Dans la nuit du 13 au 14 mai 1876, aux alentours de Riga, l'auberge de la Croix-Rompue devient le décor d'un meurtre aussi épouvantable qu'inexplicable. Poch, un employé de banque en possession d'une forte somme d'argent, est obligé de faire une étape imprévue à l'auberge ; il y est retrouvé assassiné au petit matin, dépouillé de ses 15 000 roubles, dans sa chambre verrouillée... de l'intérieur. Seuls étaient présents sur les lieux l'aubergiste allemand Kroff, ainsi que le professeur Nicolef que tout accuse. Les rivalités historiques entre Slaves et Allemands, dont cette région baltique est l'objet, ne font qu'accroître les enjeux de sa culpabilité évidente… L'honneur du professeur, à défaut de sa vie, pourra-t-il être sauf ?

Novels of French writer Jules Gabriel Verne, considered the founder of modern science fiction, include Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864) and Around the World in Eighty Days (1873).

This author who pioneered the genre. People best know him for Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (1870).

Ήθελα να το διαβάσω το συγκεκριμένο βιβλίο κι η ημέρα ευνοούσε για κάτι τέτοιο, δεν κατέβαινε μπουκιά κάτω, όπως δεν έφτανε και σελίδα απ' τα βιβλία μου στο μυαλό. Χάνονταν στο πουθενά. Ο λόγος που ήθελα να το διαβάσω δεν ήταν βέβαια, ούτε πως ήθελα να διαβάσω παραμύθι, ούτε για το χάπι εντ, που ήταν αναμενόμενο για έργο αυτής της εποχής, που απευθυνόταν κατά βάση σε νεαρόκοσμο ( και όχι σε παιδιά, όπως έχει περάσει σαν άποψη ). Ο λόγος ήταν πως ανήκει στα ώριμα έργα του συγγραφέα. Αυτό που το καθιστά ώριμο, είναι πως έπεται του θανάτου, του εκδότη Εζέρ, για τον οποίο έχει λεχθεί πως επηρέαζε υφολογικά κυρίως και θεματολογικά το Βερν. Το κυρίαρχο σημείο αυτής της επιρροής είναι πως ο Εζέρ είχε αποφασίσει σε ποιο κοινό θα πλάσαρε το συγγραφέα, με αποτέλεσμα να επιμένει στον αισιόδοξο τόνο. Στο βιβλίο, αυτό, επαληθεύεται, κατά την άποψη μου.

Μπορεί η τόσων χρόνων πρακτική να είχε αποκτήσει τη δική της ισχύ, που δεν επέτρεψε ένα λιγότερο θειοδικίστικο τέλος και κατά το δυνατόν ''ευχάριστο'', αλλά δεν ήταν πολύ ευχάριστο, ήταν μάλλον η τελική δικαίωση, που άλλους τους ξαλάφρωσε και για άλλους δεν είχε πια καμιά σημασία. Αλλά αυτό που κυρίως έχει σημασία είναι η θεματολογία, είναι η δριμύτητα της και το πόσο ντόμπρο είναι το βιβλίο, τουλάχιστον για τα δεδομένα της εποχής και γνωρίζοντας ο συγγραφέας πως αναγκαστικά το κοινό του πλέον, είχε επιλεγεί. Τα καλώς νοούμενα παραλείπονται, τα κακώς κείμενα απ' την άλλη, συχνά επίσης παραλείπονται. Αλλά γενικά, το βιβλίο απευθύνεται σε εφήβους, πιθανόν στο μεταίχμιο μεταξύ ανηλίκου κι ενηλίκου βίου.

Υπάρχει ρυθμός, υπάρχει φυσικότητα στους διαλόγους, η ανάπτυξη των χαρακτήρων είναι επιδερμική αλλά όχι υποτυπώδης στο επίπεδο που φτάνει και κάποιες σκηνές, ειδικά σε αυτές που περιλαμβάνεται όχλος, πείθουν και είναι αυτές ιδίως, που αποτελούν ίσως, το πιο διακριτό σημείο, ότι ο συγγραφέας έβλεπε τον εαυτό του και ως παιδαγωγό.

Θα μπορούσα το θέμα του να το θεωρήσω ακόμα και προφητικό, αλλά όχι για το βασικό στόρι, όσο για τις τέμνουσες. Τοποθετημένο στα 1870, το πολιτικό έγκλημα του Ρώσου Βλαντιμίρ βρίσκεται μέσα στη ''χρυσή'' τριακονταετία της δυσαρέσκεια του Ρώσικου λαού και του αναβρασμού. Ο άλλος λαός, μία επίσης απ' τις Μεγάλες Δυνάμεις, μοιάζει να επιβεβαιώνει την αυτοπρόκληση οργής για την οποία μιλάει ο Καμύ στον Επαναστατημένο Άνθρωπο, όπως άλλωστε κι ο Μπελ σε κάποιο βιβλίο που απλά περιγράφει τα αντικείμενα σε ένα γερμανικό σπίτι και δημιουργεί αυτή την αίσθηση. Κι αν πάμε λίγο παραέξω, το κύμα που ακολούθησε και στις δυο χώρες, οδήγησε στο θρόνο, δύο ψυχασθενείς τελικά, που βέβαια δεν ήταν παρά φαινόμενα της εποχής τους, τα τελικά.

Πιστεύω πως αν ο Βερν είχε τύχει της προσοχής ενός άλλου εκδότη, θα είχε γράψει αριστουργήματα. Η ''σκοτεινιά'' αυτή που θορύβησε και φιμώθηκε, δεν ήταν παρά το βήμα ενός πρωτοπόρου.

Ļoti ļoti švaka grāmata. Negribas pat ticēt, ka to ir sarakstījis izcilais Žils Verns.

Nelieku zvaigznes, jo lasīt nepabeidzu.
Paķēru bibliotēkā Jumavas izdoto grāmatu "Drāma Livonijā", jo ieintriģēja, ko manu bērnības grāmatu "Astoņdesmit dienās ap zemeslodi", "20 000 ljē pa jūras dzelmi", Kapteiņa Granta bērni", "Piecas nedēļas gaisa balonā" autors tādu varēja uzrakstīt par Livoniju.
Ko lai saka - labāk viņš būtu palicis pie sava fantastikas žanra (nezinu, kā būtu tagad, bet bērnībā man patika).
Vispirms samulsu, kad izrādījās, ka tā nav viduslaiku Livonija, bet gan 19.gs Лифляндская губерния - te varētu izplūst plašāk par Baltijas guberņām, bet ne par to stāsts, jo "Drāma Livonijā" nepretendē uz vēsturisko romānu. Kā noprotams - kaut kas līdzīgs 125 gadus vecam detektīvromānam, kurā autors mēģina "uzzīmēt" fonu.
Jāatzīst, ka sākums ir sanācis diezgan samocīts un parastu romānu es būtu nolikusi nost bez kādas domāšanas.
Bet urdīja ziņķāre, kādu tad Žils Verns redz mūsu zemi (un vēsturi 19.gs. otrajā pusē, kad Krievijas impērija uzsāka rusifikācijas politiku). Ja man pie rokas kārdinoši rindas kārtībā nestāvētu izlasāmas iekārojamākas grāmatas, es šo Verna garadarbu izlasītu kā interpretāciju par tēmu, lai arī mani aizskar tas, ka šeit dzīvojošie nevācieši viņam ir slāvi.
"Zemākā kārta Baltijas provincēs bija zemniecība, kas nīkuļoja priviliģēto jūgā, - vismaz kāds miljons cilvēku, - vietējie laukkopji, kas noņēmās ar smagajiem darbiem. Latvieši, kuri runāja savā senajā slāvu valodā (zemāk tulkotājas piezīme), bet pilsētnieki - joprojām vāciski. Lai gan iezemieši airs nebija vergi, pret viņiem bieži vien izturējās kā pret tādiem, reizumis tos saprecinot pret pašu gribu, lai vairotu ģimenes, no kurām saimniekiem bija ļauts ievākt nodevas"(65.lpp.)
Un tulkotājas Dagnijas Dreikas piezīme - "Nav zināms, no kādiem avotiem Žils Verns smēlies, bet šīs ziņas nepārprotami bijušas kļūdainas. Šādi maldi ir sastopami pat mūsdienās. Slāvu valodas gan ir piederīgas indoeiropiešu saimei, bet par baltu valodu grupu ne jau katrs ir dzirdējis."
Vārda " slāvs" (ierasti - "krievs") lietojuma dēļ manī ir pamodusies neliela interese paskatīties izdevumu krievu valodā.

Žils Verns bija no PSRS atzītajiem rakstniekiem- lielais fantasts. No bērnības un jaunības atminos "Kapteiņa Granta bērnus", kurus laikam man lasīja arī mamma, bet kuri man nešķita pārāk saprotami un "20 000 ljē pa jūras dzelmi", kuri laikam uzrunāja visvairāk. Bet nebija īstas vēlmes atgriezties pie šī autora, kamēr biblenē nepamanīju šo. Jo tagad liekas saistoša literatūra, kura stāsta par Latviju, Igauniju, mūsu mājām. Grāmatas sākums, kurā stāstīts par katordznieka bēgšanu no katorgas patika negaidīti labi. Arī apraksts par braucienu pasta ratos no Rīgas uz Rēveli, kā arī nodaļa par Dorpatas - Tartu studentiem, likās interesanti. Savukārt apraksts par krievu - vāciešu politisko cīņu nešķita pārāk reāls, lai gan pareizi raksturoja Livonijas etnisko sastāvu. Tas likās mazliet sadomāts, tāpat kā sekojošā kriminālā intriga, kuru arī tomēr varēja lasīt ar interesi. Beigās patika, parādītā romantiskā, tik ļoti Verniskā, varoņu goda un cieņas izpratne kura mīlētājus veda bezdibenī, bet laimīgā negaidītā noslēpuma atklāšanās, ļāva varoņiem un lasītājam uzelpot. Tas kas zudis ar Žilu Vernu un tā paaudzi ir šī romantika, kā arī lielā mērā aristokrātiskā pašcieņa un cilvēciskā goda izpratne. Bija tik jauki to vēlreiz sastapt.

Απ' τα τελευταία έργα του Ιουλίου Βερν, ένα πολιτικο-αστυνομικό θρίλερ, με ενδιαφέρουσες αναφορές στην πολιτική κατάσταση στις βαλτικές επαρχίες της Ρωσικής αυτοκρατορίας στις αρχές του 20ου αιώνα και γλυκόπικρο τέλος. Και οι αναφορές και το γλυκόπικρο τέλος είναι κλασικές στον Βερν.

Σε ένα χάνι λίγα χιλιόμετρα (βέρστια) πριν την Ρίγα, τον «Σπασμένο Σταυρό», συμβαίνει μια δολοφονία που καταλήγει να υποκινήσει εθνικά πάθη. Ο γερμανικής καταγωγής κλητήρας Ποχ, ενός τραπεζίτη που ανήκει στη γερμανική αριστοκρατία της Λεττονίας, κουβαλητής μιας βαλίτσας γεμάτης ρούβλια, βρίσκεται δολοφονημένος στην κάμαρα του ξενοδοχείου. Ένας μυστηριώδης ταξιδιώτης φεύγει αξημέρωτα από το χάνι. Ένας δραπέτης- πολιτικός κρατούμενος που το έσκασε από τη Σιβηρία και τον κυνηγά με λύσσα η χωροφυλακή του τσάρου βρίσκεται επίσης σε αυτά τα μέρη. Ποιος τον σκότωσε;

Ο μυστηριώδης ταξιδιώτης αποκαλύπτεται ότι είναι ο Ντμίτρι Νικόλεφ, εξέχον μέλος της ρωσικής κοινότητας της Ρίγας. Οι υποψίες πέφτουν πάνω του σε μια συγκυρία που πλησιάζουν οι δημοτικές εκλογές και οι ρώσοι θέλουν να πάρουν την πλειοψηφία. Η πόλη είναι διχασμένη. Και η αστυνομία είναι διχασμένη: οι ρώσοι αξιωματικοί προσπαθούν να αθωώσουν τον Νικόλεφ και οι γερμανοί να τον ενοχοποιήσουν. Δύσκολο έργο για τον δικαστή Κέρστρορφ.

Звичайна кримінальна драма, від одного із батьків наукової фантастики.

Tātad, mana pirmā krievu valodā izlasītā grāmata ļoti ilgā laikā. Jo tālāk gāja, jo ātrāk lasījās.

Kādā veidā es to izvēlējos? Man pastāstīja, ka pats Žils Verns ir rakstījis romānu par Rīgu un protams, man to vajadzēja sameklēt. Angļu tulkojums iznācis sešdesmitajos gados, nekur nebija dabūjams, toties krievu valodas tulkojums bez maksas bija pieejams internetā.

Pati ''Un drame en Livonie'' ir sarakstīta 1893. gadā, pēc fona notikumiem tā pārklājas ar A. Deglava ''Rīgā'' plaši aprakstīto vācu un krievu tautību Rīgas iedzīvotāju konfliktu, centrālajam šīs daļas notikumam esot pilsētas galvas vēlēšanāsm.

Es te nu ar sajūsmu gaidīju, ko ta Verns par Rīgu būs sadzejojis, bet tas viss pārvērtās par krimiķi ar slepkavības risināšanu. Skatoties pēc tā laika noziegumu risināšanas metodēm (vai metožu trūkuma), man palika bail domāt, cik nevainīgu cilvēku tais laikos iesēdināja par to, ko viņi nebija izdarījuši. Un visam tam pa virsu, es nevaru iztēloties, kā cilvēku nodurot un nazi nometot viņa līķim blakus, kāds var noticēt, ka tā ir bijusi pašnāvība. Varbūt par daudz CSI tipa seriālu sabojājuši manu uztveri tik vienkāršām lietām :)

Darbība risinās Rīgā, viena nodaļa Tērbatā (Дерпт, mūsdienu Tartu), pieminēta arī Rēvele (Tallina). Žils Verns nav bijis Latvijā. Viņam acīmredzot vajadzēja interesantu fonu romānam, taču ļoti labi var just, kā onkulis izvairās rakstīt par lietām, ko nezin. Nav nosaukta neviena Rīgas iela vai iestāde (pils neskaitās). Tērbatas nodaļā parādās divas studentu korporācijas, kas ir savstarpēji naidīgas un tiek pieminētas tikai tāpēc, ka abās ir pa vienam galveno varoņu dēlam. Nekas vairāk par to nav sacīts, tikai tas, ka korporācijas ir. Ne to piederības zīmes, ne tradīcijas, ne nosaukumi nefigurē. Bet tiek svinēta universitātes jubileja un parādās mēģinājums izsaukt kādu uz dueli. Autors it kā taustās apkārt lietām, cenšoties neiebakstīt kur nevajag. It kā slavējami, taču tai pat laikā darbs sanāk tāds, kāds sanāk.

Fakti par tēliem- vienam no kungiem romāna gaitā nomainās vārds (sākumā viņš ir Mihails, uz beigu pusi kļūst par Ivanu, uz ko tulkotājs bija norādījis). Plus, viņi visi ļoti daudz iekliedzas dvēseles sāpēs un raud :D Gan vīrieši gan sievietes.

Šī grāmata bija izaicinājums. Un ļoti savādāk kā mūsdienu ''detektīvi''. Es nezinu, kā to lai novērtē.

The first few chapters, with a convict on the run, then a brutal murder in a creepy inn on a stormy night, make you feel you are in the hands of a master story teller. Another plus is that Verne seems genuinely interested in the political context, namely the conflict between Slavs and Germans in the Baltic in the 1870s. However, after the murder + robbery, the tale becomes limp and repetitive. There are only 2 suspects, and since the poor but eminently respectable professor Nicolef can't be guilty, it has to be the innkeeper. Not clear to me why such an inventive writer as Verne was at a loss for material to spice up this tale, but the truth is, this book peters out dolefully.

Livonya'da Bir Dram, Jules Verne romanlarından alıştığımız, zamanın ötesinde uçaklar uçuran, denizaltılar yüzdüren, dünyanın merkezine seyahatler ettiren bir kitap değildi. Aksine, üzerine aşırı su katılmış bir Agatha Christie polisiye romanı gibiydi. İki adaydan hangisinin katil olduğu daha kitabın başından belliydi. Sonrasında da zaten kurguyu çözümleyemedi ve bir itiraf mektubuyla açıkladı.

Eğer siz de benim kadar çok Jules Verne okuduysanız, neden bazılarının daha popüler, diğerlerinin daha arkalarda kalmış olduğunu anlamışsınızdır.

Žila Verna vienīgais “dāvinājums” Baltijai. Grāmata kā tāda ir cringe - ne tik profesionāli sarakstīta, ja salīdzina ar citiem Verna mākslas darbiem.
Iespējams problēma bija tulkojumā, kas grāmatu, tās stāstu ir padarījusi tik... normālu (ne kompliments).

Inspirada en el caso Dreyfus, en el que Verne se situaba al lado del gobierno (incluso después de demostrarse todo el montaje), asistimos a una nueva variante del caso de los Hermanos Kip, en el que un asesinato (y robo) es achacado a otro según las pruebas.

Como siempre, la edición leída es la de Sáenz de Jubera de principios de 1900.

Šo gan izlasīju "pa diagonāli", tāpēc zvaigznes nelikšu. Iepriekš palasīju atsauksmes, ka galvenā vilšanās ir tā, ka no Livonijas grāmatā nemaz nekā nav. Tā ir patiesība, bet tas arī šķita visinteresantākais, kāpēc grāmatu "izšķirstīju" līdz beigām - kāda tad lielā franču rakstnieka acīs bija mazā Livonija? Noteikti kāda neliela Krievijas province, kurā valda nejaukie paverszinātāji vācieši un sliktāki dzīves apstākļi ir slāviem. Latvieši tike pieminēti tā starpcitu, minot, ka tie runā kādā senslāvu valodā. Arī grāmatas zīmējumi liecina, ka rakstnieka iztēlē te viss izskatījies īsti slāviski - patvāri, krieviski kažoki, popi. Man tas likās saistoši kā liecība tam, ka biežāk jā nekā nē uzskats, ka esma diženi un vareni, un mūs pazīst visa pasaule tā vai cita iemesla dēļ, būs ilūzija. KAut arī toreiz Latvija kā tāda vēl nebija - tomēr arī šodien, saskarsmē ar lielāku nāciju pārstāvjiem, joprojām ir grūti pārliecināt, ka šeit nerunājam slāvu valodā, ka slāvi nebūt nav apspiestā minoritāte utt. Un, protams, tīri cilvēciski interesanti - arī lieliem rakstniekiem, izrādās, var būt savas nepilnības. Kaut valoda lieliska, un ainas tiek uzburtas tēlainas un fantāziju rosinošas.

Yet it is not a great novel over crime and mistery is a intresting novel over the political ,national and comunity convivence problems in Livonia, a former province of the russian empire with capital in Riga that reached independence in 1918 and split in Estonia and Letonia till 1940 when were invaded and formed part of the Soviet Union,between people of germanic and slavic origen.

As many novels of Verne this exalt values as integrity,abnegation,fidelity and frienship.

Lugesin kunagi koolipoisina just seda eelmise vabariigi aegset väljaannet... noh, et ema oli miski haruraamatukogu lugeja ja seal oli säilinud ja anti isegi koju kaasa...
Üsna tavaline seiklusromaan, pisut sentimentaalne ja meile siin meeldejääv ilmselt oma tegevuskoha tõttu.
Kõhklesin hinde panekul pisut kahe ja kolme vahel, aga romaan, mis enam kui kolmkümmend aastat meeles püsib, selline romaan võiks vähemasti kolme saada.

The 52nd Extraordinary Voyages takes us to the Baltic states (at that time, Livonia was a Baltic governorate of the Russian Empire, now divided between Latvia and Estonia). Rather than a travelogue, adventure story or science fiction, this is a suspense story, a crime drama with political elements. Other Verne novels taking place in the Russian Empire include "Michael Strogoff: The Courier of the Czar" and, partially, "César Cascabel".

What is it about?: In the Russian governorate of Livonia, there are ethnic and social tensions between the population of German origin, mainly making up the aristocracy and and upper middle class, and those of Slavic origin, mainly lower classes. The Germans have more wealth and political power, but the Russian government is following a policy of Russification, trying to put more of that political power in Slavic hands. In the upcoming elections in the city of Riga, professor Dimitri Nicolef is expected to become the candidate of the the Slavs. However, these plans are derailed when a bank employee who was transporting money is murdered at the inn of the Broken Cross. The victim was about to get married, which further moved public opinion. Soon, professor Nicolef becomes the main suspect. He was the only person present, apart from the innkeeper. It is also discovered that the professor owed a large sum of money to the Johausen bankers, leaders of the German faction in the next election. Moreover, the professor refuses to reveal why he was traveling, which only increases the suspicions against him. From that point, he and his family are subjected to intense pressure from the police investigators and from the citizens, causing much suffering.


After a rather lackluster novel ("Travel Scholarships"), the Extraordinary Voyages get back in shape with "A Drama in Livonia". Although published in 1904, one year before Verne's death, it seems this novel was actually written ten years earlier, in 1894. More on that later.

This novel is quite short and, unlike "Travel Scholarships", it's never boring. It starts in the middle of the action, with a political prisoner who had escaped from Siberia being pursued by the police. Then we are introduced to the main characters of this drama and witness the circumstances surrounding the crime and the ensuing investigations and political tensions.

The sympathetic way in which the Nicolef family is presented makes us readers think that professor Dimitri Nicolef is innocent, but damning proof starts to accumulate, making us doubt.

It's a different type of story from other Verne novels, a crime drama that is mostly interested in the effects of the situation on the suspect and his family. It's a fast read and has a good pace. You can notice that it's designed to be published as a serial, as many chapters end with a twist or cliff-hanger. In fact, most Verne novels were serialized in the "Magasin d’Education et de Récréation" before being published in book form, but this serialized origin is more noticeable in this one.

The main weakness is that the ending is quite sudden, and a bit of a deus ex machina to reveal the truth of what happened. Because of that, I can not consider it a detective or police procedural novel, as the focus is not on how the truth is uncovered.

For a time, it was thought that this story had been inspired by the Dreyfus affair. It's mostly the story of a man under intense suspicion, the political tensions surrounding the case and the possibility of a miscarriage of justice that reminds us of the Dreyfus affair, although the novel does not have the antisemitic elements and the circumstances are different, the accusation being murder and robbery instead of treason. However, modern understanding is that it was written just before the start of the Dreyfus affair, so the similarities would be coincidence. The publication of the novel was delayed ten years, perhaps to avoid being seen as commentary on that real-life situation.

I found the depiction of the social conflicts in Livonia interesting, although I don't know how accurate they were. Perhaps not much because, unlike in many of his works, the descriptions of the the country where the story is set are superficial. This may be just a result of the novel being so short, or a sign that Verne had done less work of documentation. Verne presents the German faction in a much more negative light than the Slavic one, which I see as part of the author's antipathy against Germany, an antipathy that was born after the Franco-Prussian war and that can be noticed in several of his novels.

The tone is perhaps darker than in most Verne stories. The crime investigation element with a possibly innocent suspect reminded me of "The Kip Brothers", although this novel lacks the element of sea travel and, unlike in "The Kip Brothers", here we do not find out what really happened until the end.


Enjoyment factor: I enjoyed it, although the resolution was rushed. It was short, with a decent pace. The kind of plot and the tone is different from what you would expect in a more typical Verne novel. Not among his greatest works, but a fine late effort.

Lai gan Verna detektīvromāns ir gana interesants, autora absolūtā neiedziļināšanās Livonijas dzīvē ir šokējoša. Ziemeļvidzemniekiem nav nekādas iespējas ēst svaigus Daugavas lašus, 1893. gadā gan Rīga, gan Mītava (Jelgava) bija pievienotas dzelzceļa tīklam, utjpr. Turklāt grāmatā bija drukas kļūdas.

"Un drama en Livonia" es una intrigante novela de Julio Verne, escrita en 1893. Ambientada en la región histórica de Livonia, que abarcaba partes de las actuales Letonia y Estonia, la trama nos sumerge en un pintoresco paisaje rural donde la tranquilidad se ve perturbada por eventos que cambiarán el destino de los personajes.

Verne, reconocido por su habilidad para crear mundos vívidos, presenta a los lectores una Livonia llena de exuberantes paisajes y personajes entrañables. La historia sigue al protagonista, el profesor Dimitri Nikoliev (de origen eslavo) un personaje complejo, carismático y envuelto en un misterio que abarca oscuros secretos familiares, intrigas políticas y desafíos de una sociedad en constante cambio.

La trama, rica en giros inesperados, mantiene a los lectores inmersos en la búsqueda de los oscuros secretos de Livonia. Verne fusiona hábilmente elementos de drama personal con la grandeza de la historia, ofreciendo una narrativa que va más allá de las expectativas convencionales. La prosa reflexiva de Verne ahonda en las complejidades psicológicas de los personajes, brindando una experiencia literaria enriquecedora.

La novela, considerada inspirada en el caso Dreyfus, aborda temas de inocencia frente a la injusticia. Además, explora el enfrentamiento entre los rusos de origen alemán y los de origen eslavo, destacando las tensiones sociales y culturales de la época.

He leído algunas novelas de Verne, quizá las más clásicas: "La vuelta al mundo en 80 días", "De la tierra a la luna", "Alrededor de la luna", "Cinco semanas en globo", "Veinte mil leguas de viajes submarinos", "La isla misteriosa", "Una ciudad flotante", "El faro del fin del mundo", "la esfinge de los hielos", "El secreto de Mastón", "Dos años de vacaciones", "Un capitán de 15 años" y "Viaje al centro de la tierra"... Todas impresionantes y maravillosas, llenas de imaginación y fascinantes; pero en ninguna me había topado con un Julio Verne sombrío y un poco oscuro, pero también muy interesante. En fin la super recomiendo.

La historia se da en contexto histórico de las Cruzadas Bálticas, y va dando saltos de personaje en personaje, con un narrador en tercera persona. Hace ya mucho tiempo no me entretengo con una lectura con este tipo de observador, pero es refrescante que así haya sido.

No fue un libro sencillo de encarar, de hecho, me mantuve cerca del buscador de Google para poder entender mejor algunos términos y poder acercarme a palabras que eran completamente desconocidas y que, por lo que tengo entendido, ya no se consideran para el lenguaje diario (un ejemplo de este caso es que, en todo el libro, las distancias se miden en verstas)

El desarrollo de personajes es la mayor parte del texto, llegando al verdadero nudo de la historia recién pasando la mitad de páginas. Tengo que destacar, sin embargo, que no me faltaron motivos para saltar de un capítulo a otro. El autor se encarga, muy bien desde el inicio, de plantar la semilla de la duda para que no abandone la historia.

¿Lo recomiendo? Absolutamente. Destaco, obvio, que para leerlo hay que dotarse de paciencia y un ambiente cómodo, porque es un desperdicio no enriquecerse con toda la información de época que regala.

Me encantó saber al final de “Un drama en Livonia”, que mi edición tiene dos historias. Así que ésta reseña quizá tenga segunda parte.

Una novela bastante solida en la etapa final de Verne, si bien no es un argumento demasidao original, por lo menos sigue demostrando como influía la realidad cultural y cientifica de su epoca en su obra.
Aca, la influencia es el caso Dreyfus que impacto fuertemente en toda Francia, al punto de dividir la sociedad, donde un militar era acusado mas por antisemitismo que por ser verdaderamente culpable.
Verne creia que Dreyfus era culpable, pero por lo menos para la ficcion, baraja la posibilidad de que alguien sea injustamente condenado, por basarse en preconceptos y prejuicios. Es decir como una persona es odiada por etnia, religion, ideologia o lo que sea, preferir obviar pruebas porque se quiere que esa persona sea culpable.
Es lo que promete, un Drama en todo su extension. Algo raro en Verne que suele tener finales felices. Muy bien descripto el tema etnico entre Rusos Eslavos y Rusos Gemanos, tiene una estructura muy bien lograda propia de la madurez de este escritor.

On réduit souvent Jules Verne à l’aventure sous les mers où en ballon autour du monde et à une forme d’anticipation de la modernité à venir en le classant un peu vite dans les livres d’adolescences.

C’est passer sous silence une immense qualité des romans de Jules Verne l’intégration du contexte ethnico-politique au cœur de l’intrigue. Impossible de lire Nord contre Sud sans prendre parti pour le Nord anti esclavagiste sans pour autant faire du nord de parfait gentils. De même avec « Un drame en Livonie » ou l’intrigue et l’enquête ne peut faire abstraction de la rivalité germano - slave dans une province en pleine russification et de ses conséquences sur l’administration et la justice.

En résumé lire Jules Verne c’est le plaisir de la grande aventure et de la complexité du monde !

Ieraudzīju bibliotēkas grāmatu stendā Livonijas vārdu, turklāt zem Žila Verna vārda, uz karstām pēdām paņēmu lasīt. Šo degsmi nomainīja dziļa vilšanās un nomāktība. Protams, vēsturiskie notikumi mūsu zemes robežās darīja savu, ietekmējot rietumnieku priekšstatus par Livonijas guberņas iedzīvotājiem, taču iedūra sirdī, ka Verns pa visām 180 lappusēm pieminēja latviešus un igauņus tikai garāmejot, nosaucot tos par "tiem nabadziņiem", nevienu tēlu tā arī neveltot šai pamatiedzīvotāju grupai. Turklāt neuzskatīja par vajadzīgu izpētīt krievu izcelsmes vārdus un uzvārdus, lai tos korekti uzrakstītu, ka tulkotājs arī norādīja. Nu neko. Par detektīva sižetu vismaz bija prieks, ka negarlaikoja.

Questo giallo, una delle ultime opere di Jules Verne, suona come un'intrusione nella sua bibliografia, al mio orecchio. Parte decisamente bene, come un'avventura nelle terre dell'attuale Lituania ed Estonia a carattere politico durante il dominio zarista di fine XIX secolo. Abbiamo un mistero, un fuggiasco, una lotta politica, un delitto. Abbiamo l'indagine, e momenti decisamente drammatici e tragici.
Infine abbiamo una chiusura da deus ex-machina con una ricostruzione che fa acqua. Il giallo non fila, la soluzione è raffazonata e con dei problemi logici non da poco.
Quindi, visto che questo finale scadentissimo rovina il tutto, non più di 2 stelle.

Jules Verne’i sadece bilim kurguyla sınırlamak büyük bir hata; Livonya’da bir Dram, yazarın döneminin siyasi gerilimlerini ne kadar keskin okuduğunu kanıtlayan muazzam bir polisiye. 19. yüzyıl Baltık coğrafyasındaki Slav-Alman çatışmasını merkezine alan bu roman, Agatha Christie’ye parmak ısırtacak bir kurguyla adaletin ön yargılarla nasıl gölgelendiğini işliyor. Karlar altındaki kasvetli atmosferi ve masum bir adamın toplumsal baskıya karşı verdiği onur mücadelesiyle, Verne’in dehasını farklı bir türde keşfetmek isteyenler için tam bir başyapıt.

Η έκδοση που διάβασα ήταν του 1982 και όχι η συγκεκριμένη.

Ήταν μια ενδιαφέρουσα ιστορία, αλλά για κάποιο λόγο δεν μπορώ να της βάλω πάνω από τρία αστεράκια. Ίσως γιατί δεν ήταν τόσο μυστηριώδης; Υπήρχαν κρυφά στοιχεία φυσικά, αλλά όσο περνούσε η ιστορία τα καταλάβαινες και όταν ο Βερν τα παρουσίαζε τελικά σαν πλοτ τουίστ δεν έκαναν και μεγάλη εντύπωση. Ίσως πάλι να είμαι κάπως αυστηρή για μια ιστορία που εκδόθηκε το 1904.

Comprado no terminal de Sete Rios, ansiava por um mundo progressista (imaginado) do qual tão bem Júlio Verne é conhecido. Não o encontrei. Antes sim uma história de leste, onde a rigidez do regime e o platonismo das personagens vigorava. Não foi por isso pior. Mas creio que o género criminal não é o que assenta melhor a Júlio Verne.

Par vēsturisku to var saukt tāpēc, ka nevis ataino tā laika Rīgu un Igauniju (protams, ne, jo autors Latvijā nav bijis, nezina pat nevienas Rīgas ielas nosaukumu), bet dēļ tā, KĀDI viņam un gan jau arī laikabiedriem bija priekšstati par latviešiem, Latviju kopumā... Zvaigznīte par detektīvintrigu arī. Apliecinājums, ka labāk rakstīt par to, ko tiešām labi pārzinām....
