“Whip smart and hilarious! Pucci is well on her way to literary domination.”—Abby Jimenez, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Just for the Summer.
USA Today bestselling author Trilina Pucci cranks up the heat in this sexy slasher filled with dark family secrets, classic horror tropes, and banter as sharp as a deranged killer’s knife.
Love is patient.
Love is kind.
Love will stab you from behind.
It’s Halloween night, and out-of-work writer Goldie Monroe’s trip to the drugstore scares up more than the fake blood she’s looking for. It leads to the man of her naughtiest dreams. And in spite of her costume, sparks fly from the moment they meet.
Noah Adler, aspiring sneaker designer, is impossibly gorgeous—like a tatted-up version of Goldie’s favorite blue-eyed vampire. He’s there for candy, but it’s Goldie he can’t resist. When she invites him to her sister’s F/X company bash, he’s all in without a second thought.
The pair’s flirty connection heats up fast, carrying them to electrifying new heights. But after Goldie discovers Noah is hiding a dark secret, it all starts to crumble. Looking for answers about her own past awakens new dangers, and when Goldie and Noah land at a slasher camp for adults, a deadly tragedy threatens to repeat itself. If they can survive this one killer night, they can definitely slay a happily ever after.
Trilina Pucci, a #1 Amazon and USA TODAY Bestselling Author, is a connoisseur of pop culture and SANPELLEGRINO, but her true passion lies in crafting tantalizing romantic novels that delve into the depths of desire, emotion, and even hearty belly laughs.
When she's not penning steamy love stories, you'll find her indulging in Netflix marathons with her husband, Anthony (Residence is a fan fave), and their three not-so-little ones.
4.5 / 5 Stars I never thought I’d read, let alone thoroughly enjoy, a slasher rom-com but we learn something new every day! I was laughing hysterically, swooning, and cowering in fear and I loved every second of it. We start with an epic meet cute in aisle 12 at a Walgreens on Halloween. Goldie is dressed in a blow-up T-rex costume. Noah looks like Damon from The Vampire Diaries. There’s an instant connection and instant chemistry (I mean, when you look like Ian Somerhalder, you could probably have chemistry with a wall but I digress). As we get to see Noah and Goldie fall in love, there are small moments that are just a bit off. Noah sees someone staring at them in a weird way. There is a robbery near Goldie’s house. The back door is open even though they both remember closing it. And those tiny moments start to add up to something bigger and scarier having to do with Noah’s past. Will their relationship survive? Will they?
You will probably like this book if you like: 🔪 Books where there is a killer on the loose 🖤 A+ chemistry, flirting, and banter 🔪 Laugh out loud jokes 🖤 The MMC is hiding secrets from his past 🔪 Twists 🖤 Flashbacks and present timeline
I really enjoyed the rom-com portion of the book. The spice was spicing. The banter was bantering. The love was loving. You get to see their relationship progress over the course of months so no insta-love here which was lovely. They both had complicated pasts that added some depth to the story in a nice way but didn’t make anything overly complicated. It was the perfect parallel storyline to the thriller portion.
And can we get a round of applause for the side characters? Evie, Goldie’s sister, and Chase, Noah’s best friend, are the perfect comic relief especially in between the tense slasher/thriller parts. Chase is the perfect, dumb, dude bro. Evie is the perfect strong, no nonsense, independent sister. Together, they are even more weird and perfect.
The slasher portion of the book was well written because I was scared shitless during it. It had a very 90s slasher film vibe, so think Jason Voorhees or Scream. My tolerance for scary stuff is very low, so it might be less scary to others, but maybe just read this book during daylight hours with people around. The scenes where Goldie was alone especially made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. The pacing did get a bit slow towards the last third of the book, but there were a few really good twists that I loved.
If you want to laugh and scream, you should check out this book. And make sure to check the content warnings when they are added upon publishing.
Thank you Montlake and NetGalley for providing the eARC! All opinions are my own. Publication Date: October 14, 2025 ___________________________ Pre-Read Thoughts: I don't know when spooky session officially begins and I don't entirely care because I am down for a murdery, rom-com with the tag line: "Love is patient. Love is kind. Love will stab you from behind." 🔪🔪🔪
In aisle 12 of Walgreens, Goldie Monroe and Noah Adler share a meet-cute over the tubes of fake blood. In a bold move, she invites him to a Halloween party later that night.
One Killer Night is a departure from what we’ve seen in the last few releases. But it harkens to her earlier works with a depth to the characters and storyline, alike. Don’t fret, in her trademark trifecta, Trilina delivers a laugh-out-loud romance with steam. Plus, she upped the ante with a little blood and murder.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Did I just meet my new book boyfriend?!? Cause I am obsessed with Noah 😍 This was quite literally the perfect Rom-Com meets 90s scary movie and the perfect Halloween read!!! I had such a good time reading this one. This was my first by Trilina Pucci and it definitely won't be my last!
・❥・ ❝It’s a perfect day. Me and my girl, doing nothing.❞ ・
✧˚ · . 5 stars is a feeling and a vibe and this one had the best slasher/dark romcom vibe! I haven’t had that much fun reading a book in A WHILE. 🤭😭 I picked this up because I have the arc for the second book and, although they follow different couples, the story continues so it’s best to read them together and in order! ♡

👻 ⌗ what I loved
・❥・ ❝We’re gonna die. And the headline will be, ‘A bunch of dumbass bitches got on a bus.’❞ ・
First of all, the ATMOSPHERE was perfect for this type of story. This whole book has a spooky/creepy vibe throughout even during the more romcom moments. I loved the eeriness of it! ✨ The creepier/slasher scenes were iconic. The camp scenes were so uncomfortable omg I was at the edge of my seat throughout and screaming at the characters to have self-preservation skills. 😩 There’s a mystery from the start of the story and I thought that it contributed to the overall vibe. I also thought it was done well! I didn’t know who to trust for a whileee. 🫣
The characters were great and so so funny!! To echo what I said at the beginning of this review, it’s been a hot minute since I had so much fun reading a book like this one! The characters are a big reason why 🌸. Noah is *chef’s kiss* in more than one way uhm… yeah 🫣 Goldie was wonderful and so relatable, Evie was so entertaining and Chase was hilarious! And all of them together were the perfect group of characters (and a wonderful team). Cannot get over the Notting Hill reference, Chase is one of the highlights of this story seriously 😂 . I can’t WAIT to read his and Evie’s storyyy. 👀
The sisterhood is iconic, the bromance is iconic. Honestly this is a book for a good timeeee. But don’t make my mistake and read it with the lights on at night instead of with them off 🫣
👻 ⌗ what didn’t work for me
Honestly, I have no issues with this which is a rare phenomenon 😂! There was a moment where I felt like the story slowed down a bit but I think it was mainly my anticipating the reveal(s) that made me want to rush the unfolding of events. 😅
👻 ⌗ audiobook review
I read this on KU and the audiobook comes free with the ebook if you have the subscription! Let me tell you, immersive-reading this was the best choice! Samantha Brentmoor I am always familiar with what you can do and you’re a fave of mine! Grayson Owens I wasn’t familiar with your game and omg, the way you’re a new faveee! Both of them do such a wonderful job!! The perfect pair for this audiobook 🥹🌸 give them all the awards ♡

This was my first book by this author (even though I’ve seen the books around) and I’m so glad to report it won’t be my last for sure! Jumping straight to the sequel as we speak 👀🌸💕
“Welcome to Camp Weonoke, Goldie. I hope it’s a weekend you’ll never forget.”
Finished this on Halloween night and I couldn’t have picked a more perfect read 🎃 It’s eerie, addictive, romantic—and genuinely chilling. Murder, secrets, razor-sharp banter, and a love story that somehow blooms in the middle of chaos. I was hooked.

✩ SPOILERS AHEAD ✩
✦ The Setup: It’s Halloween night, and out-of-work writer Goldie Monroe is just trying to grab fake blood from the drugstore when she runs into Noah Adler—a gorgeous, tattooed stranger who looks like her favorite blue-eyed vampire. Sparks fly instantly, and when Goldie invites him to her sister’s F/X company party, he’s all in. But what starts as a flirty, electric connection quickly spirals into something darker. As the night unfolds, secrets surface, and Goldie discovers Noah may be hiding more than just a killer smile. With slasher vibes, family drama, and a romance that burns hot and fast, this is one Halloween she’ll never forget
✦ The Cast: • Goldie Monroe — fiercely loyal, quietly brilliant, always protecting others at her own expense. • Evie Monroe — bold, artistic, and emotionally raw; I rooted for her every second. • Noah Adler — soft-spoken, mysterious, and radiating “I’d kill for you” energy. • Chase — charming, chaotic, and slightly unhinged in the best way (Evie + Chase NEED their own book). • Billy — nightmare fuel. Unsettling and unforgettable.
✦ Quotes I’m Still Screaming About: “You know in books when they say the air crackles between two characters? Well, we’re a fucking bowl of cereal. Snap, crackle, and poppin’ everywhere and all over the place.”
“I don’t know what most guys like; all I know is what she’s got is what I want.”
“She rolls her eyes and tilts her head, hyperfocused on what she’s doing — which is coloring in my tattoos. It’s her favorite thing to do … get me shirtless and decorate me even more.”
“Imagination is sustenance for dreamers and fools. Which one we are depends on our choice.”
“If this were a movie, you’d be the hero.” “Oh yeah? I’d much rather be your husband.” “Deal.”
✦ What I Loved: • The camp setting — eerie, immersive, and cinematic. • The pacing — fast, sharp, and full of tension. • The twist. The backstory. THE FAMILY SECRETS?! • Chase + Evie — I will not rest until they get their own book. • That cliffhanger. I’m still reeling.
✦ TL;DR: Murder. Secrets. Romance. Camp horror perfection. I devoured it.
✦ Playlist: › “bury a friend” – Billie Eilish › “House of the Rising Sun” – Lauren O’Connell › “Control” – Halsey › “The Lakes” – Taylor Swift (haunting version) › “Ava Adore” – The Smashing Pumpkins › “Running with the Wolves” – AURORA › “Youth” – Daughter › “The Killing Moon” – Echo & the Bunnymen
✩ Thank you to Goodreads and Trilina Pucci for the giveaway copy — this was such a ride and I cannot wait to see what’s next.
Story 3.5 stars. Narration 5 stars I’m all over the place about how I feel about this book. It’s an almost but not insta-love romance and actually that part I really enjoyed. The thriller part happens just a bit in the first half of the book only to come back with a vengeance in the last 30-40% not sure. I wobbled back and forth between 3 stars or 4, but decided 4 because I liked the romance so much. And really it’s 3.5 stars.
The ending threw me for a loop and cliffhangers are not a favorite for me. I knew something was up but not how it was going to end. It was only then that I saw there was a book 2. The main characters are not the same, but are two important side characters from this book. Important, but not necessarily my favorites so I’m not sure if I will be continuing. In addition, there were twists(at least one) and that’s always welcome in a book with this much suspense. I will say that I liked the two main characters although each had their moments when I wanted to yell at them-especially the heroine. As you can tell, I’m not recapping what happens this time. It’s there on the GoodReads page if you want. There’s just too much to recap and I don’t want any spoilers coming from me.
Recommended to adult romance and horror fans. Extra spicy-which I fast forwarded through-not all, but most. Narration was very well done.
This was one killer book! Fast, nostalgic, and stuffed with enough pop-culture and horror callbacks to make my little spooky heart vibrate. I’ll admit, around the halfway mark I thought the pacing was starting to drag me into the woods… but then the last 25% came in like a full-blown slasher finale. Twists flying, stakes rising, pages flipping, me sweating like I’m being chased by a clown in a corn maze.
The side characters were ridiculously well developed, the ending slapped, and finding out Evie and Chase are getting their own book had me feral. Any MMC described as looking like Damon Salvatore is an automatic win in my world. Honestly? A bloody good time and happy I grabbed it blindly because I liked the cover!
If you love all 90’s horror films, then you’ll love this book. Now I’m not a fan of scary movies, knowing this I still wanted to read this book. 🤣 Was I scared shitless? Yup! But, I did really enjoy it. 😍
It was funny, scary, spicy, and very made me a little teary. 🥺 if you’re looking for a good book with Halloween vibes, then let this be your next read. 🖤
Love is patient. Well, I am NOT. At least not to the extent of reading 60% without anything happening, no real buildup or tension for my taste. DNF for now, not sure if I will return to it. Maybe. In case you are looking for a semi spicy and very cheesy romcom, it surely delivers on that. And the banter was actually funny. The slasher vibes tho, not really around. I read that they come in at what 80% is that a joke? Nah. Also loved Chase, he's the better MMC I don't care.
༄˖°.🔪🎃.ೃ࿔*:・ Oooooookay. As someone who is extremely sensitive to scary things, this book gave me a couple of heart-racing dreams. Should I have read the description more carefully before committing to a 10-hour audiobook? Probably. Do I regret it? Surprisingly… no.
Because somehow, against all odds, I loved a slasher rom-com. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
📖₊˚.🎧 The Setup: Meet Cute in Aisle 12
We start with an iconic Halloween meet-cute at a Walgreens. Goldie Monroe is an out-of-work writer dressed in a blow-up T-rex costume. Noah Adler is impossibly hot — envision a tattooed, blue-eyed Damon straight out of The Vampire Diaries. Instant chemistry. Instant banter. Instant “oh no, I’m invested.”
One invite to Goldie’s sister’s F/X company Halloween party later, and the sparks are flying. The romance kicks off fast — but not shallow — and that balance honestly surprised me.
⊹ ࣪ ˖🫂🤞🏻🫀˖⊹ ࣪ Goldie & Noah
Goldie is funny, anxious, self-aware, and easy to root for. Noah is charming, flirty, and always checking over his shoulder. As their relationship develops over months, small unsettling moments start piling up:
someone watching them a little too closely from the alley
a robbery near Goldie’s house
doors left open when they swear they locked them
It’s subtle at first. Then it’s not.
And the tension? Delicious. (And terrifying, I'm a baby)
🩸 ๋࣭ ꩜🔪ִ ࣪ Rom-Com Meets Slasher
The rom-com side of this book? Excellent.
The spice was spicing. The banter was bantering. The flirting was flirty-ing.
Their relationship gets real emotional depth thanks to both characters’ complicated pasts — enough to add weight without bogging the story down.
Then there’s the slasher half… which genuinely scared the hell out of me.
Think heavy ’90s slasher vibes — Scream, Friday the 13th, camp horror energy. The scenes where Goldie is alone had me listening with all the lights on and all the doors locked. My tolerance for scary stuff is LOW, so others might handle it better — but if you're in the same boat as I, I highly recommend reading/listening during daylight hours with other humans nearby.
˙✧˖°🍿 ༘ ⋆。˚ Side Characters
Can we please talk about Evie and Chase?
Evie (Goldie’s younger sister): strong, no-nonsense, protective, and hilarious.
Chase (Noah’s best friend): amazing chef and the perfect dumb dude-bro comic relief.
Individually? Great. Together? Absolute hilarious chaos. They were a much-needed breather between tense moments and added so much heart and humor.
⊹ ࣪ ˖⏱ Pacing & Twists
The pacing does slow slightly towards the end, but the payoff was worth it. The twists genuinely caught me off guard, and the final reveals had me fully shook. I won’t spoil anything, but I did not see it going where it went.
I also really appreciated that even with all the interconnected secrets and slasher chaos, the book consistently carved out space to focus on Goldie and Noah as a couple — not just victims or suspects.
⋆。°·☁︎ Final Thoughts
If you like your romance: funny, flirty, SPICY
AND
suspenseful, twisty, just scary enough to make your heart race
…then One Killer Night is absolutely worth picking up.
I laughed, swooned, flinched, and screamed — sometimes all at once. Just make sure to check the content warnings before diving in.
Tropes / What to Expect
🔪 Slasher Romance 🎃 Halloween Setting 🖤 Dark Family Secrets 💬 Sharp Banter 🔥 High Chemistry 🕰️ Past & Present Timelines 🎭 Twists & Red Herrings 🫂 Found Family
Suspense, twists, love, and spice. What more could a great story need? I certainly couldn’t tell you because I ate this up! I devoured it, and wanted a big heaping pile of seconds! That ending though? That was just cruel! I wanted to go to the next one that won’t come out for a while.
Their relationship was a big ol’ chefs kiss. The twists and suspense just made it even better. Also that twist? Didn’t see that coming. I mean I had an inkling, but then I was still shocked. It was a great book to end the year 2025 with. Perfect 5 ⭐️read to wrap up the year.
Romance lovers: you need to read this one. It pulled me out of a reading slump and if I could give it 17 stars I would.
Why? -The book begins with a solid hook, and then sits you down with a hilarious chapter to start out with. -The main character is my type (tattoos, strong, sexy, hello yes please) -Suspense -The tension exists, and it’s the PERFECT amount, and then the actual spicy scenes are some of the best I’ve ever read. Might be the best spice I’ve ever read. -The cover is amazing -The writing style is wonderful -It’s easier to follow and read because the execution is done so well of the storytelling aspect, that you can enjoy this book without keeping track of 15+ character names, their motives, 16+ conflicts, etc. This book has the perfect amount of characters, the perfect pacing, and was a phenomenal read. -I need it on my shelf immediately.
This book is amazing and I’ll be recommending it to my fellow romance and spice lovers for a while, because it’s hard to find really good romance reads and I think I am picky. I LOVED this one.
Thank you NetGalley for the free eARC! I am leaving this honest feedback voluntarily.

The new queen of banter and best meet cute. What a fun ride of a read. Rom-com-thriller. What more could a reader ask for? I couldn’t put it down. I haven’t read a book in a while that has me up all night because I just loved it. Pro: the campy thriller vibes. The connection between the mcs, the pure entertainment of the entire story Cons: I wish it was twice as long. Ty to the author for the advanced copy. Everyone is going to love it. And I’m excited for the audio for my reread.

About the book 👇🏽

🔪 My thoughts:
Omg omg omg. The way I flipped out when I got approved for this was unreal. There’s no shame over here though. I could gush over Trilina as a person but dammit the way she wrote a steamy romantic thriller. It’s like she’s cupid with an arrow straight to my HEART. And if you haven’t guessed it… this was KILLER. She KILLED IT. Infinite stabby and steamy stars from me. And per usual the narrators really did this story justice. I mean…the way it got hot over here in 35 degree morning weather… you can pick up what I’m putting down right? right. I know this goes without saying but this was unputdownable… I legitimately had to request the audiobook so that I didn’t have to stop once I started. It’s twisty, drool worthy, and one million percent the sexy slasher you need in your life this Halloween. Hands down my favorite Pucci book, One Killer Night is out 10/14/25!
I have never read a rom com slasher and this is so perfect for Halloween vibes. The book started with a great meet cute and Goldie and Noah instantly connect.
This story was way too insta love for me. Goldie and Noah are great together and their banter is so good. With Pucci's other books, they are steamy. This one steam level is pretty low.
The supporting characters with Goldie's sister and Noah's best friend was so good. I need their story.
The slasher vibes was so good and it made me feel like I was in a 90s slasher movie in the last 75%.
I enjoy a genre defying book from time to time but…it wasn’t my favorite here. I also found a lot of elements in it to warrant a trigger warning list so, perhaps if you’re concerned about any elements possibly popping up, message someone who has read it to ask if it’s in there.
The insta love + thriller elements didn’t flow for me, but I can see this book appealing to others.
-thriller romcom -90s slasher vibes -tattooed mmc -touch her & die -AMAZING banter -family secrets
the twists & turns throughout this book were amazing!! & the written imagery literally had me feeling like i was *IN* a fucking movie!! i felt the 90s filter literally come over my entire mind!! the banter was so witty & hilariously unique to each of our characters too i just enjoyed them so much!! & my heart hurt for noah & goldie during our little hiatus but wowww was it just so beautiful for them to come back together to kill some murderer!! hahaha can't wait for chase & evie!!!
This is like three quarters steamy contemporary romance, and one quarter teen slasher flick.
Let's start with the positives.
The banter is great - between the couple, AND between Chase and Evie (I'm going to need their book ASAP). Goldie and Noah's meeting was straight out of a Navessa Allen book. And the first third of the book - I was thinking gee, Noah is giving off some serious Josh vibes. The two could have been brothers.
Chase carried this book on his back as the comic relief. Not only is he hilarious, he's also loyal - Noah's ride or die to the very end.
The spice. Woo boy - top tier.
The plot... Listen.
The first third of this story was LITERALLY the best part of the whole thing. It's hilarious and fast paced and hot as hell. It's everything you'd expect in one of these sorts of books.
But then, instead of getting scary or dangerous or whatever ... the main couple just...keeps being in a relationship. For a whole year. Like this is a contemporary romance.
It takes over half the book to really begin to see the darker side of this story outside of a few blips of scary encounters where it becomes apparent that Noah's got some skeletons in his closet somewhere. Which is fine, we like a mysterious MMC.
We also get an alternate timeline of some girl at a camp and at first that felt out of place and confusing (you really just have to go with it until things start to tall into place about halfway through.)
The problem for me is that this is like the third book this month where the book's blurb promises something and the book itself doesn't quite deliver. It's a slow burn when it comes to the darker stuff.
And when I say slow-burn....good god gravy, I mean Slooooooooooooow burnnnnnnnnnnnn. The camp doesn't even come into play in the present storyline until 70% of the story. And even then, nothing really happens at it until 90% of the way through.
After the break up that happens about 2/3s of the way through this book, we have over a hundred pages of pointless wallowing and unimportant filler stuff to read through before ANYTHING happens.
And then there are the plot holes and unfinished plotlines that still don't make any sense. What happened with the investigator dude? We hear nothing about the investigation of his death. And what about the guy killed on the stage? Rufus? Remus? Whatever the hell his name was. Who was he? What purpose did his death serve? Who is Goldie's mother and what happened to her? That ending? Why was that even necessary?
That's why this book isn't getting a higher rating from me. I HATE third act break ups that take over 100 pages to resolve. I hate the misery and the wallowing, but I hate filler crap more. We could have cut half of the stuff that happens between the breakup and the action at the end and it wouldn't have changed a single thing - except to make the book better.
💬 Holy shit this was so good. It's SOOOO funny, like their sarcastic, snarky banter is my love language. It's basically how my husband and I talk to each other.
The romance was incredibly cute, adorable and swoony. I mean, super swoony. I love Goldie and Noah.🥹 I couldn't stop smiling.
I also can't say enough good things about the suspense part of the plot. It pulled me in and slowly built until it had me on the edge of my seat. I guessed some of it but definitely didn't expect the twist, and there were parts that made me want to throw my phone in frustration.
For the narrators, week I've already said several times how much I love Samantha Brentmoor, she can literally do no wrong, but the MMC , Grayson Owens did an incredible job too. I lived that it was a duet, and like I said I had some pretty visceral reactions to the story so I'm not kidding when I say they did a 5⭐ job. My only complaint is I wish there was more distinction sometimes between the flashbacks and other people's POV. This is probably only because it's an audiobook though.
As for the adoption trigger, it's a major plot point, so readers who are sensitive to that should be aware, and I hope that a sensitivity reader was used if the author is not an adoptee.
The narration of this book was so amazing!! Samantha Brentmoor & Grayson Owens were perfect!!
I absolutely ate this book up!! Immediately hooked and I didn’t want to put it down! Dark romance with suspense/ thriller & 90s slasher vibes, wrapped in sweetness! Yes please! A perfect read for spooky season! This was full of banter, spice, and absolute suspense!! The twist had my jaw on the floor!!
Goldie was such a fantastic FMC & I was obsessed with Noah!! This whole book took me for a wild ride & I was here for every single second. If you haven’t read a book by Trilina Pucci, do it. Just do it asap!! Absolutely love her writing!!
The ending of this one was another wild ride & I cannot wait for more from this!!!
Thank you Trilina Pucci & NetGalley for this early ALC!!
Okay I was invested from start to finish. Trilina really did that with this book. I did not guess anything that happened in this book and she really got me good!!!! The audio is amazing, the book is amazing! 10/10 recommend.
Many pop culture references which I loved. The twist at the end was amazing! A little slow in my opinion at first. Started to love Evie & Chase way more. So glad the next book is them. Cute little comedic horror love story book.
