I should have known better than to trust the shadows at DarkHallow Academy. Third year was supposed to be my chance to finally fade into obscurity. Difficult when you're the last Void Siren in existence.
Instead, I find myself branded, bound, and burning from the inside out.
They call it the Midnight Soul Scar. A hazing ritual meant to break exceptional students. But when my scream shattered their spell, something ancient and hungry answered.
Now I'm magically tethered to the three monsters who tried to break
Dathan: a Nightmare Sovereign who feeds on fear like wine and watches me with star-flecked eyes that promise beautiful terrors.
Verik: a Hellfire Architect whose demon blood burns reality, creating doorways where none should exist, while giving me a smirk that tells me he knows exactly how to unravel me.
Evre a resurrected Bone Harbinger whose death-rune skeleton hums with necromantic power. Silent, watchful, his cold touch is the only thing that soothes the constellation of pain spreading beneath my skin.
Between us lies the Tenebris Vinculum Grimoire. A sentient lexicon that demands blood, secrets, and something far more intimate to complete its pages. If we fail, the curse branded into my flesh will consume me entirely.
I hate them for what they did to me. I need them to survive what comes next. And the most terrifying part? With each wicked vow we make, the line between the two blurs a little more.
This is a dark paranormal romance book 1 out of 3 in a brand new reverse harem romance by USA Today Bestselling Author, Eve Newton. You will come across TWs so please see inside for details.
Eve is a USA Today Bestselling Author with a specialty for steamy romance with strong female leads.
She lives in the UK, with her husband and five kids, so finding the time to write is short, but definitely sweet. Eve has a number of series, both completed and on the go and hopes to release some new and exciting projects, both paranormal and contemporary in the future, so stay tuned!
This is a brand new world that will have you going Um, what just happened, and yet I can't stop reading this. And can I name the grimoire? So I can yell at it? Ok, so we got a school with some seriously dark students who thrive on violence and chaos, and Lysethia is a Nox Siren who really just wants to learn more about her kind and be left alone....but we all know that's just not gonna happen right? Right...so we have a ton of mystery happening here and I have so many questions because hello cliffy...just know that I couldn’t put it down
I made it through the whole book, but it took me 4 days to do it. I just couldn't get into it. I was SO bored. It was like the whole book was dreary and depressing. Lysithea (weird name) is the last vox siren. Supposedly this all powerful being that everyone fears. Yet, she's so weak mentally and physically that she can't seem to do shit to defend herself against 3 guys who aren't more powerful than her. She's so disastrously needy that, even knowing she's being hunted by these guys, she follows one of them to an area she should know dampens her powers. That said, she's also so physically weak that she can't defend herself. She's actually a pathetic being. It's like she has no personality at all. I couldn't connect with her character at all throughout the entire book. And, I certainly didn't care about her.
That said, the guys are complete dicks. All of them. I know after reading this you'll want to defend Evren, but he was just as big a loser as the other 2. He might play nicer with Thea, but don't be fooled because he wants to be a god as badly as the other 2. All 3 guys are extremely powerful, yet all of them want more power? They want to be gods? So 3 guys who are never going to be satisfied. Greedy to the point of grabbing a girl (Thea) and forcing a brand on her that binds her to them. They didn't care what happened to her as long as she gave them the power they craved. Which brings to my next point. Somehow, in the midst of them stalking her and forcing a binding sigil into her skin, they decide they want her to be a real part of their lives? They want her like a girlfriend or lover? They were willing to burn a sigil into her skin that would force her to have to be intimate with them, but they want her to want it as if she wasn't kidnapped and had this forced on her? Why go through the ritual without first talking to her about what they were trying to accomplish and why? Maybe she would have agreed to it.
But what makes me madder than anything else is when the female lead succumbs to mens advances and then claims her body betrayed her. Say what? Most women are not run by their libido. Even if they have a strong sex drive they aren't going to cave to someone who burnt a magical sigil into their skin and forced a bond on her. The author uses that magical bond as the excuse for why Thea is so drawn to them despite what they did. But I can't stand that crap. I can't stand no revenge on the woman's part. The guys don't have to grovel or work to win her forgiveness. She's bound to them, so they can have her body regardless of how they've treated her. Oh, and don't get me started on her being happy they're so protective over her. It's like, yes bitch. Of course they're protecting you! You're their pathway to godhood!🙄
So, my issue is that there's no explanation for why the guys decide they want her as a girlfriend for real vs a fake forced girlfriend. Her power was why they chose her in the first place, so falling for her due to her power is lame. The plot is non existent at the moment and I admit that I really don't want to read the next book. However, I usually like books by this author, so I'll at least start the next book to see if it's worth reading or not. If it's as boring as this book, then I won't be finishing the series.

When I stay up all night reading this book and let not one but two cups of tea go cold....you know I was engrossed in the story. This book had me gripped from the very start, this is a dark academy book so don't expect rainbows here, there's no sunlight for a start! I would never dog-ear a book in real life, but I wanted to throw bookie into the eternal rivers to be damned - not to mention rip its pages out and feed the fires of hell with it... Yeah bookie is not a good bookie! Snakey snake and the raven? Now they're two constructs I love, I wanna name them. The characters are dark, delicious and downright wicked. Evren who has been through hell - literally - and cannot speak until Lysithea's song forces him to, is absolutely perfect and the way the author portrays the selective mutism is perfect imo. Verik - a demon who knows just how to push her buttons - while give the world a smirk and attitude is fun and doesn't give a shoot. Then there's Dathan - he's a Nightmare Sovereign, he feeds on fear and he gets well fed in this book, there's a lot to be terrified of - dark book remember? And of course I cannot end without my love of Lysithea - this quote sums her attitude up - 'Its a prophecy, not a flipping* instruction manual'
Run and grab this book, you won't be disappointed but you will be kept in suspense and gripped throughout the book, plus you need to find out why I want to throw that bookie as far into the river of souls as I can!
This book was darkly unique and something different. DarkHallow has some mysteries and secrets that I need to know all about. Eve has done it again with this amazing book. Each character was different than any other I have read about from her. This is a must read! It's a slow burn with tension that burns with steamy intentions.
Lysithea- I love sirens and knowing that she's a powerful one makes it so much better. I enjoyed her character and how she is figuring out herself and powers. She is an adventure that I need more of.
Dathan- I want to shake him and kiss him at the same time. At first he drove me nuts but later on we get to know him better, he isn't so bad. I know I will fall deeply in love with him, it would be easy.
Evren- I fell for him instantly. I knew I would, as soon as I realized he was mute. I love how his brain works. His little mental quips are hilarious, especially when they are towards one of the guys. I think he is more life than what he realizes. Obsessed with him already.
Verik- I don't know how I feel about the architect yet. He is just so arrogant and toxic...which lets be honest I absolutely love. I just need more convincing...wink wink. We will see.
I am obsessed with the familiars in this, I need a skeleton raven and a snake now!! The sentient book can burn in Hades for all I care... nevermind it might like that...
Highly recommend this must read book and if you haven't yet? Check out this amazing author. She never disappoints.
I absolutely loved Eve Newton’s MistHallow Academy and SilverGate series, so I was beyond excited to dive into DarkHallow Academy which didn’t disappoint. From the first chapter, I was hooked and finished the book within a day.
Wicked Vows introduces us to Lysithea, the FMC and a powerful Nox Siren. She immediately drew me in, and the dynamic with the three MMCs kept the tension high throughout. Each male lead is distinct, with abilities and personalities that feel both fresh and essential to the plot. I really enjoyed how unique their powers were, and how differently they each responded to Thea.
Dathan is the first one we meet. His entrance intrigued me, though at first, I didn’t warm to him. But as the story unfolded, he completely grew on me, and by the end I found myself liking him a lot.
Verik comes next who is brilliant yet arrogant. I loved how he was irritated by the Academy’s decision not to house him near an exit (since they didn’t deem him as dangerous as Thea). His mix of intellect and ego made him standout.
Finally, there’s Evren. Unlike Dathan and Verik, who are drawn to Thea’s power, Evren is wary. He sees past the allure to the truth of who she is, which made his dynamic with her especially compelling.
Overall, I loved this first installment of the DarkHallow Academy series. The world-building is addictive, the characters layered, and the pacing kept me turning pages without stopping. I cannot wait to see where book two takes us.

Be warned this is a dark read for a reason because it contains some dark content that might upset some folks. So read the trigger warnings before starting to read this book.
For me I know that whatever dark content that ends up in this writers books will be right up my street so I know it's all good to me. My flaming word did this book not disappoint! Orphan Lysithea (FMC) ends up at DarkHallow believing it to be a sanctuary away from her difficult upbringing but the monsters there have their own agendas and are violent in their pursuit of it. More so with Dathan, Verik & Evren, 3 guys that Lysithea seems to have attracted. Only Lysithea is not to be underestimated in this book because underneath her quiet demeanor is her own strength stemming from her own magic. She's not the prey or can be manipulated like the guy's all think she is.
So twistingly good with some great plot twists and turns that all led to a cracking brilliant cliff-hanger ending. I can't wait to get my hands on the next book now.
I’ll admit, this was a bit darker than my normal liking at first, but still Eve’s writing is just so amazing that regardless I loved it! I’d say the first 25% was difficult for me to love but then from there it got better! By 35% I was having no more speculations of if I would love it. And that’s just because the way the men were thinking of the fmc had me feeling sad, not at all because I don’t enjoy her writing! It’s just I hate men not seeing a women past what they can do for them or beauty, but they got over that mentality as it went forward and from then on was less toxic 😂 but seriously Eve’s writing always keeps you reading and interested, even me not typically liking how they were acting and making it hard for me to want to read more that way, I still couldn’t help myself because her writing just draws you in! If you’re into morally black men who would do anything for their girl, then you’ll love this!
The obnoxiously pretentious prose flop around like a newborn's head perched atop a weak and poorly supported storyline.
Page after congested page of repetitive, overly complex, sinister word vomit intended to convey the sheer nefariousness imbued within, but instead coming across like some satirical chimera of every infernal trope I've ever stumbled upon.
At one point I was like, "Okay, yep - everything is dark and oozing and spooky and shadowed and treacherous. The walls are sentient, the floors are sentient, paintings are sentient, the plants are sentient, the books are sentient, the very air you're breathing swirls with every dark emotion to ever pass through it making it almost sentient... what's next? A toilet that feeds off the pain and suffering of your intestines from your last ill-begotten meal? Perhaps pillows stuffed with the pubic hair of sacrificed virgins, whose voices cry out with injustice as you try to sleep?
I honestly didn't know whether to laugh or roll my eyes.
This book was unique and something you just didn’t expect from page one. DarkHallow has all the secrets that leave us wanting to know all the answers. However we know how our Queen writes, what’s a story without some mystery. Now this is a slow burn, but hey it has all the steamy intentions mkay… these characters are unlike any previously written which personally to me makes it even more unique. I love that each character has its own power so to speak and brings its own spark to the book. I really just want pocket sized characters of each of them for my book shelf at this point!!!
As always, we are left with our minds wondering what could happen next but also loving that we know our Queen won’t disappoint.
Well, that was a rollercoaster. Or a log flume. We have a Nox Siren, a Nightmare Sovereign, a Hellfire Architect and a Harbinger all bound together, to amuse a magical god book. With shifting corridors, an all knowing Headmaster and an array of demons, vampires and werewolves, welcome to DarkHallow Academy. A book that keeps you in its grasp until the last page, with dangerous cohorts, a sassy vampire and a quest to complete the god book. And of course, the obligatory cliffhanger you get when it’s the first book in a trilogy. What more could you want? Go read it. You won’t regret it. Well, you might, but only until the next book is released.
DarkHallow- where the monsters come to be safe....yeah right it's DARKHALLOW for a reason! Lystheia, a Nox Siren, has stayed under the radar at DarkHallow Academy for a couple of years. The last of her kind and she just wants to learn more about herself, but that would be a dull book if that was all and Eve does NOT do dull books! Enter Dathan- Nightmare Sovereign, Verik- Demon Architect, and Evren- Bone Harbinger. They want more power and Lystheia is the key...so they think, but it goes wrong and now they have awakened something that should not have been poked. I cannot wait to read the next book!
This is truly a dream come true as we get more on DarkHallow Academy. This one follows the last remaining Void Siren Lysethia. Of course the story is brilliant as I've come to expect with a lot of mystery because we love those. The love interests are equally dark, meet Dathan, a nightmare sovereign, feeding on the fear, Verik, a demon and last but not least Evren. He can't speak unless the call of the siren is there. Loved that little detail. Love that the story is unique and her best book this year so far. Can't wait for more on this one.
Absolutely a fantastic story. This is the first book in the DarkHallow Academy and I loved it immensely. This darker read sucked me right in all the way till the end. Loved reading about Lysithea. Who just happens to be a Nox Siren. She is definitely an amazing character. Personality and strength wise. We also get to meet Dathen, Verik and Evren. I don’t want to give too much away. Does end on a cliffhanger. But overall wow. Loving new series already. Now just need the next book. Highly recommend reading.
Would you make it in Dark Hallow Academy? With her past and their plans, I don't know if our FMC will! This Dark paranormal romance is checking all of my boxes and making me not be able to put it down. Lysithea had me at the start I honestly was not fond of her guys until later on, they fully pissed me off! But as things twist i found myself liking them more and more, I am waiting to see what happens next with held breath because this story is just so good. I could not put this down, I stayed up all night reading!
The concept was great, the tension had potential and the world building was initially gothic and interesting. However, two of the MMC were like exactly the sand and that annoyed me. The FMC capitulated WAY too quickly after they friggin branded her to steal her power and if made the subsequent spicy uninteresting. I was distracted most by the repetitiveness. The demon is an architect, we get it. I think this had potential and fully it could be a mistake to stop at 45%. I just don’t really care what happens to anyone but Evren.
Lysethia is a Nox Siren and believed to be the last of her kind. We have Dathan Verik and Evren and deliciously dark men that want to bond her to them to gain more power. I love how they start to see her as a queen and want to help her. When the bond they create awaken something they have no clue what is they must get certain things to help her. Don't want to give away but the book will have you hooked and the setting is something new while having aspects that you know. Loved it.
Wicked Vows was a wild ride! DarkHallow is a dark academy where the characters are much darker, more devious and oh so addicting!! Thea made my heart hurt for how isolated she is as a person due to her background and powers. I loved watching her relationship with Reena develop! Dathan, Verik and Evern… what complicated men. They are not the good guys, but Eve makes you love them!! This book entrenches you in a mystery and keeps you guessing!!
Wow. This was deliciously dark. Thea is a Nix Siren, long thought extinct, and she's super powerful. She isolates herself from others as a result of it.
Dathan, Evren and Verik are drawn to her because of her power, and they want to harness that for themselves.
I think this is probably the darkest I've read if Eve's, and I'm here for it. It's going to be interesting to read in the next books how they handle their plans for Thea, and how I'm sure they will absolutely backfire!😈😈
Wicked Vows, book one of DarkHallow Academy written by Eve Newton. DarkHallow , the place where monsters go for a dark education and a false sense of security. A slow burn paranormal RH romance that starts out with the men (Dathan,Evren, and Verik) out for themselves. Lysithea reluctantly gives into unexpected desires, eventually embarking on a dark quest with Dathan, Evren, and Verik who seek more power. Can’t wait for the next book!
I made it to about 16% in. I think this book could be great, but I truly despise repeated passages, thoughts, and/or phrases. Like ok, WE GET IT. MOVE TF ON. I just truly felt like this was going to be one of those books that cycled me to death. Or one that over explained EVERY LITTLE DETAIL and still somehow managed to not give enough information. I'll try again another time, but I just don't have the patience for it right now.
Well, technically, have you read one book(Darkhollow, Misthollow, Silvergate) of Eve Newton, you kind of read them all. Basically same story, different names, the number of men and background story might differ slightly. One weirdly powerful headmaster, with a school built above a land with old and powerful things. The girl is always meant to become the most powerful being of the realm with strong powers.
Don't get me wrong, all the books is still good, just no surprises.
Wicked Vows is an addictive read. I couldn't put it down. Lysethia is the last Nox Siren. Dathan, Verik, and Evren want to bond with her to gain more power. The guys perform the Midnight Soul Scar, but her scream shatters the spell releasing an ancient curse. They must all work together to stop the curse from consuming her.
Sit down and buckle up for a wild ride with Lysithea, Dathan, Evren and Verik at DarkHallow Academy. The guys want more power and Lysithea, the last Nox Siren is the final piece needed for the ritual. Needless to say, things don’t go as planned.
Wicked Vows is A sllllloooowwww burn Multiple POV RH with touch her and literally die vibes.
I really enjoyed this book. The plot is really interesting and so are all the different creatures. The magic system is easy to follow. I absolutely loved that all three men had separate personalities. Evren is my favorite! I also really liked that the FMC gave back just as hard as she took. I’m going to devour the rest of the series!
I don't know how to feel about this book. I normally love Eve Newton's work but this really fell flat for me. It seemed to pick up in the middle of a story and I was missing how we got to there. I had to check a couple times to make sure that it was really book 1. I gave it a 3 because I did finish the book but I won't be continuing the series.
This book is very dark, but totally engrossing! I couldn't stand to put it down and read every single, disturbing word until I got to the end... And what an end that's not the end!
This is the first book of the Cursed Darkness series and the DarkHallow Academy. It is dark and captivating. Lysithea is an interesting FMC with so much strength. It still is unique with such amazing tension. I can't wait to see what else in tale for Thea and her men.
A dark and delicious book! This story hosts a unique cast of characters that only serve to pull you deeper into the story! I was definitely surprised more than once while reading, the direction this story takes will leave you in a tailspin! Highly highly recommend!
Oh my duck! I love Eve's style and this is a fantastic first look into these characters! Lysithea is amazing! I love her strength and character! She has a long journey ahead and I'm looking forward to every minute of it!
DNF 75 percent. This book has its audience; just isn't for me. I do like elements of it. I enjoy the unique magic aspects and the abilities of the characters. However, they were underwhelming at best. No back story. It just felt flat.
