Love a man who bakes!

The relationship between Kinga and Harlem was so cute. They were so sweet together and the fact that Kinga baked was adorable. He was caring for his niece and trying not to be a menace but people just kept poking the bear. I'm so glad he had Harlem to bring peace.

↝ I really had a good time with this one. It was hilarious and such a cute fast paced love story between Kinga & Harlem.
↝ Kinga & Harlem hit it off from the jump and I loved them together. They were both a little hot-headed but the way they poured into each other and spent time together was so cute. They were spicyyyy and were literally obsessed with each other.
↝ Kinga never played about my girl. He was a real man who was honest and spoke freely. I loved the way he handled Harlem and poured into her. He didn’t play in them streets and he had me scared a little bit. I loved Harlem for the most part but she know she should have cut them folks out of her life sooner. She was independent and feisty and I always love that in a FMC.
↝ There was a good plot in this story besides the romance but I did feel some things were undeveloped and I needed more detail but it do keep me interested to see what would happen.
↝ I loved the friendship between Harlem & Cay and also the bond Kinga had with his brothers. Aja was so cute and I loved the way her uncles treated her and took her in.
↝ Overall, I really enjoyed this read and if you enjoy fast-paced and intentional love with a possessive this would be a good one to check out.

Hum

The story had so much going on, I'm not sure where to begin. First, it was Urban lit, and a few times, I had to reread a section to get the point. The characters were interesting. The MMC and the MFC's relationship was cute toxicity. I know, that even sounds odd. Overall, the story was pretty good. 3.5 stars

This was a cute short read, I really enjoyed Kinga & Harlem’s story.

Loved how there wasn’t no third act breakup and the build up to their relationship was good but definitely gave instalove but I didn’t mind.

I loved how Kinga doesn’t play about Harlem and made it known.

This the second book I read by Kennedy B., and I haven’t been disappointed, so I’m happy about that.

Kinga is a YN mixed with old school. He was crazy and I loved it. Harlem loved it too. He had no issues handling business. I know I’m gonna love Rennix and Caya lol

This story could’ve been a 5 star but the way this author repeated the same things over and over was quite frustrating. Like how many times did we need to know he didn’t do anything for anybody other than Harlem, or that he was basically irritated by everyone other than her? That’s just one example the book was imo basically a repeat of everything was already said in the chapters before.

I’m also confused on how OA is her older brother if she has a different father. The way it was written you would assume her mother and his dad were together until he passed. How is he her older brother and his dad treated her like a daughter? Did their mother cheat on OA father or did they break up and then get back together and she had a baby when they got back in the relationship?
The transitions in this story were horrible as well. On top of that so everyone believed his brother’s baby mama just fell off the face of the earth? Nobody questioned it? To me the story they came up with didn’t make sense, and the brother just leaves only calling once after being gone for what I assume was at least 2 months? What was the purpose of introducing the kid in the school’s office and his father?

Honestly the story started off pretty good, the characters were likable enough. Somehow along the way the story got flat and boring. The MFC quickly got boring and uninteresting. We didn’t get to journey along with her in her dog grooming business (which by the way was really different) we were just told that her business was good. The MMC wanted so badly for her to see him as a menace. Idk anybody that tried their hardest to make someone believe how “hard”they are in the streets. That got annoying fast. Idk I ended up just giving up at 84%. This is more than likely and unpopular opinion based on all the 4/5 star reviews.

This book was sooooo good! I fell in love with Kinga from the very beginning!! He was so mean & introverted which is me all day so I could definitely relate!! Harlem & her dogs won me over quickly too even though she acted a plum fool in the beginning! I loved them together, they meshed so well & fell into sync with each other the minute they exchanged numbers! There was a lot of drama that kept me on my toes between Hari & Joseph to Memphis trifling self! This was really a page turner!! My first read from Kennedy B. But definitely won’t be my last!

The story line didn’t make any sense to me and overall it just became flat. I started to skip over some pages because it didn’t really catch my attention or brought anything to the table. It could’ve been better.

Kinga & Harlem were so cute together. They both were hotheads (Kinga more than Harlem) but I love that that fury and toxicity never found its way into their relationship. I also love that Kinga truly was just trying to mind his business, love on his woman, and bake his cakes(🤣) but people stayed trying him smh. This wasn’t a very dark or heavy read despite there being some street justice & other shenanigans. This book also served as a reminder that time & how soon certain things should happen in relation to relationships is a social construct lol. If someone is loving you right & they feel like home, you don’t necessarily have to overthink it, just see what happens.

Love it

Never disappointed. If it's got Kennedy name on it I know I'm going to love it. Kinga was Him and what I mean by him. Is he was a YN but when it came to Harlem he didn't play about her and he let that be known.

damn good

Man I loved how kinga was a man about his business what you see is what you get with him, his protective nature was really sweet, he was everything Harlem needed and she was everything he didn’t know he needed. This is a great read loved it!

We love an MMC, with a little slice of unhinged! Kinga wasn't playing about Harlem, and he wasn't playing with those folks who continuously tried them. All he wanted to do was be at home in Harlem's skin...at least we got a whole lot of cakes since they kept pissing him off 😂

Vibe

This book was a vibe. From the their first encounter Harlem & Kinga had chemistry. Kinga got rid of the trash in her life while handling his business like the alpha he was.

Harlem and Kinga

I didn't read any books connected to this one, but I felt like the author did a good enough job at explaining who everyone was and how they were connected, so I was able to easily keep up. I liked Harlem as a character, and as life would have it, I just got two puppies, so her profession and some of her actions felt parallel to my life right now, making me connect with her. Kinga was a multifaceted individual who unalived people in one scene and then baked a cake shortly after. It doesn't seem like the two would go together, but he made it work. Plus, at the heart of him was something good as made clear in the care he took of Aja and Harlem. Overall, although some parts of the book felt rushed - especially the ending - and some details weren't flushed out, the storyline was decent and kept me engaged on my flight from Florida.

KINGA KINGA KINGA .. Oh I loved him down !!! I love when the MMC realizes that that FMC will over think herself crazy and they help to constantly bring her back to the now. Her daddy proved to be that ... Aint shit. Kinga handled it tho. I would have for sure loved a part 2

This was a cute read- nothing extraordinary. A bit all over the place though- one minute, the ML is a hot head, the next minute, he is not.
Another time, he is a homebody, next he is not.

Having now done two books back to back by Kennedy B., I’ve come to terms with the fact that she just isn’t the right author for me, which is kind of sad, because the ingredients are absolutely there.

I can see the appeal. The vibe is strong: street danger, messy family loyalty, possessive men, women with their own businesses, domestic softness, food, dogs, chaos, violence, and that very specific “he will burn the city down for her” energy. I should have eaten up. Harlem is a dog breeder and business owner. Kinga is a mechanic who bakes to control his anger. There is family mess, ex drama, danger, softness, banter, and a MMC who is very much leaned forward while the FMC is more laid back.

But the actual reading experience felt crowded.

There are so many people, so many voices, so many sudden plot points, and not enough emotional weight holding them together. Characters enter with major drama, disappear, return, cause chaos, and then the book keeps moving before anything can really settle. Oden’s situation, Hari and Joseph, Zax, Memphis, Aja, the school subplot, the dog business, the street politics the random dangerous escalations: individually, several of these could have been interesting. Together, in a book this short, they start to feel like noise.

And that is where the romance (again!) suffered for me.

Kinga and Harlem have chemistry. I believed the attraction. I believed the possessiveness. I liked some of the softer moments: him noticing what she likes, her feeding him, the dogs, the way he becomes involved in her life almost without meaning to. There are sweet pockets here. But I never felt the relationship build with enough depth. The book tells me they are hooked, tells me she is different, tells me he is gone, tells me she is his constant. I needed more showing. More actual emotional progression. More quiet conversations that were not just banter, sex, or him handling something for her.

A lot of the relationship felt like aesthetic shorthand. He is violent but bakes. She is independent and tough but softens for him. He is dangerous but gentle with his people. She has an ex and family baggage, so his protection becomes romantic proof. I understand the fantasy. I do. But for me, the book did not give the relationship enough interiority to make it feel earned.

The danger also got too big for how lightly it was often handled. People are offed, cleaned up, threatened, shot, disappeared, exposed, protected, and moved around like chess pieces, but the emotional consequences rarely breathe. I do not need every violent act morally dissected, especially in this kind of novella, but I do need the danger to change the story or the characters in a way that feels meaningful. Here, it often felt like another scene of Kinga proving he is that man.

By the end, the story arrived at the expected destination before the relationship had fully deepened on page.

Still, I did not hate this. It had moments. It had flavour. It had scenes that worked in isolation. But as a romance, it stayed too surface-level for me, and as a plot, it was too crowded to feel cohesive.

Readable, but ultimately too repetitive, too chaotic, and too emotionally thin for me to rate higher.

Just my thoughts...

Kinga? Yeah… he stood on business, period. Ever since being introduced to him in Brysheer’s and Aroyal’s stories, I already knew I was going to love his character, and he did NOT disappoint. He was intentional, confident, and his level of reassurance? Top tier. No games, no confusion...just action. The way he handled problems and removed obstacles without hesitation was everything.
And let’s talk about that baking? A man who stress bakes is dangerously attractive. Harlem is stronger than me because I would’ve never lost a pound in that house.
Kinga gave “old YN energy” in the best way, and I’m still side-eyeing how he’s connected to Aroyal because that link feels real.
Now Harlem… whew. Her overthinking ssa definitely worked my nerves at times. But I will say, her love for dogs was adorable. It added a softness to her character that balanced everything else. (Still not enough to make me want a puppy for real, but in theory? Cute.)
What I loved most about this book is how it delivered a truly secure romance. This wasn’t toxic, back-and-forth love. This was reassurance, consistency, and emotional safety. At the same time, it didn’t feel boring. It had everything: family drama, real emotional depth, and just enough grit to keep it interesting.
This felt like real love. Messy at times, layered, but grounded and intentional.

Tropes
Urban hood romance
MMC is his nieces temporary guardian
He falls first and hard

I liked this one a little more than Bry’s story. Kinga and Harlem were cute. I was a little perplexed at Kinga’s name but that neither here nor there I guess lol. Kinga was on her from the moment Harlem came in his shop making a scene, but it was cute seeing him become completely gone for her. It was also really cute that he baked to calm down and control his anger.
Their spice was good, Kinga was definitely obsessed and didn’t mind being a little unhinged behind her if he needed to be.
Sora cracked me up, Caya was funny and a down friend lol, and Kinga’s beef with little Sebastian was hilarious.
In my opinion, Kinga should’ve taken Harlem’s brother out of here permanently for what he pulled, and her father should’ve been dealt with more too, and the fact that no question where Aja’s mom was and where Aiden went and why was weird and unbelievable to me.
They were a few cute moments, but there was no big love declaration again. The ending didn’t end as abruptly, but there still were no HEA vibes. An extended epilogue or something would’ve been nice.

I enjoyed reading Kinga and Harlem’s love story. Kinga was instantly drawn to Harlem when she came to his mechanic shop going off because one of his former workers had ran up parking tickets in her car and put a hole in the floor. Kinga volunteered to fix her car and pay the parking tickets because he wanted her in his presence so he could get to know her. I like how Kinga didn’t play not one game when it came to Harlem especially protecting her. I like that they had a smooth relationship without all the drama and Harlem stepped up to the plate to help him care for his niece Aja while Oden was away coming to terms with unaliving his wife and the nicca she was cheating with in their bed. It was kind of confusing that Harlem’s brother name was OA and it wasn’t explained if that was his real name or just his initials. I also didn’t like how we never knew what ever happened with Kinga’s nem mom and why she dropped off her sons never returning. I also wanted Kinga to at least find out which Ortega was entertaining their mom. So, in Brysheer’s book the twins run in Ortegas family. Aroyal is a twin and he also has twins. I hope we find out more.

Kinga is all things perfect!

Harlem is tired of being played with. Her ex is hounding her to reconcile, but how do you come back from a “break baby”. She’s good and done. She’s not looking for a man and she surely can’t see herself opening up again.

That is until she hits her breaking point, goes off and before crashing completely out…in walks Kinga. 😏

Kinga may be a YN but he is about his business. He runs his auto shop, restores his oldies and stays to himself. He does not like people and for good reason. What does he do when he meets the only person he can tolerate?

Kinga handled Harlem firm but gentle. He told her his truths and he invaded her space, luring her in with sweets. He is a dedicated brother, nephew and uncle. He surely doesn’t play about his niece, Aja. Don’t get it twisted…those streets didn’t get the side Harlem did.

This book gave me all the feels.

🧡🧡🧡Kinga & Harlem 🧡🧡🧡

Wait I was on a 8 hour flight and finished this! Kinga and Harlem definitely need a short/novella I need to see them with their own children and moved in together officially! Wait so Kinga and Aroyal are related 😳 🤔 listen Aroyal is my favorite so I'm here for it! I loved the guys showing up so happy I read all those stories. Would love to see Rennix with Caya they both crazy so 😜. Oden definitely needs his own story I need to know what he did while he was gone or you could put him with Caya since they both don't like cheaters and both have a child then sis can live the soft life.
