These books are probably too old/dated and/or not good enough to be remembered. In Norwegian at least, there was a whole series of them: The Story of… and then, one famous person from history after the other, written for children (not the youngest, but also not teenagers yet). I owned Jeanne d’Arc (Joan of Arc) and Helen Keller. Some friends had Walt Disney and maybe another. There were quite a few of them, and I liked them very much. Now, Ghenghis Khan. And reading one of these books as an adult. Such an exciting (if horrible) story. What can go wrong?!?

Well… it’s not very well written (I assumed as much). And then it becomes confusing! Too many unfamiliar names of people and places, there is little in terms of who is who. I’d also like just a little bit more information about the brutality of the mongols - not details, obviously, the books are for kids! - but just something more than a few mentions, it really doesn’t come across at all here.

Maybe it will work better for a child? My son is only two, so I’ll wait a while to find out. It really is an amazing and fantastic story, all brutality aside, so I think it might be interesting for a young boy. We’ll see.
