Fighting Blind

Rate this book
Thrust into a fight for survival from his first breath, Ryan Bow has walked a blurred line between light and darkness. A childhood marked by hardship, a ticking time bomb in his brain, and the weight of his family’s struggles set the stage for an impossible goal—earning a spot on the U.S. Olympic Judo team. But one crushing defeat shatters that dream and forces him onto a new path.

From the gritty streets of Michigan to the heart of Japan, Ryan reinvents himself in the ruthless world of MMA—living with the constant threat that the cyst in his head could rupture and kill him at any moment.

As an outsider in a culture steeped in tradition, his battles extend far beyond the ring. He must navigate the sport’s Yakuza ties, survive death threats from the shadows—and fight not just for victory, but for love. A love as fierce as it is forbidden, with a woman bound by tradition and an arranged future that does not include him.

A gripping tale of sacrifice, perseverance, and the unbreakable warrior spirit—this is more than a fight story; it’s a battle for survival, identity, and a love that defies all odds.

I recently finished up reading Fighting Blind and really enjoyed the novel. The writing itself is tight. While descriptions are provided and extra information about culture in Japan, nothing feels excessive. It is an ideal balance getting immersed in the world of the book without slowing down the pace.
My favorite parts of the book were the fight scenes. I found them thrilling and easy to imagine. The book uses a bit of technical fight vocabulary at times, but is presented in such a way that I think even people who have never trained would be able to follow the action.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this book!
