Melody had a basic life. A steady job, good pay, and friends were all she wanted until she’s invited by her mage friend, Vivian, on a one-of-a-kind trip to a resort that caters toward magic users and magical species.
Except she’s not magical at all, even though she’s a genius with numbers.
When this unassuming accountant discovers The Playground, a premier sex club on The Firebaugh Resort, she books herself for a free consultation. Hoping to figure out how to tell Vivian, who’s also her manager, she has a crush on her. Once there, she’s led to the private quarters of Mx. Beverly, an eccentric performer, and their group of nymphs. Together, they help her discover herself in ways she only dreamed about.
M.L.(Mel) Eaden works by day in the tech industry, but at night, she reads books, writes stories, and is an avid board gamer. Originally from the sunflower state, she migrated to one with a lone star for work and sunshine. She has indie-published several books and short stories from the same queer-centric universe. She’s also published several contemporary short stories in anthologies.
I won this eARC in a goodreads giveaway; all thoughts are my own💛
This was such a unique experience! I really enjoyed the theme and setting- a resort for mystical creatures & The Playground!? I loved it! I loved the lgbtqia+ representation in this book and how much the characters cared about consent. Kinktober did not disappoint & I’m excited for everyone else to read!! You’re gonna reach the end wanting more.
The Web of Athena was such an interesting read, with far more heart than I was expecting! I'm over here thinking I was getting out and out smut (which, I totally did and yes, please, can I have another :p), and got socked in the feels too!
I loved Melody and how she found herself from Mimi, the overworked and underappreciated accountant. I was so glad that she didn't end up with a certain someone, and that she found her place. She really came into her own, and I absolutely love that for her!
This world, and The Playground itself, have me so intrigued. I'd love to see more with Melody's adventures with her new companions, as well as more pairings and fun at the club! There's so much fun stuff there, and I really hope to get to explore more in the future
This was such an interesting read with a wide cast of characters. I loved the variety of species that were on the island and the respect given to consent was beautiful. I also loved how much Melody grew and evolved and when she took her power back, it was perfect.
This was such a fun and steamy read. Melody’s journey from quiet accountant to confident explorer of her desires was both hot and heartfelt. The magical setting, queer joy, and kink-positive vibes made The Playground experience unforgettable.
Perfect for fans of inclusive, spicy fantasy with a soft emotional core. A great addition to the Kinktober Series!
