I was given the opportunity to read an ARC of Capturing Obsession, and boy did it not disappoint. I was hooked from the very first page. The writing is clean, engaging, and flows so effortlessly that I flew through the chapters without even noticing.

The characters are surprisingly likeable—layered, intense, and perfect for a dark romance—but what really stood out to me was the unexpected edge of comedy woven throughout. It adds just the right amount of levity without taking away from the darker themes.

If you love dark romance with compelling characters, smooth pacing, and a touch of humor, I highly recommend picking this one up. It’s an addictive read from start to finish!

Firstly, a massive thankyou to CC Gedling for sending me an ARC of this book!!
I absolutely loved this storyline and was hooked from the start!
Found myself kicking and giggling at parts, which is rare for a dark romance!
The main characters are so likeable in this, even Mason the MMC who is a mafia, stalker and psychopath.. still managed to show the lengths he would go to for Fern the FMC.
All very well-written and flowed so easily! Some of the issues displayed in this book that women go through are very well depicted and very realistic and relevant.
With it being mafia, I was relieved to read there wasn’t too much blood and gore!
The spicy scenes were so good, but didn’t take away the main plot of the story!
Overall, I really enjoyed every minute of this book and I would recommend to anyone who loves dark romance with tropes:-
- stalker
- mafia family
- touch her and 💀
- obsessive
- serial ☠️
I am very grateful for being sent this ARC and for anyone who wants to read this, it is available from 25th November 2025! (Check all the trigger warnings)

Capturing Obsession is the fourth book in C.C. Gedling's mafia series, if you include her prequel novella Craving Revenge. Which you most definitely should because Loch's story is just as good as Sean and Viktor's. Due to all the ties to the previous stories Capturing Obsession is best read as part of the series, not stand alone. It contains easter eggs for the other series she has written if you have kept up with them. It is also the darkest of any of her books simply due to who her male lead, Mason, is.

She forewarns at the beginning of her book that he is a huge red flag. And honestly the story should not work as well as it does. In any sane, rational world a woman would run screaming from a man who does the things Mason does to Fern. They're terrible. It makes Lights Out look like a healthy relationship. This book is for the woman who's always been afraid she can't be loved for who she is. Who wants someone to stare down into her soul and see the ugly rawness and be obsessed. This book is for this woman who has always loved the wrong person, but still hopes she might one day find a man who not just burns down worlds for you... But finds his peace with you. I loved it.

I was sent an eARC of Capturing Obsession by CC Gedling (thank you!), and from the first book I knew this series was going to consume me. I enjoyed it so much that I’m planning to pre-order some of her books for the HEA event in February 📚💕 The series is set in the UK which I particularly enjoyed!

This is book three in the Obsessed Mafia Men series, but it can be read as a standalone. Interconnected series are my favourite type of series so I read the first two books first as they were available on Kindle Unlimited. I always like to read all books in an interconnected series as the characters from past books often end up as side characters in later books and I like to know who everyone is - which is what happened in this series 📖

I’m really enjoying mafia romances lately, they’re such a good escapism as they’re so off the wall that you can really immerse yourself in them. I enjoyed the author’s disclaimer at the start of the book about how these books are for entertainment purposes and these MMCs are very much red flags IRL! This series is dark, so remember to check triggers before diving in ⚠️

Mason and Fern were such a fun couple. He’s the stalking, murderous, morally-grey mafia MMC who absolutely should not work as a love interest… but he does 🖤 I really enjoy how all of the MMCs in this series were so soppy for the women in their life.

Fern is so sweet, she’s a true crime fan and works managing a coffee shop. She’s in a relationship with a useless guy and going through a terrible health time with her periods. As someone who is currently going through similar issues (period issues that is, I don’t have a morally-grey mafia man as a lodger haha), I found myself really relating to her!

The story is fast-paced, and super addictive. I struggled to put it down, I got so swept up by the tension, the British humour, and the emotions. The spice is written really well, and I loved how he was utterly obsessed with her. There’s also a good plot throughout the book - it isn’t all spice - which I really enjoy in the romances I read 💕

If you love morally grey, obsessive men, great writing, and the kind of romance that shouldn’t work but absolutely does then this is the book for you.

Capturing Obsession releases today 🎉 and I can’t recommend picking it up enough. CC Gedling is now an auto-read author for me 💕📖

I Am Officially Obsessed!

Capturing Obsession is book 3 in the Obsessed Mafia Men series by C.C. Gedling and yet another absolutely amazing book in the series. If you want to get to know a stabby obsessed stalker who is salty for everyone except his woman and with a surprisingly wry sense of humor then you are going to love Mason with his hidden teddy bear heart. Fern is sweet, lonely and a little nerdy with an edgy serial killer/CSI obsession which ends up turning her world upside down.

Capturing Obsession is well written with engaging characters, the perfect amount of suspense, drama and spice and a story full of obsessed, morally grey mafia men who will do anything to protect and possess their women, even though we all know the women are really the ones who are in control!

Capturing Obsession can certainly be read as a standalone book and it has its own HEA however, you will be missing out on so much excitement if you don’t start at the beginning. All of these books share this same intriguing world and there are crossover characters and events from the books I am mentioning below. I have read them all and have a reading order suggestion if you love a good binge read!

This would be my recommended reading order;
1. Steel Vengeance- Steel Ventures book 1- this sets off an explosive introduction to many of the characters in this world.
2. Sweet Treats- I got this novella by signing up for C.C.’s newsletter.
3. Steel Protection- Steel Ventures book 2.
4. Steel Christmas- Steel Ventures book 3.
5. Craving Revenge- Prequel novella for the Obsessed Mafia Men series.
6. Hiding Desire- Obsessed Mafia Men book 1.
7. Seasons of Desire- A spicy collection of holiday based short stories including some characters we have met in the Steel and Mafia Men books!
8. Caging Innocence is book 2 in the Obsessed Mafia Men series.
9. Also, Shattered Hope is a short novella that I also received as a CC newsletter subscriber and it should not be missed, but FYI it will have spoilers so definitely read it after Caging Innocence!
10. Then, move on to Capturing Obsession!

"did he have a permit for that thing"

Who doesn't love an obsessive stalker who is also a serial ki!!er with ties to the Mafia? Well if that's not what you're looking for you should probably go ahead and skip this book as that's exactly what this is about.

Fern works at the local coffee shop and she is an avid serial ki!!er podcast listener. She loves to see if she can figure out clues or theories that the cops have not discovered. In doing so she's become obsessed with a specific case. What she doesn't know is the ki!!er will soon be closer to her than she ever would expect.

Mason grew up Being groomed into a serial killer. His story is tragic and highly unfortunate. After years of being groomed and manipulated he finds his way free of all of that. However, he knows that he will not stop ki!!ing because he's good at it and he vows to take down all of the people that hurt him and the other kids that were part of this grooming operation. He only takes out people who are guilty of heinous crimes and does not hurt women (there was only one and she absolutely deserved it).

Mason has become obsessed with this sweet little coffee shop waitress. So he is determinate to get closer to her. Looking into her he discovers she rents out a room and lucky for him that room is now vacant.

These 2 characters fit together so well. They have extreme chemistry and honestly her obsession with the serial ki!!er cases really fits in with who he is and why he hasn't been caught. Not that that revelation is well received. Their relationship is absolutely toxic but it works for them and honestly he's so obsessed with her and she needs somebody like that, serial kil!!er or not.

Thank you to the author for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Capturing Obsession delivers exactly what dark-romance readers come for: obsession, danger, and a romance that thrives on intensity. This story leans fully into the “stalker/assassin” dynamic and blends it with mafia intrigue, giving the book that addictive, high-stakes edge the genre is known for.

Fern and Mason are both shaped by their pasts in different ways, and I appreciated how their backgrounds inform the tension between them. Fern’s true-crime fascination adds an interesting layer as their worlds begin to overlap, and Mason’s unwavering fixation brings a level of single-minded devotion that fans of possessive heroes will enjoy. Their chemistry is immediate and charged, and the story explores their connection through a lens of danger, dominance, and loyalty.

The novel also expands on broader elements of the interconnected mafia world, offering familiar hallmarks that genre readers will recognise - revenge, shadowy secrets, and the sense that love can flourish even in the most unlikely circumstances. Although this is the third book in the series, it stands on its own and is easy to follow for new readers drawn to dark, morally complex romance.

Readers who enjoy Dexter- or You-inspired dynamics, morally grey heroes, and intense, twisted devotion will likely be drawn to this story’s bold, dark energy. Capturing Obsession leans unapologetically into its themes and delivers a dangerous, obsessive romance for those who crave it.

Awww my gawddd
holy hell
After the last book I couldn’t wait for this one
This book like every other in this series had me hooked I literally couldn’t stop reading

Red flags galore and I’m here for it all

Mason and fern wow this blew my mind
Both having rotten pasts she’s struggling to make her way through life and after one disaster after another she absolutely deserves all the happiness in the world and when a tattooed god walks into her workplace
It’s the start of something explosive and I was rooting for her hea
Touching upon many issues woman can go through, this was nice to see and a nod to those who do suffer

Mason takes stalker vibes to another level
I loved these characters and seeing characters from the other books was nice to read about I laughed so hard at the banter and the flow and pace of the story as usual was perfect.
This is no ordinary family and honestly they gave me hooked after every book I need more and more because I can’t get enough of them

Everything you want in a Mafia dark romance
Possessive
Mine vibes
Stalker vibes
Serial Unaliver
And sooo much more

Another great story from the wonderful world Gedling has created. While this is a stand alone story, it has characters from other books making appearances throughout. I love that! So if you’d like to have more backstory, I’d read all the others first, but it’s definitely not necessary.

This story revolves around Fern, a coffee shop worker who’s also obsessed with true crime and solving cold cases, and Mason, a serial killer who works occasionally with the mafia, but mostly taking jobs that suit his needs. Fern spends a little too much time on a certain case, and Mason notices. As he investigates and finally sees her for the first time, everything changes.

I don’t know about you, but I love me some obsessive stalkers, and Mason did not disappoint with his single minded focus on Fern. As the story progressed and you learn about each of them, as well as their pasts, I love how they both seem to fit so well together. The growth for both of them throughout made the ending that much better.

Overall, this book is definitely a must read, as are all of Gedlings other books. So go read it! ❤️

First of all, this book is not a romance, its the definition of dark romance. The relationship between the characters is not a healthy one. However, this was very clearly and boldly stated in the author's note. Usually I dont read dark romance, especially this dark, but as I priviously stated, if Claire wrote something, I have to read it 😊 and I'm never disappointed!
So I feel I read this too fast, at the moment I'm rereading to see if I missed something. This plot felt somehow very wrong and very right at the same time, meaning almost every wrong choice Fern did - dispite it being wrong, I would have probably made the same choice 😅 except for going to the anual meeting with her brothers... They are such jerks! I Loved Fern as a character, and Mason too. They are both smart, I like smart characters. The dinamic between them was interesting and fun. I really didnt see the end comming - meaning Mason's plans for his future, that was intriguining.
I do feel Mason's backstory is a bit lacking, one of the reasons I'm rereading to see it I missed something... Fern's insistence of a relationship with her brothers is also weird to me.
I enjoed the book alot and will no doubt reread it again in the future.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ — A Captivating, Passion-Filled Read

This book was an easy five stars for me. The chemistry between the two main characters is electric—both the emotional connection and the passion are beautifully balanced. The intimate moments are done just right: enough to keep you wanting more without ever overwhelming the story.

What truly pulled me in was how gripping the plot felt. It kept me asking questions in all the best ways, and the arc comes together in a deeply satisfying way. I found myself especially intrigued by Mason; I would absolutely love a separate book exploring his past. There’s so much there that I’d be eager to learn.

If I had any feedback, it would be that I wanted a bit more background on how he discovered Fern and how his obsession first sparked. A little more buildup before their meeting would have made the story even richer. But honestly, those are small notes in an otherwise fantastic read.

Thank you so much for the opportunity to be an ARC reader—this book left me craving more, and I’ll definitely be picking up the rest of your work!

"Capturing Obsession", is yet another absolutely great, worthwhile CC Gedling novel continuing the Obsessed Mafia Men series.

Not too much to say as I don’t want to accidentally toss out any spoilers.   This novel features Mason and Fern, Mason being the low-key, long-lost brother of a Mafia boss featured in 'Hiding Desire'. Mason takes it upon himself to win Fern over, trying to make her love him in a clueless tough guy way! His inability to know what actual love is, coupled with what she feels are his psychotic tendencies, among other key things, tends to be a problem.

There is quite a bit of interaction with previously introduced family and friends, so it would be best to read this series in order, but it isn't necessary. If you're prone to being a delicate flower, check the triggers first. Some readers might find something on that list!

So all in all, it was an enjoyable read for me, as CC's always are, and always draw me in. Plot, spice, mafia trope, and excellent storytelling!

What's not to like?

loving this serious so much!! i love an obsessed man and Mason is OBSESSED.

Fern is a true crime junkie and Mason is an assassin, what could go wrong?! well, Fern is looking into a case, going as far as to get the court transcripts bc she thinks the wrong guy was convicted. Who is the right guy you ask? i’ll give you one guess!!

When Mason finds out Fern is looking into one of his murders and getting close to the truth (not that there would be any actual evidence), he decides to insert himself into her life… he might just have to break his no killing women rule.

what he doesn’t expect is to actually start feelings things for her. looking into her turns into an obsession and now he needs to make her fall in love with him before she learns the truth -

”I wanted her to be as obsessed with me as I was with her, so that when she inevitably found out about me, she couldn’t run away.”

-assassin
-roommates to lovers
-boy obsessed
-touch her and die
-stalking
-pierced MMC
-age gap

I love this mafia series by CC it’s the best written mafia series that I’ve ever read. She always manages to make the characters feel more alive. The story for this book centers around Fern and Mason. Fern is a girl who is obsessed with true crime podcasts and has little going for her. Unbeknownst to her, she has attracted the attention of the killer in the case she is currently investigating. She then meets Mason who she is instantly attracted to. And he moves into her spare room as her new lodger. And quickly finds that they have an undeniable attraction to each other. But who is the killer that is hunting her?

I love the way this story was written but I do wish that we had gotten a little more detail about the characters lives previous to them meeting. Overall this was a great read and ties in beautifully with the rest of this series. Definitely recommend this whole series to anyone looking for a great mafia romance book.

It isn't often that you get a really good dark romance/ mafia/ serial K book set in the north of England, but this book really hits the spot. Both characters are really likeable and the MMC is a real "touch her and die" hero. It is a standalone in an interconnected series and reading this book really made me want to go back and read the previous books, I loved the side characters that much. It was a slowburn in terms of spice and romance but once it got started, it really went there and was fantastic, very well written. There could have been a little more background to the plot, especially regarding Mason's past. However, overall, i really enjoyed this book and I'm sure readers of this genre will love it too. Thank you to C.C Gelding for giving me the chance to read this book early. I cannot wait to go back and read the others.

CAPTURE ME!!

'I had more money than I could ever spend on bone saws for the rest of my life.' - Mason.

Oh my, these mafia men that C.C. Gedling has created are, downright delicious book boyfriend material. Mason is giving Sean from Book 1, Hiding Desire a run for his money!! Capturing Obsession is the third in this mafia series and like the others before it, is detailed, descriptive, engaging and charged with so much chemistry, the pages turn themselves. These characters are connected through killer vibes and obsessive nature, with dominance and possessiveness a key feature in their relationship. There is also a gentleness that shows in Mason's need to defend and Fern's need to please and nuture. The writing from C.C. Gedling is on point and captured me from the start and I'm hoping there are more obsessive mafia men in my reading future.

The men in this series just keep getting better. This is the 3rd book in the series not including the novella (you should totally read the novella.) This book can be read as a standalone, but they are somewhat interconnected and are best read in order.

Now for book 3... What's a girl to do for love when she constantly chooses the wrong guy and absolutely loves true crime podcasts/documentaries? Fall in love with a guy who's a walking true crime that's what. But don't worry, he's only stabby to others, not her. You'll enjoy reading about Fern and Mason as Mason falls completely and obsessively head over heels for the woman who got to close to the truth.

Mason might be my favorite, but sshhh, don't tell Sean.

Wow Fern and Mason were so fascinating. Their strange relationship and how it started was a great story.

Mason a Mafia assassin had an obsession on barista Fern who was originally on his hit list.

The intense attraction and Mason's intensity were a real drawcard for me. His over protective, stalkerish behaviour really added to his character. But it was that they both had issues personally.

But I loved the way he stood up for her, especially against her Brothers. How he got even with them was a real treat.

This book truly held me captive. Ending it was disappointing as I wanted more story. But like anything great, there is usually an ending.

You can't miss this book. Highly recommended!!

What a wild ride! So so good! I loved it! I have read the other novels in this series and loved them. This novel did not disappoint. I was so excited to jump back into this series. This series did not let me down. From the first chapter this novel sucked me in and held on tight the entire novel. I loved this novel. I loved Fern and Mason. Their chemistry was so intense. Both had been thru so much in their past. I loved watching their walls and defenses come down and fall in love. From the first chapter this novel kept me on the edge of my seat. I could not put this novel down. What a great wild ride! So so good! I can hardly wait to see what this author has coming next. I loved it!

What I thought would be a bit stalker, a bit creepy, turned out to be all sorts of obsessive protective hot! Mason, the cold, calculating, kill on demand psychopath that effortlessly slips in and out of the shadows taunting his victims (and friends...), until... An amateur sleuth, Fern, gets too close on one of his cold cases, asking too many questions... drawing his well aimed sights on her... initially to silence, but staking out his next victim becomes his obsession... Slowly but surely he becomes part of her world and I don't know how CC does it so well with these morally questionable characters, but she does... making you fall for them every time, rooting for the psychopathic killing machines HEA! Love the banter between the mafia men and the sassy, strong ladies that love them!

Ah yes please I need more Mason. Here I thought I was a Sean girl but sorry to my Irish hunk I think I'm more team Mason 😅.

I absolutely love C C Gedling obsessed Mafia men and Mason was no different. His Dexter vibes were definitely what made me want to read his book (coz I love that show). As a man who believes he has no emotions or heart you certainly see them shine though by the end of the book.

As for our girl Fern she grows a lot though out the book with all the different things that life and Mason put in her path, but ultimately she comes out of it a heck of a lot stronger then she was. She gains new family and builds stronger friendships.

Loved this book plenty of 🚩🚩🚩🚩for this Cereal unaliver that somehow finds himself obsessed with a girl next door type, a girl who has had her fair share of heartbreak, dodgy housemates and a loser boyfriend.
Her whole world gets flipped upside down when she meets a 🥵 customer who claims to know her house mate who seems to have skipped town without paying rent.
As always CC has delivered us another morally grey new book boyfriend, if you haven’t read the rest of the mafia men definitely check them out you won’t regret it 😉
While you are adding to your TBR pile add all the Steel brothers and Seasons of desire omg we all need a 🧞‍♂️ happy reading 😁 you’re welcome

I absolutely adored Fern, she's just the sweetest and most giving person, who deserves so much better than the family and ex bf cards shes been given. And Mason, oh man, talk about morally grey, he's literally the definition. I love how completely enthralled he becomes with Fern and he doesnt even understand how or why its all happening but that he just wants her to be happy and have all that her heart desires. Also the other men and women from the other books make an appearance which is always fun. *cough* Sean *cough* If you love a mix of mafia, lone assassin, touch her and goodbye forever vibes this is for you.

Amazing

I really loved how so many of the previous storylines from the first couple books were picked up and tied up. I loved getting Mason's pov on Sean and Viktor because he was so unhinged in their books. It was so interested to get to hear his side of the story. Fern was an amazing FMC. She was so strong and had dealt with so much. Mason was the perfect person to be with her because he saw the lonely girl and stayed with her when everyone else left her. She also didn't change who she was for Mason.
All in all I really loved this book.
I read this as an ARC and this is my honest review.

When the MMC is a stalker and assassin but will do anything for the women he has fallen for.
This books follows on from the previous books in the series and for full understanding it is best to read in order but there is nothing that means you couldn’t read it on its own, just a few points that you would understand more from reading the rest of the series.
We also get a glimpse of characters across each series that CC has written including Seasons of Desire and the Steel brothers.
I have enjoyed each book in this series and will definitely be continuing with the series.

“If you think it’s a professional killer, aren’t you worried they might target you for trying to get the case reopened?”

Fern loves true crime stories and her hobby is uncovering real criminals. She's totally into bad boys with tattoos. Mason is the perfect fit! Her new lodger looks like a walking red flag.

Capturing Obsession is the third instalment in CC Gedling's captivating Obsessed Mafia Men series. Mason is my absolute favourite!

So I love a good stalker and obsessed man and this book did not disappoint, honestly you could just read this book if you haven't read the others but to understand these men and there stories I would say read all of them. I have so many things I want to say about this couple I always say that the next one is my favorite but this one might just be truly my favorite one. I usually tell alittle more in my reviews but this is one that you need to read if you love the touch her or die and love your mms just alittle obsessed did I say a little 😆 🤣

C. C. Gedling writes red flag waving toxic men who I go feral over. 🥵 I loved this story. It’s spicy with suspense and an excellent ending. Mason is a ruthless killer and will stop at nothing to make sure every single name on his list is no longer breathing. Fern is a sweet woman whose life hasn’t been easy but she is strong and resilient. Like most relationships their journey to love had its ups and downs but ultimately was perfect. I loved seeing Sean & Mason’s relationship and the forming of a new alliance! Fingers crossed that Tolya’s story is coming.

This book is part of a series, but it can easily be enjoyed on its own. Although I'm missing a few titles from the collection, I found this one to be fantastic. I definitely plan to read the ones I haven't yet explored. The author, CC, made this story incredibly relatable, addressing real-life issues. The main characters are Fern and Mason. Fern is an avid listener of true crime podcasts and finds herself facing a stalker. When she meets Mason, she invites him to stay as her new lodger, and an undeniable attraction develops between them. I highly recommend giving this book a chance!

I did enjoy Fern and Mason, but their book/chemistry doesn't compare to the others in this series, or by this author. Overall decent read - we get some cute banter, lots of spice, and some action. My favorite was Mason messing with Sean in typical sibling annoyance. Always good to see the old characters from previous books and we got a special appearance from a Steel brother himself! I may have had a small fan girl moment there. I loved Mason absolutely destroying Fern's brothers in every aspect!!
