Nowhere feels safe—except when I’m with you.

Vince

My life has been hell since I was abducted by aliens and sold to a brothel. When Prince Dontilvynsan purchases me, my life changes again. I refuse to believe I’m safe, even though he reunites me with my friends. But a slow trust begins to blossom as he comforts me through the near-constant nightmares plaguing me. As time passes, I wonder if I like Don’s gift—or just him? When I learn I can go back to Earth and forget everything, I have a tough choice. Stay with Don and my friends, or go home and have all that happened to me erased?

Dontilvynsan

I don’t know what about this small human calls to me like no other. His thoughts are always close to mine; I hear his fear and pain. I want to help him in any way possible, even if it means risking myself in the process. When Vince and I grow closer, the thought of him leaving guts me. Can I survive without him? Do I even want to?

This is a spicy stand-alone MM romance in the Cosmic Romance series. It’s an alien romance with a spiky human, a soft alien, overprotective brothers, hurt/comfort, and a happily ever after. This book is for adult audiences only and has explicit content. Content warning inside.

so good

Omg this was amazing! I loved every moment. The back n forth, the will they want they, all of it. Even better, was that there wasn’t any magical fix, only that they showed you can absolutely be loved and love another no matter how much “baggage” you think you have. These two were cute together. I loved their possessiveness of each other. I loved their truths and how they talked. The writing was great! The smexy was great. I loved how that played out and it was all still perfect. I enjoyed the side characters.

Things for me to know:
Dual POV
Even though they were once verse on page they are strict roles
No cheating/ no sharing
Relationship before smexy
There were a few diverse side characters I really hope we get that story.

This was so beautifully written! You can tell the author wanted to capture the nuances and difficulties with healing from trauma, and it is done so well. I loved Don and Vince! I loved seeing all the characters from the previous books again! I’m SO EXCITED to finally get Wyn and Monty’s story next!!

This is by far my favorite book of this series so far. Don and Vince don't have it easy but their care and love for each other carries them through. I really loved their dynamic and all their conversations. While it doesn't hold back on the spice a huge focus is on the emotional connection between the two of them and Vince working through his trauma and feeling safe with Dontilvynsan. There is some miscommunication towards the end and they have their ups and downs, but neither waver in their dedication to each other. Don's quiet support and comfort blended with Vince's needs seamlessly.

Really Good But Miscommunication Is The WORST

Wow this book was so good and so tough to read. This book more than the others deals with a lot of really dark themes. Vince is rescued from his captors and he is understandably very traumatized. His relationship with Don was so sweet from the beginning. I love how these books genuinely show the couples getting to know one another and fall in love. They might end up mates and soulmates but we are never denied all of the beautiful moments of them developing such strong feelings for each other.

This book deals with a lot of trauma. From Vince it comes from his captivity and abuse, from Don it comes from his own experiences with shaming and bullying for his gift. Both of the MMCs had reasons to be weary but together they were so sweet. I loved that from the beginning Vince is so comfortable with Don’s gift, it made so many of their interactions even more funny and interesting. And it was a really cool experience to read a book where the inner monologue of one of the characters was constantly responded to because the other character could hear it!

Now, as much as I loved this book, there was a lot that did not work for it.

The repetition was a LOT. There was so much back and forth and so many times where the exact same inner thoughts were mentioned over and over. Then there is the boatload of miscommunication that happens. Right up until almost the last page, there is miscommunication happening. This book could have been half as long if the repeated monologues and the miscommunication had been left out.

Also I really enjoyed Vince but his feelings towards Seth and Kal were hard to read about. The feelings towards Seth just felt forced like it was there to help the drama (which there was more than enough of without this side plot) and his hatred of Kal by the end just felt extremely childish.

All in all though, I really enjoyed this book! But wow am I relieved we’re finally getting Wyn’s book!!!

Possibly the most disappointing anticipated release of the year. Five stars (well written! Great whump! Excellent display of trauma!) dropped down to three stars once the characters started having sex. I’m literally begging authors with trauma heavy books to give me more than an epilogue of “then he went to therapy!” after 200+ pages of nonstop fucking. This book really didn’t need to be anywhere as long as it was, and I just…started skipping the sex scenes because I literally didn’t care. Wow, smol boy tops big alien. Such trope subversion. Maybe if I hadn’t seen it done a hundred times this year.

very well done, layered and well crafted storytelling

Rating: 4.5🌈

Of the 4 released stories in Mars Quinn’s Cosmic Romance series, Cosmic Captain is the one that I feel is the darkest, longest in its exploration of the trauma of the having been kidnapped by an unknown and exploitive alien race, then repeatedly sold to various buyers, who then deeply abused them, emotionally, physically and mentally.

Although Seth, and Teddy (friends and fellow kidnapped humans) have each had hugely different experiences, it’s Vince who has suffered some of the worst injuries and the longest, having been sold to a galactic brothel, the horrors of which have left him with unending nightmares and in terrible physical condition.

Quinn wants to deal responsibly with Vince’s reactions to his rescue, his initial shock response, and his tough road to any kind of recovery from his traumatic experiences . And his loss of his hopes for his love for Seth. That’s a lot of work for him and this narrative to carry but it handles this dark load with sensitivity and thoughtful storytelling.

Linked to Vince is Prince Dontilvynsan , Captain of the starship that rescued him and one who can read people’s minds and emotions. His is also a story of a being who has been less accepted because of the gift of his inner fire. How he and Vince start to support each other and communicate is a fascinating story. It’s so different from his brothers and their mates.

The last quarter or so of the book seems hurried or thrown together, without the solid character or narrative of the rest of the book. The attacks and return rather than explore the meeting with the Crystal .

But it’s a terrific story and another discussion of how a unique couple finds it bond.

The trigger warnings are a necessity for the book and series. Please read prior to diving in.

Ok so, small flex but, after binging this series and letting the author know, I was invited to beta read this book and I’m dropping in real quick with a no-spoiler brief review.
This is Vince and Don’s story (except that Don is mine, not Vince’s). The way this story unfolds is just *chef’s kiss* Yes, the content is a little heavier than the others in the series (so please check the CW’s before you read) BUT if you’ve read the others then you also know that Mars gives accurate and relatable portrayals of all his characters’ mental health and this is no different. This story has been given all the space it needs for both Vince and Don to grow individually, and together, and that’s all I can say for now.
I think anyone who has read the other stories in this series and loved them, will love this too, but I also think that - even if you’re new to Cosmic Romance - this would be a lovely place to start. Cosmic Captain will appeal to anyone who likes relatable characters and a romance worth fighting for 🩵

THESE BOOKS PISS ME TF OFF!!! BUT I ALSO RLY LIKE THEM!!!!

thoughts n feelings:
-this series is way way more serious than I expect it to be, like "oh my silly little alien romance" but then everyone is deeply traumatized and trying to navigate love and it's just a mess.
-these two waffled about their feelings for each other way too fucking long. like I get it. I understand why, and I guess I'm glad they got what they needed but the miscommunication trope needs to be GOOD for me to not hate it and unfortunately the execution of this was not for me and just annoyed tf outta me. although Don's whole character arc with figuring out his worth was actually like.......something I genuinely needed to read
-other than the rampant miscommunication I loved this couple together so much
-VERS REP BABYYYYYYYYYYY
-praise kink. the end
-I am SO hyped the next book is Wyn's, I've been DYING to read about him since the first damn book

I'm enthralled with this series, and Don's & Vince's book is my favorite thus far, even though it's also the hardest in terms of emotional response. I loved & felt for Dontilvynsan from his first appearance in the series, and it just grew from there the more I read k& learned of his character & challenges. He melted and broke my heart more than once, and honestly, for a good while, I didn't much like Vince. I understood his reasons, issues, etc, but he rubbed me the wrong way, especially the way he treated Don so thoughtlessly at times. He won me over, mostly because I could tell he was battling himself, trying to survive, thrive, and live. Such huge character development on both MCs' parts, and I'm so glad it worked out the way it did. Loved the story, characters, different relationships, dynamics, and of course the loving family unit - so protective & supportive. Excellent romance, gritty, engaging, encouraging, - it all worked for me. Looking forward to Wyn's book - and soooo curious as to where that's going ....

What a beautiful book!! I love Don and Vince so much!!! 💕

This was the first book I read by Mars Quinn and now I need to read everything by this author.

First of all, I definitely have a thing for spiky personalities and Vince was exactly the type of character I adore. He made me laugh so many times but I also cried for him quite a bit. I don't want to spoil anything but I do believe it is obvious the author took great care in researching the topics discussed.

Don was a dream, so lovely and sweet and I just want him to be the confident king he truly is!!! Because he deserves the world 🥺

Also the spice was just perfect and intertwined with the characters development beautifully throughout the story.

And just because of the way cats are treated in this book, it would get a 6th star from me if I could

Ps : I want a Pookie too !!!

I swear every book in this series just continues to get better. I first discovered Mars Quinn thanks to Adrienne Lotey’s recommendation, and promptly devoted the whole series in a week. I couldn’t wait for this fourth installment, and it was just as good, if not better, than I expected.
Quinn has an incredible ability to write realistic, three dimensional characters. Even when tropes I usually hate, such as miscommunication, come into play, it is done in such a way that it is realistic rather than frustrating. Quinn’s characters are real in a way most authors can’t convey, and the books as a result are just beautiful. Mars Quinn has become an auto-buy author for me.
Cannot wait for the next one!

Everyone Needs a Savior

Vince was the most damaged human so far. I've never k own someone this damaged. Captaim Dontilvynsan has so many issues of his own. These two injured souls need to heal eachother but it's a long road with pot holes and bumps.
I've read all of the series so far and have to wait a couple of months for book 5. I hope to learn more about the Immortal planet.

This book is BY FAR the BEST in this serie.
It was marvelous and heartbraking. It was hard to read as we follow someone who survived such horrible things but the care, empathy with which it was all written made the book even more charming and soulgripping.
I will buy myself a physical copy, I want to keep it on my shelf. One of the BEST reads of the year for me

Don & Vince

This books is amazing!!! I loved everything about it!! The emotional roller coaster and the romance were beautiful.
Vince was an amazing character, loved him and his fierceness.
Don was also a beautiful character, so soft, sweet and emotional in contrast to his size.
I loved all the other characters involved and enjoyed this book so much. I can’t wait to read more!

A very high page count for such meagre plot, unfortunately. The alien and the human promptly fall in love and the only "drama" is will the human stay with the alien or go back to earth (of course he stays, it's not a Steinbeck novel). There's a lot of sex and snuggling and some mundane interactions with secondary characters. That's all.

So many tears 😭

I’m so glad that Vince got his HEA. And Donny deserves to have someone like Vince be his little guard dog!! I can’t wait to see more world building and the next couple!

so good

What an amazing yet hard read. My emotions were all over with Vince and his survival story. I loved how patient Donny was and how Vince needed the praise. Two imperfect men coming together.
