Rate this book
"Just imagine it, Em. His ex-fiancée... dating his favourite hockey player."

******

Zane and I were together for ten years. When he had no one, I stayed by his side, supporting his hockey career while believing at the end of all our struggles, I'll be his wife and the only one at his side. But after six years of dating, and four years of being his fiancée, not only did he leave me, but seven months later I receive an invitation... to his wedding! If that isn't bad enough, the month long wedding cruise is for couples only and requires a plus one. If Zane thinks breaking my heart left me too miserable to move on, he thought wrong! Not only did it make me stronger.. it made me strong enough to move on with his favourite bad boy hockey player, Liam Calloway.

did-not-finish
July 6, 2025
I saw an advertisement for this book on the game MeChat. It originated as a serialized story on those pay by chapter apps. Through sheer dumb luck I still had some coins available on the app Webnovel so I used what I had to read the first 12 chapters.

Fresh out of coins I see that there are still 98 chapters left in the book and it is an ongoing story. I do a few quick calculations and if I want to read all the chapters that are left on the app it will cost roughly $32.00.

My other option is to buy this version for $4.99 which ends in a cliffhanger and then the second installment for $4.99 which also ends in a cliffhanger so I would then have to go back to the app to finish out the published chapters....and the story still isn't complete so more chapters would still need to be purchased until the story is actually complete. So conservatively I am looking at spending at least $20.00 to get up to date. If the story was finished I would probably be ok with paying $20-$25 just to finish it off however it isn't finished so I am cutting myself off before I waste my time and money.

Story Issues:
1. The month long pre-wedding cruise....who would have the time, the money or the desire to attend this?
2. The couple invited the groom's ex to the month long pre-wedding cruise and the wedding. The insane texts the ex sends her inviting her; saying she didn't take the break up well and he wants his best friend back. Where in the world did that come from? Plus what self respecting woman about to be married would be ok with any of that? What self respecting woman would actually go to the wedding of her abusive ex?
3.The relationship contract - It was for a freaking year - that is legitimately insane
4. The Corpse Bride wedding crashing that wasn't actually wedding crashing. That just added to the whole bag of crazy. Was he bi and in love with the groom? Who was Jessica to all these people that it is now awkward for them to interact? What is actually going on with the plot?
5. The best friend is the one who set up the whole crazy relationship contract that is somehow supposed to be good PR for the male lead and somehow help the female lead gets over her ex-fiance of a decade. WTF?
6. The female lead gets irrationally jealous over a man she thinks she hasn't met and is entering into a FAKE relationship with. She also gets mad that he drops her off at home and doesn't contact her for a few weeks.
7. The male lead remembers her from college and used to wish she and her boyfriend would break up but she has no recollection of him whatsoever even though her jerk-hole boyfriend idolized him.
8. The ex is low-key being portrayed as abusive but no one is objecting to her going on a month-long cruise with him and his new fiance? Like really? Her best friend was basically just like I know I can't talk you out of it so lets help me by shoving you into this super unhealthy relationship contract and that totally broken commitment phobic dude will make it all better for you.

Here is how it happens you get sucked into a serialized story and stay up until 3am reading it hoping that the writing quality will get better and everything will end well and then you find out it's an incomplete story that hasn't been updated for a goddamn year and then you realize you spent over $40.00 for this mess that will live rent free in your head forever.

I cannot do that again so I am very firmly not allowing myself to continue on with this book.

This is one that you read in between others, that you find on social media and want to see what happens. It's not the best, but the story is ok. What threw me off was that it was mentioned someone had been pregnant for 12 months! That just seemed pretty weird to me. The story also ends, like, right in the middle of something and we have to buy the other books to continue. I might continue eventually, but right now it's not worth it.

book is not completed!

I started reading on a different reading app but was getting frustrated with all the ads. Found it on kindle for 4.99 which whatever. It seemed like a good story so worth it. But no! There are more chapters available on the ad app and I had already unlocked more chapters than are posted here. Such a waste of money. The story seems like a great story but it needs to be completed before being partially put here for sale.

I thoroughly enjoyed the narrative, albeit Emilia, the female protagonist, occasionally exhibited frustrating behaviour by demonstrating a lack of concern or attention to the information presented to her. The conclusion felt somewhat rushed, and while certain elements were alluded to, certain loose ends remained unresolved. Overall, the story maintained a compelling narrative that kept me on the edge of my seat, eagerly anticipating the unfolding events.

Fun, simple read

I stumbled across this book from a Facebook ad. Didn't have another book I was reading so I figured "why not?" This book is the perfect intro to a little series: we can to know the main players, grow attachments, and develop empathy for Emilia. Easy read but interesting enough to get me excited for book 2!

Book just stops

Just stops on a cliff hanger, hasn’t answered not one plot twist and can’t tell if Liam is bi or who use to deal with who. It should’ve wrapped up some endings before dragging it out to three books.

Love this series and the characters bit slow getting into it but worth the read and couldn’t put it down.

review

I thought the story line was entertaining. The book should have been proof read a time or 2 before publishing. The book also ends on a terrible cliff hanger.

Interesting story.
Zane is horrible.
Liam is complicated, but sweet.
Emelia needs some therapy, and some confidence.
Very abrupt ending, even for book 1 in a series.
