The Ildri Chronicles #2

Ildri & The Roar of Fire

Rate this book
A long-awaited homecoming stokes a shadowed forest.

After a harrowing escape from the Stoneheart palace, Ildri Ederan and Matthew Merrick return to a Treelock darkened by the Raven Queen’s forces. Shadows lurk and the wind whispers as they begin their search for the hidden stonekeeper and the Timberton dragon. As Ildri’s past and present collide, Matthew’s stalwart companionship tugs at her unsure heart. Can she trust that his ties to her are real?

Elsewhere, Kirana embarks on a search of her own for her missing father, Gavin Smith, which leads her into a forbidden forest. There, a foreign stranger with a mysterious treasure crosses her path, pulling her into a conflict beyond her reckoning—and awakening powers she didn’t know existed.

Meanwhile, Sartra, the Stoneheart enchantress, tests a risky alliance with the devious Stoneheart dragon, Ymaneen. Together, they set out to awaken the long-dormant dragons, an act that could shift the conflict—for better or worse.

As dragons stir and dark powers rise, Ildri must determine what home means and how to reclaim everything she’s lost for herself and her people. And whether she’s strong enough to do it.

In this thrilling continuation of The Ildri Chronicles, friendships are tested, unexpected alliances begin, and ancient forces awaken in a high-stakes battle for the future of elves and dragons alike.

Ildri and the Roar of Fire by Krystal Bailey, the second book in her Ildri series, absolutely swallowed me. I love a good book that so fully envelops me in its fantastic world that I feel like I am living in that world while I am reading the book. I tried to read it slowly so as to savor the story but I also was so anxious to know what would happen to Ildri next that I felt like I couldn’t read fast enough. I reread the first book in Bailey’s series so as to refresh my memory about the characters and I am very glad I did. This isn’t a book you can just pick up and know what’s going on. You do need to read the first book in the series, Ildri and the Echoes of Trees first. And while it isn’t necessary, I do highly recommend that you read the novella Mara and Ilian because in this book you learn more about Ildri’s family.

Ildri and the Roar of Fire starts right where Ildri and the Echoes of Trees left off. Matthew, Ildri and Sartra have a plan to try to defeat the Raven Queen and rescue their kin and homes. Their plan is super risky and somewhat vague but it is the best they could come up with. As they each pursue the fulfillment of their tasks they meet new obstacles and very unexpected but supremely intriguing characters. It’s full of elating highs and heartbreaking lows. By the end of the book you are left feeling a sense of loss for the characters that you grew to love and were lost but a bright flame of hope because of the new characters and circumstances. I am waiting on the edge of my seat for book three!

Wow so many twists and turns that I could not put it down! Impressive characters and a well developed story. I loved the many heroes that increased the interest in the story. Many talented elves, dragons and of course a few humans. Wind, water, ice, missing hearts, courage and fear, wickedness and bravery all combine in a wonderfully imaginative book!
I truly enjoyed illdri and the Roar of Fire!!!!

Captivating fantasy that will leave you breathless!

I could not get enough of this series! From the very first page, this book swept me into a world of magic, danger, and unforgettable characters. If you’re a fan of magical fantasies with feisty dragons, swoon-worthy love interests, and mysteries that keep you turning pages late into the night, this is the book for you!

The story is rich with intrigue and heart, and every twist kept me guessing. There are so many characters I absolutely fell in love with, each one bringing something unique and powerful to the story. I literally couldn’t put it down. It’s the kind of book that lingers in your thoughts long after the final page.

This upcoming release is a must-read for fantasy lovers, and I’m already counting down the days until the next one!

I am blown away yet again. I liked the first book a lot, but this was amazing. I want this so badly to become a movie, even though I feel like I just watched one in my head.

Krystal Bailey has an impressive way of describing in detail while continually keeping the narrative going. She transports us into another world and different realms and beings so easily it’s as if she has been there herself.

Absolutely loved everything about this book.

This book was a truly enjoyable read, especially for fans of fantasy. I loved diving deeper into the realm of magic, elves, and dragons-the world-building was rich and immersive without feeling overwhelming. Each character was thoughtfully developed, making their journeys feel personal and engaging.

The evolving relationship between the two main characters, Ildri and Matthew, was a highlight.
Their bond grew in a way that felt natural and heartfelt, bringing a swert and emotional core to the story.

Beyond the central relationship, the book is full of adventure, strong friendships, and meaningful growth.
Overall, this was a fun and satisfying story that kept me turning the pages. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys magical worlds, character-driven plots, and a good balance of action and heart.

I loved this book; it's thrilling, immersive, and deeply satisfying. Picking up seamlessly where Ildri & the Echoes of Trees left off, this installment expands the world, deepens the characters, and amplifies the stakes—all while keeping you glued to the pages with pulse-pounding excitement.

What truly shines in Roar of Fire is the character growth. We don’t just witness magic—we see it evolve, shaped by the experiences and struggles of the characters we've come to love. Each protagonist steps further into their power, and watching their development feels organic and rewarding. The magic is not just an ability; it’s a reflection of who they are becoming.
And if you love dragons—this book delivers. The lore expands and the adventure never lets up. Every chapter leaves you eager for more.

Krystal has crafted a sequel that does more than continue the story—it elevates it. Ildri & the Roar of Fire cements itself as a must-read, proving that some journeys don’t just continue, they ignite.

In Ildri & The Roar of Fire, the second breathtaking installment of The Ildri Chronicles, the saga ignites with the fury of a phoenix reborn. Picking up seamlessly from Book 1, this sequel doesn’t just raise the stakes—it obliterates them. From the very first page, author Krystal Bailey weaves a world bursting with secrets, magic, and revelations that will leave readers breathless and desperate for Book 3.

I absolutely devoured this book! It’s well written and paced well and left me wanting more! I loved the character development for Ildri and how everything was coming together in the story. I also liked how the author connects things together in a subtle way that doesn’t make plot points too obvious in my opinion. I eagerly await the next installment to see what happens next! I felt like I was on a rollercoaster reading this book but I didn’t feel so overwhelmed by it and just enjoyed the ride. 🎢🎢 I definitely recommend this sequel!
