This was a cute and fun Halloween mystery. There is a influencer contest, a pet parade, a festival, and holiday baked goods and coffees. The murder and the mystery around it were interesting. It was unusual with a surprise ending.

Author Tonya Kappes ups her game in the 18th installment of the Killer Coffee Mysteries. I think this story is my favorite now. There’s an intriguing cozy mystery that takes place during a Fall Festival and all the fall and Halloween decor is described so well that I almost felt like I was there. The roles of the influencers add a twist to the story and the murder mystery. Pepper is out and about with Roxy frequently while she’s investigating, and there’s another cute dog up for adoption that’s hanging out with them. An enjoyable read!

I highly recommend this entire series to cozy and mystery readers!

This was a great read. The plot was different in that it involved influencers and a general idea of how they operate it’s hoped these people will put a spotlight on Honey Springs. Of course things don’t go to plan as one of the influencers is killed and suspicion thrown on Birdie, one of their own. It’s up to Roxy and her family to help the sheriff solve the case.

The murder plot was well developed. The technology of the influencers, including drones plays a role. Although there were limited suspects I was surprised when the killer and motive were revealed.

The wonderful characters are the main impetus to read this book. I also appreciate the pet adoption program that is an integral part of this delightful series.

I was fortunate to receive an advanced copy of this book which I highly recommend.

The town of Honey Springs, in Kentucky, has planned the best and most spooky Neewollah Festival ever! Roxy’s coffee shop, the Bean Hive, has designed new, special coffee flavors and unique pastries to celebrate. Three influencers are there to compete for a million-dollar Kentucky tourism contract. At the end of the week, one will be eliminated, and the other two will go to the final round in Louisville.

Brewing up Bones treats us to an intriguing new mystery, the beauty of autumn in Honey Springs, and the folks who make up the town. It is a delight to visit with the regular characters, so clearly defined by their conversations and behaviors. The influencers are a whole different type of people, who can change their personalities with each click of the camera.

Birdie, Roxy’s manager at the Bean Hive, couldn’t wait to meet the influencers she loves to follow. The three remaining in the competition are Addison, Marlowe, and Tilden. Each one has more than four million followers, and are considered the best in the country. Loretta, Birdie’s grandmother, who is in almost every local Southern committee and club, gives the contestants a special tour of Honey Springs. They will attend every special function of the festival, visit all the vendors, and post their excellent shots and reels of all they see and try.

Honey Springs will benefit from their very best posts as they meet and chat up the vendors and shops. For example, they each had one of Roxy’s special Neewollah coffee beverages, and work their magic to “show and tell” their followers about their beverage. Unfortunately, Honey Springs also sees some of the worst of their competitive natures, their high-strung, hair trigger anger, and arguments. Birdie asked Marlowe, her favorite, for a selfie with her, and was blown off like a withered leaf from a tree.

The first full day of the festival was Roxy and Patrick’s wedding anniversary. He arranged for a surprise anniversary party on the beach at the Cocoon Inn. The morning after their party, Pepper, Roxy’s schnauzer, dragged Roxy to that same beach to find Marlowe, one of the influencers, dead.

Sheriff Spencer Shepherd gave Roxy the same order he does whenever a murder has taken place, to let him and his people solve the murder and stay out of it. Roxy planned to do just that, even after her great aunt Maxi prepared the murder board in the kitchen of the Bean Hive. However, Roxy found Birdie’s gorgeous, favorite, signature accessory, her purple scarf woven through with gold threads, left in the bar of Cocoon Inn, where the influencers were staying. Later, it was discovered on a video that Birdie, who Roxy loves as a sister, was seen wearing her scarf and talking with Marlowe the night of the murder.

Roxy knew Birdie would never, ever kill anyone, no matter how hard her feelings were stomped on. If ever there was a time Roxy was glad to still be a licensed attorney, it was to be present when Birdie was questioned at the sheriff’s department.

Roxy was all in on the investigation to find the real killer before Birdie was arrested. Come along with Roxy; I promise you a fascinating, suspect-filled search! I highly recommend this mystery, and the series, especially to those who enjoy well-written Southern cozy mysteries and Halloween.

Many thanks to the publisher, Tonya Kappes Books, who provided a pre-publication copy of this novel. This is my honest review.

Welcome back to Honey Springs, Kentucky—a place where the coffee is hot, the gossip is hotter, and murder has a way of sneaking into the cozy corners of small-town life. In Brewing Up Bones, Tonya Kappes once again brews the perfect blend of humor, heart, and homicide in her beloved Bean Hive Coffeehouse Mystery series.

Fall has settled over the lakeside town, painting it in the warm glow of autumn and anticipation for the annual Neewollah Festival. But the festive atmosphere takes a dark turn when national social media influencer Marlowe Lannigan is found dead in Lake Honey Springs—a shocking twist for someone who was famously terrified of water. Kappes hooks readers right from the start, stirring curiosity and suspicion in equal measure.

Roxy Bloom, our favorite coffee-slinging sleuth and former lawyer, steps in when her eccentric barista, Birdie Bebe, becomes the prime suspect after her signature purple scarf turns up at the crime scene. What follows is a delightful, twist-filled investigation as Roxy trades her espresso machine for an evidence board, determined to clear Birdie’s name and uncover the truth.

Kappes shines in creating a cast of quirky, lovable characters who feel like old friends. Aunt Maxi, the town’s razor-sharp gossip columnist, delivers her usual dose of sass and charm, while Roxy’s loyal schnauzer, Pepper, provides both comic relief and comfort. The dynamic between Roxy and the townsfolk captures the essence of small-town life—where everyone knows everyone, and secrets have a way of bubbling to the surface.

The mystery itself is as rich and complex as a dark roast. From a mysterious burner phone filled with secrets to a cutthroat rivalry between influencers vying for a million-dollar tourism contract, Kappes explores the shadowy side of social media fame and small-town ambition. Each clue deepens the intrigue, leading to a satisfying and surprising conclusion.

Brewing Up Bones is more than just a cozy mystery—it’s a warm invitation to sip, smile, and sleuth alongside Roxy Bloom. With vivid seasonal details, engaging characters, and a mystery that keeps you guessing until the last page, this latest installment is a must-read for fans of coffeehouse cozies and small-town whodunits alike.

Review:

The characters are well rounded and well developed. When a social media influencer is found dead, Roxy and her friends must have to figure out who killed her and why. It will not be easy but they are up to the challenge.

The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and these descriptions pulled me into the story from the very beginning. The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The mystery is well plotted and there are enough clues to consider and suspects to rule out and was not easily solved.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. I enjoyed this book quite a lot.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book and provided my honest review.

Roxy Bloom is adding new Fall flavors to the offerings of her coffee shop The Bean Hive. It's time for the annual Neewollah Festival. There will be a paw-rade in addition to other activities. This year the town of Honey Springs is also a stop along the way for the Kentucky Influencers. The influencers may have plenty of online fans, but aren't scoring points with some of the locals.
After one of the influencers, Marlowe, is found dead near water things go off the rails for many people. Marlowe has said that she was deathly afraid of water, so how did her death come to pass.?Roxy, who is a former lawyer, works for the town sometimes in a legal capacity. She wants to help with the investigation especially after her friend and employee, Birdie, is a possible suspect.
I really enjoyed this latest trip to Honey Springs. There was plenty of action with the usual characters and a few surprises mixed in. Roxy shows again how intuitive and smart she is. You can understand how she left the legal profession behind and loves the small town and all her friends.
I have read other stories about influencers, but still don't understand how you can make a career out of it. I think you would feel that your whole life has to be on display.
In addition to a fabulous cozy mystery, author Tonya Kappes adds some recipes to the end of the book. I may have to try one. If you haven't read any books by this wonderful author, you can start with this one. All her series books work well as standalones.

The heat is on for three social media influencers who are part of the Kentucky Influencer Showcase. One of them will receive a big sponsorship with a lot of money at stake . They have arrived in Honey Springs for the Neewollah Festival. The three seem friendly, but knowing there is a pot of gold for only one of them at the end of this tour changes everything. They have their happy public face and their private face. It is a show, and they are great actors.

When one of the influencers ends up dead, the heat is really turned up for the other two because they both have the most to gain by taking out the competition.

Roxy is immediately on the case as one of their own is thrust into the spotlight as a possible suspect. The mystery deepens, and takes a twist or two before arriving at the final reveal.

This dynamic mystery series is appetizing in so many ways. The descriptive narrative, including the wonderful fall scenery of the town to the scrumptious coffee offerings of the Bean Hive, make reading this book so enjoyable. This author's gift is transporting the reader into the book so that you feel as if you are there. I could almost smell the coffee and feel the autumn breeze.

Thank you to the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Roxy and her adorable Bean Hive coffee shop in charming Honey Springs, Kentucky have it all. Coffee and hometown charm for dayyyys!

But even they can’t escape the ridiculous drama and intrigue that follows town Matriach Loretta when she brings in social media influencers and along with them, their own peculiar expectations of hero like worship and their tantrums when they don’t receive it…ummmmm, catfight much??

When one of the influencers is murdered and Birdie, one of their own is framed to appear as the killer, Roxy is on the job to find the real killer. What a terrific cast of warm, relatable and likable characters that are engaging and caring, with a flawed, charismatic and sensitive main character throughout the series in Roxy, who is brokenhearted when we first meet her in book one and falls in love with Pepper the Schnauzer and he becomes her lifeline and connection to the local townies and lifelong friendships with the Pet palace - love that…I adore the pets she helps get adopted through her sponsorship by hosting them in her coffee shop through the week, in the store, throughout the series. (And I swear my aunt Meadow is her Aunt Maxi!)

The villain reveal was masterfully done and a true surprise and this book, as well as the series, an absolutely worthwhile read

Brewing Up Bones is the 17th book in the Killer Coffee Mystery Series. HoneySprings has been taken over by three high-profile influencers. The trio are competing for the Kentucky tourism contract sponsored by the Kentucky Tourism Committee. Honey Springs is their current location for showcasing the town, businesses, food, and more.

All is not well in the world of these influencers. All three of them, Addison, Marlowe, and Tilden, are seen arguing among themselves at various locations. The murder of Marlowe near Lake Honey Springs tosses Roxy into another murder case. This one is relatively high-profile as the death spans social media at a rapid-fire rate. To complicate matters further, one of Honey Springs’ own is the primary suspect after an unfortunate incident and events between that time and the discovery of Marlowe.

Brewing Up Bones will pull you in and keep you engaged. The mystery was well-written, full of twists and turns, and kept me on my toes. I found myself continually guessing who the murderer could be throughout the story.

I enjoyed all the characters. The world building had me feeling like I was right in the middle of Honey Springs. I was able to visualize the town, the activities, and the people.

Tonya Kappes' books, regardless of the series, never fail to entertain, provide a good story, and keep the reader's attention and interest. This particular series is, without hesitation, one of my favorites, second only to the Kenni Lowry mystery series, although ALL of the series are wonderful reads, with wonderful characters and ALL with terrifically written backstories if you haven't read them from the beginning.
The action in this book takes place at the Neewollah (Halloween) festival, taking place at the Bean Hive Coffee shop, which includes the presence of influencers as part of a competition for a lucrative tourism contract.
Competition is certainly brewing, and when one of the influencers turns up dead, Roxy is on the job to clear the name of her cafe manager and barista, who is the prime suspect, so consequently, the race is on to find out whodunit. The story is delivered in a smart and captivating way, with plenty of humor tossed in throughout the twists and turns that keep you guessing till the end. One other perk: RECIPES! A must-read for any cozy mystery lover - BEST PART: you can jump in at any place in this series and enjoy it without being lost!

Wow! What a fantastic addition to the Killer Coffee series. Honey Springs is decorated and totally into the Neewollah Festival which promises to be the best one yet. Roxy even developed a special coffee brew at her Bean Hive Coffee Shop. Even the Kentucky Tourism bureau developed a million-dollar Kentucky tourism contract competition for influencers. The three semi-finalists, Addison, Marlowe, and Tilden are in Honey Springs going from store to store, vendor to vendor to record their activities hoping to go on to the final in Louisville. Of the three here, one will be eliminated. But things didn't go as planned when one of the influencers, Marlowe is found dead and Roxy's shop manager, Birdie's scarf is found at the scene. Of course, Roxy with her incredible clue finding, intuitive schnauzer, , Pepper will investigate, despite being told by the Sheriff to stay out of it. No way will Roxy let Birdie become a prime suspect. With so many twists and turns, we are taken the ending, guessing all the way! Not only do I highly recommend this book, but I recommend the entire series. It is fantastic! I received an ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

Brewing Up Bones is the eighteenth cozy mystery in the Killer Coffee series. Its fall in Honey Springs, Kentucky and the town is hosting three influencers who are competing for a million-dollar tourism contract. When one of the influencers turns up dead Birdie, one of the baristas at The Bee Hive coffee shop, is the prime suspect. Unable to let her barista take the fall for something she’s sure she didn’t do, Roxy, coffee shop owner and town lawyer, gets involved to clear her friends name. Roxy will stop at nothing to uncover the truth even if it puts her in harms way.

I always love this series and am excited when a new installation comes out. This fall cozy mystery was a fun ride and full of cozy fall vibes. The characters in this town are inviting and likable, the setting has the perfect quaint small town vibes and Roxy is a great lead characters. I was pulled in from the beginning of this mystery and hooked as the mystery twisted and turned. This was another great cozy mystery in this series and I look forward to what comes next for Roxy.

Brewing Up Bones is another entertaining installment in Kappes' killer coffee cozy mystery series. Roxy and the Coffee Bean are excited about Honey Springs hosting a Neewollah Festival that contains social media influencers. The three social media influencers arrive to try and win a tourism contest. Things take a turn for the worse when one influencer turns up dead, and someone close to Roxy becomes a prime suspect. Roxy needs to solve this case and fast.

Kappes does a great job at setting up an entertaining read that is perfect for the Fall season. I always look forward to each installment in this series and this latest release definitely doesn't disappoint. It is always a treat to see my favorite secondary characters back to help as well. The book's mystery is well done full of enough twists and turns to keep the reader's interest. Overall Brewing Up Bones proved to be a great read that I would most definitely recommend.

Readers looking for a bookish fall escape need look no further than book 18 in this delightful series. New to the series? Don’t worry, you can jump in any time and think of the wonderful backlist reading you’ll have!

I do love being back in Honey Springs, Kentucky and wish so much I could visit Roxy’s coffeehouse. Picking up the latest installment is like visiting old friends. Roxy is such a wonderful character – determined and brave, ready to find the truth even if she is in danger! I love the side-characters and are unique and add so much to the story. There are lots of twists and turns in this mystery that will keep readers turning the pages quickly – I read this in a day.

I know I can be a broken record about Tonya’s writing, but I speak the truth – she has a gift for adding just the right cozy details to her mysteries that I feel transported into the story. I could easily visualize fall in Honey Springs, and felt so snug and enthralled as I read. Such a fun series!

If you're in the mood for a cozy mystery with small-town charm and a dash of Halloween spirit, Brewing Up Bones totally hits the spot. Tonya Kappes brings us back to Honey Springs, Kentucky, where coffee shop owner Roxy Bloom finds herself tangled in another murder mystery—this time during the town’s Neewollah Festival.
The victim? A social media influencer with a fear of water… found dead in the lake. Suspicious much? Things get even messier when Roxy’s eccentric barista Birdie becomes the prime suspect. But Roxy’s not about to let her friend take the fall, and with her trusty schnauzer Pepper by her side, she dives into the case.
The story is full of quirky characters, small-town gossip, and just enough twists to keep you guessing. It’s light, fun, and perfect for curling up with a cup of coffee. If you love cozy mysteries with a seasonal vibe, this one’s a treat.

It’s always a pleasure reading one of Tonya’s books, especially when it takes place during the fall. This book was so lovely and inviting. I loved the scenery in Honey Springs, Kentucky. There were autumn leaves, caramel apples, scarecrows, gourds with funny painted faces, and everything happening during my favorite time of year.

However, this IS a cozy mystery and there was a murder that took place. Three influencers are in town and unfortunately one was killed. The prime suspect is Birdie Bebe, Loretta’s granddaughter. The item that ties her to the murder is the simple placement of a unique scarf. What I don’t understand is why Roxy would think even for a moment that Birdie would do such a thing! But I suppose she’s got to follow the evidence.

So, sit down a spell and enjoy some autumn love.

Colorful leaves are not the only things in the air this fall in Honey Springs. Three young  social media “influencers” have blown into town as part of a competition to win a contract with the state of Kentucky. The town is bursting with excitement at the publicity their posts bring to the annual fall festival. But when one turns up floating in Honey Springs Lake, our intrepid sleuth, Roxy, and the Bean Hive folks have to unravel yet another mystery.

As usual, Ms. Kappes delivers a clever mystery that you don't want to put down.  An intriguing storyline, lots of southern charm, and a bit of sass from her delightful characters add up to a perfect choice to enjoy with a pumpkin spice latte by your side!

This is the 18th book in this unique cozy mystery series; I’ve read all the previous books, but this book could easily stand alone. Roxy is a former lawyer who now owns a coffee shop in Honey Springs, Kentucky. Fall is especially beautiful there and the town has a Neewollah festival every year. This year they’ve attracted 3 food influencers who have large followings; unfortunately they’re not very nice people, so when one is murdered, there are plenty of suspects, including one of Roxy’s sweet employees, Birdie. Everything is beautifully written and the mystery is intriguing and fun to help solve along with Roxy. I can definitely recommend this book and series; I was provided an ARC, which I appreciate, but these opinions are my own.

Oh if i had to read only one book these few days it would be this story it so fitting i really could imagine walking in Honey springs, admiring the shop windows and the festival....now yes there is a murder and yes that's no fun especially when the projectors are on the festival but you really feel immersed into the story and its setting.

I also liked to glimpse a bit of influencers job...it's not as popular in my region yet and it was interesting.

The investigation/mystery was really well written so you kept doubts about the culprit until the end with several twists to mislead you it was just perfect
And the little bit of romance between Roxy and Patrick as they celebrate their first anniversary was so touching, really it was moving. We can't forget about Pepper and the other pets, they keep making us smile

Definitively a must read and works fine as stand alone too!

Another great mystery in Honey Springs ! It's time for the Neewollah Festival and the next stop is in Honey Springs. The top three influencers are in town to win the ultimate sponsorship and lots of money. The three remaining influencers seem friendly enough but things turn south really quickly and one of them winds up dead. The worst part is the main suspect is Birdie. Roxy as the town lawyer must jump in and not only save the festival but save Birdie's life and reputation. The clues are piling up against Birdie and Roxy must do some quick thinking and sleuthing in order to save not only Birdie but the festival and the town.

With three of the competitors in town, Roxy Bloom’s part-time employee, teen, Birdie Bebe is thrilled. But when one of the influencers is found dead and Birdie becomes a suspect, Roxy, not only the owner of the Bean Hive coffee shop, but also the town attorney, so she will do all she can to clear Birdie’s name. With the festival winding down, hopefully she will have time to find the real killer before everyone leaves. This is my honest and voluntary review of an advanced copy of this book.

I love Honey Springs and the wonderful, quirky characters in this series. In the latest book several social media influencers are in town for the annual Neewollah Festival, including Bean Hive barista Birdie's favorite, Marlowe. The people of Honey Springs soon find out that the people that they follow on social media are not exactly as they portray themselves when you meet them in real life. When one of them is found murdered Roxy is on the case to clear someone that she cares about and save the reputation of Honey Springs.

This time Birdie is in hot water and Roxy will do all in her power to exonerate her. When some influencers come to Honey Springs, Birdie is so excited to meet them. One in particular is a favorite of Birdie. When the influencer snubs Birdie, she is humiliated and wants nothing more to do with her. When the influencer is found dead, Birdie is now a suspect. All Birdie wanted to do was to apologize to the influencer but says she never got the chance. As clues stack up against Birdie, Roxy is looking for clues. She knows Birdie would never hurt anyone. Can Roxy clear Birdie's name?

When one of them turns up dead, local barista and friend, Birdie Bebe, becomes the top suspect.

Roxy sets out to solve the crime and clear her friend. She’s sure Birdie is innocent, but there’s physical and video evidence to the contrary. Brewing Up Bones is a great addition to this series and it’s always so nice to see Roxy and her friends.

Honey Springs, Kentucky is home to the Neewollah Festival and this year 3 influencers are competing for a title. Honey Springs is the penultimate stop on their tour. The three remaining are Addison, Marlowe, and Tilden. Addison and Marlowe are besties and Tilden rules with his drone. As the trio cover a tour of Honey Springs, the Pawrade for the animal shelter, and assorted activities tension seems to build. When one is found dead on the beach, Roxy, owner of the Bee Hive Coffee Shop and town lawyer searches for the murderer. This may be my favorite of this series!

Welcome to the annual Neewollah Festival in the small town of Honey Springs, Kentucky. The people are friendly, full of hospitality, and spread plenty of gossip. A murder takes place within the town that just might ruin the festival's chances of being a success. Thank goodness for Honey Spring's amateur sleuth and former lawyer, Roxie Bloom. She is on the case. Helping her is her ever present champion, Pepper. Roxie's Aunt Maxi is always on hand to advise Roxie with bits of gossip. An enjoyable cozy mystery as the reader tries to decide the real culprit.
