Nyros, of the Moon Elves, is a gifted healer thrust into a kingdom of fire and steel. Betrothed to the formidable Sun Elf prince, Ephidel, Nyros arrives in a court of blazing tempers and cold hearts—none colder than Ephidel’s. With his husband indifferent to his existence and nothing familiar to cling to, Nyros tries to find his place in the foreign land.
But what starts as a marriage of nations begins to stir with something far more the slow, unexpected embers of affection.
Twilightfall is the first in the Sun and Moon Series.
Fantasy setting, just a pinch of romance and not even the mention of sex
At first I was happy with this book because it was a real slow burn then around chapter 13 I started to loose interest some of the things I didn't like or are unclear to me in random order - Lysandra is ever present for the first part of the book then is totally absent - at the beginning the book felt like is was from Nyros' POV, then we have a brief part that seems to be from Ephydel's POV and then neither? - Ephydel's mother doesn't even come back when her only son gets married - Nyros father? we discover that is long dead at the end of the book - what happened to Varen? - Tiryx is both a Royal Guard and a General - who is ruling the moon elves while the queen is away for moths? - who will succeed the queen since Nyros is the heir and there is no mention of siblings? will he and Ephydel rule both reigns as one? - a couple of times is mentioned that they speak a different language but never if the use a third language to communicate with each other or if they know all the languages in their world. - after the second wedding and while people are still celebrating they go to talk to the troupes about a never before mentioned academy - I was aboard with the slow burn BUT it needs to burn at some point, the said they are in love with each other, married and are sharing a bed but 🥶 - the romance that should blossom at one point is barely visible under the constant talk about two kingdoms united, different is good, I feel seen not an outsider anymore. it gets a little repetitive too.
the book is very descriptive, often too much and there is a lot of symbolism no idea if there will be more or if the next will be about an other couple but I doubt I will read it

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3.5, rounded up) 🌙 Gay Fantasy | Arranged Marriage | Enemies-to-Slow-Burn Lovers
When I saw the blurb—gay fantasy romance with an arranged marriage? SIGN ME UP. Twilightfall by Imoen Garrett introduces a beautifully imagined world where Sun Elves and Moon Elves are on the brink of peace, brought together through a diplomatic marriage between gentle healer Nyros and the icy, stoic Prince Ephidel.
This book leans heavily into slow burn. If you're expecting immediate sparks or spicy scenes, adjust your expectations—this one is very tame on the romance front. While I personally prefer a bit more heat in my queer fantasy pairings, I still found the dynamics compelling. Nyros' quiet strength and the contrast between the two kingdoms (fire vs. moonlight, politics vs. healing) created an interesting backdrop for their emotional journey.
The main theme—coexistence without domination—was subtle but strong. I really appreciated the way Garrett framed the merging of two cultures, not as a conquest, but as a careful, delicate balance that must be nurtured.
If Book 2 ramps up the emotional and physical tension between Nyros and Ephidel (and maybe gives us a payoff for this very slow burn), then this first book will feel like a worthwhile foundation.
📚 Would I recommend? Yes, especially if you love:
Fantasy politics with a soft emotional core
Slow-burn M/M arranged marriage
Tender character development over steamy romance
I'll be watching for the sequel—because I need to see these two finally set fire to that spark.

When moon elf prince Nyros leaves Lunaris and arrives in Solyx the home of sun elves, to marry prince Ephidel to unify the two kingdoms It’s hot and the man he’s betrothed to seems uninterested in him. But he is steadfast to prove the the kingdoms can coexist. I loved this book. It has everything a good fantasy should have, adventure, magic, and romance. It also proves how distinct cultures can coexist if they find a middle ground by not placing one above the other in importance. The characters also prove just how important it is to stay true to yourself no matter what the rest of the world thinks.
