The Hunter has slain demons and defeated powers beyond comprehension.
But his fiercest battle has yet to come…

Shipwrecked and cast adrift, the Hunter must brave the open ocean to save his injured daughter. With the aid of an enigmatic sailor and mysterious, guiding tides, they reach the shores of a jungle island found on no map, home to a people hidden for centuries from the world beyond.
The Hunter must face deadly trials not merely of strength or skill, but of courage, resilience, and, above all, truth.
Truth that, once revealed, could cost him his daughter forever.

It’s not just the world at stake anymore—the Hunter must risk all to protect the one thing he cannot afford to lose.

I am, first and foremost, a storyteller and an artist--words are my palette. Fantasy is my genre of choice, and I love to explore the darker side of human nature through the filter of fantasy heroes, villains, and everything in between. I'm also a freelance writer, a book lover, and a guy who just loves to meet new people and spend hours talking about my fascination for the worlds I encounter in the pages of fantasy novels.

Fantasy provides us with an escape, a way to forget about our mundane problems and step into worlds where anything is possible. It transcends age, gender, religion, race, or lifestyle--it is our way of believing what cannot be, delving into the unknowable, and discovering hidden truths about ourselves and our world in a brand new way. Fiction at its very best!

Good character development from our main cast, as usual. Only gripe I have is the story was a bit slower than it usually is. Still, great read and can't wait for the next installment

Every time I read a Hunter book, I inevitably shout, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO ME ANDY????" But I wouldn't have it any other way....The Hunter is, without doubt, one of my very favourite characters of all time, he is right up there with Drizzt. One of the reasons, and there are MANY why I love the Hunter so much, is because of his heart. He has heart, he has soul, he FEELS with every fibre of his being, one couldn't find a more tortured soul than him. Despite his shortcomings, despite his genetic makeup, despite what he is and what he was bred for, there's a vulnerability that just makes me want to give him all the love in the world, to hug his pain away. And Andy brings it all to life, graphically, evocatively. Shoo, he doesn't stop assaulting the senses for one second! Andy plunges right in with pulse charged adrenaline, into a rescue and a battle.... which, Andy style, escalates rapidly!

The Hunter can't seem to run from his past nor who he inherently is. Shipwrecked, barely surviving an attack by a kraken, mysterious forces land him, Jaia, Allaserd and a new character, Nettle Jack, who's awesome btw, on an island which proves to be....challenging. The people of the island, though friendly, have strange customs which they are "enlisted" to partake in. Trials, and each trial tests him to his limits, not his physical limits but his innermost, concealed thoughts. One in particular, needless to say, cut through my heart like a blade. “I am terrified that I am as the world sees me. That no matter what I do, I will always be broken, tainted, monstrous. Evil” I just wanted to sob! Andy laid out the structure meticulously, methodically, one step at a time, from the earlier tormented Hunter, who wrung my soul like a wet cloth, to a caring one, one of allowing himself to feel. To feel love. To love. To accept and rejoice in the family he adopted. This killer, this seemingly brutal man, was far from what the world around him saw, he was always more. The crafting of the Hunter by this author is beyond exceptional. Even at his deadliest, Andy "showed" us there was more to him than just the brutality he portrayed. But the trauma, the despair still clings to the Hunter in the form of his daughter, Jaia and oh my lordie, as much as I understood where she was coming from, her display, her animosity towards the hunter bore a hole through my heart. He who is a champion of death, is a champion of the innocent, of children. THIS is who the Hunter is, even Jaia eventually acknowledges it, “As the histories of Einan make clear, the Abiarazi wanted nothing more than to slaughter and conquer. Yet you do the opposite. You defend and protect."

This book is a fabulous addition to the series, it once more allows the reader to see, first hand, the growth in the Hunter, to witness his vulnerability, to see how the changes have shaped him and OMG, these changes are spectacular! When faced with the reality of sacrifices, we SEE his repulsion, we FEEL his determination to find another way. We GET to experience all of the Hunter's pain, physical, emotional, psychological, bared open, by this esteemed author. The characters are full, richly clothed and incredibly likeable. Like Lualani, Tama’eo Mafanu’a, who is the next to be the one to do the goddess biding, who is a little girl with a huge weight on her shoulders, which inevitably led to a rift between her parents, Tanoa and Serenya. These events churned and turned my stomach, because, although the Hunter travels through many realms, somehow, he always seems to come back to the Serenaii, their influence, their works, their ruins, which is broadly stretched across many. The events Andy lays out are OMG heart wrenching, the revelations he throws in has me agog and builds a world so intensely, magnificently complex, I was, as I always am, utterly riveted. The influence of the Serenaii, even on this remote island is very evident but what transpires is so not! I was taken through one earthshattering moment to the next, never certain which way the axe would fall, thanks to the brilliance of this author. The storyline is spectacular, as is the pacing. Yes, it's a long book, but I hardly notice that, I'm just glued to what I'm reading, barely able to tear myself away.

The turmoil in the Hunter screams through the pages. He finally gets to let his daughter know the truth of who he is. But I admit, I really wanted to box her ears at how she behaved towards the Hunter. For all her posturing, Jaia's animosity stems from a deep hurt, one of abandonment. Once more, the raw emotions Andy captures, eat at me like acid in my guts. There was soooo much angst, so much action, the body count at the Hunters hand is a given, but, this time, it's against demons. I really love the explicit detailing this author brings into every page, be it landscape, or character, his portrayal is fully dimensional. He destroys me, and, even without welding Soulhunger, pierces my soul with his storytelling. My heart dropped like a stone, a number of times, so devastated was. In fact, at one stage I was convinced this was it...I but Andy, in his very twisty way, helped make my heart soar with joy. In amongst all the battles, the gore, the churning emotional onslaught, Andy weaves a thread of hope, one that lights the spark in the reader, which only makes this book and series a devastatingly awesome read!

The thing I like most about the Hunter is the way his character has been evolving along the years, he started out as the cold hearted Hunter of Voramis, who still cared for those most vulnerable, then he spent years searching for his beloved wife Taiana, and when he found her he made her a promise to search for his daughter and act as her protector once he found her. This became Hunter's biggest challenge, and once he located and hitched up with his daughter Jaia, the arrogant Contessa, who treated him worse than a piece of dirt stuck to the bottom of her shoe, he did all he could to not only protect her, but try to get closer to her. He saved her life many a time, but every time she drew further away from him. In this book we get to see the hunter fighting to save Jaia's life yet again, and a people he never even knew existed, till he landed on an island after the ship they were on was attacked by a kraken. Isilele tests not only his body, but his mind and above all his soul, he finds himself tested to his limits and at one point in the book I thought he really was a goner. I love the magical island, and it's people who lived in harmony accepting all who their goddess Mafanu'a brought to their shore. But mostly I love the vulnerable side we get to see of Hunter in this book, as he finally reveals to Jaia who he really is in relation to her. I hate that she is so cold towards him, as I feel he has proven his loyalty and care over the years to the daughter he never knew existed, through no fault of his own. I as always await keenly for the next book, in this, my favourite assassin series.

This is another awesome Hunter book! Author Peloquin doesn't disappoint with this series, and this one hits with a whole new kind of intensity.

There's a mix of chaos, myth, and emotion on full display as Hunter is thrown into challenges that test far more than muscle or magic. What reallyhit the hardest for me were the quieter, internal moments: the ones where he’s forced to confront the parts of himself he’d rather keep buried. Those scenes land just as hard as the external action scenes.

His strained connection with Jaia adds another layer of tension. Even when her reactions sting, they feel painfully real. The island setting is strange in all the best ways, the pacing moves quickly, and the character growth feels earned. With this series, Author Peloquin keeps finding ways to surprise me. This book is another gripping chapter in a series that just keeps getting better.

Tha Hunter, Harbinger, Forgotten one and??

This was such an awesome experience to see again how much the Hunter has grown. And then with him landing on this island 🏝 out in the middle of wherever he again has a special role to fill. The other best part is the relationship with his daughter developing. I love that. So why when they are off and onto the next partof their journey that such a painful message is waiting for the Hunter? And how long until the next story?

Excellent

Andy enjoys this! Keeping us on pins and needles waiting on the Hunter. He's all action almost as bad as a lot of the modern day action films.

Did not disappoint

It was fast paced, and a page turner. I love this series and how the action is constant, never boring. Can't wait to read the next one!
