Babies and young toddlers explore their worlds through creative play. Based on the Steiner theory-the world-renowned holistic approach to childhood education as taught in the Waldorf Schools-this illustrated guide offers advice for parents on helping your baby develop mind, body, and spirit through stimulating imaginative play. Practical instruction is provided for each stage of development, centering around some 25 age-appropriate toys that parents can make at home. The playthings include dolls and puppets, knitted animals, rattles and balls, simple cars and other vehicles, blocks, and even a sandbox. The toys will stir the imagination, enhance sensory awareness, and enable children to discover more of their expanding world.
A very basic introduction to the Steiner/Waldorf method of education/child development. This book also had some instructions for simple handmade toys. I would love to make the time to make Cannon some things from felt and wood. If you're interested in making some activities for your child by hand I'd start here. If you're looking for simple activities to spur creativity this is your book
Some cute ideas here too, but more focused on wood toys. While they are simple, I know I am less likely to actually go through with making these than the felt crafts.
I appreciated the simpler suggestions for ways to encourage the baby to play. Book has many ideas for toys for baby, many of which I can actually make as they are simple sewing projects.
