Author of over seventy books so far. Living on the beautiful west coast of Scotland with my husband, twin daughters and a cat called Mavis, although I am originally from Lancashire in the north of England.
My tastes in all things are eclectic, which extends to my writing. Although I primarily write crime books - especially gangland thrillers - I also write gothic historical romance and fantasy. I publish on Amazon Kindle and some of my novels are available in paperback too. I also have a traditional publishing contract with Boldwood Books.
When I'm not writing - which isn't very often - I enjoy reading Daphne Du Maurier, Edgar Allan Poe, Shirley Jackson, MR James and the Brontes, among many others. I also enjoy swimming, walking and spending time with my family.
The MacGregor family are known throughout Glasgow as “the Bloody MacGregors, never ones to back down from trouble, they’ve built their lives on bare fists and broken rules. You cross them at your peril!
However, Virgil MacGregor has walked away from it all, he’s got a nice little caravan out in the countryside and his life has completely changed, and he loves it. That is until he’s persuaded by the women in his family to go back home to ensure his violent brothers stay out of trouble. His brothers are now working for Toni McVay, the ruthless Queen of Glasgow, and Virgil is about to be dragged right back into a whole load of trouble, with the biggest battles they’ve ever faced.
If I was Virgil I would have left his brothers to just get on with it, they’re all adults and don’t listen to a word he says, but loyalty is everything to this family. Anyway, I really enjoyed this gangland thriller, it’s dark, it’s gritty and it demanded my attention throughout.
*I was invited to read “Fury” by the publisher and have given an honest unbiased review in exchange *
Virgil MacGregor has turned his back on violence and has opted for the quiet life. Living peacefully in his pretty little caravan for the past six months, he feels he has no choice, but to return to Garthamlock after a plea from the three women in his life, his mama, his nonna, and his ex wife Ember. Before long, Virgil is slowly drawn back into the violent life, he’s worked so hard to flee from.
Another gripping crime drama from Heather Atkinson, which had me gripped from beginning to end. It was great to see the ‘Savage Sisters’ making an appearance in this story. I need more of this in my life!!
Thanks to Boldwood Books, the author, and NetGalley, for providing me with this free ARC, with which I leave a voluntary review.
If you’re a fan of this amazing author’s books, then you’ve no doubt read her Savage Sisters series. It won’t have escaped your attention that we already met the MacGregor family there. I’m absolutely thrilled that they now have their own series, because even though they’re all (or at least most of them) a little unhinged, they’ve earned my sympathy. They share an incredibly strong bond and will always step up to defend their family.
Of course, their methods aren’t exactly gentle—but this is gangland crime, and in that world, their way is the only way to survive. The law of the strongest rules supreme, but brute force alone isn’t enough. You also need a hefty dose of cunning, manipulation, and intelligence to keep yourself and your loved ones safe.
I often find it hard to let go of the main characters in a beloved series once it ends. It seems some authors feel the same way, choosing to bring familiar faces back in new books. I couldn’t be happier about that and truly appreciate it. It feels like saying goodbye—but not really goodbye. :)
What else can I say about this book? It was a gem, but I say that about everything I’ve read by this author. She’s simply brilliant at what she does and knows exactly how to craft a gangland crime story that glues me to the pages. I forget everything around me and become completely absorbed in the world she creates. Her writing style and characters pull me in so deeply that it’s hard to come back to reality. When the book ends, I’m genuinely disappointed—because it means another long wait for the next one.
Then again, I don’t mind waiting, because I know that creating a fantastic story takes time—and I’d much rather wait for perfection than rush through something half-baked.
There wasn’t a single thing that bothered me in this book. I was on the edge of my seat, sometimes full of tension, sometimes full of disgust—but always completely engaged. I’m a huge fan of this author and her masterpieces. The blood may spill across the pages, but my enthusiasm flows through this review.
This is a riveting book about Virgil and his family--who are always at odds with each other! Virgil is a fighter who now lives in a caravan when it suddenly burns down. Now he must stay with his family, and Ember, his wife he's divorcing keeps coming around to harass him for reasons unknown. But when his brother--who is in prison--gets harassed as well--he realizes he must do something to stop all this madness. Will he fight again? It's. crazy, often violent look at what a family will do to stay together and protect their own! Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC!
Fury is the first book in a brand new series based around the fearless and hard MacGregor brothers . They are known all across Glasgow as The Bloody MacGregors and aren’t to be messed with. When Virgil one of the brothers has enough he takes himself away from it all to enjoy life without all the drama and settles down to live in peace and harmony. However things don’t go the way he had planned and he is soon back in Glasgow to help his brothers to keep control of the Glasgow streets . This was a great gangland thriller that reeled me right in from the very start. It’s gripping and fast paced and I found myself gasping out loud at times. The MacGregors and other characters have appeared in previous books by this author so some names will be familiar to you but this book can 💯 be read as a standalone.
If you have read any of the author's books before, then you may be aware of The MacGregors from the Savage Sisters series. It is great to see the author has given the MacGregors a series of their own.
Virgil has been forced, coerced, persuaded, whatever you want to call it, to come home. He had removed himself from the family to live in the country and away from the violence after nearly killing a man in a fight. The trouble is, the rest of the MacGregors have run wild since his absence. He has always been the more responsible one, even though he is not the eldest. This family thrives on tension, violence and making money. The only problem is that their lifestyles are not sustainable; one of them is already in prison, and the rest are pushing their luck.
This is another fabulous book by this author. She really does know how to write gritty, Scottish, gangland crime thrillers. I really like this family, although I wouldn't want to meet any of them! The loyalty they have to their family is strong, and while they may bicker amongst themselves, their Gran is a force to be reckoned with.
The area the family live in is run by gangs, each has their own section, and for most of the time, all is ok. But, the peace is only temporary, and there is always someone with more power, persuasion and violence than the brothers.
This is a fast-paced and gritty gangland crime thriller. Introducing a new family, players and lots of drama, fights and downright nastiness. It makes great reading for fans of this author and genre, and it is one I would definitely recommend.
Heather Atkinson wastes no time drawing readers into the dangerous and dramatic world of the McGregors — a family as fascinating as they are fiery. There’s plenty of deep-rooted sibling rivalry and long-held grudges bubbling beneath the surface, making this a gripping and emotional read from the start. Virgil just wants to live life on his own terms, away from the family chaos, but he’s soon dragged back into the McGregor drama in a big way. Wyatt, meanwhile, is an especially intriguing character — there’s definitely something not quite right there, and I’ll be very interested to see how his story unfolds as the series develops.
Ludovica, the formidable family matriarch, is without a doubt my favourite character. She’s sharp, shrewd, and commands every scene she’s in. With rival grandmother Betty treading on her toes, there’s bound to be plenty of explosive and spellbinding moments ahead — a clash I can’t wait to witness.
I also love when a book ends with the promise of much more action to come, and Fury absolutely delivers on that front. It’s a strong, gritty start to a new gangland saga that cleverly includes some familiar characters from earlier series, giving long-time fans a real treat. Roll on Book 2!
Thank you to Net Galley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is an exceptional read that really took me by suprise. I loved the Savage series and I was so glad that they appeared in the story. I loved that the author linked this to her other books and I love Rose. The family is interesting and I liked that Vigil seems to be the only one who wants to better himself. The plot is very good and pulled me in very quickly and is very much character driven, which is how I prefer stories. I did unfortunately fall into the trap of thinking Ember had burnt down the caravan, I was very wrong and again I enjoy a book that distracts me like that and has me thinking of the wrong person. I always found myself rooting for Vigil, hating Ember and loving every scene that Ludovica is in. I liked the premise and in was executed perfectly. I hope another book is coming soon as I would love to know what is next for Vigil and the family. A solid five stars from me. This is definitely a book for fans of Heather Burnside and Stephanie Harte. Heather Atkinson is one of favourite authors and I cannot wait to see what she writes next.

There's nothing I like better than a good gangland crime book and this one doesn't disappoint. It's the first book in a new series and we've met the MacGregors before. To say that the family is a little unhinged, is putting it mildly. But their family bond is strong.
We have characters appearing in this book that have already had their own series. I was on the edge of my seat for most of this book. Filled with suspense, the story has been well-plotted. I'm already enthralled with this series.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #BoldwoodBooks and the author #HeatherAtkinson for my ARC of #Fury in exchange for an honest review.
Fury had me on the edge of my seat from the second Virgil's family showed up unexpectedly to his new sanctuary. He left their empire for a quiet life in a caravan, no longer wishing to be part of anything violent, but it seems his family is unaccepting of this change. Virgil's brothers have gotten in over their heads, and his grandmother, mother, and estranged wife need him to come home and reign them back in and away from trouble. As such, Virgil slowly gets sucked back into the life he wanted so desperately to leave behind.
Fury is a dark and violent crime drama. I was pulled in and kept engaged through the entire story. The grittiness of this gangland novel is not for the faint of heart. The author crafted Virgil's story with precision and terrific writing. Each scene leaves you craving more so be prepared to not want to put this book down until you read the last word. You'll be on the edge of your seat, wondering what the author has coming at you next.
This is my first experience with Heather Atkinson's books, and it won't be my last.
❤️ WoW. . . . . . The Queen of gangland Crime books is Back! ❤️
Fury by Heather Atkinson is the first book in the new "The Bloody MacGregors" series and WoW what a Superb and Gritty book this was from start to finish. it had me sitting on the edge of my seat. Once I opened my kindle and start to read Fury, I was hook and could not put it down, especially as I wanted to find out more about this new MacGregor family and they are great! before I realised I was finished! WoW Superb and I love this new family. . . . . They so believable and I loved learning about them. Plus, It was great to see the ‘Savage Sisters’ making an appearance in this story.
Heather Atkinson is one of the best authors out there that writes excellent Gangland crime series that will have you hooked and turning the pages over on your kindle to find out what happens next.
I am looking forward to the next book with in this excellent The Bloody MacGregors series.
I highly recommend this book and another 5 massive ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
If you like the writing of Martina Cole and Kimberley Chambers you will love Heather Atkinson. She delivers yet again with this gritty gangland thriller where two families from previous novels come together. The MacGregors and the Savages are names to be reckoned with in their own rights but when the two come together watch out!
This is book one in the 'Bloody MacGregors' series but those that have read the Savage Sisters series will recognize Rose as a character in this book. Virgil MacGregor has tried to put his violent past behind him but he finds himself being pulled back into his family business of violence despite his best efforts to resist. His wife Emma is up to her conniving ways and people, including his brothers, are constantly trying to push his buttons. At what point will Virgil break?
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to the sequels, they just can't come fast enough! A highly recommended read - 5 stars!!!
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book.
Once again, Heather Atkinson has impressed us with her brilliant book. This marks the beginning of a new series centered around the McGregor family, known for their toughness and fearsome reputation. It's a gripping crime story, and I loved how the family matriarch, Nonna, refuses to put up with any nonsense, which adds depth to the family dynamic.
The McGregor family is fiercely protective of one another; when one member fights, they all come together to support them, regardless of the circumstances. I felt like I quickly got to know the characters, and I'm excited that this is just the first installment in the series. The story focuses on Virgil, the second-oldest son, and his trouble-making wife, Ember. I hope to meet the rest of the family in future books.
The riveting start to a new series features The MacGregor family. Virgil MacGregor is tough and ruthless but he has changed and is trying to live a peaceful life but being a MacGregor is that even possible? I felt so happy to see The Savage Sisters from a previous series, mainly my favourite sister Rose who is dating Warren MacGregor. The plot had me engaged, on the edge of my seat, cringing in disgust and most of all involved in all the thrills of the gangland world. The author has a talent for dragging you into the characters drama and not wanting to come out. The only downside to this book is that now I have to impatiently wait for the next.
What a mind blowing first book, in a new series from this author! THE BLOODY MCGREGORS . Virgil is the one in the family that everyone looks up to , but after an underground fight in which he nearly killed his opponent, he insists he is a new man. He has moved away from Garthamlock and bought a caravan. The caravan is set on fire but who and why?? He is teetotal, a d no longer fights, but is he a changed man?. This is action packed with a fantastic touch of another familiar family member entwined into it??????? Will Virgil remain calm under pressure to protect his family? Will he fight? Can't wait for the next one A MUST READ
I'm sure you'll agree that Atkinson is the Queen when it comes to writing gangland fiction. Fury is the first in her new series entitled 'The Bloody MacGregors'. Whilst I'm yet to read the Savage Sisters series I'm on the understanding that the Mcgregor family feature heavily there.
While they may not always be the nicest family in the world - mess with them and see - the Mcgregor's are always 'family first' and will do whatever it takes to protect them, legal or not.
What a great series opener! It fast turned into a two sitting read for me. It had me gripped from the opening chapters!
This novel is the introduction to a new strong Glaswegian gangster family, The Bloody McGregor’s Virgil has gone legit, taking it easy and has left his family, ex wife and well basically the gangster life behind him. Or so he thinks…. Forced to return home after his bothers get into strife and further pushed by Ember he is soon fully emerged back into the world he left behind. A world where fists do the talking. A great read, will read the next in the series. Like how the Savage family make an appearance!
This is another very good gangland thriller series from the author. It's well plotted, with vivid descriptions and plenty of suspense. The characters are all slightly demented, apart from Virgil who is trying to reform! If you like the Savage Sisters series, then you will enjoy this new series featuring the Mac Gregor family. It is sure to be a winner for the author. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.
The MacGregor boys are all unique, but each one is trouble in their own way. Their mum and gran do their best to keep them in check, but Virgil, one of the brothers, just wants some peace. He and his wife separated because she was as bad-tempered as he is. However, that quiet life he hopes for isn’t in the cards, as his brothers are out of control, and his mum and gran pull him back home. Things are about to get a whole lot worse. I absolutely loved the first installment of this series!
A new series, and it is full of excitement and action from beginning to end. The McGregor family is not going to be pushed around by anyone. Even the grandmother, nonna, is badass. The book has a cliff hanger, but it is done in a way that it still makes this book work. An excellent book and great characters.
Whew! This one will leave you breathless. Full of twists and turns, it combines family loyalties and the tests they face, with the strength to survive against all odds. Crime, power and surprising heartbreak along the way, the end will surprise you!
I love all Heather Parkinson's books. I have been struggling as I have read all her books and.trying to read other authors When this book was released i read it and couldn't put it down another gripping story amazing thank you
Fury is a good and enjoyable read and a promising start to a new gangland series set in Scotland featuring the Macgregor brothers. Virgil, the head of his family returns to the fold after a six month absence. The authors writing is good and the plot is well thought out but this read didn't wow me or become the page turner I was hoping for. It started off quite slowly so it took time for me to become familiar with its characters. There are hints of past family crimes that I hope will be explored more in future books. All in all a good start to a gangland series and I'd like to read the next book to see what is in store for Virgil and his family.
