Pain.Loss.Revenge.Are you ready to get to know the Dark Knight's twins? Will they be as dark as their father or will they follow after their mother? Are you ready for the final?*In Havoc Lays Chaos is the final book in the Memento Mori series.*
I loved this book and the whole Murdoch Mafia/Memento Mori series so SO much!! I’m so sad that it’s ended but what a journey it’s been! Thank you Samantha for bringing these books into my life ❤️
After Broken By Sin, I was scared to read this one because I was thinking of all the ways Sam could hurt my heart again 🫣 but this book hits different.
Chaos is ruthless, he is in so much pain and blinded by rage (understandably so) that he’s on a war path to get revenge on everyone who caused it. Nobody is safe, and Cassandra has no idea what’s coming for her. I loved Chaos’s character a lot, seeing his story through his eyes is something else 😍 it gets the feelings going! Cass and Chaos call to each other’s darkness, but she also brings so much light in to his world. I loved their chemistry, it’s undeniably hot 😉 just everything about them and their story was incredible.
And what’s this about a SPIN OFF?! I’m too excited, I will be waiting oh so patiently for it 🥰
I can’t believe that the Murdoch Mafia and Memento Mori series are finished. I’m heartbroken that there will be no more books. Samantha Barrett you are a goddess, with each book in these series you have gotten better and better, what is higher than amazing? Absolutely Fucking Brilliant!!!!! If you have just stumbled upon this book STOP right now and please start at the beginning with Played by the Bishop, you can thank me later. Seriously though thank you my beautiful Sammy for letting me be an ARC reader for you, from book one until now you have taken me on a journey, one I never wanted to end and one I will never forget. Easily a 10⭐️ read xxx
For me, this book didn't have quite the same intensity as the previous two books. It would be difficult to make this more emotional than the ending of Sin's story but hey did the author give it a damn good go. I totally felt for Chaos, including his feelings about London, because I felt them too. It was her fault. The relationship that Chaos developed with Lailani and Ryat felt genuine and seeing them respect each other felt like a great outcome. I loved the whole love/hate relationship with Cass and the ending was as sweet as it could be. And then the epilogue........oh my word, the excitement!
I thought the last book broke me. This one shredded my heart. Like the way Havoc felt crushed me. Now that being said Samantha did help my broken heart but let’s be real it will never be whole. This book was absolutely perfection and I can’t give it enough stars for it. As always you get pure angst, a bada$$ MMC with some anger issues. A FMC who has to break through a think wall of arrogance and then we get heat and $mut that is off the charts!!
Cannot believe this is the end of the Momento Mori series. I still went into this book fooling myself there would be a fourth.
Chaos is on a warpath for revenge and anybody that gets in his way better be prepared, until he wages war against Cassandra and he starts to doubt himself when their chemistry is off the charts and their darkness matches each other. She really sees him and it confuses Chaos as it's not part of his plan.
This was another fantastic edition to the Murdoch/Momento family and you do not understand the depth of my excitement with London's epilogue, She is definitely going to give them all a run for their money with the next spin off series. Well played Sam, Well played.
Epic conclusion to a fantastic trilogy. This picks up in the wake of the events in Broken by Sin with Chaos in a downward spiral hellbent on revenge and dealing with his grief along with a case of survivor’s guilt. I absolutely adore all the characters in this trilogy (especially the parents) so I am definitely going back and reading the OG series
I have said this before, if you are a fan of Amo Jones’s EKC Series then pick this up, you will not be disappointed at all
If you love mafia, dark romance, action, high emotions, and spice overload then you better grab this book ASAP!! Samantha Barrett brought it all in this book and then some.
Chaos is shrouded in darkness after the loss of his brother he's spiraling downhill with only revenge on those who took part in the demise of Havoc, even the family members of those involved are no longer safe. This character is complex with his wild unpredictable behavior that keeps you glued to what he will do next. Let's be real here he's not a lover but a dominator/a force to behold when love/hate blurs, and he can't seem to figure out why he's so drawn to his enemy's sister Cassandra. This only brings more intense steamy moments and a few little surprises along the way.
Cassandra has the unfortunate luck of being related to a corrupt brother whom she hasn't seen in several years. As a reporter, she has the curiosity to want the truth and also as a side job, she writes about the corruption of the underbelly of society to take each of them out. She lets people know who and what they have done. Now faced with her own nightmare of a situation with when her watcher aka Chaos comes calling for what her brother took from him. Chaos brings out another side of her that has been lying dormant for a while now. Chaos craves to dominate and Cass craves to submit and now they find themselves drawn together by hate that becomes confusing as each navigates their feelings. Cass makes the unfortunate mistake and goes on the run making Chaos track her every move but will he make good on ending her life or will he succumb to his feelings for her once he catches her?
Buckle up this last book will take you on a chaotic ride that leaves you with some closure. Also maybe even a little surprise as to what to expect to come next. Hands down this series has been one of my favorites to read and the twists have been unexpected and painful but worth it all by the end. Get ready to finally see how it all ends.
Following the major loss in Broken by Sin and the initial aftermath featured in that book, I was fully prepared for the emotional warfare in In Havoc Lays Chaos. Or at least I thought I was. All I can say is that the writing in this book was superb, and the way the author managed to portray all the mixed feelings that Chaos felt from the loss of his twin brother was exceptional. Everything he felt was written in such a way that his emotions almost felt palpable to the reader. There was guilt for not only what he had done to his brother's relationship but also for being the surviving brother. There was anger and hurt at having to live without the other half of himself and having to deal with those emotions as he not only tried to get vengeance on those who had killed his brother but also felt like his family would have preferred it if he had died instead. Hell-bent on getting his revenge while on a downward spiral with his moods; he acted recklessly, and some of his behaviours were questionable, especially when it came to his involvement with Cassandra. But with the two differing POVs, we got glimpses of vulnerabilities that Chaos tried to hide, and although it didn't excuse his actions, it helped to understand them. I think it also really helps that Cass is a bit dark too, and she enjoyed the degradation and roughness that Chaos brought to the table. She managed to calm and satiate him in a moment where his world was imploding, even if he wasn't able to realise it at first. There were some beautiful dialogues between Chaos and Lani, as well as with his father, and even brief moments with Rika and Sin that helped to open his eyes to the situation and also to help him begin to deal with his grief and feelings. Amongst all the emotion, the Memento Mori is still a kickass part of the Murdoch family, and there was still plenty of danger and drama, making this a jam-packed and gripping story. And the teaser at the end—well, I can't wait.
Havoc Lays with Chaos by Samantha Barrett is a seductive and suspenseful read that immerses you in a world of tension, mystery, and undeniable attraction. Barrett masterfully crafts a story where desire and danger coexist, keeping the reader hooked as the layers of intrigue unfold.
The quote, "Her curtains wide open, I can see how her black pencil skirt hugs her tiny frame, the white blouse she wears is untucked and her unruly strawberry-blonde locks are loose. Cascading down her back. I drop my gaze to the file in my lap. Cassandra Blake," immediately sets the tone for the book’s charged atmosphere. The vivid description of Cassandra Blake creates an alluring and magnetic presence, hinting at both her professional poise and the chaos she brings into the hero’s life. This observation introduces her as a complex figure—part mystery, part temptation.
Barrett expertly navigates the tension between the characters, building a slow-burn romance that simmers with unspoken desires and hidden agendas. Cassandra’s allure is undeniable, but it’s the depth of her character and the secrets she holds that keep the plot moving forward. The hero’s obsession with her is not just physical; it’s also a quest to understand the enigma that she represents.
The novel balances moments of intense attraction with suspenseful twists and turns, making the reader eager to uncover the truth behind the characters’ motivations. The pacing is tight, and the chemistry between Cassandra and the hero crackles with intensity, creating a dynamic that is both unpredictable and electrifying.
Overall, Havoc Lays with Chaos is a compelling mix of romance, mystery, and suspense. If you’re looking for a book that combines a steamy love story with a gripping plot, Samantha Barrett delivers once again with this thrilling and seductive tale.
In Havoc Lays Chaos by Samantha Barrett is the finale of the Memento Mori Series, and she finished it in grand style. Have your tissues ready, especially if you've been on the Murdoch family pilgrimage from the beginning. I began to cry reading the first few lines of the Prologue! Although there were plenty of snort laughs throughout, tears continued to fall during the reading of this book. Chaos is devastated by the loss of his twin brother Havoc and feels like he must pay penance for being the brother to survive. He has vowed revenge upon all those involved in his brother's death, and if that means hurting those related to the main players, that's a well won vengeance. Chaos loses himself in his dark world, even cutting himself off from those who love him most. Cassandra, a reporter known for going after the corruption of organized crime, finds herself unbeknownst to her in the sights of vengeance. He comes to her in the dark, hidden in the shadows, with promises of ultimate death. There is something about her "watcher" that excites her. She is drawn to the darkness. It intrigues her and turns her on. As their relationship develops, they discover that sparks fly when they are near each other. Once Cassandra finds out the true identity of the man who is beginning to ignite feelings she doesn't want to feel, she is truly afraid. In her work as a reporter, she has researched the mysterious Memento Mori and knows when Chaos promises death, he is not kidding. She is drawn into his retribution tour and sees his darkness first hand. She still wants him despite knowing her heart, and probably her body, will more than likely be broken The journey to the finale is full of anger, pain, violence, the ever desired vengeance and rage. Will Cassandra survive the journey, or will she be one of the victims? Will Chaos survive his own black thoughts and be able to put his pieces back together without his other half, or will they find a way to fix themselves and each other? This is a dark mafia romance. Please be aware that there are scenes and situations in this book that may be disturbing to some. Make sure to check the trigger warnings before diving in.
I was captivated before the end of the first chapter. It really has all your emotions tested.
The depth of pain and anger you feel with Chaos and his destructive behaviour seems to have no bounds.
It felt such heartbreak to see his life through his eyes. It was raw emotions and anger that kept him determined to make everyone suffer and die screaming that had anything to do with the death of his twin brother Havoc.
His pain was written with such raw agony. Many times I wanted and hoped Sin or Royal to breakthrough his self destructive behaviour.
Chaos shows little to no mercy in taking his revenge against anyone he believes was involved in the death of his twin Havoc.
Cassandra Blake a reporter has no idea of how her life is about to change, when she finds that she has a man watching her from the dark shadows. This becomes more intense when he steps out of the shadows and ignites a inner fear that excites her. What she has failed to see that she will never escape from Chaos.
Cassandra's character was written so well. Feisty and fearful with such an inner strength which is tested many times over.
I loved reading more about the rest of the Murdoch and Memento Mori families and can't wait to see where they continue from now. The woman are fierce strong loyal and determined to keep the families together, no matter what it takes or at what cost.
I stumbled upon this hidden gem only to realize there's an entire series. You can read this book as a standalone but you are going to end up like me wanting more and diving immediately into book one.
This book begins in the aftermath of Chaos's tragic loss, and he is propelled on a relentless quest for revenge. Chaos, channels his grief into a vengeful warpath, seeking to obliterate the lineage of his brother's killer. The intensity of Chaos's warpath takes an unexpected turn when he clashes with Cassandra. Their chemistry is incendiary. This is no ordinary love story; it's a dark exploration that demands attention to trigger warnings. There is passion entangled with revenge and hatred, offering a potent blend of intensity and emotions that I inhaled.
When I think of the Love/Hate trope Cassandra and Chaos is a candid example: The chemistry between Cassandra and Chaos is purely from hatred that is mutual. You need to brace yourself for their electrifying connection.
In Havoc lays Chaos by Samantha Barrett, the final book in the Memento Mori series, and boy, did she end it with a punch.
Chaos is a broken soul after losing his brother Havoc and is set on revenge no matter what the cost. In his war path, Chaos intends on destroying all lives that we're involved in the death of his brother, even if it means turning his back on his family.
Cassandra somehow ends up a target of Chaos wrath after her corrupt brother is a main cause of Havocs death. Being a reporter, Cassandra is going down a dark path, which will lead her straight into the arms of the Memento Mori.
The wild emotional ride this book leads you on is not for the faint-hearted . In all of Chaos hatered, you know there is a softer side just wanting to escape.
As with all of Samantha's books, the trigger list is huge, but tbh im all here for it. I can't wait to read the spin-off London has fallen.
I really enjoyed this one. It pulled me in from beginning to end and had my full attention the entire time. It is definitely on the darker and emotional side as Chaos is spiraling with the loss of his twin brother. He is out for revenge and pulling away from his family. This story is definitely on the darker side of things as well since he is out to cause pain for the pain he is feeling. There is torture and murder and Chaos enjoys the pain and death that he is inflicting and taking on his revenge. The story was well done and I enjoyed the way that things developed and shifted and changed throughout, especially with Chaos and Cass's relationship/interaction. Definitely a showcase for the thin line between love and hate. I really enjoyed this story and this series and am excited that we get another spin off series and can't wait for London's book!
In Havoc Lays Chaos centers on Chaos during his spiral after the death of his twin Havoc. Chaos couldn't save his brother in life, so he vows to avenge him in death. He goes UNHINGED and eradicates the bloodline responsible for Havoc's death. However, there is one loose end he can't bring himself to finish, Cassandra. The sister of the FBI agent that led to his brother's death has become an obsession. What started off as some light stalking just to scare her, quickly escalates to something much more. Chaos will have to decide if vengeance is worth losing the ones you love.
Chaos, oh my, that man's mouth is filthy in all the right ways. Not too fond of his pet name for Cassandra, "rotten apple", but oh well. He definitely needs to work on communicating his feelings instead of chaining women in his basement, though.
In Havoc lays Chaos By Samantha Barrett ⭐️5 🌶️3.5 💧2
As soon as this book landed in my kindle, I dropped what I was reading and started this! And I knew it was going to be worth it. Samantha does not disappoint! I was on edge the whole and not always in a bad way 😉 I’m glad Chaos got his HEA as I was really worried for a while there, that he wasn’t going to come back from losing Hav. Great way finish the series and then that little surprise twist at the end! Totally here for London! IYKYK
Wow!!! Just Wow!!! In Havoc Lays Chaos by Samantha Barrett is the completely enthralling, addictive story of Chaos and Cassandra. Their first meeting was not ideal…far from it. And, the plans that Chaos has for her…are frightening. Additionally, there is a huge underlying story here that is just as captivating as the antagonistic relationship between these two!
I was heartbroken about Havoc…but, Chaos is living and breathing him…sometimes much to his detriment. Only the drive for revenge keeps him afloat, and prevents him from sinking to the dark abyss. Cassandra is the innocent who is pulled into this web, for no other reason than her name. Tumultuous, shocking, danger-filled, deadly…and so much more!!! This story will embrace you and keep you glued!!! Highly, highly recommend!!!
Wow what a ride to finish the Memento Mori trilogy. Samantha Barrett really puts you through the ringer with all the anguish and pain bleeding through the pages and straight into your soul. I swear I was right there with Chaos not being able to cope with losing Havoc. I can't imagine losing your family like that and feeling it for a fictional character is straight up talent. On the other hand the scenes with both Chaos and Cass were absolutely fire. These two are definitely a match made in hell and just so perfect. I never wanted this story to end because of having to say goodbye to these beloved characters but learning there is a new series staring London is so very exciting. I love that I was given the opportunity to read the Memento Mori series and can't wait to see what these new characters have up their sleeves to be even more crazy than their predecessors.
First let me just start by saying this book was difficult to get through. Normally I can get done a book within a few hours but this one hit close to home. This book gave me goosebumps with every chapter I read. I was shocked that Chaos and Lani did not end up with eachother. I for sure thought those two would get together to honor his brother in some way. Then to throw a twist in with Cassandra, woah. Loving the fact that the author made it so Chaos and Cass were having twins, just seemed fitting with what happened to Havoc. And London, I swear she is the best. So blunt kinda of reminding me of Sin in a way. Words can't describe how good this series was. And I'm hoping with that little twist at the end we won't see the last of London
Chaos is reeling after the tragic loss of his twin. Fuelled by anger he seeks out to destroy the lineage of his brother’s killer.
This is no hearts and flowers book, so check the trigger warnings. Then dive into this dark world.
The chemistry between Cassandra and Chaos is “purely from hatred that is mutual. She despises me and I loathe her but the sex, it fn catastrophic.” Yep that sums it up pretty much!
The spicey stuff is off the charts and is sprinkled with revenge and hatred.
“You try to escape, I’ll rip these fn stitches open fn you against the wall”.
We do get our HEA with a nice little surprise.
The future promise of London’s story is very exciting!
Well done Sam I love this series
Possessive Forced proximity Dubious consent Multi pov ARC
I’m so sad that the Momento Mori series is over. I just absolutely loved it. I was sad when Murdoch Mafia series was over but I knew we would get more from Memento Mori series. Now I’m just devastated that they are both are done. I felt so bad for Chaos. He’s lost without Havoc. Chaos has closed himself from his family and is going after those that deserve his wrath. He’s on a warpath and those that are in his way better be careful. Cass sees the real him. It makes him rethink everything, but he is still unable to stop himself from exacting punishment to those that deserve it. Their relationship is explosive and dark. Just loved it. The next spin off will be with London. I so can’t wait for her. Her father Royal is going to get grey hair with all her shenanigans. Kind of like Royal and Bishop. This will be fun. Samantha Barrett is my queen. I love all of her books so far. But my absolute favorite is these two series. It’s a definite must read. Can’t wait for more from her. She is one of my absolute favorite author. I just love her.
Phenomenal This book had me completely mesmerised - I couldn’t put it down until the very last cliffhanger word. This book was written with pain and suffering as the undertone. Grief in this book was palpable. The family rain hell on all those that stood in their way and contributed to the horror ending of the last book. This book is full of anger, revenge, blood, murder, strategy and so much more. The steamy scenes were hot AF. The sexual tension and chemistry is off the charts in a strange way - sticking with the family history of interesting relationships. This book had me in tears, then grinning like crazy while also on the edge of my chair with utter suspense- phenomenal! The cliffhanger ending leaves you screaming for more. Exciting to see what mischief London for us next.
Well worth the loss of sleep because I couldn't put it down. I just knew I'd have to sleep before reviewing lol This was so good. I am a big fan of intersecting sieres. The OG Murdochs were ruthless and they produced the even more cunning Memento Mori. The banter throughout is perfect. I laughed, cheered on, and cried with them. Losing Havoc was something I hadn't expected. This was an emotional experience that I knew would be awesome. The push and pull between Chaos and his Rotten Apple is spicy! He really is more like his father than they expected! And that Epilogue gave me chills. I look forward to Londons story! Cudos to Samantha Barrett for her epic ability to make you feel like you're there witnessing all the ups and downs.
In Havoc Lays Chaos by Samantha Barrett was dark, brutal, and absolutely unforgettable. This book is pure chaos in the best possible way—packed with revenge, heartbreak, obsession, and nonstop intensity. Every chapter felt heavier than the last, and the emotions hit hard from beginning to end.
The storyline is twisted, raw, and unapologetic. The vengeance, the pain, the passion—it all blends together into a gripping finale that kept me glued to the pages. This is not a soft read, and that’s exactly what makes it so powerful.
If you love dark mafia romance with high stakes, unhinged energy, and what-the-hell-just-happened moments, this book delivers. A perfect, savage ending to the series. 🔥📖
After the mess book two left me in, I was really excited to jump right into this third and final book in this Murdoch Mafia spin off. And I was not disappointed. I love this entire world that Samantha has created. There’s so much depth and intensity to these characters.
I really felt for Chaos and what he was dealing with even while he was being a huge a**hole for a lot of his journey through this book. Understandable though. His connection with Cassandra was immediate whether he was willing to admit it or not. They both needed each other in different ways even though it definitely wasn’t what anyone would consider a traditional relationship.
I loved their journey and their growth. The healing amongst the family as a whole was everything too. Such a great series and a great book. I can’t wait to see where the next generational spin off will take us. I love the little glimpse of it that we get.
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Oh my god. How is it Samantha can absolutely break me in book 2, bandage me up a bit & put me back together in book 3. This might be hands down the best book I’ve read from Samantha yet. Chaos is really struggling with the guilt from his brothers death and isn’t sure how to help himself. His revenge plan brings Cass into his life who is family of an enemy. Not going to lie he legit treats her like trash but in the best way 🤷🏼♀️. In the end, this story reads a lot like Knights from the OGs but in its own way. I love that Samantha mimics the parents story line but makes it like something you’ve never read or thought of before. These two get their HEA and we get a slight glimpse into the next spin off. I love seeing these OGs and now their kids having kids.
Simply AMAZING! I loved this book and fell in love with Chaos. He’s still reeling from the death of his brother and revenge is all he can think of. In amongst that is both Cass and Lani. The way he treats and uses Cass is harsh but in a way it’s his way of showing love too. He didn’t realise what he had till it was gone and that’s when he was forced to face some home truths. I absolutely loved Chaos he was so glad he got all what he thoroughly deserved in the end. I do wish there was another book to follow on with what could only be described as Karma 😂. Another fantastic ok by Samantha, this girl knows how to write 😍
This is the third and final book in this phenomenal series, and what an impressive ending Chaos and Cass’s story is. Chaos is spiralling out of control with the loss of his brother, and he is fueled by revenge, but he is drawn to his enemy’s sister Cass. Cass sees through Chaos’ façade; and their relationship is explosive and dark. This is a well written action paced, emotional roller coaster, with pain, loss, angst, revenge, anguish, revelations, romance, and love, which leads to an entertaining, tragic, unpredictable, captivating, and steamy addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
This story was amazing. Chaos was set to destroy everyone that anything to do with his twins death. Then comes Cassidy. She toke him by surprise. He was set to leave his card on her. He played her but love/hate didn't let it happen as he planned. Chaos goes through hell. But Cass is there for him. He surprises himself with how things turn out. He is one you don't want after you. Royal and Sin have his back like always. It's sad to see this series end. I feel it is better then then the OG group. Enjoy the ride. It's worth it.
