feels like it’s his duties to take care of his parents (as it’s a cultural thing) and always passed on happiness because he never found a woman he loved or would pass the standards of his culture. Until he met her!

This story is a cultural difference, with self discovery, respect, overcoming trauma, love, passion and family. It’s was an absolutely incredible read for me!! And the first Kandace book I have read sadly. I definitely can’t wait to read more of her work 🫶

DNF’d. The first chapter had me genuinely laughing, and it set my expectations pretty high. Unfortunately, everything after that took a sharp turn. The FMC became increasingly whiny, which made it hard to stay engaged or form any real connection with her. I kept waiting for some character growth or for the tone to even out, but it just never happened.

I first picked this book up in May, and every time I tried to return to it, I found myself putting it right back down. The spark from the opening chapter faded quickly, and nothing that followed pulled me back in. Ultimately, I just couldn’t relate to the protagonist or stay invested in the story, so I had to call it quits.

I have never laughed and smiled so much while reading a book! Ms Coppala delivered such a heartfelt story with so much humor. Jiho and Morgan have a less that stellar meet-cute that turns into a whirlwind relationship with an expiration date. Between gym sessions, crappy ex’s, familial expectations and a scalpel you will be highly entertained and ready to pull up on a few characters.
A favorite quote:

“…I’m also just a boy, standing in front of a girl, asking her to love him.” A smile tugs at my lips, but I try to hide it—that soft, reluctant kind of grin I know he loves. The one I always give him when I want to drive him crazy.
“Is that Notting Hill, but backward?”
“You better believe it, babycakes.”

Ma’am where is book 2!!!!

this book was like candy! super sugary sweet and left you wanting more.

this was very cute, very spicy, very fun, and managed to sneak in some heartfelt commentary throughout.

as a rule of thumb i don’t go for instalove tropes, which this book is. typically, i find that it cheapens my connection with the romance. with that being said, ive read plenty of instalove in my day and in this book, i think it’s done well. i think its paired with some angst and tension that makes it work beautifully.

i really enjoyed this story and i cannot wait to read about jina and john because i know that shits gonna be good. i love kandice coppala <3

I had the honor of ARC reading this gem of a book.

Seoul Mates is an amazing rom-com by Kandice Coppala that’s got humor, heart, and a touch of spice all rolled into one. From the very first page, it had me hooked! The story is so engaging that I couldn’t put it down.

Now, let me tell you about Morgan and Jiho. Their dynamic is electrifying! Morgan is this sassy and bold woman who’s been through a lot in relationships and struggles with body image issues. Jiho, on the other hand, is trying to balance his family’s expectations with his own dreams. Their chemistry is undeniable! After reading their training sessions and how steamy they got! It makes me wanna go to the gym in hopes of finding myself one of him.

Kandice was able to keep me invested in the characters and their journey. The relatable side characters and the family dynamics add depth to the story. And let’s not forget the romance! You’ll find yourself blushing at some of the scenes, but they’re well worth it. 🥵

What truly sets “Seoul Mates” apart is its ability to tackle serious themes while still maintaining a laugh-out-loud funny tone. Morgan’s journey of self-acceptance and empowerment is inspiring, and Jiho’s mission to make her feel beautiful in her own skin is heartwarming.

I went into this book expecting a fun read, but “Seoul Mates” exceeded my expectations and earned every bit of its five-star rating. If you’re looking for a book that will keep you on your toes, make you laugh, and swoon, this is it! I can’t wait for the next installment in the series—Morgan and Jiho are definitely my new book couple goals!

Absolute perfection! I wish I knew how to get you to read this masterpiece from Kandice Coppala. I loved to the umpteenth degree Love and Defiance. So I knew this book would have quality writing. Then after reading 7% of this book I said “yup FIVE stars”.
⭐️ okay back up now! Kandice can write dirty, lust filled, smexiness and no one told me. Get your partner, significant other ready because this will have you in all your tingly feelings- wink, wink 😉
⭐️ I loved the story of Morgan, a single, size 16, young brilliant woman who finds a thorn in her side gym GOD named Jiho! He is instantly obsessed with her but there is conflict. Morgan finds him insufferable! He tries desperately to get her to look at him, go for coffee, heck he would settle for a hello. Nope Morgan has had her fair share of deplorable, full of themselves asshats so it’s a he!! No for her. 👏 👏 So why do I clap? The banter! I was literally crying laughing, smiling through the book. Morgan speaks her mind… literally. No one is spared her wraith and it’s delicious.
⭐️ This turns into a journey for both Morgan and Jiho! Morgan grows, matures, takes chances, and .. nope can’t tell you. Jiho also has had to change. Outwardly he seems perfect but not everyone sees the real Jiho - except Morgan. Cute! That will be your comment- over and over again. Until the 🥵 scenes then it’s (@$%++) 🥵 beyond 🥵 juicy, blushing 🥵. Do not read this if someone can look over your shoulder! That’s a hard 🤭 🤭 NO!
⭐️ Absolutely recommend you read this book over and over again! I know I will!

From the very first page, I was completely swept up in this heartfelt, beautifully layered story with the kind of love that feels both impossible and inevitable.

The setting was lush and immersive. The slow-burn romance was perfection with so much tenderness and tension, it made my chest ache. But what really hit me was how personal it felt. The characters don’t just fall in love, they grow, they heal, they reckon with who they are and where they come from.

Kandice Coppola’s writing is stunning—emotional without ever being overwrought, witty in all the right places, and filled with so much heart. I laughed, I cried, I highlighted half the book. If you’ve ever longed for a chance, struggled with belonging, or just needed a reminder that love can be both soft and powerful, this book is for you.

Seoulmates is a love letter to identity, resilience, and the people who help us find our way home.

Five stars, forever. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Romcoms aren’t normally up my alley for reading material but I really enjoyed this one! It was definitely giving more insta lust vibes at the start, but I was happy when that developed into a true love story between Jiho and Morgan…or SeoulMates as you would call them 😉

Not only was the romance top notch, but the banter & witty humor had me rolling the entire time.

Both Jiho and Morgan had phenomenal character development. We see Jiho go from someone who is relatively incapable of loving someone to getting on his knees for Morgan (literally). We see Morgan start to embrace herself and learn to love who she is despite all of the bullies who try and bring her down. But most importantly? They’re willing to meet each other right where they’re at and grow together.

THE WAY THIS BOOK… Miss Kandice. MISS MA’AM. This book had me wheezing, knees buckled, eyes watering—laughing like a deranged hyena on helium. I had to pause and ask myself, “Is this how I go? Taken out by a rom-com?!” I was one laugh away from meeting my ancestors. CPR? No, I needed a defibrillator and the fire department on standby. COULD. NOT. BREATHE.

And the smut? THE SMUT?! Ma’am. I had to put my Kindle down and clutch my pearls like I was somebody’s church mother. Then I found myself on Amazon at 3AM, scrolling through things I had no business scrolling through. Whether anything ended up in my cart is between me, your book, and the Holy Spirit.

Final verdict: FIVE STARS. Five scandalous, life-threatening, toy-inspiring stars. God bless your pen and your audacity.

This was a wonderful story full of a strong, self-assured, successful MMC and sweet FMC who needs a little push to bring her back to her very best after a horrible past relationship.

The spice was perfection and this was a very mature story with a great collection of supporting characters, funny one-liners and a great twist at the end that will leave you giggling like I did.

This is the perfect story for those who struggle with being plus-sized, the MMC is gentle, reassuring, without being patronising and looks to help her out without being pushy. The flow of the story was perfect, this was a quick easy read for me and I cannot wait for the next story!

This has everything a rom com reader would want. There are serious topics discussed, laugh out loud moments, cutesy moments, sexy/spice, models a healthy relationship, hilarious side characters/family members, and so much more. It is heart warming and was so much fun to read. I found myself smiling, as I was reading and laughing out loud at times. I truly enjoyed every minute of reading it. Bonus if you love Korean culture and/or Kpop! This will be part of a series and I can’t wait to read more from her!

Before reading this book, I’d never heard of this author. I bought the book because my friend did the cover art for the book. And I wanted it on my bookshelf.
I started watching KDramas in my early 20s. I love them. And this story is that, but in book form. It’s got the 2 MCs who fall in love. The ex-boyfriend who can’t stand to see his ex happy. The family members who disapproves of the relationship. The “friend” who is trying to split the relationship.
Its got everything and is definitely worth the read. Excited for the next book.
