Talyn: Blooming

Rate this book
Danger lurks in the shadows.

While the war is over, things aren't so simple for Talyn. Simply returning home is misery, and soon afterward the Guardians give her a bodyguard so they can step back. A bodyguard who immediately complicates her life.

Unfortunately, the consequences of Talyn's actions are finally unfolding. Now conflict is brewing within Castra's guilds. For once, Talyn isn't a target, but that doesn't mean the brewing conflict will avoid those she cares about.

I was born in October, 1985. Not much of my history would likely be of interest, but I grew up primarily in Utah, a land of ultra-conservative people, and yet oddly open to Science Fiction and Fantasy.

I started trying to write in high school. That didn't go well, and I mostly lost the spark for a long time, only rarely finishing writing a story, as most of my inspiration instead went into tabletop role-playing games, like Dungeons & Dragons and Pathfinder. In the process I developed a possibly unhealthy obsession with elves and succubi. If I ever write a story without either, it's probably Science Fiction...and there are even odds that someone will body-mod themselves to look like an elf. Trying to be honest here.

My writing tends to focus on the relationships between characters, though it may not seem like it at times. The stories in the background are just that, a backdrop for the development of the characters and situation. I try to fully think them through, but it's not always the case.

Anyway, not much more to be said. I'm an oddball, and I know it. I'm also somewhat stunned at the success my work has attained thus far, and am trying not to panic over it.

This is fifth in a LitRPG series. Read in order.

I've let a bunch of reviews go for way to long, starting with this one. So I'm afraid this will be below my usual standards (um, did I have standards?). Fortunately, this is a long-running series and you'll know what you're getting from that experience.

I did have a bit of a struggle at the beginning because it has been months since I finished the previous and there are a lot of important side characters at this point. I didn't remember all of them or their relation to the story and their personalities. I bulled through and it smoothed out eventually, but I really wish I had a synopsis or character refresher to lean on.

This one does improve on the last a bit as it's fully framed on Talyn as part of her story. There are important side-character actions and PoV but Talyn is center stage throughout even so. Which is a good thing and I'm glad for that here. So I'm going to go with a solid fours stars. Now I just have to wait however many months until the next... Sigh.

A note about Steamy: The harem is still going strong, but it is still a bit second-hand. So there's enough that I'm marking it but it's barely there at all.

Given the author has ‘backed himself into a corner’ with the ridiculously stupid levels, I still found the book an enjoyable read, although I found it a bit tricky to follow at times. It has numerous storylines that the author switches between, seemingly at random. Also for three quarters of the book Talyn was a very minor character.

This Series keeps getting better and better

Love this series. The characters are well crafted, engaging and relatable. The story line contains just enough intrigue to keep the reader interested without being confusing and the relationship shenanigans are amusing.

Better

This is better than the previous book but I think my main issue still remains about the lack actual progress for Talyn. Though it's mentioned by the characters themselves so it feels like a plot point it's still stagnating.

Good read for a great series.

I throughly enjoyed reading this book and can't wait for the next book to be released. Talyn is an amazing character and I look forward to reading about all the mayhem and hijinks that follow in her wake.
