“Tell me about this place. This…Arcania.”

What if your life as you knew it ceased to exist?

That is the question Naeve Brannigan and her three sisters are faced with on the eve of their 25th birthday.
Continuing a tradition they’ve hidden from their mother for years, the four women arrive at a tarot shop to have their futures told.
Only this time their futures aren’t predicted—they’re forever changed.

They’ve awoken in a strange time and place with no knowledge of how they got there. All they have to go by is the word of a man who claims to be family—a family they’ve never heard of.
He tells them of a world they could never have imagined. One that has been cursed by an Empress fueled by old revenge—revenge their mother appears to be at the center of.

As they fight to survive the people and dangers of an unknown land, they slowly begin to unravel its mysteries to find that they hold the key to saving this world…this Arcania.

The question that remains for each of them is: Who do you become when the you that you always were is no longer?

At first it was a little confusing for me but when things became more clearly, I really enjoyed it!! If you are one of Ella Frank's fan, I think you will agree with me that one of the reasons we love her, is that she isn't afraid to write different genres of books. This is something new from her and I really like it! I would like to read more paranormal books from Ella!! She is amazing and she knows how to create fantasy worlds! The plot, the characters and the world she created were brilliant!!

All the characters were good but Kai intrigued me more. From the first moment I met him.He is dark and dangerous! There is sexual tension between the characters and some romantic relationships are building..and I hope we will see more in the next book!!

Who do you become when the you that you always were is no longer?

I added this book to my TBR before I even knew what it was about. Ella Frank has been an auto-buy author for me for years, so if I see a book by her it's a no brainer add. Period. After finishing this all I know is that I just want to live in her brain for just a day. I'm so serious. I'm convinced that the woman is storing a whole workload of pervy worker elves up there. How on earth does she keep coming up with such brilliant plots and then putting them off so flawlessly? I ask you! It's just not humanly possible. And yet, when it comes to Ella, she continues to blow me away with each new book.
Why don't you tell me about this place? This...Arcania."
"Come closer, and I will show you."

From just the first chapter I knew I was in for one amazingly intriguing and unique read, and I was so right. The world of Arcania was vividly painted through words, magical, and filled with so many unique characters that it actually took me a little bit to truly get a grasp on it.

Many years ago, a being that is now know as a "sensualeer" brought was almost the cause of the destruction of the entire land. An empress, born to magical powers, she gave in to the cravings inside her when she came in contact with a man, and the darkness within her took over. Since then an order was born with a higher being to oversee it in order to prevent such a thing from happening again.

Years later, set in Arcania past, Maeve, the eldest of her 4 siblings, is getting ready for her 25th birthday on which she will be meeting the man that is fated for her. Unfortunately the man that is destined for her is also the one that her sister is in love with. A sister that also happens to be marked with the blood of the crazed empress that upon the news that she will never have the man she loves, surrenders to the darkness within her

...and so the story begins.

In present time and in the modern world, Naeve along with her 3 sisters, are getting ready for their 25th birthday. A birthday where a tarot reading transports them to a different world and introduces them to things that they have never imagined.

There is A LOT of plot development and world building that takes place in this book. So much so, that there are multiple POVs that are also introduced, aside from the one of Naeve. This is also the brilliance of Ella Frank; because where I would usually find something like this to be too convoluted it actually worked here. The more I read, the more questions I had, and the more things begin to tie together. And I was absolutely sucked in before I even knew it.
He was like everything else in this strange, new world- a beautiful nightmare. Dark, dangerous, and lethal.

Kai was the mysterious brother of one of the Imperial Guards and the man sent to help find the 4 sisters when they get dropped in the world of Arcania. Knowing nothing about who they are or where they came from, he begrudgingly agrees to help find them in exchange for something that he wants to be named later. Kai was a character that grabbed my attention from the very beginning with his obviously dark secret, brooding personality, and tortured self. He was a bit of an enigma...much like his brother and head of the Imperial Guard's Ry'Ker.

There was A LOT going on in this book. There were the connections between all the characters, the mystery behind what L'iAM, Naeve's uncle and current ruler of Arcania is hiding, the secret of his son and his still unknown powers and so much more. Because of this, the romance that begins to develop between Naeve and Kai kind of took a secondary place. But don't get me wrong, while it may not been predominant, it still played a role...
From the beginning Kai had overwhelmed her, frightened her, and controlled her destiny. But right near and now, the look in his eyes told her that she was the one in control. HE was under her spell.

As much as I'd love to give you more than this, I'd only confuse you. This is one of those books you really need to experience to understand. Having read a number of books in the romantic fantasy genre, this was very different...but in a good way. I wouldn't really qualify this as JUST a romance because it's so much more than that. Though I did wish that it did have a bit more with the romance since it did take me quite a bit to finally wrap my head around everything.

This is not a complete standalone in a series. This is a continuing plot that will continue throughout the series. While there is a somewhat cliffhanger, it's not as bad as it could have been. It leaves off in a satisfying enough place that it won't leave me a rage mess until the next book comes out. But it gives you just enough of a tease to still crave the next release anyway,

I can't wait to see what the genius mind of Ella Frank has in store for this series next. Definitely a series I will gladly be continuing with.

The thing I admire most about Ella Frank’s work, which ensures that I always come back for more, is that she is continually pushing the envelope, endeavouring to tackle new genres of storytelling with each subsequent book she writes.

Within her ‘Special Thanks’, Ella states:

“I wanted to step outside the box and create something exciting and new, and I’m very proud of the world that evolved.”

And so she bloody well should be. The plot here was engaging, the characters were deliciously multifaceted (big plus, IMO) and the fantasy world she created within this story was simply breathtaking.

Welcome to Arcania.

Fantastical element = 10/10.
Romance/steamy factor = 7/10.
Number of gorgeous (most certainly beddable), mystical men = like, 6!! At my last count.

Clearly, I have my priorities in order when it comes to compelling storytelling – delicious men: CHECK!!

The majority of this story takes place in a magical realm called Arcania. The plot is quite intricately layered, making it difficult to divulge any details within a review. The last thing I want to do is give away any of the charming details that kept me so riveted during my own reading experience. It’s definitely a “less is more” sort of reading expedition. So trust your gut, and the ratings (because those are pretty impressive) and just dive in.

What I can say is that the story spans two periods of time, across two unique worlds – Arcania and Earth. The narrative is also told through multiple points of view, with up to 7 distinctive characters sharing POV’s throughout book #1 alone. This may turn many readers off, but I felt it was accomplished with such a deft hand that the transitions from one character to another were easily identifiable and quite impressively presented.

This book technically focuses on an M/F romance, but.. and it’s a BIG but.. there is a solid M/M set-up within this story, between the two best characters (or at least, they were MY favourite characters) – Si’Bastian & Ry’Ker - which will likely evolve into much more tasty storylines in later books. I. CAN. NOT. WAIT!!

If you haven’t picked up on it already, this is just the beginning of what I hope is a lengthy fantasy romance series. This book ends on a very open-ended note, leaving me itching to read more; honestly, the wait might possibly kill me! I am definitely absorbed in this world and positively obsessed with Si’Bastian’s character. I simply want more!! <3

Ella Frank has to be one of my favorite authors and automatically any book that she publishes is a one-click. And in her newest release, Temperance I went in totally blind and not knowing what to expect when the book was first uploaded on Goodreads. All I knew I had to read any book, that Ms. Frank publishes. First let me start off, I rarely read Fantasy Romance genre books and I will just say Ella Frank has spellbinded and bewitched me right off the opening pages. She takes her readers into a whole new world where magic, sorcery, hunters, knights, betrayal, anger, revenge, death, loss, love and family bonds are all intertwined into the storyline. Be prepared to get enchanted as two worlds collide. One of reality and one of fantasy. Where the past and present meet. Where revenge and anger runs deep. And where four sisters are the key to unlocking a secret that lies in the magical world of Arcania.

#EllaTemp

In true Ella Frank fashion, she captivates her readers with a bewitching storyline that will have you wanting to know what will become of these four sisters who are trapped in Arcania and at the same time, wanting to know the history of the men sworn to protect these sisters. Temperance has a romance aspect but the true emphasis of the story line are the characters involved in Arcania. If magic is what you seek, be prepared to be magically enwrapped in as you are transported to a whole new world and time. Temperance is a story that has many layers that needs to be peeled so it was at first a bit confusing since there are so many characters involved in this book. And each character were vital instruments of the story so you had to really pay attention to each detail to grasp as to what is happening.

#EllaFrankTemp2

This story chronicles four sisters on their 25th birthday as they are magically transported to a whole new time and dimension. They don’t know how, what, or why they are there but imminent danger from an Empress is upon them. This Empress happens to be their aunt who has been engulf with revenge after she felt her sister took away her happiness 25 years ago. These sisters are the key. And as you completely immerse yourself to this book, you will soon learn why they are the key and what has been bestowed upon them. Will these sisters be able to save Arcania? And what is the fate of the eldest sister, Naeve?

#EllaFrank1

In all honesty, Temperance is a story that must be read to truly appreciate this enchanting storyline that Ella Frank takes her readers on. I don’t want to spoil and rehash the storyline because it is a book to be experienced. Like her characters in Temperance, I must applaud Ella Frank in taking a risk and stepping into this fantasy genre since this is completely new for her. Temperance was fresh, innovative, and wickedly addictive. It had complex characters waiting to be understood and a storyline filled with layers waiting to be peeled and exposed. Though Temperance ends in a somewhat cliffhanger, it is one of those endings that leaves you satisfied until the next book of The Arcanian Chronicles releases.

*ARC kindly provided by author in exchange for an honest review*

As you may or may not know, I took a break from reviewing for the last six months. I needed to step back, and just breathe for a little while. I started to lose my love of reading, and I refused to let blogging completely temper that passion in my life. I didn’t set a date as to when I would come back to the world of reviewing and blogging, because I didn’t know when I would even want to; I kept telling myself that I would just know.

And then my lovely friend, Stacy, mentioned adding me to Ella’s blog tour for her new fantasy romance. To be honest, I was so out of the book loop that I wasn’t even sure what this new book really entailed (*cringes* don’t throw tomatoes at me...please!) but considering how Ella was (and still is) one of my favorite authors, I decided what a better time to dip my feet back into the review world. And you know what? I am SO fucking glad I did, because this book...this book is absolutely phenomenal.

Temperance takes you between Wilmington, NC and the magical land of Arcania, where a merciless sensualeer Empress has plagued the land due to, what she views, a sisterly betrayal. Seraphine has been plotting her revenge for years, and even though she no longer knows the whereabouts of her sister, she knows exactly what will force her hand and leave her no choice but to show herself...

Bring her 4 daughters to Arcania.

On their 25th birthday, Naeve, Siobhan, Fiona, and Audra are transported into a mysterious forest without any recognition as to how they got there. After their eventual capture, they slowly find out information about their mother and father that will leave them questioning everything they thought they knew, and in turn, this magical land of Arcania starts to appear like less of a dream, and more and more like a reality. But with the Empress forging on with her plan to exact revenge on the girls’ mother, they have no idea just what kind of force they are up against, and if they ever do get back to “the real world”, they may not return as the same girls that disappeared that fateful afternoon.

"Who do you become when the you that you always were is no longer?"

I am honestly not even sure where to start with this review. My mind is still reeling from the sheer brilliance of Ella Frank's latest novel, and I can't remember the last time a book left me with a hangover of this proportion. I finished Temperance two days ago, and it still consumes my thoughts to the point where I already want to do a re-read. It's just absolutely magnificent. I really enjoy fantasy romances, but it has been quite a while since I’ve not only read one, but found one that truly captivated me. Until now. Ella paints such a vivid, magical masterpiece throughout these pages that you can’t help but feel as though you’ve somehow been teleported to Arcania right alongside the Brannigan sisters. With this being the first book in the series, there is quite a bit of backstory and plot development, but there isn’t a moment where you feel as though the story is beginning to drag. Every small detail plays a part in this story and how the characters are connected, so it was impossible for me to not hang on every single sentence.

 photo littlerabbit3_zpsc665055f.jpg

Now, I’ll admit something. I had a bit of trouble keeping the relationships between the characters straight for a little while. I know, I suck. But once I finally drilled it into my head, I was able to fully submerse myself in the plot and just enjoy the fantasy and mystery that lurks in every crevice of Arcania. The character development was outstanding, and I feel like this deserves some extra attention considering the amount of characters this story revolves around. While Naeve is at the forefront, we are well introduced to all three of her sisters, and several residents of Arcania -- though Kai, Ry’Ker, and Bastion overshadow the rest in this particular installment. The personalities of each character were projected marvelously, and in a way that allowed the reader to feel as though they know each of these individuals, even if they didn’t stand in the forefront. I fell in love with these characters hard, and the only other time I have thoroughly loved an entire ensemble this much was when I read the Addicted series by Krista and Becca Ritchie.

I could go on and on about the phenomenal brilliance of this magical novel filled with love, hate, revenge, survival, family, and the curse of power falling into the wrong hands...but no matter what I say, I won’t do it justice. So just read it. Temperance has forever planted itself on my all-time favorites shelf, and there is no doubt that I will find myself going back to the world of Arcania time and time again. Ella Frank never ceases to amaze me, and after finishing her first fantasy novel, it’s official...

There is absolutely nothing that this woman can’t write. Absolutely. Nothing.

Temperance (The Arcanian Chronicles #1) by Ella Frank
4.5 stars!!

“…Why don’t you tell me about this place? This…Arcania…”
“Come closer, and I will show you.”

Is there anything that Ella Frank cannot write? I have to admit, I am not a fantasy reader, yet I am an Ella Frank reader. I had signed up for this book just because of the author, I had not read the blurb or anything and did not realise that this was another change in genre, so with great trepidation and anticipation I went into the world of Arcania.

This is another one of those books that I could easily see made into a movie. Ella has proven her way with words many times and in this book she creates a visual masterpiece. It is one of those books that are so descriptive and so vivid and theatrical that you cannot help but imagine the characters on the big screen. I was whisked away to Arcania and was totally submerged into the plot, the characters and the story.

The story begins with four sisters that are quadruplets, yet they are all vastly different. Naeve is a blonde, Siobhan is a red head, Fiona a brunette and Audra has jet black hair. Celebrating their twenty fifth birthdays they decide to go and get their tarots read even though it has been forbidden by their mother, but what happens is entirely unexpected. Apparently twenty five is a major milestone for these girls, unbeknown to them, and when they “wake up” they find themselves in Arcania. Suddenly deposited into a place that is totally strange and alien to them, the girls begin their journey.

“Your parents as they once were, Naeve, and the world they left behind.”

Arcania is a realm of Sensualeers, Guardians, Imperial Guards, a Commander and an Empress, a realm of magic where life has been on the decline and all women had been banished to protect them, that is until the arrival of the quadruplets. The quadruplets have apparently been brought to Arcania because of their mother and their father who was a mortal guardian.

“Find the keys. Find the four keys…It’s not just the four keys…it’s the four children, and her. It’s always been her.”

So we have four women, now for the man candy!! We have two brothers, Ry’Ker and Mala’kai, Ry is the Commander’s right hand man and Kai is a law all unto himself. Both men, as you would expect are extremely good looking but sometimes their attitudes leave a lot to be desired. However, we have to remember that their life and ours are totally different. Li’Am and Si’Bastian are Commander and Sensualeer respectively and they are also father and son.

“He was like everything else in this strange, new world – a beautiful nightmare. Dark, dangerous and lethal. One she knew she should wake from but felt herself sliding deeper inside of.”

Empress Seraphine is Li’Am’s deranged sister and she is the evil force. With kleptors for eyes she is extremely powerful and has abilities that enable her to talk through the mind. She has one focus and will stop at nothing to get it, even if it is detrimental to Arcania.

“…had been crowned Empress and was known as ‘the ruler without mercy.’ She governed with brute intimidation to get what she wanted, solidifying the fears of the people when it came to their kind. Tyrannical and unloving, she had made sure that the people of Arcania shared her desolate fate – nothing was sacred.”

All the characters seem to be related in one way or another and I have to admit, it could get a bit confusing at times. However, this intricately weaved story is just the beginning of what I am sure is going to turn out to be a fantastic series. I really cannot delve any further into the story because this is one those books that needs to be read blind so that you can experience and understand it for yourself. But if you are a fan of fantasy then I am sure that this will tick all the boxes. Also, for people like me, who have hardly or never dabbled with this genre, pick it up, it is a great read, still with the romance that we love but with the added bonus of an entirely different setting. Amazing story and one that I will be eagerly awaiting the next instalment!

“Why?”
“Because, Maeve…I can.”

I wasn't sure what to expect with this book, but now I've decided that this author can pull off any genre she tries. To me, the appeal to a fantasy story is the otherworldly details, mystery and hidden clues. Temperance is full of these. I just finished reading, but feel like if I reread it, I would catch so many things that I missed the first time.

This is a story involving an alternate realm. During the same time that we are living our day to day, in the land of Arcania, sensualeers, mortals, Guardians, Imperial Guards, castles, magic, swords, an Empress, a Commander, healers, etc. exist in a land where forces constantly struggle to determine the fate of everyone's existence. Nothing has occurred to change the slow decent of life for quite some time here until the four sisters arrive.
It was insanity. It was unreal.
And if this was a dream, she wasn't quite ready to wake up.

Ahh, the men of Arcania, what to tell about them?
The brothers Ry'Ker and Mala'Kai are pretty hunky, so different and so alike at the same time. Both, I believe, are honorable men. They just possess differing morals. Ry is the right hand to the Commander, and Kai follows only himself. I must say that Kai totally won me over. He can rescue me any day.
He was like everything else in this strange, new world—a beautiful nightmare. Dark, dangerous, and lethal.
Li'Am and Si'Bastian, father and son, Commander and sensualeer—these two are very interesting. We have barely scratched the surface on what's in store for them. I can see that both will most likely skirt and hop the good/evil boundaries in this series. I do have a soft spot for Bastian. He's the character that has my attention the most at this moment.

All of the people are connected—the girls, their mother, the heroes, villains and all between. I have lots of theories right now, but mentioning them would be spoiling. Temperance is a learn as you go book. You have to figure out who or what things and people are as the clues drop and the happenings unfold.
Your two eldest are the first on my list, temperance and strength—we don't want any of that.

I'm so ready for book 2. If you are looking for something different, the full fantasy experience, this is probably the story for you. Anyone that knows me knows that I love to ferret out the significance of inner messages in a fantasy storyline. Several were offered in this read. <3 The beginning was a little difficult for me to get into, but the more I think about all the little details, the more I'm liking this story. The author had to have put so much thought into it.

I am a huge fan of Ella Frank and was thrilled when she announced the premise for her new series. While they are some amazing fantasy books, the genre is somewhat lacking in the romance element. Ella Frank delivers her own style of sexiness to the fantasy genre. Throughout the book, I thought to myself several times; “Why hasn’t Ella Frank been writing fantasy before now?!”

The beginning is somewhat tricky. We are introduced to the magical world of Arcania and past events that set the stage for the story. While I was confused for the first few chapters, everything fell into place throughout the book. I loved all the unique characters and magical elements. There are multiple characters and storylines. While I am not a huge fan of third person POV, it works brilliantly here.

Naeve and Kai’s worlds collide when Naeve and her three sisters are thrust into Arcania from our world. Kai becomes a guardian of their safety. I loved Naeve and Kai’s chemistry from the beginning. It is evident early on, despite their initial dislike for one another, there would be sparks flying later. In true Ella Frank style, there some sizzling hot love scenes between the characters as well.

-“Don’t you want to know my name?”
-“No. A hunter never names its prey.”

Naeve and her sisters are immersed in the ultimate family fight when they are pursued by their aunt/Empress of Arcania. The battle includes their mother, uncle, cousin, and guards. Everyone seems to be hiding dark secrets too. Bastian, their cousin is the ultimate wild card. I can’t decide if he is good or evil, or perhaps a little of both. Ella Frank creates a beautiful but dangerous new world. All the characters are woven into each others lives and their actions constantly affect those around them. Once the storyline passed the beginning stages, I was completely sucked in to this story.

As expected with a new series, there is somewhat of a cliffhanger. While it’s nothing over the top, it definitely left me longing for the next installment. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book to any fan of PNR!

Brilliant. Movie worthy. I can already see the creators of Stardust producing this movie, with Patrick Stewart as the narrator.

4 sisters, quadruplets, but as different from each other as can be. Naeve with her blonde hair, Siobhan with her fiery red hair, Fiona a brunette, and Audra with her inky black hair (and the spitting image of their mother) celebrate their 25th birthday by going to get their tarots read. Unknown to them, age 25 is a special age, and upon walking in to have their fortunes read and something feeling very "off", the girls wake up in a realm unknown to them.

So many mysteries and secret surround this land, and we go in through their eyes, experiencing everything for the first time with them.

The first character we meet, seems like whimsical kind of Character, Sabastian. His mind is very rare in this land and are feared by everyone, since not much is known of their kind. He is also a character I can't wait to learn more about, I feel he is a vital key in the mystery of Arcania.

The next set of characters are estranged brothers, Ry'Ker, the Head Imperial Guard and his brother,Mala'Kai, aka Kai, the best swordsman in the land. I'm just saying this now, I'm totally claiming Kai!! hahaha

Anyways,The journey is mainly about the oldest sister Naeve and Kai. He is trying to save her from the crazy evil empress, their aunt, Seraphine. She has done something to both Naeve and Siobhan, and he wants to find away to stop the darkness that will take them over.

In the end, you're left with Ry'ker and Bastian's story, the other 3 sisters, Naeve and Ry'Ker, and Li'am/Serpaphine and some "mystery guard". Things are unfolding and the pressure is on. Who will get the keys, who will unlock the doors, and what will become of Arcania?

I love a good book that makes you think, and I think Ella did a wonderful job creating this other fantasy realm. I felt like I was pulled into it with the girls and there are so many wonderful characters to choose from!! My 3rd favorite is buttercup, read it and find out! heehee

Fantasy is not a genre I usually read. That being said, when Ella Frank writes a book... I read it.
No Questions Asked!!

When I first started reading the ancient tale of Arcania, I'll admit, I was a little confused.. but as I read on, things started to click into place, questions were answered, other questions arose. I was so intrigued! Ella has woven the perfect blend of present day with a mystical, magical world we know nothing about.

It's told in multiple points of view, which I absolutely love.
This story contains several main characters (which you fall in love with almost immediately) and by the time I finished reading, all I could think of was..
"What happens now? What's next? Whose book is next?"
I can see many books in the future and I am super excited!!

Family bonds, sisters, love, lust, acceptance, death, betrayal, sacrifice... sex!!
(It's Ella Frank, there's gonna be sex involved!!) It's all there!

This first book is full of unknown, the characters don't know what is happening, the reader doesn't know what is happening... but what I do know is that I am now 100 percent immersed in this new world of fantasy and I WANT MORE!

"He was like everything else in this strange, new world- a beautiful nightmare. Dark, dangerous, and lethal."

Ella Frank does it again and in a totally different genre! This is my second fantasy romance book/series and I think I am digging it hard core. I love getting lost in a whole other world.

Temperance is about 4 sisters (quadruplets) who are taken to a Arcania a fantasy world. Once there, they meet Si'Bastian who is magical with his powers and good looks. The girls are unsure of him and his magic, until he shows them who they really are and how they came about in this fantasy land.

Next we meet the big intimidating brothers Ry'Ker and Mala'Kai. Ry'Ker is the Head of the Imperial Guard and Kai is the feared recluse brother, who is a master swordsman and feared by most.

The main character is the oldest Naeve, but we are introduced to all the sisters and their personalties. Naeve is known for her temperance, but all that restraint is put to the test once in Arcania and with a certain someone ;)

This is the first in a series so we are learning about the land, the people and all the back story. Ella did a freaking beautiful job taking me right to Arcadia and painting the perfect back drop of a fantasy world with whimsical characters, that I want MORE of. Every book of hers I just adore. Great job Ella I will be stalking you for updates on this series :)

"You feel hot against my skin. Like we'll catch fire if we're not careful."

I recommend this book to everyone who wants a break from the same old boy meets girl love story. Go on and get lost in this sexy, tension filled fantasy. 4.5 Fantastical Stars!

"Close your eyes and hear my tale. Let us see who you are. And as the sun rises in the East, you'll have traveled very far..."

Two worlds...past and present...now irrevocably linked together. One on a downward spiral due to betrayal, destruction, and disease. A hope for renewal and rebuilding lies with four sisters thrust into this mysterious world they know nothing about. A world with Commanders, Knights, Empresses, Magicians, Castles and desolate forests.

New worlds, magical people, scary hunters, and now...a castle? It was starting to feel like a twisted kind of fairytale--one she wanted to wake the heck up from.

This is a sweeping adventure spanning two worlds, one family, and time. Relationships will be forged and some will be broken. The inevitable battle between good and evil is being waged, but there are so many variances of the two, and so many different factors involved. Individuals and bonds will be tested. Entire belief systems will be challenged. And there are many things to discover about themselves, each other, and this strange new place.

"Who do you become when the you that you always were is no longer?"

This is told in multiple points of view of all of the main characters so we can see their innermost thoughts and feelings. There are several sets of siblings as the main characters all with interesting personalities, strengths, and some with abilities. The mistakes of the older generation Maeve, Seraphine, Li'Am, and Rhiannon are filtering down to the next generation. Now Naeve, Siobhan, Fiona, and Audra are facing challenges beyond their wildest dreams. And along the way they meet some fascinating men: Bastian, a mercurial man with mystical powers...Ry'Ker, a stoic Imperial Guard and Mala'Kai, his dark and brooding brother...and Ai'Den, a young, powerful healer. They all intrigued me and I enjoyed the varying interactions and dynamics between all of them. I totally fell for Kai, Ry'Ker, and even Bastian. Some romantic relationships and sexual tension are already building and I cannot wait to see how she develops the relationships even more in further installments.

I was completely sucked in and transported into Arcania. I became totally invested in the characters and their plight. The story line is unique, intricate, and engaging. But it is hard to review this type of book without giving too much away. But it is full of mystery, danger, suspense, revenge, curses, fantasy, sexual tension, magic, and action. The characters are complex and well developed. The setting and heirarchy is so detailed that you can understand this other culture's rules and easily envision all of the things beautiful or bad in it. The dynamics between the characters are entertaining and interesting, and they have strong reactions to each other whether it be fear, confusion, attraction, lust, or hate. At times there is witty banter that makes you laugh and at other times there are dangerous, romantic, steamy or heartbreaking situations. It is truly an engaging adventure with many layers, multiple story lines and relationships building, factions and relatives fighting, secrets, and hidden agendas.

I don't usually read many fantasy books, but I was intrigued because I am a huge Ella Frank fan. And I think she did an amazing job in creating an unforgettable realm and characters. I felt like I had been on an incredible journey with these characters but there is still more story to tell. I can't wait for the next installment. I want to go back to Arcania asap!

I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Temperance , by Ella Frank
5 FANTASTICAL Stars!
Phewww I am SO GLAD that this book did NOT disappoint! You see I was SO HYPED about this book coming out because I was so DESPERATE for something entirely different. Once I caught wind of this book and saw who the author was I was practically drooling! I have NEVER read a fantasy book so it is beyond me why I was SO drawn to it but I just knew I had to read it the second it came out. I LOVE Ella Franks writing and she seems to reinvent herself with almost all her books. Blind Obsession STILL is and will always be one of my ALL TIME favorite reads (talk about different) and then she BLEW me away with Veiled Innocence. But THIS book right here, this book is a GEM! It transports you into a different world and you become so spellbound by it that you really don’t want to come back out. I am now finding that I am DESPERATE YET AGAIN but this time it’s because I cannot wait to read the next book in this series. I am TOTALLY in for the long haul. I even took notes and started a character list LOL! Who is this person I have become?? I don’t know because that is so unlike me but I just know this series is going to be EPIC and I want to be fully prepared. I am so thankful that I waited to try this new genre of fantasy because testing the waters with a book like this by an author who writes so brilliantly was definitely the right move for me. Now I am HOOKED! BRAVO Ella, so well done! OH and for the love of God, do yourselves a favor if you are planning on starting this book/series…GO IN BLIND, don’t waste the feeling you get by discovering this world for the first time! TRUST ME :)

This is a tale about an Empress and an Emperor who were picked to rule the land Arcania by the one and only hierophant, but something happens along the way. The Empress’s wicked sister fell in love with the Emperor before he was promised to her sister.

This story really confused me. The execution between past and present was off. I understand that there needed to be a lot of set up, for the stories to continue, but at times I felt completely overwhelmed, and the story wasn’t taking hold like it should. The development between the relationships of characters (particularly Naeve and Kai) were rushed for me.

It was also done in multiple points of view. That was definitely something I had to get used to. While this story was all over the place I did finally connect to it after I was halfway through. Perhaps we will see if the next story will be able to take a solid foundation in each relationship and the road that we will travel through Arcania. If you like unique fantasy with a little bit of romance then this probably for you.

3 Stars.

One word: Spellbinding.

Who do you become when the you that you always were is no longer?”

There are so many characters in this book. The world building is quite intricate. It is almost impossible for me to explain without confusing you, but I will say that it is worth experiencing for yourself. Ella Frank is already a 5 star author, but when she takes you in the fantasy genre she goes further than I ever thought she could. This story is full intrigue and impossible to put down. Each character mattered as they were woven into the story.

I cannot say enough about the world building in this book. I was in awe from beginning to end. What an amazing mind Ella Frank has! It was like I was in a dream state the entire time I read. I was beyond impressed. And frankly, fantasy is not usually my genre of choice, but I will definitely be reading more from this series!

Despite the sophisticated and elaborate plot, following this story was a breeze. It was truly enchanting. I was whisked away and never looked back! Frank does a great job of elucidating this special word so you never feel lost.

If that isn’t enough, the love story is timeless. Kai was my favorite character with his brooding and darkness. I am definitely a sucker for that. But really, you just have to read it to understand. I wish I could give you more. Well, maybe this quote will give you a taste of what I’m talking about…

From the beginning Kai had overwhelmed her, frightened her, and controlled her destiny. But right near and now, the look in his eyes told her that she was the one in control. HE was under her spell.”

This will be a series and each book will contribute to the story.

I know this is a short review, but there really is no way to capture the magic and beauty from this book other than to read it. I highly recommend it.

5 Stars and horn of mead for this phenomenal book!

Mysterious Magical Fantasy!

Temperance is a complex story that fantasy-romance fans will gobble up. An intriguing plot and characters abound in the first installment of Ella Frank’s newest endeavor. I had the privilege of reading book 1 prior to its launch and absolutely loved it. It keeps you thinking about the relationships, the whos, the whats, and the whys throughout as you try and piece together the puzzle that is quite a mystery.

Modern day quadruplet sisters take a forbidden trip to a tarot reader only to find themselves mysteriously relocated to Arcania. Danger seems to be lurking everywhere you turn while you imagine Arcania, a strange and mystical land that also harbors evil.

Just enough steam to make you want to know more about Mala’Kai and Naeve and where they’re headed. Steam is probably putting it mildly where these two are concerned. It’s more like HOT. I suspect with the number of characters that are introduced in book 1 there will be a lot of pairing up going on and I cannot wait to see who ends up with who.

Too many other fascinating characters to mention but most of them make you wonder where their loyalties truly align. With several families to keep track of, layers and layers of complexities come to light as each character begins to shed their history creating a number of intriguing subplots.

From a technical standpoint, I found the editing in this book to be superb and worth mentioning.

Once again Ella Frank has somehow given us something so different from her previous works which in themselves are all diverse in story and writing style. Imaginative doesn’t begin to describe this one. It’s a magical fantasy to be sure and one you won’t want to miss. Looking forward to the next book in the Arcanian Chronicles.

All the many different locations are well describe it is a easy book to follow and get caught up in. This is the first book so it gives a detailed insight to the magical realm of Arcania it lays the foundation you get to meet all the characters. As I said it is so well written that it actually draws you in like you are actually there I have not felt that for awhile!

Why you should read it: I've enjoyed every Ella Frank book I've read and was excited to pick up this new NA from her. I love tarot cards, as you all know from last week, and wanted to see what Ella's spin was on them, and wow … I love the world-building and all the characters (there are quite a few and multiple POVs). This was the first book I've read with quintuplets, and I can't wait for the next book in the series! I can't decide what I like more: the romance and hot heroes or the fantasy elements of the book. It was a perfect mix of both rich setting and steam. It seems like Ella excels in any genre she writes in, and I'm passing this along to my mother, who loves fantasy as much as I do. I'm not saying much about the plot and characters here because anything I say could be spoiler-ish. I will say that if you love fantasy, action, a really awesome heroine and heroes (you'll want to call dibs on Kai!), pick up this new series. I really wish this would be made into an audiobook. I think it would just add another dimension to an already action-packed plot.

To see what Ella is working on next head over to the HEA blog!

Not to be missed!!!!

Oh. My. God.

I really have no words to express how much I enjoyed this book. Imagine journeying in a world that combines The Wizard of Oz, Narnia and Alice in Wonderland. Instead of journeying through a wardrobe or flying through a tornado, you see a fortune teller who transports you to a place called Arcania.

This happens to the four sisters, Naeve, Siobhan, Fiona and Audra Brannigan. It's their 25th birthday and they are on their way to their birthday dinner with their mother and aunt when they make a forbidden pit stop to see a tarot reader. What happens after that will blow your mind and make you believe the unbelievable.

I wouldn't call this a simple fantasy romance, more like an epic saga of LOTR or Game of Thrones proportions. It was just that GOOD. I've read many of Ella Frank's books and this one just blew my mind. There IS a romance within the pages but I feel as if it's secondary in the story and and that's okay with me! I really, really enjoyed this book and I know with that cliffhanger ending I don't know how I'm going to last a year until the next book is published.

4.5 Fantastical Stars! I really enjoyed this story. It's completely different from anything I've read from this author but still a pleasant surprise. This book read like a movie, I swear I could see this playing out on the big screen. This is told in multiple points of view of all of the main characters so we can see their innermost thoughts and feelings.

Normally I wouldn't like this. I like to concentrate on two characters and their budding romance but this author made it work so even though you have all these POV's, you can still feel the connection and enjoy the oldest sister "Naeve" and "Mala' Kai" attraction to one another. They have undeniable chemistry that eventually explodes into some real steamy sex scenes that this author is well known for writing. Though I did wish that it did have a bit more with the romance, I still really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more on this new series.

I love EF, but this book was just not it for me. I'm a fast reader, and I only kept reading because I just kept expecting it to get better, but unfortunately it didn't. Too much going on. I understand it was the first book in a series, but this fantasy was just confusing. I commend EF for going outside her comfort zone and writing this. I just wish I liked it as much the majority of the readers did.

3.5 Stars!

I had only had the pleasure of reading two books by Ella Frank prior to this. I've loved both, and have the rest on my TBR list, because I really enjoy her style of writing and her voice. I'm also a huge fan of fantasy, so, when I heard about Temperance, I was definitely intrigued. After reading the synopsis, however, I was concerned about how "easy" the book would be to follow. It seemed that Temperance would have a lot going on-- people, places, terminology to familiarize myself with-- but most books like this do. I was still really excited to start.

This story begins in the past, in Arcania, with our main character's mother, Maeve, and her own three siblings on their twenty-fifth birthday. Maeve, along with her brother and two sisters all play an integral role in Arcanian society, and, in reliving their past, we understand quite a bit more about their world by the time we meet Naeve and her three sisters-- on, you guessed it, their twenty-fifth birthday. And theirs is just as life-changing as their mother's.

Maeve and one of her sisters, Rhiannon, had been "removed" from Arcania, and have lived in North Carolina for the past twenty-five years, raising Maeve's four children-- with no memory of how or why they came to be there. Only their trust that the Hierophant (the most powerful being in their world) surely had a good reason to place them there eases their confusion. Slightly. There has to be more to it, they're adamant. And, at this point in the book, I was dying to know what that reason might be. I was anxious to find out what came of some characters that we're introduced to early on. Very quickly, you will be left with a million questions, eager to uncover the events that have led everyone to where they are, and wondering what comes next.

It's almost like experiencing two different stories. Maeve, and her siblings'-- along with her own love story with Lach'Lan (swoon)-- and Naeve's own adventure with her family. It was quite entertaining. The characters were fun, and their banter constantly brought a smile to my face. There's a plethora of supporting characters, so I found myself flipping backwards pretty often in the beginning to make sure I remembered everyone. I got names/roles mixed up a little at first, but that might just be me. However, each character had their own distinct and rich personality, and brought a lot to the story. Eventually, it wasn't so daunting.

Speaking of the many characters, Bastian was a someone that I very much enjoyed getting to know. He was a complex character with a difficult past (and future?), a quick temper, but still with a sense of humor. Kai was also a favorite! There are a lot of characters that are truly nothing like they originally seem.

I'm generally not a fan of books that give you more than two characters' points-of-view, especially not so quickly (I don't like to just get comfortable in a one character's mind, only to be abruptly switched to another's). That's not to say that the POV change was done poorly in this instance, it is just something that put me off a bit, personally, and I think it's worth mentioning. This, however, might not bother some readers, so don't let it discourage you from reading Temperance. I definitely enjoyed the story despite this.

I have to say, at about 28% or so, I began to feel a little... frustrated, although, that might be a harsh way to describe how I felt. Conflicted, maybe? I felt like, at that point, the story should have been progressing a bit more, yet... only about two days had passed. Two days! Yes, things were happening. Yes, I was into the story. But I was so ready to get on with things. This was actually true for about half of the book, sadly, and it was a good thing I was already super curious about how this story would (finally) unfold, because it might have bothered me even more otherwise. And just when things finally started to happen more quickly... it was over faster than I would have liked. I wanted more, in the best way.

Overall, I did really enjoy Temperance. The writing flowed beautifully. The premise of the story was interesting and entertaining, the characters captivating. And, in true Ella Frank fashion, the few sex scenes packed plenty of heat. I think it was a great jump into fantasy for this author. I'm only hoping that, now that a lot of the back story has been established, we are able to jump right into the action in the next installment. This world that Frank has created has a lot of potential, and can branch off into many different directions. I'll be excited to revisit these characters (Especially Kai! *swoon*) and see where their story leads! I was left with tons of questions and I can't wait to get the answers.

When I saw the book trailer for Temperance, by Ella Frank, I was very intrigued! Fantasy Romance is not my usual genre, and since I made it a point to read more books out of my genre this year, I was very happy with the way Temperance captivated my attention and kept me turning the pages until the early hours of the morning.

It’s hard to write a review of this book without giving too much away. This story was filled with twists and turns that will leave you guessing what will happen next! I have to admit that it took me a bit of time to get into the story, but once the girls arrived in Arcania, I could not wait to see what would happen next!

This story is set in the past and present. It takes place in the magical and mysterious world of Arcania and on the streets of Wilmington, North Carolina. Temperance is the story of fours sisters: Naeve, Siobhan, Fiona and Audra. Every year on their birthday, the sisters track down a fortuneteller and have their futures told. Something that their mom, Maeve, does not approve of. This year their reading takes an unexpected turn when the sisters are literally transported into a whole new world they never knew existed. As the days go by, the Brannigan sisters meet people that are connected to them and others that they are not sure they can trust. The girls are intrigued by the mysterious stories that surround Arcania. What will happen and how will they react when they find out what hides in Arcania?

I really loved how Ella Frank wrote this story. I have no clue how many books are going to be released after Temperance, but I really loved that nothing was rushed and that the romance was slow building. Naeve and Kai have this exquisite chemitry that is addictive! And that is all I'm going to say about them! You need to indulge every single detail of their journey! Ella Frank knows how to write some pretty scorching scenes! *Fans Freakin' Self* One thing that was instant was the connection I had with all these characters. I even connected with the Evil B*&?% Empress of Arcania!!! Oh, how I loved to hate her! All these characters have an important part in this story and they all hold a piece of a puzzle that fits right into this mysterious and page-turning story.

I can't wait to see what's next! I need some answers!!! Like NOW!!!!

I give, Temperance, by Ella Frank 4 flirtatious, mysterious, page-turning, magical stars!

Original to its core, Ella Frank has once again delivered a turbulent story full of intricate characters, in a web of deceit and disloyalty, combined with strong, courageous individuals who will hopefully save the day. Based on a complex combination of myths and legends, this story finds its foundation on the Tarot cards of Divination. Using the Major Arcana to develop her main characters, our author has created a unique story full of fantasy, mystery, suspense, thrills and a sensual romance including the knight in shining armor. Of course there is a villain... in this case the sister of the Empress and keeper of one of the keys to the realm. Feeling jealous upon her sister's coronation as Empress and of the newly chosen partner as Emperor, events are set forth that will encompass the near destruction of the realm and will have far reaching tentacles into the world we currently live in.

In this realm where women have been cursed and driven away for the past 20 plus years, four sisters are transported to fulfill the devious plans of the evil usurper of the throne - The Empress Seraphina. Their individual gifts are their strengths and their weaknesses. The Empress Seraphina will not stop until she achieves her ultimate goal, spelling gloom and doom for the sisters, their mother (the true Empress) and their father (the missing Emperor).

It was 5 AM when I finally finished this book. I picked it up and could not put it down. There was no way I could leave this story and go to sleep. This is book 1, and there are plenty more adventures to come. I normally do not read fantasy, but when Ella Frank is involved, I will take a gamble feeling assured it will be a memorable story. I was not wrong!
