A Conflict of Interest is a compelling, chemistry-filled romance that had me hooked from the start. The forbidden dynamic between Ana, a driven lawyer on the brink of a career-defining case, and Rachel, a dedicated doctor who unexpectedly ends up as a key figure in Ana’s trial, made for a tense and addictive setup. Their connection sizzles from the beginning, and the looming risk of discovery adds delicious tension to every interaction.

I really enjoyed the balance between professional stakes and emotional vulnerability, and the way their relationship slowly deepened despite the ethical minefield they were navigating. The short chapters and engaging writing style made it easy to fly through, and I appreciated the inclusion of family dynamics, particularly Rachel’s, which added warmth and depth.

That said, the final-act drama felt a bit rushed - after such a strong build-up, the resolution came together too neatly for the high stakes involved. I also would’ve loved more development in their initial meeting, to better sell the instant spark, and a bit more clarity around Ana’s decision-making toward the end.

Still, this was an enjoyable romance with real heart and a great blend of tension and tenderness. Definitely worth picking up if you love your romance with a dash of drama and forbidden attraction.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Bold Strokes Books for a copy of this novel. ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.

This book has an insanely electrifying energy!!! Just the combination: a cardio surgeon and a lawyer??? I mean, hello??? Phew, I knew from the blurb that this book was going to be good, but this good?

Ana has an important trial ahead of her. One she's been working on for years. But there has to be a bit of fun, right? She meets Rachel, a doctor who is married to her job, in a bar. Sparks fly and they end up in bed together. But when Rachel suddenly turns up at Ana's office a few days later and it turns out that Rachel is one of the doctors she has to interrogate, chaos breaks out in the life of the otherwise determined lawyer.

I devoured this book. The chemistry was amazing!!! The fact that their relationship was forbidden made the tension very high. And on top of that, a secret that wasn't revealed for a long time kept me reading. The danger of everything being exposed hung over them like the sword of Damocles. On the one hand, of course, there was this incredible attraction and on the other this vulnerability. Simply a great combination! The way they managed to communicate with each other and forget everything was really beautiful.

I’d love to give this book 5 stars, but the drama in the last act... well, I found it too easily resolved. I mean, the tension grew and grew, then the drama came and a few pages later it was already over. That was partly incomprehensible to me, as there was a lot at stake, at least for Ana.

Nevertheless, it was a great, beautiful book with hot, spicy scenes that I really enjoyed! This will definitely not be the last book I read by Morgan Adams.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me an ARC.

When your one-night stand turns out to be the surgeon that you subpoenaed for a malpractice lawsuit.

Ana, an unappreciated lawyer, has been passed up for promotion to her male colleagues yet again. A malpractice lawsuit win could be what she needs to finally get the promotion she’s worked so hard for. Rachel, a cardiac surgeon who goes above and beyond for her patients, is subpoenaed to testify in a malpractice lawsuit. Arriving at the law firm for her deposition, Rachel discovers that the lawyer for the family who filed the lawsuit is Ana Mendez. As in Ana, her one-night stand.

I was excited to get my hands on this one! I loved that Ana and Rachel were so different from each other in personalities, looks, backgrounds, and religions. The differences made them unique and interesting to me. The banter was well-written, and I loved how feisty they were towards each other in the beginning. Was the dirty talk unexpected? Very much so. I was not prepared for that or for how hot things had gotten. And while I did enjoy the spice, I would’ve liked for there to have been more communication about the conflict too. The references to The Golden Girls and The Sims? Oh, I totally geeked out over that! Overall, it was a good sapphic romance that I’m sure others will enjoy.

I’d like to thank NetGalley and Bold Strokes Books for giving me an arc. This is my voluntary review.

3.5 ⭐️
This book was easy to read, with short chapters that made me read one after another. I liked both characters, their chemistry, and all the scenes that put them on the same path together. I was rooting for them and found them cute together. I also liked their respective families, especially Rachel's. I liked to learn a bit about Jewish culture. There were just some details that were off to me. I wish the scene where they meet was longer, showing how easily and strongly their connection was different from the start. We barely saw them that first night. Regarding the case, I was logically thinking: why would they procrastinate Rachel's hearing when it's the thing preventing them from going further? I was like, "Just get it on with it and be professional!" They just got together and put their heads in the sand.Sure, it adds tension, but for a big-shot and ambitious lawyer, it felt out of character. The career change at the end was a bit abrupt and could have been more built up. But I think it's the mid-length format that frustrated me a bit.

Overall, it was a sweet story with a balanced dose of tension.

4.5 ⭐️ This was a story about attorney Ana Mendez who lives in NYC. She’s from a Cuban family and grew up in Miami. She’s been working for the same firm for 8 years and pushing herself hard to become a junior partner. Her big case is a lawsuit over a medical malpractice case.

Rachel Cohen is thoracic surgeon, she’s grown up in NYC and comes from a Jewish family. One Friday night she goes to a local gay bar and meets up with Ana. The go to Ana’s apartment and have a hot night of sex. Rachel leaves at 4:00 am and questions what in the heck did she just do?

The next day they find out that Rachel has to submit to a deposition on the malpractice case. She was an intern at the time and observed the surgery.

This story has been told multiple times with a predictable storyline and ending BUT- in this book it felt fresh and new due to the great job that Morgan Adams did in writing it. Both characters were well developed and very likable. The dialogue was fun and made me laugh out loud. Both women’s family’s and best friends enhanced the story. One thing I like.d was that they were both strong women and took turns being the lead/dominate person. They were totals equals. I liked that a lot. I look forward to reading more books of Adams’ and I’ll look for her previous one.

Thanks to Net Galley for the chance to read and review this ARC.

Really enjoyable. Sweet, sexy, and hot. And at least one hot lawyer in skirts (yum). A Conflict of Interest is very close to being as good as its sister book in this series, also set in the same law firm, Bryon and Browning in NYC.

The MC this time is the delectable Ana Mendez, who we met in View from the Top (aka book 1) and who, I always thought, got a bit of a raw deal. So I was doubly pleased to see her get her story this time around. And she’s super-hot, I think you’ll agree. Certainly Dr. Rachel Cohen does, despite being the conflict of interest of the title. But attraction and sparks cannot be denied as the two women go from enemies to lovers, via plenty of false assumptions about each other and thus discovery of the real woman inside, revealing both to be people we’d all like to hang out with, I suspect.

Happily, I enjoyed spending time with them across every page.

Not too long, not too demanding, and pays back in spades. Morgan Adams is definitely one to watch.

Thanks to the author and publisher, BSB, and to NetGalley for the chance to be, not *deposed*, but very *disposed* towards this ARC, especially as I’d somehow missed it and requested it late.

This book was good.

The writing was engaging, and the pacing of the whole book was well executed. I loved the short chapters.

Rachel and Ana's relationship was fun to read about. They are complete opposites, and I enjoyed their playful banter. Ana is a sweet yet determined character with strong confidence, while Rachel is a genuine sweetheart who always tries to help others because of her hidden past.

I also liked learning more about Jewish culture, it was a nice addition to the story. The only reason this wasn’t a 5 star read for me was the occasional info dumping, which I felt wasn’t always necessary.

Overall, if you're looking for a spicy romance between a doctor and a lawyer with great writing, you might enjoy this one as much as I did.

(4.5 Stars) Ana Mendez is of Cuban descent growing up in Florida. Now she is a senior associate at a NYC law firm. A new position is opening up that she has earned and her current Mal-practice case may be her way to be sure she gets the spot. Rachel Cohen is a successful cardiac surgeon. She is Jewish and loves her family and culture. As happens in stories Ana and Rachel hook up after meeting in a NYC bar. They know nothing about each other beyond first names. Ana is stunned when she realizes Rachel is the last deposition she needs to interview for her big case.

I love that these two can’t get over their attraction but they slow things down. They spend time texting and with phone calls learning about each other. There is time for dates while the tension builds between them. I felt I got to know both very well over the course of the story. I am currently on vacation, in a condo, in the Rocky Mountains and couldn’t venture out to enjoy the beauty until I finished this book. The only thing that was disappointing was how simply the big conflict gets resolved. But I love how the story ends. It was very enjoyable. Thank you to NetGalley and Bold Strokes Books for the eARC and I am leaving an honest review.

Pretty typical story where the two main characters casually meet and have a one-night stand, completely unaware they'll have to cross paths again later in a professional setting—in this case, as a lawyer and a witness.

Dr. Rachel Cohen is going to have to testify in a medical malpractice case. The plaintiff's attorney is Ana Mendez. Ana, a lawyer hoping this medical case will propel her to a promotion at her firm, will face some existential doubts. She doesn't want to harm Rachel, but she also doesn't want to jeopardize her professional aspirations. Rachel, for her part, also has doubts about what she should testify to and whether she can trust Ana.

Without being overly dramatic or extreme, the story unfolds gradually as the two women confront their doubts and conflicts. It was an entertaining read that I really enjoyed.

Slightly on the back foot at the start, not because the main has been overlooked for promotion in favour of pale less able males, but because she made advances to her mentor..... the fact the mentee went for one of the managing partners just screams toxic workplace. However I am only 1% in and will reserve judgement.
I'm also not usually a fan of immediate I intimacy but obviously if it's one night to forever that's how it starts it takes a good writer to involve the first intimate scene.
30% in and I'm in, but the mains although coincidentally meeting haven't got together and there is a bit of me distracted by the insurmountable barrier they face.... and I just want to see how they surmount it!
Half way through, the mains are getting on, we see them getting on but I am still impatient to see how the barrier is overcome, especially as there has been hints, there will be issues.
My problem with this book was that I was more interested in the barrier to the romance, than the romance. Plenty of varied intimate scenes. The barrier unfortunately wasn’t really brought in to the light till pretty close to the end and it was kind of easily dealt with. I’ve rounded up to 3, but I found the jeopardy/romance balance a bit off for me..

I really enjoyed this book! I loved the banter and witty comments between Ana and Rachel. I was rooting for them from the very beginning, obvi. But their chemistry was sooo good right from the start, you almost have no choice but to root for them. This book will def be one I read again because I enjoyed it so much. A great second book in this series. Also I give it a solid 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

A cocktail of drama and emotion!

Ana finally has a case that could get her the promotion she finally deserves. She meets Rachel on a night out, and they spend a wonderful evening together, but when it turns out Rachel is the surgeon she has served papers to for her case, things get complicated. With a tension between them, Ana and Rachel are still drawn to one another but this case is getting in their way.

This started off promising, then excelled as the drama was quickly dropped and the tension sizzled after. Ana wasn’t going to let anything get in the way of her case, and tried for the longest time to resist Rachel, when they kept crossing paths. Eventually, her heart and emotions were getting in the way, and getting to know Rachel and what had happened better, left her turning to friends and colleagues for advice for avoiding any conflict by being involved with her witness.

I felt for Rachel. She really liked Ana, but had a conflict of her own with how she was feeling about learning Ana was the one serving the papers. Initially it was so awkward because it was so telling they knew each other at the disposition, yet they both tried their best to hide it. This was one of those stories where fate had decided both characters had something to learn, and it wasn’t going to stop until they had.

It had fun moments, flirty ones, and some quieter emotional ones. It was quite the ride, but always exciting.

Wasn't aware there's a first book in this series but it's a standalone story line and doesn't hinder any enjoyment. It was a quick read, the chemistry between two MCs was off-the-chart, the tension and mystery for the case involved with the doc had me flipping through the book, wanting to learn the details, however I thought it was kind of anti-climactic with the last scene and abit over?. It was enjoyable read nevertheless and now I want to read the first book.

A Conflict of Interest by Morgan Adams is a fun, quick, and easy read. It follows attorney Ana Mendez as she navigates a medical malpractice case involving cardiac surgeon Dr. Rachel Cohen, who is expected to testify about a past operation that ended in a patient’s death. While the legal case is central to the plot, I appreciated that it wasn’t an overwhelming source of angst. The conflict added depth without overshadowing the story, allowing the focus to remain on the building romance between Ana and Rachel.

What I appreciated most about this book was the rich representation of both Jewish and Cuban cultures. In many romance novels, cultural or religious identities are briefly mentioned but not deeply woven into the story. That’s not the case here. Rachel’s Jewish heritage is explored with care and authenticity. You get a real sense of how her faith and traditions shape her life. Ana’s Cuban background is equally meaningful, offering insight into her drive to succeed and her connection to family and community. From Shabbat dinners to sharing language and stories, the mutual curiosity and respect Ana and Rachel show for each other’s cultures was genuinely heartwarming.

That said, it did take a little time for me to feel fully invested in their relationship. After their initial meeting at a bar, they head back to Ana’s for what they both describe as “the best sex of their lives,” but as a reader, I didn’t quite feel that intensity. The scene was mostly fade-to-black, which would have been fine if the rest of the book followed suit, but later scenes were much more explicit. I found myself wishing there had been more emotional or physical tension in that first encounter to help sell the immediate chemistry. For me, the connection between Ana and Rachel developed more convincingly over time than it did at the outset.

Overall, A Conflict of Interest was an enjoyable read with a thoughtful blend of romance, culture, and legal drama. I loved seeing two strong, complex women learning about and embracing each other’s worlds, and I’ll definitely keep an eye out for more from Morgan Adams (secretly hoping for a Charlotte/Stella story next!).

Ever since View From The Top, I’ve been so curious about senior associate Ana Mendez and hoped that she would get her HEA. Let me tell you, A Conflict of Interest does not disappoint.

Ana Mendez, senior associate at Byron & Browning has been logging long hours to make it, to finally get the promotion she deserves. Her medical malpractice case might just be the ticket to her success, for her very male partners to notice her accomplishments. However, life has a funny way of getting in the way. A very hot one night stand leads to an unexpected encounter, the stunning red head she brought home from the bar, is the final doctor Ana needs to interview for her case.

Dr. Rachel Cohen, cardiac surgeon, was only a resident when a patient died at the hands of another surgeon. A night that she will never forget and to make matters worse, she’s served legal papers to testify. Even though it would be in both parties best interest to stay away from one another, the pull is too strong to keep denying.

I absolutely loved this story. I am a sucker for forbidden romances. The chemistry between Ana and Rachel was undeniable. Their banter was so light and funny which had me grasping for more. I honestly could not put this book down. The development of their relationship and the pace truly felt organic, even with a dark cloud looming above them. Morgan has a way of crafting strong and sexy independent women, that makes you want more. But it’s the quiet cozy moments intertwined with vulnerability that makes it hard to not fall in love with her characters.

A Conflict of Interest is a steamy, low angst, kicking my feet giddy, kind of romance. It’s an easy read that will leave you feeling satisfied. I’m excited to see what comes next from Morgan Adams. I am incredibly appreciative of the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is the second book by Morgan Adams, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! One of the main characters, Ana Mendez, appears in Adams's first book, but that is not a requirement for reading this story about her and Dr. Rachel Cohen. One of the tropes in this book is one night to forever, and I enjoyed the time it took for the two characters to re-meet and figure out their issues.

I thought their relationship developed well on the page. It was believable, had some humor, and was QUITE spicy. I liked each character's relationships with friends and family, too; they helped to make Ana and Rachel more than just two women who are well-established in their careers.

A Conflict of Interest is a fascinating medical/legal story alongside a romantic one. I would recommend it to readers who want to read about two competent and mature adults who have to navigate their careers as well as a romance.

Thank you to the author and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review the arc of this book!

From the moment Ana and Rachel meet their chemistry is off the wall but their path to romance has a shadow cast over it due to Ana’s work as a lawyer and something Rachel witnessed as a resident.
The story is funny, heartwarming with a tiny bit of angst and some HOT scenes.
Charlotte and Stella are great support characters and maybe they’ll show up in a story of their own - who knows.
This is the first book I have read by this author and really enjoyed it.

ARC REVIEW

Boy, oh boy, this book was perfect.

From the depth of the characters to the way their love story played out, I absolutely loved it. I felt the tension of their situation from the very start and loved their HEA. The way each character’s culture was lovingly written about helped to further develop who they were as people and the way they were written was brilliant.

The conflict had just the right amount of angst for me and kept me hooked throughout the entire read.

Can’t wait to read more of Morgan Adams’s work!

The synopsis of this book was promising and it did not disappoint. Pairing a lawyer and doctor together in a deposition was a unique enemies-to-lovers that was light on the enemies and heavy on the lovers. Throughout the book, you fall in love with their slow burn love and how they seamlessly flow into a relationship.

While it was a bit slow at the beginning, it definitely picked up as you move through the book and get intrigued to know what Rachel’s secret is. Their flaws and conversations add to the realism of their character and the side characters were just as enjoyable! I would love to see a second book in which Charlotte and Stella get together.

Overall, I would give this a 4/5 and you should definitely read this book!

I really enjoyed "View From The Top", so I was very excited to receive this ARC of its sequel. I'm happy to say it was just as good as the first.

The two main characters are well written and fleshed out with their own friends, families, ambitions, etc. I particularly liked the inclusion of Rachel and Ana's Jewish and Cuban cultures.

In terms of the romance, it's both sweet and spicy. There's clear feelings on both sides and lots of time spent with our two main characters flirting and bantering, which is something I really enjoy in my romance novels. There's also quite a few sex scenes adding that spicier element.

As far as plot, I loved the messiness of the conflict of interest in Ana's workplace. You could really feel the stress and tension of the situation, and it only built as both parties continued to ignore it. My only wish was that there was more "conflict" in the conflict of interest. Things seemed to wrap up almost a little too nicely, and I think there could have been a lot more explored there in terms of consequences and character growth as a result.

Overall, however, I blew through this one and enjoyed Ana and Rachel's story quite a bit. 4.4/5 stars.

An enjoyable read about a lawyer and a cardiac surgeon with a good pace. I love an opposites attract romance and loved the chemistry between Rachel and Ana. There were plenty of cute moments which I enjoyed and the ending was super sweet. However, I personally would’ve preferred more angst and feel the book could’ve gone that bit further with more tension between the characters, especially when the case had so much risk for both of them.
A highlight for me was learning about Jewish culture. I loved how it didn’t feel forced and has left me more educated.

I was intrigued by the whole start of the book where a hot lawyer and a hot doctor hook-up for a one-night stand and think they will never meet again but so wrong they were. The very next day they encounter each other when the doctor Rachel arrives at a deposition led by the lawyer Ana. Then we have the whole forbidden romance which I love. They try to avoid each other for a while because of ethical reasons but when they meet a few more times they cannot resist, and they are so right and hot together. It is still a struggle regarding how to handle the forbidden part of the story as well as the fact that Rachel may hide something regarding the deposition.

This is all going very well and I like the tension between them and how they get to know each other. They finally focus one something else besides their respective careers. But it is aiming for a crash at some point and unfortunately that and the resolution is coming a bit late for my taste and thus the growth of their romance as well as epilogue is a bit short. I do however recommend this enjoyable read.

would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this book

rachel is a surgeon
ana is a lawyer

their one night stand was amazing, rachel never expected to see ana again....so her shock at walking into the office for the deposition and seeing ana there was horrifying

ana was equally shocked and thankfully the deposition was cancelled due to a car accident

but now that ana and rachel had connected again they each fell the pull of each others attraction....

ohhh man what a storyline nerve wracking times ahead due to that deposition

cant wait to read whats next from this author

I loved this book… which is why I was very disappointed when the conflict was “solved” so easily and lowkey brushed past. We are waiting for this secret to come out that Rachel has been holding onto. There’s obviously conflict of interest with Ana and Rachel. But the way they solved it? I didn’t feel like it was realistic and it felt like both women were like, “Okay, that’s over, everything is kosher now(pun intended?). It honestly prevented me from giving it 5 stars. The ending seems so rushed.

But other than that, I loved both characters! I loved learning about Jewish culture and loved how the author portrayed it. Both MCs are fleshed out, in depth characters. The author had a good balance of humor and seriousness.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!

I never get tired of reading books where the characters have a one-night stand but end up meeting each other again in something work-related. Needless to say, I had a great time reading A Conflict of Interest.

The chemistry between Ana and Rachel is off the charts, with a good level of spice, and seeing them clash was very entertaining. Their relationship is also sweet and well-paced, even if it was a quick read.

The lawsuit, how it explores medical malpractice, and Rachel’s involvement add more stakes, which I really appreciated. I also really like the contrast between Ana and her Cuban Catholic roots on one side and Rachel and her Jewish roots on the other.

ARC Review: A Conflict of Interest by Morgan Adams
DNF at 48% (my very first DNF)

Writing Style
The prose is quite simple and direct; while this makes the story easy to follow, it may not offer the narrative depth or immersive quality some readers seek. The writing leans toward a more explanatory style, focusing on telling rather than showing. For example:

"She works Sunday to Thursday, which meant she would have Friday off to spend with family, which made her happy."

Much of the narrative presents actions and emotions in a straightforward manner, resulting in a style that feels more matter-of-fact than evocative. Readers who enjoy rich, descriptive storytelling may find this approach less engaging.

Characterization and Chemistry
The dynamic between the love interests feels understated, with their interactions coming across as somewhat restrained. The story maintains a gentle, calm tone but, for me, lacked the spark or emotional depth that often drives romance narratives. Character development is subtle, and while this may appeal to fans of low-drama stories, I found it challenging to connect with the cast or feel invested in their journey.

Overall Impression
Although A Conflict of Interest did not fully capture my interest, there are elements that could appeal to other readers. The structure is clear and accessible, and the plot moves at a steady, uncomplicated pace. The focus on family and work-life balance is a welcome theme, and the premise holds promise. While the story didn’t resonate with me personally, I can see it working for readers who appreciate straightforward writing and are looking for a gentle sapphic romance with a slice-of-life feel. If you’re new to the genre or prefer a more direct narrative style, this book may be a good fit.

This was quite an enjoyable book about a relationship between two intelligent, career-minded women. Ana Mendez is a senior associate lawyer from a Catholic Cuban family who reside in a small town outside of Miami. Ana now lives in New York City and is hoping to get promoted to of counsel position within her law firm.

Rachel Cohen is a cardiac surgeon from New York City who maintains a close relationship with her local Jewish family. She routinely visits with them most Friday nights when she is not at the hospital. Rachel is concerned about a legal deposition that she must participate in regarding a botched surgery performed by a senior surgeon that she observed as an intern. One night she heads to a bar in the city to relieve some stress and she meets Ana. They have a one-night stand that neither can get out of their minds. A short time later when Rachel attends the deposition appointment she is surprised to see that Ana is attorney overseeing the deposition.

There were several positives from my perspective about this story. It included women of differing multi-cultural backgrounds, different religions, differing professions, who get along quite well. The reader was able to learn a multitude of things about these aspects of their backgrounds. On another note, even after they discovered their one-night stand could lead to a conflict of interest they weren't able to stay away from each other for too long. They agreed to keep their distance physically and that lead to creative ways for them to get to know each other. It also lead to creative ways for the sizzling sparks to fly before their next in-person encounter.

Although the conflict was quickly wrapped up in the end, the book was a wonderful, spicy read.
