The raven. It’s a bad omen. Chad calls it superstition, but Romeo knows it’s a warning specifically for him. He calls himself a god among men. That’s the feeling he gets when he kills, like he’s more than everyone else. But even gods have their weaknesses. Romeo only has one. The man that put a heart in his chest. The one that made it beat. But the Chad he clasps eyes with doesn’t recognize him anymore. An accident cherry-picks Romeo from Chad’s memories and losing him is a pain he struggles to bear. He doesn’t want to be without Chad, he can’t be, which means he has to reunite the monster and the magpie by any means necessary. But his magpie has been keeping secrets. Unforgivable ones…
And so, the final installment of this gripping series arrives—and what a finale it is. Six for Gold by Louise Collins is a haunting, brutal, and beautifully chaotic conclusion that mirrors the first book in ways that feel both nostalgic and brand new. It’s a full-circle moment, echoing the past with clever parallels, but spinning them with fresh intensity and deeper emotional stakes.
The book takes us back to where it all began, yet with a twist: the same patterns reappear, but with different players and elevated consequences. This mirroring is not just clever storytelling—it’s emotionally resonant, especially for readers who’ve followed the journey from the beginning. It adds layers of reflection, heartbreak, and twisted hope.
What truly elevates Six for Gold is Romeo’s point of view in the final act. Dark, raw, and utterly mesmerizing, his perspective peels back the layers of violence, obsession, and vulnerability that define him. Louise Collins doesn’t shy away from the gritty realities of her characters—she embraces them, and in doing so, crafts one of the most complex portrayals of devotion and destruction in recent dark romance.
The love and hate in this book are supercharged, teetering between passion and madness. It’s not just about reunion—it’s about reclaiming something lost, something sacred. The writing is sharp, the tension taut, and the secrets devastating.
The raven imagery adds a poetic depth, a sense of fate and foreboding that ties into the supernatural undertones of destiny and doom. Romeo sees himself as a god, but even gods fall—and his weakness is heartbreakingly human. Chad, stripped of memories, becomes both the prize and the punishment.
This book doesn't just end a series—it carves itself into your chest. For fans of the series, it’s unforgettable. For newcomers, it's a compelling reason to start from book one. Six for Gold will stay close to my heart—a love story like no other, soaked in blood, betrayal, and the kind of yearning that burns.
When I say this is one of my top favorite books... gods, Louise hit us with this one. What a way to go out with Romeo & Chad! Seriously, we had to EARN this HEA. Now I just want to reread it...
This final installment of the series surprised me in so many ways.
I’m so happy that after the slope this series has took - in my opinion - in book 4, it started to crawl back with book 5, and now with book 6 it fought back taller than it was before.
We got one more book with Romeo’s POV after the second book, and I loved it!
This book felt nostalgic in the best way possible. Everything I loved in the first three books reappeared - the same patterns, the mind fuckery, the violence, the high stakes, the raw emotions, and on top of that, it all came back with new twists - then came to a full circle.
It was amazing to witness how from all that brutality, insanity and destruction something beautiful emerged. All the broken pieces fit together, and were perfectly imperfect.
Absolute peak. This is Louise Collins in her final form and I am so grateful that I stuck around and got to experience this series in this entirety. Getting one last book in Romeo’s POV was everything, I honestly didn’t even notice until around 30% into the book.
This book had everything the last 4 may have been missing, and served as a perfect follow up to the incredibly written 5 for silver.
I have to applaud the author for writing Chad in a way where even after he got most of his memories back after the accident, he was still a completely different character! The aura of chad was there but this was someone new, and I mean that in the best way possible. I will say, I still do not think Chad was written as someone pushing 40. Nothing about his character, before, or after his accident, really gave that but it’s not much of an issue.
I complained a few books ago that Dean was such an interesting character and it was such a shame that he didn’t come back, and he FINALLY DID!! Even though it was brief, i’m so glad Romeo got his lick back with Dean. For most of the book it really did seem like this would be the first book without a serial killer and I would’ve been 100% okay with that. The fact that we were investigating Chad’s alleged suicide was more than enough for me but I would have NEVER seen Keeley being the serial killer in a million years. It took up until her arrival at Chad & Romeo’s house for the idea to pop into my head.
Josh’s character was fully realized by this point in the book and i’m very glad. He was such a good character to have around and seeing him reach his final form was comforting in a way. Ally on the other hand, well we saw her reach her final form in the 5th book. I almost cried when Josh and Chad were saying goodbye and he said “I will find her” and Chad said “One day.” Oh my god.. the thought of him finding her body at their house one day killed me.
There were so many times in this book where I thought, damn, she’s really not gonna bring this up, or that up, and there’s so many loose ends.. but once I realized Chad & Romeo were moving to Italy, I knew everything would fall into place. I wish we could’ve seen the aftermath of the Harriet Hasting’s case being reopened in a way but leaving it open ended was the best scenario.
Damn.. this series I will admit had a rough start, whether it was boring plot lines or boring side characters; going from that to a book where start to finish it had me hooked.. round of applause. This one took me the longest to read, not because it was over 100 pages longer than the rest, but because i’ve grown quite find of these characters and it was so sad having to let them go.
(Also.. The Knights? Ugh my heart is breaking)
Highly recommend this series, stick with it!
(P.S is it selfish to ask for a 7th book called Seven for a secret never to be told, where it’s set 30ish years from now. Chad and Romeo are now old as hell, Josh is at the highest rank of his job, and everybody discovers what happens? Thank you)

I feel like I should take a moment to gather my thoughts but I always want to write reviews right after finishing a book, while my feelings are still raw and honest—so here we are.
I’m not giving this anything less than 5 stars, because overall this series was 5⭐️, and this final book was also good, unique, interesting and packed with emotions. This series will live rent-free in my head forever. And dare I say that Romeo and Chad have become one of my favourite MM couples of all time😱
But this also stirred up some mixed feelings. When I saw the direction this book was taking, I’ll be honest—I was a little disappointed. I usually don’t even mind the amnesia trope, but I didn’t really want it in this book. After all, this was the last book in the series, and it felt like I was robbed of time and moments with Romeo and Chad because of the amnesia and the plot.
Yes, in a way, this book gives just as much back as it takes as it progresses, but still, it felt like we took a step backward—Romeo and Chad had already been through so much together, and as readers, we’ve been there for it all.
I can also appreciate the plot, because it takes us back to the beginning and lets us experience part of Chad and Romeo’s story again, and it does a good job of recapping what had happened.
At least some scenes felt a bit rushed. I also think this would’ve been better and so good with both POVs.
What I really liked about this was that Romeo and his nature were strongly present, and we revisited that aspect from the beginning of the story as well. Romeo also goes through a lot of big and intense emotions, and here we see just how much influence and power Chad has over him, and how deeply he loves him.
I’m glad that Chad finally shook off the shadow that had been weighing him down all along, but at the same time, I might have preferred his story to unfold differently. After all, over the course of five books, we got a certain picture of him—his character, personality, and struggles—and then it was explained and resolved in a way no one could have expected. Yes, the plot and mystery were very interesting and unique, but personally, I might have wanted something different. Chad, after all, has been with the reader in a certain way throughout the entire series.
I love that they got their own kind of happy ending (for now), and when Chad said goodbye to Josh, I was crying🥹 I didn't feel much for Ally but Josh -and Merc🥹🥹 I love the friendship they formed.
I also liked how some things were left a little open-ended, like with Josh and his investigation and the missing persons. As a reader, it’s easy to imagine that these characters will live on and what might happen in the future. I loved every moment with Romeo and Chad. I am so sad this series is now over, but I’m definitely going to reread the whole series again in the future.

”If it’s us against the world, then the world is in trouble, because there is no way it can win.”
And there was a fragile truth about magpies Romeo had learned long ago. Their legs could be broken. Their wings could be clipped. They could be … confined. Their behavior could be … adapted. It was a cruel thought to some, but monsters thought differently. They were excited by the idea. Monsters couldn’t be broken, or molded. They were born.
”But I don’t remember how much I love you.” The last sentence landed like a punch. Romeo didn’t say anything. He couldn’t say anything, and Chad continued. “I’ve never needed to remember that. It’s something I know. It’s in here,” he touched his chest, “solid and true. Even if it terrifies me.”
“It’s kind of overwhelming.” ”What is?” ”You.” Chad licked his lips. ”Your … body. Your smell, your taste, even your goddamn voice,” he shivered. “It’s a lot.”
“The sun, Chad, the fucking sun. It doesn’t rise when you’re not with me, that’s what I found out these last few months. It’s cold, it’s lonely and it never-ending. It’s just me and the darkness in my head and I hate it.”
But one man knew his worth, and he’d never had to prove it to him. Romeo loved him for being him with all his broken parts and conflicted morals. He was everything to Romeo, and Romeo was now everything to him.
“Falling isn’t a conscious decision. If it was, it would be jumping. You fell in love with me, accidentally, against your better judgement, despite everything. And I fell for you in exactly the same way.”
I am utterly in love with this amazing, heartwarming yet heart wrenching series! The end, the end is so beautiful, so glorious, so fulfilling and so wholesome and yet so bittersweet because it is the end. The end of a beautiful love story, Shakespeare's Romeo might have a star-crossed tragic love but Louise's Romeo snatches those starts and aligns them by all means for his Juliet.
"His magpie. His Juliet. His damned detective. His Chad."
I can't wait to read more of whatever magic Louise weaves through her writing in future! Chad and Romeo's love story has it all- love, heartbreak, healing, angst, yearning, and above all they had each other, despite all odds, against all storms, there was a Romeo and he has his Juliet!
Six for Gold is dark, intense, and completely addictive. At first, I wasn’t sure where the story was going—but once the twisted, obsessive connection between ex-detective Chad and serial killer Romeo began to unfold, I was hooked.
The memory loss twist hits hard. Watching Romeo try to reconnect with the only person who's ever meant anything to him—while Chad struggles with fragments of a forgotten, dangerous past—adds so much tension and heartbreak. Romeo is terrifying and tender all at once, and it works so well.
Louise Collins does an amazing job blending psychological suspense with raw, dark romance. The emotion runs deep, the pacing keeps you on edge, and the secrets… wow. When everything breaks open, it hurts in the best way.
One of my favorites in the Magpie Rhyme series—absolutely loved it.

Best book ever, I can’t believe it has ended 😭😭😭 Chad&Romeo forever ♾️ ❤️❤️❤️ At the beginning of this book my heart bled for Romeo, him not being able to go see Chad and just waiting and waiting, damn that’s gotta make me crazy. And Chad losing his memory 😭 God my heart broke into pieces, it broke for Romeo and tbh i understand why he was angry and heartbroken because WTH Chad???!! Anyway I was glad he wasn’t suicidal. That therapist tho, tbh I never trusted her, I knew she was shady, I just knew it, I felt it in my bones, I’m so glad they offed her and the part were Chad joined🥳🥳🥳🥳made me so happy, I knew he had it in him. The end was so fitting tbh, the murder spree they’re going on >>>>> The Kinghts💯>>>>>im in support, i just wished i could read the part where they finally reach that bitch ass reporter Holly. She deserves to be offed🌚!!!!!
Seriously, this is one of my favorite series now. I devoured all the books in like 4 days because I just COULDN'T stop and what a journey it was!
Romeo and Chad will forever have a special place in my heart. I just loved how their relationship evolved. This series was breathtaking, brutal, maddening, hilarious at times, and it absolutely had a lot of twists which I wouldn't have expected.
Oh how I crave more books of the murder husbands causing havoc. These characters are so REAL to me. I love how, despite everything, sweet their relationship ultimately is. They can be themselves in front of the other, completely unmasked and isn't that the most beautiful thing ever?
Oh I'm so emotional right now. I need everybody to read this series and I'll surely reread it eventually! I can't wait to check out more books of this author!
The final instalment of this amazing series. Romeo & Chad has me in their palms ever since I first started this series and this book is no different. It is in Romeo’s POV as well which makes it so much better as well. The book was definitely different from what I was expecting but I did actually like it. Amnesia as a trope is a hit or miss for me and it definitely worked out in this book. I really liked their emotional rollercoaster and coming to the conclusion once again on how much they love each other. The ending was also very satisfying to read with Chad joining the “evil” side. Overall, love the whole series and the analogies of raven and magpies.
Imagine jumping in with everything you are and having everything yougave yourself over to disappear and your love not remembering who you are. Romeo and Chad are basically broken. I felt like this book was so intense and I don’t think I had an emotion that was not expressed while reading it. There is so much heartache. Romeo is steadfast in his mission and his love for Chad. This is a great book and I loved it.

How can a book make you shudder, but at the same time make me not want to put it down? Like a horrific car accident. You know you shouldn't look, but you just can't help yourself?!
Book 1 made me question my morals. Book 6 reaffirmed that my morals are no longer in question.
What a wild ride this was. I am a little sad, but more relieved, that it's over.
Now, I'm going to go read something else. Possibly with unicorns and butterflies.
While I believe there is one more book in this series, this one read quite like the series finale. The author did an excellent job with the amnesia trope, especially since its a trope that I'm normally not usually a fan of so props to her!
I took a star off because I wasn't a huge fan of Chad's character progression in this book. despite this, I still love this series and characters. I definitely recommend!
Never a comfortable read but compelling none the less. We largely see Romeo's pov in the story, especially how his need to be hidden compromises his ability to help Chad when most needed. The why and how that leads to Chad's issues make you think one way but the end game is quite savage and changes Romeo and Chad's relationship again. The ending reads like the end but there must be Seven for a Secret Never to Be Told to come!
This was such a fantastic conclusion to this series. You must read the previous books or you will be lost! Sp emotive the author weaves a clever, spellbinding storyline that pulls you in and keeps you completely captivated throughout!.

What a way to conclude this week's binge-read! Loved how the narrative was changed up, the trope was different and refreshing. Loved reading from Romeo's perspective again and the mystery was actually really good. Overall great reading experience and great conclusion to a series I loved to read.
i’m a mess! this is the best book series i’ve ever read in my whole life. i wish i could give it more than just five stars on goodreads, i want to make an altar and worship it😁 a million times thank you for this masterpiece!
What a journey for Romeo and Chad and what a satisfying end to the Magpie Rhyme series. I loved every minute of this entire series, as it was a perfect mix of tension, spice with a solid mystery plot. Six for Gold was exactly that — GOLD. I’m not ready to say goodbye to these two perfectly imperfect characters!
Great finale. Very interesting take on the amnesia plot. This series has had a lot of ups and downs, and I loved seeing everything between Chad and Romeo get worked out so they could have their own version of a HEA.
I loved every part of this, I wasn’t sure about the losing memory part but Louise definitely made it worth it, seeing such a raw version of the characters was great.
ROMEO....I LIVE FOR ROMEO. hes a fantastic character and has always been my favorite in this series. it ended in the best way. I love them just love them. what a fantastic series
You know what ? I usually do not like the amnesia trope because it’s such a cheap way to up the stakes in a book. This book proved me wrong. Loved it and loved that for once the villain gets the guy
