3☆ So...Book 1 was great!
I'm bummed about this follow-up to The Ever King, and I don't think it's a problem of high expectations. I think the author got lost in her own story and didn't ask for directions. She could probably trim 100 pages by cutting out the explanations of explanations and affirmations of affirmations. Also the repetitive repeating of repeated information.
The first 40% kept me interested during the painful separation and white-knuckled reunion. The next 40% was filled with some interesting collisions of 2 worlds, but the pacing was all over the place, with new plot points popping up and then falling back into the background. The final 20% I was struggling to finish and found myself skimming several times except during The Big Battle. All of the many belated affirmations for Erik began to ring a little hollow after a while; also, we get it: he's a vocal feminist now! 👸🏽🧜♀️👩🏽🎤🚺🦹🏿♀️🧝🏽♀️🦸🏻♀️
It's sad because there are fantastic characters and some good bits sprinkled into the whole (hence my many highlights), but these rich bursts of flavor get diluted by excess material leading to boredom. The steam was ok, somewhat tame, but that throne room got some action. 🥳 I may still check out Jonas' and Tait's stories when they come out; hopefully the author will have gotten some constructive feedback and a ruthless editor to help ensure a finished story worthy of her great characters.

2.5 but rounded down
The follow up to The Ever King was nothing like the previous volume. The first 30% were good as Erik visits Livia’s parents to ask for their help, almost getting killed in the process. However, after that, it turns into a sappy romance. The alpha male turns into a doormat, his personality total different than in the 1st volume. Sugar coated love declarations are thrown every few pages and I wanted to give up. I really hate it when characters change their personality after they fell in love, and the prose becomes nauseously sweet. However, I do not read romance in general, I only tolerate fantasy with some romantic subplot. As long it is not insta-love and the relationship does not completely over powers the plot. No such luck here.
The novel was saved by the secondary characters who remain interesting for the most part. Until everyone started to become such great friends, forgetting instantly that they wanted to kill each other a few days previously. I am not sure I will read Jonas story as forced marriage is not a trope that has any appeal to me.

I so badly wanted this to be another 5 star read, but the author made some critical miscalculations with the pacing. The first third was actually really good. The stakes were high, there were a lot of interesting things happening, and some of the lesser known characters were more developed, including Livia’s family. This part of the plot felt more like a pirate adventure and would be perfect for a film adaptation. During this first chunk the MC’s were separated, and as a romance junky, I don’t tend to enjoy these kinds of separations, so it’s a big statement for me to say that this first portion was the best part of the book.
Once Livia was rescued my interest in the plot mostly fizzled out. It felt like an epilogue that lasted 250 pages. I love a morally gray MMC who is only soft for his FMC, but I felt like he went a little too soft? There were a lot of mushy declarations being made left and right. It was a bit over the top even for me. I think the main issue was that the book just felt unnecessarily long. I think the author could have trimmed down at least a hundred pages of text. It all just started to feel very repetitive to the point where I double checked that this was really a duology. It dragged on so long that I half expected some new villain to be dropped into the story just to spice things up.
After loving The Ever King, I’m devastated that I didn’t fully love this. It was still a decent read, but I wanted so badly for this duology to finish strong. The silver lining is that this book was so unmemorable, that I’ll probably just revert back to book one in my mind. 😅🙃

This was EPIC. A really great ending to the storyline of Livia and Erik.
This sequel has a good amount of time where the MMC and FMC are separated and I thought it was handled pretty well. It didn't seem to drag and both POVs had good support characters and enough action that it was flying by.
Livia and Erik were great together, they worked together really well and were very understanding of the other's issues. Both characters have a dark side, which I think works a little better when you have a morally grey MMC. Those characters with vanilla FMC's just aren't as believable.
And the finale was super entertaining and super action packed. I am really happy with how this ended.
I think my only real issue with this series is the pirate aspect, not so much just being on the ship and all that, but some of the dialogue is just cringe to me and it really takes me out of the story at times, but it's honestly few and far between.
But I would ABSOLUTELY recommend this series and I'm super stoked not only to go back and read the prequel series but continue this one. ❤️🔥❤️🔥

I honestly can’t figure out how I feel about this book and this series as a whole. This book in particular started out much better than the first one and I couldn’t put it down for the first 30%. But then it got slow and felt really drawn out by the end. But I was still intrigued enough to want to know what happened!
The good:
- the side characters and found family aspect of this book.
- a dark, blood thirsty MMC who is the epitome of touch her and die.
- the world, give me pirates, Fae, witches, and Vikings any day of the week
- the chemistry between our main couple continued to get hotter and hotter
The not so good:
- very inconsistent pacing, it seemed like every time the book picked up it would immediately slow down again
- very poorly explained magic system.
- romance with a side of fantasy. This is personal to me, but I like my fantasy romance to lean more towards the fantasy elements with the romance as a sub plot. And the relationship between the couple was definitely the focus here. WHICH IS NOT A BAD THING AT ALL!! I know people LOVE this so I definitely think this series would be great for people just starting out in the fantasy romance genre or those who like more romance than fantasy!
- the FMC was very boring to me, I don’t know why I simply felt nothing towards her.
All in all I felt bored more often than not and just kept wanting MORE! Not sure if I will continue this series.

I adored this duology so much 🥹 I won’t go into too much detail since this is book #2, but the Pirates of the Caribbean… but make it fae 🏴☠️✨ dream continues right where the first book left off.
Erik and Livia’s love story ende in book 1 with Livia getting kidnapped 😱, and obviously Erik will do anything to get her back. We get both POVs as they fight to find their way back to each other💞 Erik is the ultimate bad boy pirate (so freaking hot🔥) and I loved how the story didn’t just give us an instant reunion. Instead of a quick two-chapter fix, we actually get a true separation, ups and downs, and an escape plan. That slow-burn reunion made their story so much more satisfying 🫠.
I really enjoyed the buildup of them finding their way back to each other again, and I think that’s what hooked me the most. Plus, we’re introduced to new characters and new parts of the world that kept the story fresh and exciting ⚔️ .
Livia is such a stubborn, smart baddie and as an FMC, she made me love her even more. Both POVs were so strong, which made it easy to stay invested the whole way through. Erik still super possessive don't you worry and their reunion let's just say that it is veeeery nice 😮💨
I definitely recommend this series to anyone who loves fae ✨🧚 and pirates 🏴☠️💫 Personally, book #3 was my favorite of the series, but to really connect with those characters, you need to read this one first, it makes the whole reading journey 1000% better (but can be read as a standalone)

I felt like I spent most of this book just reading for the sake of making it to the end. It's quite chunky, being 452 pages, but what would normally take me two days max to finish ended up taking me six days and that was with me skim reading more than I would like to admit. I just didn't feel any sort of connection with the characters or the plot and was mostly disinterested in everything that was happening.
There were good moments, little sparks of potential here and there, but not enough to redeem the whole thing for me unfortunately.

DNF at 48% for now.
I just don’t care about any of it.
The story lost its momentum, which is sad, because I really enjoyed the first book.
This book picks up right where The Ever King ended. Livia is now captive on a remote and hidden island, and Erik needs to find a way to get to her and save her, but he was taken captive by Livia’s father when he went to them to ask for their help.
I am not a fan of the “main characters being separated” trope. Sadly, Livia and Erik were apart until the 48% mark, and while I didn’t mind at first, because it created a sense of urgency and it added tension to the plot, I got tired of it after a while. I just don’t feel connected to the characters anymore, and I don’t care about them, their romance, or the politics of their kingdom anymore. I tried to push through, just for the sake of finishing this book, but it’s been weeks, and I keep reading other books because I am not interested in continuing this one anymore, so I will put it aside for now.
I enjoyed seeing Erik work with Livia’s family. They had a rough start, but eventually they found a way to work together to find and save Livia, but sadly, even this unlikely alliance and the addition of new characters were not enough to keep my interest.
The writing felt repetitive. I feel like I’ve read the same inner monologues and speeches many times in the first half I’ve read, and it also felt a lot like telling and not showing. It was an exposition of facts and history, without much context or subtlety.
Skadi and her vagueness annoyed me so much. She is a new character introduced in this sequel, and I can’t stand her. She wants to help, but is stuck herself in a not-so-good situation, but she couldn’t have a clear conversation to save her life. Everything she said was vague and convoluted, and even the conversations she had with other characters from her island were confusing, and after a while, I just couldn’t take it anymore. I like mysterious characters, but that was too much for me to enjoy or to keep me intrigued.

The writing felt repetitive. I feel like I’ve read the same inner monologues and speeches many times in the first half I’ve read, and it also felt a lot like telling and not showing. It was an exposition of facts and history, without much context or subtlety.
Skadi and her vagueness annoyed me so much. She is a new character introduced in this sequel, and I can’t stand her. She wants to help, but is stuck herself in a not-so-good situation, but she couldn’t have a clear conversation to save her life. Everything she said was vague and convoluted, and even the conversations she had with other characters from her island were confusing, and after a while, I just couldn’t take it anymore. I like mysterious characters, but that was too much for me to enjoy or to keep me intrigued.

I’m obsessed with how frequently Eric called people bastards in this book.
I have zero notes. This book was everything I hoped it would be and then some. From all 11 (ELEVEN OMG) books in this universe that I have read so far, this book honestly made me laugh out loud the most. So much subtle observational comedy which I’m not entirely sure was even meant to be so funny, but oh my god it waaassss.

To say I squealed when I received the email that I had been approved to receive an early copy of The Ever Queen is an understatement. I absolutely adored The Ever King when I finally picked it up several months back, and the conclusion to Livia and Erik's duet did not disappoint. The pacing of this book was consistent with the first instalment to the series with its descriptive writing which left me enraptured from beginning to end. I could not put this book down and finished it within one sitting... that's how obsessed I am. I was thrilled to see a more present role from Valen Ferus, father of Livia and the main character in the first three books in The Broken Kingdom series, and Steig. I adored both characters within their original series, and it's such a joy to see a more present role on-page with the others including Elise, Kase, Sol, Tor, Ari and more. I'm so impressed with how seamlessly author L.J. Andrews has weaved and combined a lore filled with the past and the present, making new readers read with ease whilst previous readers can better appreciate and enjoy the inclusion of characters we have already grown to know and love.
This book has just further cemented my sheer love and adoration for all things Livia Ferus. Livia holds all of the best qualities from her parents, and to see her utilise those qualities and strengths is such a joy as a fan of Valen and Elise. I always knew Valen would be the most amazing girl-dad, and his role within this book just further solidifies that claim. I adore that as a father Valen undoubtedly wants to see his children safe, loved and out of harm. Livia undergoes a lot of despair and torment in the first half of this story, and seeing the raw love and sense of family that she shares with her father is so special. Valen knows that as much as he wants to lock Livia away in a tower and throw away the key, he could never stop her from facing her fate and her potential. Valen is the best father, supporter, warrior, and leader to his children and people, and his involvement and addition to the story made it all the more sweeter. I already adored Livia as a character from The Ever King, and yet I had found more space for that love to grow after finishing The Ever Queen. Livia's loyalty and fierceness are her greatest attributes, as are her loving and forgiving nature. She proves that she is not a woman who is to be deemed as meek and docile, and is instead a worthy adversary of her own right. Livia's growth and strength was a thrilling journey to go on, and as sad as I am to be leaving her point-of-view in future instalments to the series, I firmly believe this will not be the last that we see or hear of Livia Ferus.
The Ever Queen offers a deeper insight into the emotional vulnerability that can surround a deadly Sea Fae such as Erik Bloodsinger, King of the Ever. After the betrayal of a man he trusted and the kidnapping of his beloved mate, Erik is forced to seek help from outside forces who wish to see him dead as opposed to offering him the aid that he seeks. We see Erik go to great lengths and willingly risk his life several times to ensure the safe return of Livia. I absolutely loved the thrilling and deadly introduction to Erik during The Ever King, and I was glad to see a great deal of growth to his character in the second instalment to this series. Still dangerous and deadly to any who cross him, but with a reluctant willingness to emotionally let more people in. It was emotionally moving to read as Erik realised that he had never truly been as alone as he had thought, and that blood isn't all that made a family. The explosive introduction between Erik and Valen as they forged a tentative agreement to see Livia returned home safely, his unspoken kinship with Steig, and the bonds he forged with his crew on the Ever Ship. Erik's journey is more emotionally driven as opposed to physical, and seeing him gain a new insight on life and what being the ruler of the Ever Kingdom can be is absolutely everything. I'm going to miss this villainous and poisonous man so much, and I hope to see more appearances of him in future instalments to the series.
I am truly amazed and impressed with the follow-up and conclusion to Erik and Livia's duet in The Ever Queen. Author L.J. Andrews has set out to impress with the strong addition to The Ever Seas series, and I cannot wait to see what comes next for Jonas in his story The Mist Thief: A Dark Fantasy Romance.

The world expanded so much in this book two for me. I enjoyed it and the more time we got to spend with side characters. I enjoyed where the plot on and I'm excited to go into the next.

2.5 stars This book was just words on a page to me. I felt no connection to the characters or their journey. The pacing was all over the place, and the world-building and character motivations, like in book one, are still choppy and confusing. Maybe those who have read the original series won't have the same experience with this spin-off, but I spent much of my time reading, feeling as though I was missing something.
So much of the word count is spent on clunky exposition and rehashing the same internal monologues, conversations and affirmations among the characters, to the point where it wasn't even impactful, just monotonous.
I kept checking how long was left until the end of the chapter or the end of the book. A clear sign of how disinterested I was. It's a shame because there were a few hidden gems among the characters and prose, but they were drowned out by the rest of it.
This is the conclusion to Erik and Livia's duology. Book 3 in this inter-connected series will shift focus to a new couple and, though the new MCs are intriguing characters, I've read two books now, and at best, I can say I'm indifferent to the story. I just don't think this series is for me.

This book gave me way too many feelings. I am forever an Erik Bloodsinger girlie. This man is the epitome of everything I love in an MMC. Morally grey, fearsome, barbed, loyal, and doesn’t know his worth (ie: Cardan, Jacks, Luther, and Dorian). I ATE this up and left no crumbs. Thank you LJ Andrews for the wonderful Bloodsinger experience.
I loved how fierce I felt like Livia got over the course of this book too. I loved how her family got brought into the mix, finally. I just completely love her story.
There were a few things about this book I have slight qualms with: sometimes it felt the world building outside of the Ever Sea was a bit rushed, and I got confused. And it did feel like this book could’ve been just a tad bit shorter.
But, overall I thoroughly enjoyed my time with this book, and I could not emphasize this enough: I CANNOT WAIT TO READ ABOUT JONAS. I am giddy over him already. 4.5 stars- because…. in the clerb, we all fam. 🌟

Broody, down right moody, and definitely a little rough around the edges but so damn passionate and loyal to the ones you love! This character stole my heart and ran right the hell away with it!🏃❤️ The way he loved his queen, fought for her ⚔️, faced his enemies for her (AKA her father, her entire family, his kingdom and his family), and even would lay down his life for her with zero hesitation….ummm sign me up!!!🙋🏼♀️🫠🥵
LIVIA is just such a strong and powerful and beautifully written woman for Erik in my opinion! She just feels very genuine and she is such an incredible fighter for her family and the man she loves! She doesn’t hesitate to prove herself and everyone around her wrong! She never backs down from a fight or a challenge! I think these two characters are just so well matched!😍❤️🫶🏻

I am so in love with this series 💕 The writing is so well-done that I can picture everything in such vivid detail. The plot is amazing, I love every single character, and the romance between Erik and Livia is just beautiful! Also, the final battle gave me chills! Fantastic book!

Amazing! Hands down my favorite in the series so far.
This book picks up after a cliffhanger that leaves Livia and Erik separated. Livia is taken to the palace of Natthaven, home to the elves. To save her, the Nightfolk and the Ever Kingdom are forced into an uneasy alliance, united by a single goal. The camaraderie that develops between them is genuinely one of the best parts of this novel for me.
One thing I was really worried about was how long it would take for Erik to find Livia. I’ll spare you the anguish and tell you they reunite at the 43% mark, and it was glorious.
Larsson has allied himself with the elves, and in his attempt to uncover Livia’s whereabouts, Erik is forced to secure the alliances of houses in The Ever Kingdom:
* House of Blades
* House of Mists
* House of Bones
* House of Tides
The first book left us questioning Lady Narza’s loyalties. In this one, we finally learn where her allegiance truly lies.
Erik is unhinged in this book. His devotion to Livia reaches an entirely new level. I felt almost overwhelmed by the intensity of his emotions, but in the best way. Livia is right there with him, longing for him just as fiercely. There’s something about mutual yearning that deeply satisfies my soul.
In The Ever King, we learn that Erik has a tendency toward bloodlust. Here, we see exactly how far he’s willing to go to protect her. He kills. He tortures. He’s even willing to betray his own people for her.
“You promised,” he cried. “You vowed I could live.”
“I allowed you to live as promised.” I turned at the doorway of the cell. “It was you who failed to negotiate how long.”
“For every moment he had you, I’d already planned to make him suffer. But to know he had his hands on you, that he drew blood from you, there is not a realm—from the gods to your people—who will not hear his screams. They will become myths, the haunts of the seas.”
The fight scenes were incredible. Final battles in a series often fall flat, but here they’re detailed, intense, and beautifully written. Nothing felt rushed or lacking. What’s more, all loose ends were tied.

"Livia Earthmender, the queen of kings!" 🥹
The middle of this one lagged a bit. I do realize that Eric and Livia deserved their reunion, though. I was happy they got that! I was just impatient, ready to get into the action.
Towards the end was one of the most epic, fearsome clashes of forces I've ever read. The writing was so descriptive; I saw each and every moment that was described in my head in detail! As someone who has trouble visualizing, this was amazing. The world of the sea fae is unique in every way, with the use of their singing/voice as power and the sea witches with their herbs and spells.
The plot twist and redemption arc with Naza was something I wasn't ready for. She is an important, complex character that unexpectedly grew on me. Her ability to admit she did wrong was refreshing. Livia's parents were caring, loving, and understanding. I think they healed Eric in all the ways he deserved as a boy. 🥰 This was a wonderful conclusion to their story. I'll definitely be reading book 3.

This is a prefect Dark fantasy Romance with perfect characters and plot. And the bonus scene had me melting🤭

i did like book one but man… i just feel like erik and livia’s connection is so “strong” but it feels so forced. like i love an obsessed man but why is his every single thought about livia and livia alone?? im so sorry he became so boring to me now.
and im also just not impressed with the way the plot is unfolding. unfortunately this is just a no from me and it put me back into a slump so yayyyy! praying i can dig myself out of it

4.5⭐️ rounded up!
Don’t ask me how I devoured this is two days. I may or may not have stayed up until 3am….
I absolutely LOVE when the next book is better than the first. This was so good. The right amount of drama, the right amount of twists. And honestly the whole group of characters made it perfect. Each character had such a good contribution to the story. I always say a book is only good if it gets the side characters right. And LJ really did. Jonas and Celine are still my favourites but Mira and Tait get a special shout out 🤣
I know this was a fantasy romance, and Erik and Livia were amazing in this (and that’s despite the fact that they were apart for almost half the book). But I’m telling you, this was one of those novels where the story and plot was just so interesting it was almost like the romance took a backseat (in a very good way). I was consumed with how Erik, Celine and Tait developed their relationships with the Earth folk. It was so genuine and those moments were priceless.
I will say that the last 10 to 15% dragged just a little. But this doesn’t cost it a star because I know it was needed to set the premise for x and x’s story (don’t want to add a spoiler). I reckon the next story will be really interesting - the female MC’s magic for that one sounds different from what we have seen and the last few chapters were a really good intro to what we will be seeing.

I LOVED THE EVER KING SO MUCH. While I still think the storyline and writing was so amazing, this one just wasn’t as good in my opinion.
I did feel like the beginning dragged on a bit and I really missed the angst and tension that was in book 1!
Still a great duet, though and definitely recommend.

Book 2 in the ever seas series by lj andrews. I love love loved it! so far both books are an easy 5 stars. The writing is so captivating and the characters are just so easy to love...... did I mention the HOT HOT HOT Erik Bloodsinger! ahhhhh! the way i absolutely love this series! 10/10

Unfortunately after making it three quarters of the way through the book, this is my first DNF of 2024. Which I am so sad about because I gave the first book five stars which I stand by, but something about this half of the story had me forcing myself to finish… and I just couldn’t do it anymore when I have so many other books I’m really wanting to read.
So first off, everything felt so rushed. Livia has been kidnapped by Larson and then she’s “made an ally” in this woman who is there on the isle too, but like I don’t recall where this “bond” came from. They literally have like one conversation and then Livia is saying she knows her. Like excuse me?? Her name started with an S, Skati or something? I don’t even remember because her character was so bland and boring and had zero substance and nothing noteworthy to remember.
Now the real issue I had with this book. So the whole point of this enemy to lovers story was that Livia’s father axed off Erik Bloodsinger’s fathers head and so obviously Erik wanted revenge for that and that’s why he kidnapped Livia yadda yadda yadda. So my issue is Erik just shows up to the Earth Fae lands or whatever, he is captured by them and then it’s Livia’s friends and her little brother Rorik who help Erik escape to go and rescue Livia, but then Elise (Livia’s mother) sends Livia’s father to go and help and so he does and then all of the sudden after they rescue Livia, Erik and her dad are JUST CHILL WITH EACH OTHER?? Like yeah they explain that Erik’s dad was a shitty person but come on that kind of hate doesn’t just disappear to make everything all happy, and plus all the other Sea Fae and Earth Fae just suddenly are chill with each other too and it’s like none of the past idk 20 years even happened!? No way. That’s too convenient and I didn’t buy it for a minute. It felt fake and I couldn’t subject myself to play along with that any longer.
Anyways, enough ranting, first book was ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️, this one is ⭐️⭐️ and believe me I was tempted to give it just one star but I do like Erik and Livia as characters which is the only redeeming part of this disappointing sequel.
Maybe one day I’ll give this book one more go but I’m not going to be forcing myself to read Jonas’ book, why does he even get a book in the first place? I like sticking to the main characters in a series thank you very much.
