This is a good story, with well developed characters, and a bit of drama. I thought the duke was overly cold and gruff, and found it challenging to believe Penelope fell in love with him with limited interactions. I thought his daughter was rather spoiled, but understood why she protected herself from emotions. It was an enjoyable romance between the two, and I liked watching Penelope get his daughter to open up.
The reason I gave it 3 stars is because I found it challenging to read with the numerous typos, missing words, and grammatical and gender errors. I always have to go back and re-read so I understand the error and try not to lose the flow, which was tough as the errors happened on almost every page. I received a complimentary ARC, but I am voluntarily offering my personal opinion.
Ms. Linwood has certainly took this story to a twisted road of adventure. Penelope is being forced into another marriage, her first has her saved by her sisters intervention, but she has to save herself and run from the second marriage her father has arranged. On this time she runs into a gentleman’s club ran by Duke Alexander, his solution is a marriage of convenience, he needs a woman to straighten out his daughter, who wears pants and climbs trees. At fourteen she needs someone to guide he4, but he is obsessed with protecting them, he has made enemies. Don’t think you can figure this out!
Not wanting to be forced into a marriage with an abhorrent lord, Penelope accepts the proposal of a widowed duke who needs a mother to guide his wayward daughter. She finds her new husband a challenge--emotionally isolated and overprotective. Yet, the feisty lady doesn't give up--on him or his daughter. This was a very enjoyable clean read with great characters. There were a significant number of typos, but none that truly diminished the story.
Lady Penelope makes a rash decision & runs for her life right into the arms of Duke Alexander. She is wedded to try to transform his daughter into the proper attire & there are many obstacles to overcome & both have to learn how to get along. With that comes love but it’s locked in his heart. He learns the hard way & Penelope learns thru his rules which she must follow.
Now when you know a woman has runaway from two weddings why would you ask her to marry you? Especially considering she has ran into a gentlemen's club to get away this time. Also why is Penelope running from two different men? You will need to read this very interesting story with unusual characters to find these answers and more.
Another great entry in this series. Penelope and Alexander's love story is unlike any other I've read. Not the typical Regency Romance format but something totally unexpected for me. All the characters were well written even the little dog Apollo.
This was one of those gentle love stories. No massive dramas, just two people learning to love each other, wrapped up in some side lines that could have led to problems.
Penelope and Alexander’s story is different and unique in that it shows so much of their battles and wrestling with them in a real sense. Their characters run true to form and their situation goes deep.
Wow! Please no one think this is romantic! It was a red flagged disguised as a beautiful romance. If anyone is treated with this level of manipulation and control, please see assistance in extracting yourself. Can we please stop romanticizing this behaviour?
This was a great story. It had a slightly different plot and that was pleasant. The characters were well written . I loved that it was clean, without graphic text.
