Hands Off! The 100 Day Agreement

Rate this book
One hundred days without sex? Is that even possible?

When I got offered an exchange to the Italian art school of my dreams, I nearly cried. I could barely afford college expenses at home let alone in a foreign country but it’d break my heart to knock them back. Then my rich and uptight grandmother called with her offer.

If I stopped screwing around, she'd foot the bill. So I agreed. I figured she didn't really care about my sex life, she just wanted me to keep my partying off the radar.

I was so wrong.

The sexy but annoying Chad moved into my apartment to keep me under surveillance. Why wasn't Chad dying to get into my pants like every other guy I've met? He had secrets and he wanted me to fail.

One hundred days is a helluva long time to avoid temptation – even longer when Chad becomes the temptation.

Candy J. Starr

Candy J. Starr used to be a band manager until she realised that the band she managed was so lacking in charisma that they actually sucked the charisma out of any room they played. “Screw you,” she said, leaving them to wallow in obscurity – totally forgetting that they owed her big bucks for video equipment hire.

Candy has filmed and interviewed some big names in the rock business, and a lot of small ones. She’s seen the dirty little secrets that go on in the back rooms of band venues. She’s seen the ugly side of rock and the very pretty one.

But, of course, everything she writes is fiction.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

Hands Off! The 100 Day Agreement by Candy Starr is a reverse of many of the stories out lately. In this story, the heroine is the "bad girl", sleeping with just about any willing guy, and the hero is the good guy. The story is told from the heroine's point of view.

This is a fast read. It's very predictable, but still enjoyable. In the beginning, the voice of the heroine made me laugh, but I have to admit, I was ready for her to grow up long before she actually did. The biggest thing I felt missing from this story was the payoff. I would have liked more of the characters after they finally get together.

I would recommend this for anyone looking for an easy, light romance. Although I would classify this as NA, for a story entirely about sex, there's very little of it. It's talked about a lot, but not happening much. As someone who loves YA, I'm not one who requires sexual situations; however, I felt this book was lacking in not giving the reader a payoff scene due to the fact that sex was the entire driving factor of the story. In my opinion, the book is definitely not appropriate for YA, but I felt it was a little lacking for NA. Overall, it was enjoyable, though.

“We’d just got to the part where Harry and Draco Malfoy had intense sexual tension going on.”

Art student Lucy loves sex. She loves sex so much that she’ll gladly partake in it with any guy who is willing to have her – which, as far as she is concerned, is every guy. Lucy’s high-stringed, controlling grandmother hates that Lucy loves sex, and forms a cunning plan to have her granddaughter behave in a way that she deems appropriate. If Lucy manages to abstain from sex for 100 days, then her grandmother will fund her dream art exchange trip to Italy. Lucy can’t back down – not if it means living her dream. Besides, it can’t be that hard, right?

Enter sexy bodyguard, Chad. Hired by Lucy’s grandmother to make sure she upholds her end of the bargain, Chad follows Lucy around like a shadow. A ridiculously attractive and incredibly tempting shadow. Will Lucy be able to resit living with a man who both irritates her, and gets her all hot and bothered, all at the same time? Maybe things aren’t as easy as they seem…

I really thought I’d like this book. The premise sounded fun and light-hearted, with some good romantic potential. Unfortunately, I was left feeling incredibly disappointed. About a fifth of the way through, I knew this one wasn’t going to be for me – but I persevered, living in hope that it would redeem itself sometime before it reached its conclusion. It didn’t.

Lucy was, quite possibly, one of the most irritating protagonists I’ve ever had the misfortune of reading – and this is coming from someone who has suffered through Anastasia Steele and Bella Swan. She was so immature and selfish the entire way through. Her inner dialogue was completely exhausting, too. I think she was supposed to come across as funny but, for the most part, she just irritated the living daylights out of me. Some of the things she thought – or said – came across as incredibly childish, especially for someone who was supposed to be of college age. I mean, “I bet it was a chick. Damn her. I hated her.” Come on! Also, if I had to hear about her damn “sex eyes” and how “no man could handle them” one more time… It was almost as bad as Ana and her “inner goddess.” Eurgh.

In regards to the relationship in this book… Well, was there even a relationship? There was absolutely zero chemistry between these characters. None. Like, at all. And then, all of a sudden, she was in love with him?? Because he was so sensitive and caring and different from all the other guys?? I’m sorry, Lucy, but I’m really not sure how you managed to work that out, considering the guy had about 15 lines of the most boring dialogue in the history of the world. At least the fact he was completely 2d stopped him from being anywhere near as irritating as Lucy though, I guess.

I really hate giving negative reviews, so I’m not going to say much more on this. Basically, I felt like it was a good premise that could have been executed in a better way. Unfortunately, I'm just not a fan of this author’s writing style, and I doubt I’ll read any more of her work.

I do think that a lot of people will enjoy this as something quick and fun to read. It had its humorous moments, and the interactions between Lucy and her friends are enjoyable to read. I think it will suit people looking for something light and easy to read. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t for me.

“I know you aren’t going to sleep around. You’re in love with me.”

Sometimes you have to wonder if other people know what’s best for you and they just go about doing it the wrong way, or maybe they just like to start drama but are happy it all works out in the end. That’s how I felt about this book and I loved every minute of it.

We meet Lucy who is trying her hardest to earn money to go study abroad in Italy, but then in comes her grandmother with a proposition, you can only imagine things go downhill from there, or do they? The terms, Lucy must behave like a proper young lady all the while keeping her new bodyguard Chad who also has a stake in this. This all comes with grandmother’s 100 day agreement of course. Either way someone will be granted a large amount of money. But is it worth it?

The two butt heads at first but eventually when she’s down in the dumps Chad is there for her and the tables turn. I love how Lucy will refer to him as The Chad. There were a lot of great lines in this book but I think I was a bit biased because I always love it when there is a bit of foreign slang to my Americanized one. Their friendship grew and it was cute seeing them develop feelings for one another. Although Chad isn’t much of a talker in this book you still learn a great deal about him through Lucy’s snooping. There were a lot of great moments between them and goes to show you that there are people out there that you can lean on even if they are getting paid for it. After all we are all only human right?

This was a quick read with great characters that left you smiling and completely believable in everyway because I could imagine this book playing out in real life. As crazy as it was it was a fun read and definitely something to occupy yourself with. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m completely team Chad but I do have to say the incident that happens towards the end WOW lol, I can’t even fathom doing something like that but what must be done must be done. Great story!

I really love this cover and would definitely pick this up to see what it was about but that is not how I pictured Chad at all, but still not too bad.

3 stars goes to:
HOT cover, cute premise and foundation of storyline and the small handfuls of humour scattered through the first half of the book.

I didn't feel the chemistry between the H/h but that could be because there wasn't enough dialogue or details with the romance development. Kinda like a friend trying to tell you the details of a hook up instead of really feeling privy to the characters moments for yourself. Again, this could be because of the lack of dialogue or missed opportunities being glossed over instead. The whole deal and set up between the grandma and MC's seemed to have heaps of holes and flaws but it wasn't so bad as to frustrate me, so I easily overlooked it.

The biggest sad, emoticon face for me was the lack of steam :( for an N/A book with a synopsis revolved around sex, I was surprised and disappointed that I didn't get any nookie *double sad face* :( :(

All in all, I didn't want to give this story lower than a 3 because I feel I need to give props to the author for putting herself out there and can certainly see a talent that will only get better. I'd normally give this book a 2, but that's just because I'm a smut whore who normally acts like a whiny turd if she doesn't get her smut fix.

Told in the heroine's 1st person POV. Standalone novel with quick HFN.

This one definitely wasn't for me. Lucy annoyed me like no character ever has, she was annoying and selfish. Her inner dialogue was just exhausting!!!!! And chad.... You're in love with him?! Really?! Because I think he had all of 10 lines before you decided that. Seriously... I was halfway through the book and he hadn't said hardly anything! How can you connect with the characters or be invested if there is no dialog???

The only reason I gave this 2 stars instead of one was because the plot was original even if I did feel it was poorly executed.

Sacrifices made for love

It was predictable but a lovely story. It tough her how to love. How she didn't need to keep doing what she was doing. I think in a cold hearted way her grandmother set that up so it wasn't about sex but about getting to know someone. And I think part of that was her buying her painting to help her out. I think she wanted her to think about what was more important even I done the wrong way. Even tho there was zero sex or heat it was still a greats story. Note to author most readers want hot steamy sex even if it's at the end. The only reason for the 4 stars there was not steamy scenes. Kinda a turn off to me. Just my opinion and to myself only. But Anyways I enjoy the book. I think you will too.

3 Superficial Stars!

Source: eARC for Honest Review Courtesy from Author

So after enjoying the Bad Boy Rock Star series when given the chance to read this book I jumped on it. After reading it I didn't love it as much. The writing was fine, but I couldn't and didn't relate to the sex crazed superficial party girl.

"See, this is your problem. You just see men as a bit of meat attached to a cock. Have you ever got to know a guy, really know him, before screwing him?"

For Lucy, she LOVES sex and really doesn't take anything to serious but think she is god's gift to men. However, the one thing that she does fear is her grandmother, so when her grandmother comes up with an asinine proposal for her to keep her legs closed she is forced to do it.

Lucy thought this would be easy as all she had to do was seduce her new bodyguard and then she can have sex and the prize at the end without her grandma being any the wiser. What she didn't anticipate was that Chad had more at stake then she did with this new agreement.

So Lucy starts by treating Chad like a piece of dirt but the more time they spend together the more she realizes that he's not so bad and starts up a friendship with him. But the stakes are higher with Chad than Lucy so the game is amped up so he can win.

For Lucy she's in a new position where she actually cares for someone other than herself and her two besties, which is a new sensation for her. Realizing what Chad has to lose, Lucy does the unthinkable and sacrifices herself even though it breaks her heart.

But that sacrifice was worth it and she would do it again especially if that mean she gets to screw her grandma over and Chad's gets what he needs most. Finally growing up Lucy starts to blossom to more. While learning that the reward is so much more because now she has heart which belongs fully to Chad.

I always find it harder to rate a book when it is the character that I don't relate to, not necessarily the book or the writing. If I was to ignore the hollowness of Lucy then I will give this a 3.

OMG… amo a esa vieja.

HANDS OFF! THE 100 DAY AGREEMENT by Candy J. Starr is a 4 star contemporary romance that will have you laughing, smiling, fuming, and crying along with the characters!

This book revolves around protagonist, Lucy, and hot and sexy bodyguard, Chad. Lucy, a art student that has sex with almost every single guy that's willing, enters a proposal with her uptight, controlling grandmother: if Lucy doesn't have any sexual relations for three months, her grandmother will pay for the art exchange program that Lucy desperately wants to do. The only problem: Chad, the hot and sexy bodyguard, well...guards her and makes sure she doesn't break the contract. If she does, the money goes to Chad.

Candy J. Starr created a compelling and engaging romance that kept me wanting more! I enjoyed all the characters, even the grandmother and Rebecca (the bitchy one). While Lucy isn't the typical art student with a notoriously wealthy grandmother, she is a character that many can relate to. She is outgoing, fun, and struggling financially to follow her dreams of becoming an artist. As the story progresses, Starr reveals that Lucy isn't all that insensitive and sex-addicted. She struggles between what she wants and doing what she thinks is right. She's the everyday human being.

The relationship between Lucy and her grandmother was very unique and unexpected. Typically, the grandmother is all-knowing, sweet, and loving. Not Lucy's grandmother. She's cold, uptight, controlling, and protests against anything that isn't the social norm of the rich and royal. I found their relationship to be very interesting and unique, a definite aspect of a story that I've never seen before.

The chemistry between Chad and Lucy was, at first, kind of abrupt and sudden. I didn't feel like Starr built up their chemistry and relationship enough. It sort of felt like a "hey, let's put these two people together and have them kiss in this scene" kind of feeling. I wish their chemistry would have been a little bit more gradual. But, later in the story, their chemistry was amazing! I think these two characters are the cutest! I LOVED the ending and couldn't think of a better way to have a happily ever after for Lucy and Chad.

Candy J. Starr, if you are reading this, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE consider writing a story about Jayne in Italy! I could totally see her falling in love with some hot, sexy, and stunning Italian :)

Don't keep your hands off this book :)

The 100 Day Agreement is a different but light read. Lucy, the main character is the bad boy in this story who has random hook-ups all the time and seems to be happy with it. She doesn't know what she is missing in her life until she meets Chad.

Unfortunately she meets him, since her horrible grandmother, who she (and also I) can't stand, has assigned him as the bodyguard of sorts who has to supervise that Lucy won't break the contract she signed with her granda. An agreement that the well-off grandma will pay for an exchange program in Italy, if Lucy will abstain from her unladylike lifestyle and not have sex for 100 days.

Chad's life is little of a mystery and you only get a little background info about his motivation for the job and his personality and I would have liked to have learned more about him. But what you learn is enough for the story, since the focus of the story is more on the personal growth and development of Lucy and it therefore a predictable yet enjoyable read of her transformation in just 100 days. Though to give her slack with a grandma and parents like that it's no wonder that she needed Chad to finally realize what is important in life and what not.

*Many thanks to the author, Candy J. Starr, and the 'New Adult Book Club' for gifting me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

WFT?!?!?! Y después de esto vuelven! De no creer.

This was a wonderful story, I had to slow down reading it I was enjoying it so much, I didn't want to finish it too fast.

The main character Lucy had me in stitches at times, as she tries to change her life for 100 days with no partying and live a complete celibate life so her grandmother will pay for her Italian art school exchange program. And it didn't help any when a sexy, 6ft+ Chad was also hired by granny to follow her around to check that she kept in line. She was a terrible person, very controlling.

Lucy thought it would be easy, but not so, especially when he moved in her apartment. He was a bit of a mystery. One minute he was friendly and the next very aloof. She needed to know his secrets, but he wasn't telling. Chad had to be my favourite character, he was so tolerant and easy going. While Lucy was like a firecracker, you never knew what would be coming out of her mouth, she was great.

I found this book to be really entertaining, a fun read. It finishes a little fast at the end but apart from that I enjoyed it very much. 5/5

I received a copy of this book for an honest review

Lucy is an art student who likes to have meaningless sex. She comes from money but had to work for everything she got which isn't much. B/c he grandmother doesn't like her mom.

Lucy has a chance to go to Italy for a semester due to winning a contest that she knows its by default. However, she can't afford to go. Her grandmother comes up with the idea if she can behave herself dor a 100 day no sex, etc she pay her way. Lucy thinks easy peasy. She signed the contract (yes contract but remember her grandma is loaded). She never read that she will have a live in body guard, who happens to be hott.

At first she thinks she can make a deal with Chad its doesn't work, than she thinks she can seduce him, it doesn't work. those parts of the book are actually pretty funny. the rest you have to read my friends..

So why 3 stars..
there really wasn't chemistry between the h/h. It was just missing something.
I think the author has a lot of potential. Maybe making the book longer may have helped.

I was given an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review!

I enjoyed this book. It was a light quick read. I laughed at some of the book too. There were times when anyone could have related to Lucy when she was thinking of how her Grandmother and her related. Lucy always tried to defy her Grandmother, but don't we always try to defy those who parent us?! Then when they have something we want... we want to get the prize and still do what we want without them finding out and think they wont find out.. I laughed because her Grandmother used exactly what would be Lucys weakness to see if Lucy could follow the rules... a handsome sex object. However Chad wasn't interested, he just wanted the job and hoping to get the cash In the end... The story was cute and light and I loved how it ended and things can change for different people or also how people can change too when things are right.
I thought the book was well written. This was the first time I have read from Candy J. Starr and I look forward to more.

Rate: 4,5/ 5 stars

Hands off! The 100 day agreement

Unfortunately this was a book that I couldn't seem to warm to. While I love that the author took a female character and tried to reverse the typical roles; making her the stronger force, the confident, self-assured girl player... If I'm being really honest... It just didn't work for me.

She came across immature, self-centred, shallow, and superficial and just...annoying. I think there's a fine line between not enough, and too much when it comes to writing a very in your face female character, and in my opinion this one was just a bit too much. I wasn't impressed with her outspoken behaviour, I was cringing.

The premise for the story was great, I just couldn't bring myself to like the characters enough to enjoy the plot.

Not for me, but if you like a strong, mouthy female lead and don't mind a bit of immaturity, you might want to check this one out.
