Brilliant is the story of nineteen year old Paige Jha, the youngest college professor in the United States, hired to teach physics and Far Eastern philosophy at a prestigious college just outside Seattle, Washington. Abandoned by her anarchist parents at age twelve, Paige's grandfather raises her with logic, love, classical piano, and savory Indian cooking.
This was a deeply interesting read. Brilliance often comes with special needs, and she delivered that perspective ... well, brilliantly. This is a short, powerful book that I will recommend to people.
This is one of those rare books that left me really wanting more: What happens in the rest of her life? How did she learn to cope with the challenges she faced growing up? What gave her strength to not just give up on finding a place in this life?
Hats off to the author for addressing the topic of brilliance and autism! This little book opened my eyes to the challenges that must be dealt with by the autistic. It also gave me reason to reflect on my own tendency to make assumptions and be judgmental. Not every book make me think!!
