This book was such a peaceful and calming read. A something gentle read. Each story is short and simple, but still meaningful. I liked reading one or two at a time, especially before bed, it helped me slow down and clear my mind. The Zen clarity kit was a great addition at the start.
The stories follow a quiet cat living in a monastery, and there’s something very soothing about the way the cat moves through each moment. The writing doesn’t try to teach or explain too much, but instead lets you feel and reflect. After each story, there are a few questions that helped me think more deeply about what I’d just read.
The illustrations were a nice touch too. I read the digital version. They added to the calm feeling of the book.
This is the kind of book I’ll come back to again. It’s perfect for when life feels too busy or loud. If you’re looking for something quiet, thoughtful, and gentle, I’d definitely recommend it.
A soothing collection of meditative stories about a cat in a monastery, offering very short stories that can be read in a few minutes or less, each foregrounded by a delightful black and white illustrations. (Another reviewer indicates that the illustrations are AI generated. I did not see a note in the book regarding the illustrations. I also read the kindle version and wonder if the illustrations are colored in hardcopy?). Even though the wuther prefaces the book by saying the stories are not meant to impart a lesson but a feeling, each section is followed by a set of questions for self-reflection. I read this slowly, a story or two at a time before bed, and it was perfect for holding a peaceful space between the day and sleep, but can be read anytime. I will likely re-read it again soon.
A thought-provoking and zen book “The cat and the moon” is a book that contains 33 zen stories to read whenever you feel overwhelmed or tired or when you just need something to relax. Kai Tsukimi has penned a captivating book with plenty of thought provoking tales with lovely drawings. It’s interesting that at the end of each story, the author included some questions to let readers think, analyze and connect each story with their own lives. It deals with quite familiar and helpful topics for those who want to keep away from stressful moments and try to disconnect. I found this read catchy, simple and gentle; the stories are short and the message inside them is easy to understand. All in all, it’s a highly recommended book.
A book that I didn't know I was needing, it is a reading that will help you find moments of inner peace and to get out a little of that day to day so full of worries and expectations. This book has short stories that will take you to have moments of calm that will improve your life, it is very important to take these moments to reflect and realize what is really important in life, this will lead you to make changes and to have the life you always dreamed of. I highly recommend it, it led me to have moments of real calm that have now become part of my daily routine and this simply improved everything.
Reading The Cat and The Moon felt like pressing pause on my hectic life. Each of the 33 Zen stories is short, but powerful, like a gentle whisper reminding you to breathe, slow down, and see the beauty right in front of you. I didn’t expect something so simple to move me this deeply, but these tales really reached into a quiet place inside me. The mysterious cat adds such a peaceful, almost magical presence to the stories. I especially appreciated the reflections that follow each tale, they helped me apply the lessons to my daily life. This book is a small treasure for anyone looking for calm and clarity.
This collection of short stories gently guides the reader toward subtle shifts in awareness. Each story offers a quiet invitation to see differently, without ever forcing an answer or lesson. I appreciated how the guidance is present but never spelled out, allowing space for personal insight.
The reflection questions are especially helpful for beginners, giving structure without limiting interpretation.
I’d recommend this to anyone looking to soften their perception, cultivate calm, or become more at ease with the unknown. It’s a peaceful, thoughtful read that encourages introspection without pressure.
I picked up this book out of curiosity, not really expecting much. But I was pleasantly surprised. It’s very warm and soothing. The writing is simple but meaningful, and each story left me feeling a bit more grounded. What really stood out was how easy it was to read a story in just a few minutes and still feel the effects linger for hours. The themes sneak up on you and give you a fresh perspective. I also loved how the cat is more than just a character; it becomes a quiet guide. This book felt like a soft reset for my mindset.
I'm not sure about the relieving stress, but I don't think I have that much stress in my life. However, each story is short and concise, and if you read them slowly, then think about it, the mystery flows through you and then you start to feel the calm. Then, hopefully, it will become part of you. Try not to read them straight through, one after another. Give yourself time to absorb the meaning and mystery.
This isn't your classic novel, but rather a collection of short little stories involving the adventures (and misadventures) of an unnamed cat living at a monastery. Each story ends with a lesson or journal prompt or point to ponder. It's not something you want to read in one sitting, but something to space out over a period of days. At least this is what I did.
I used to read lots of stories like this, but they always seemed like ‘old’ stories that had been passed around & down & were found in old boxes, — but these all seem like new stories, that were created just for this book ( ! )
Like the others I feel like this could add something special to anyone's daily reflection/self care practices! Makes me look at the moon and my cat differently as well which is fun. The biggest difference is that there are reflection questions at the end of the sections and not after ever short Zen story.
