I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC of Traithorn, a novella by Rainelyn, and I’ll admit upfront, this book surprised me in more ways than one.

Now, Traithorn falls into a genre I don’t typically gravitate towards: why choose. I walked in with an open mind, fully expecting to either love it or absolutely hate it, no in-between. What I found was a story that pushed my comfort zone, challenged my preferences, and left me genuinely intrigued by the end. The issues I thought I had with "why choose" did not affect my experience of this book, at all.

The first thing that drew me in was the vibe, eerie, haunting, and full of unspoken tension. The atmosphere was unsettling in the best way, with a thread of mystery running through the entire plot. From the moment Vernon and Celine appeared on the page, I was hooked. There’s something undeniably magnetic about characters who are wicked, shrewd, and a little bit insane. You know they’re going to set everything on fire, and you want to watch it burn.

This novella is told in multiple POVs, which I appreciated deeply. Getting into the heads of all three main characters, Vernon, Celine, and Isolde, gave the story a layered intensity. Isolde, in particular, stood out to me. Her journey, driven by guilt and temptation, felt raw. She knows what she wants is forbidden. She knows it’s “wrong.” And yet, she fights for it anyway. That internal conflict? Deliciously done. Also, while we are on the subject of characters, I would respectfully say, FUCK CASPER.

One of the strongest messages I took from this book is that doing the wrong thing for the right reasons… still has consequences. And even doing the right thing doesn’t guarantee a clean conscience. That moral ambiguity, that murky, grey space, is where Traithorn lives, breathes, and thrives.

And yes, it was steamy. Dark. Taboo. Morally grey bordering on black. But nothing felt gratuitous or misplaced. The spice had a purpose. The scenes were intense and triggering at times, so I highly recommend checking the content warnings before diving in. That said, nothing ever felt like it crossed a line that made me want to stop reading, and that balance is hard to strike.

As someone who doesn’t usually read why choose, I found the short length of the novella ideal. Had this been a full-length novel, I might’ve tapped out. But here? It was the perfect bite-sized experience that left me curious and, surprisingly, open to exploring more of the trope.

Now, my only critique: I couldn’t quite feel for Isolde the way I wanted to. Maybe it’s the limitation of the novella format, but I didn’t connect to her pain or backstory on a level that made me truly sympathize. She was compelling, yes, but emotionally? A bit out of reach for me. I wanted more as to how she was neglected, how she was troubled.

Still, this was a solid 4 to 4.25 stars read. Gripping, morally complex, with characters that sink their claws in and don’t let go. I’m incredibly grateful to Rainelyn for letting me be part of the ARC team. If you’re someone who wants to dip your toes into darker, more taboo waters, and especially if you’re skeptical about the why choose genre, Traithorn might just surprise you the way it did me.

Is obsession an excuse for m^*d3r?
Will their vengeance be their undoing?

Celine and Vernon escape their confinement to seek retribution against our FMC. However, all is not what it seems, as they stalk their prey and send her ‘gifts’. The hunt is on but who will fall first?

This dark gothic read held my attention throughout, the darkness within its pages kept me turning. For me it was a little predictable, this didn’t detract me from finishing it.

What would you do for the woman you love? Would you A. You and your Twin Sister break out of prison that they sent you to B. Unalive multiple people and leave her little gifts leading up to her birthday. C. Unalive her POS boyfriend named Casper or D. All the Above. If you choose D, you are correct this is the correct answer. Traithorn is a dark gothic MFF why choose romance between twin siblings Vernon and Celine who are obsessed with their adopted sibling Isolde. This story’s told through POV of all three main characters therefore we can get into the mindset of them all. Now Vernon and Celine they are not good people they have done bad things and once of those things involved Isolde. This is as the turning point that lead Isolde to betray the two people she loved and sent them to prison. But after years in prison they have returned to Isolde’s life to remind her of the betrayal and who she truly belongs too. Again this story was a super fun, quick and spicy read. If you love Dark Taboo why choose romance especially between adopted/foster siblings then this is a book you need to read!!!

Traithorn by Rainelyn

Please check your trigger warnings and content warnings before reading.

Celine and Veron are locked up and they are getting ready to escape and find Isolde who is the very reason they are locked up. They are ready to find their little Traitor and make her there's again. This time they will stop at nothing to get back to her.

Isolde is in a new relationship with someone who treats her like crap, she doesn't really love him but he fills a void that is missing in her life. Even though she shouldn't she misses the very two people who are in jail.

But when unalivings start happening and things are not what they seem. She starts to feel like she is being watched, she is constantly looking over her shoulders constantly.

This book kept me on the edge of my seat. When I got to the plot twist my jaw was on the ground because I couldn't believe a certain person was involved. I could not put this down because I needed to know what was going to happen next.

Traithorn is a novella and it is holding multiple POVs, I love being able to get into the heads of all the characters. It has spice. It is dark. It has taboo. Morally grey most definitely! Why choose yessss!!!
This isn’t my first read by RAINELYN she’s one of my favourite authors and I had the pleasure of receiving this book and it didn’t disappoint. I was captivated once I started reading I did not put it down. I would recommend Traithorn to everyone who will listen especially if you love a short taboo novella.

ARC REVIEW:

This book was really good! I liked how this book was a short, spicy read too, it’s perfect for one sitting 😊 it’s very well written, provides lots of back story for the characters, and doesn’t have a cliffhanger that leaves you hanging

My first MFF really left a positive note for all the other books that will follow.

I was lucky enough to receive "Traithorn" as an ARC but since I really struggled with Ethereally Tainted this review is honest as hell. Traithorn was the second chance with the author since I really wanted to love her and this book amanaged to do exactly that.

The small town that is set is earily and that transfers through the paper to the reader. I swear I felt a chilly air everytime a snow scene came up and it was so so real. The mix of mystery and the ghosts of the past really helped me catch the feling from the start.

The depth of the characters and the emotions that stirred was too real and too raw. The twins were a favorite of mine from the start, Vernon and his silence really won me over. Isolde, Celine and Vernor all have their own POV's and that helped a lot to understand the emotional reasons behind their actions. Usind the terms "dagger" and "hunter" really added something deliciously twisted to the readind experience.

Isolde wasn't my favorite. Her internal battle felt a bit forced and this is where my last star got lost. I don't thing this was a lenght fault because despite the few pages of the book it felt solid and a complete read. I think just those characters aren't for me. Too much guilt for me too feel it. She knew she wanted the forbidden -not forbidden in my book but in hers- and she guilt tripped herself throughtout the book. Just claim what you want girl.

The finale felt justice. I loved how the author made every action have consequences despite the reason. Yes love makes you do crazy stuff but in literature terms but I love once in a while the actions can cause trouble.

The plot twist guys! I knew one particularly character will be corrupted to the bone but I didn't see that coming. All the kudos!

Overall it was the one book that brought me back from my reading slump thanks to its gothic atmosphere and strong characters and I will be forever in dept to Rainelyn for that.

This is the second book that I've read by Rainelyn and once again I am left
OBSESSED! This story follows Vernon, Celine, and Isolde. Vernon and Celine are twins
and when they were 10, they were adopted by Isodes parents. Years later things took a
turn for the worst and they were both arrested. All three of them used to be super close,
but isolde was the reason they were arrested in the first place. Isolde thinks she is safe
because they are supposed to be locked up for several years, but what will happen
when they come back for vengeance?
This book was so good and I read it in one sitting. I instantly fell in love with the
characters and was so intrigued by what was happening. The spice, chemistry, and
suspense in this book was perfect. There were times that I was on the edge of my seat
waiting to see what would happen next. Vernon and Celine would do any and everything
to make sure Isolde was happy and safe. Although Isolde was still holding on to things
from the past, she eventually got to a point where she could forgive them and it made
me so happy. Each character grew quite a bit in the book and there is definitely a lot of
chemistry between them. The spice was SPICY and it had me blushing the entire time.
This is a short read and if you love why choose like i do then this is perfect for you. This
book does contain dark themes that may be triggering, so please read your trigger
warnings!

this was a dark, twisted, and fast paced read that was really enjoyable! with some of the best tropes, you're sure to be hooked within the first few pages.

the spooky, gothic setting is a staple for this author and she always does it so well, I absolutely loved the vibes. It's so perfect now that autumn is right around the corner.
my favourite thing and what brought the spooky vibes in this novella is the little gifts the twins left for Isolde, the stalking and the gruesome game of cat and mouse. It had me on edge waiting for their next surprise for Isolde.

𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘦; Being a fraternal twin myself, I don't usually go for the trope - and I'll admit to not fully registering it when I signed up for this ARC, it was more of the "the author wrote it, I read it" kinda thing .. but i was relieved at the lack of ick between the twins themselves. I liked that they didn't cross a weird boundary and instead kept each of their focuses strictly on Isolde.

This was a super fast, taboo read. When Isolde’s parents adopt twins, they quickly become obsessed with their new sister and are willing to do whatever it takes to make sure they can keep her. Even if whatever it takes breaks her heart and forces her to put them in jail. But even jail won’t keep them from their little obsession.

I really enjoyed the bones of this story. The suspense and build up was there. It’s a short story so some scenes fly by a bit quickly and I will say I would have loved even more from this story, but what was here was really good! It has the whole gothic, mysterious vibe that was spot on and made you want to find out what was going to happen next. The taboo/ why choose aspect of the dynamic not only being between adoptive siblings but also between the twins (twins with the adoptive sister only) only added to the energy of the book. There were a couple of surprises thrown in there too!

Grateful for the opportunity to arc read this book!

Isolde lost her parents; she knows who killed them, and not only that, she loves the ones who killed her parents, and that's her torment.

I don't usually read MFF, but I enjoyed this one. There's something about Rainelyn's book that is so captivating; the pace of her writing is one that makes you keep reading. This book is of course, a gothic romance. We can say this is Rainelyn's signature topic, and I love it, the atmosphere she's able to give to her books speaks to my heart.

But this book is not just a romance; it has some thriller aspects that keep you hooked wanting to know more. But most of all, it's a book about grief, about losing the people you love and knowing that life won't be the same after that, but despite that, you need to move on with your life. It's about understanding that moving on with your life is not forgetting the people who died, but a way to make them proud.

So, grab your copy, dive into this story, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

"Trauma doesn't forget us. It clings, jarring and relentless, never once letting its grip go."

If you’re looking for a quick, tab0o why choose with some mürder and obsessive characters - look no further. Overall I definitely enjoyed this book and the plot kept me intrigued, though I would’ve loved if it leaned more into the vengeance and g0ry side of things 👀. I enjoyed the characters as well, the FF and group scenes were 🥵. I maybe would have liked to dive further into their relationship but definitely ate up what we were given. I always love a little pr!mal play and this definitely delivered with that 🤭. Rainelyn also delivers on her gothic vibes which is always a fave of mine.

Well done Rainelyn, your way of writing is so different to what I’m used to and it’s amazing how it is.

For the story, wow, what a roller coaster.
Poor Isolde had a crap upbringing after having absent parents and new adopted twin siblings.
Vern and Celina are 2 very odd people, they show odd ways of affection and when they both have an eye on Isolde, things take a turn.
As Isolde grows up, she is living her own life and is in a toxic relationship with a cop (Casper).
The twins eventually come back into Isolde’s life but in doing so, the small town is turned upside down.
Dead bodies start showing up and Isolde is left shaken and thrown back into old memories of the twins.
Will Isolde survive life with her unhinged twin siblings?
What lengths will the twins go to claim Isolde once again?

At 52%, I fell in love with this book. This is the first book I’ve read by Rainelyn and I love her mind and will be checking out her other series after this.

I really love Isolde. She realized very quickly that the twins were back for her. I love the twins, Celine and Vernon. I love that the twins have only wanted to make Issa happy and protected. Everything they did was to keep her safe.

This was a 5/5 read for me. I enjoyed this book so much and it’s everything I imagined it would be. The ending was definitely my favorite and was exactly like I wanted it. Thank you, Rainelyn🫶

This is my first book by Rainelyn. For the most part I enjoyed this Dark Gothic Morally Grey Why Choose story. This is a great story with many twists that kept me on edge and turning the pages. Murder, stalking, she is their obsession their plaything. Isolde thought she could escape her twin step siblings Vernon and Celina. But they will always find her. The ending was unexpected but excellent. It may be wrong but it feels so right.

I just wanted to say that I would have liked to have had more about Isolde and her childhood in the story and a little less about how terrified she was. I felt that part was slightly over exaggerated. But everything else was fantastic. I will not post this last part anywhere else. Just wanted to mention it.

Iwill be reading more of Rainelyn's books. Because I love the darkness 🖤🖤🖤

Traithorn is a gothic, mysterious novella that packs a punch. I devoured this book, and I instantly fell in love with the author's writing. I've been dabbing into more gothic books lately, and this one gave me everything I was looking for. It's why choose, stalker/captive, foster siblings, MFF, and TABOO ( twins).

The story of Vernon, Celine, and Isolde is so spicy and dark and just delicious. The obsession and love between the MMCs are blurred at times, but I wanted more. I was bummed that this story is only 142 pages. Trust me, you're going to want more of these characters after you read this. It's not a bad thing to want more. The author is just that good at building this story and its characters. If you are curious about what a gothic taboo romance story is, I suggest this one. I just want to get lost in Vexglade.

“You’re our poison and our antidote. And we? We’re your devils.”

Isolde thought she was safe with them being in jail and dating the a-hole deputy. Then the countdown begins with lovely bloody gifts. Was it an illusion? Or was the illusion thinking she didn’t need them?

3yrs and now we have escaped to give a little payback to our little traitor.

The Dagger-She is our obsession. You can run..

The Hunter-She is our plaything. But you can’t hide..

Let the chase begin..

Intoxicating novella! Poetically gothic writing with a dash Poe style. Didn’t see that twist coming towards the end. 👀

Wow. Traithorn completely pulled me in from start to finish. I absolutely loved getting all the different POVs, it added so much depth to the story. I was so mad at the boyfriend at times; I just kept thinking, how can he treat her like that?!

There were a few moments where my mouth literally dropped open, and I just sat there like, what just happened?! The twists were so good. But what I loved most was Isolde’s journey. Seeing her go through everything she did and finally find a great place at the end felt so powerful and satisfying.

This book had me feeling all the emotions , anger, shock, heartbreak, and hope. Highly recommend it to anyone who loves dark twists, emotional journeys, and strong female leads.

Her death is mine, her soul is mine. Everything of hers belong to me.

Celine (the dagger) & Vernon (the hunter) are twins. They have both been in prison for 3 years and they finally break out with the help of someone on the outside.
They are on a mission to get to their traitor.

Isolde put Celine and Vernon in prison cause they brutally murdered her parents. Isla is finding black envelopes on her car, her apartment and bodies are coming up. There hasn’t been a murder since her parents’ deaths.

Casper is a policeman and is Isolde’s boyfriend. Don’t like him lol. He starts accusing her of the murders.

For a novella this is packed with spice and twists. Loved this story and can’t wait to read more from Rainelyn.

If you're looking for a spooky, Halloween (with a dash of Christmas) vibed novella complete with stalking, murder and second chance love, look no further!

Isolde's world unravels when twins Celine and Vernon resurface several years after she put them in prison. The Dagger & The Hunter, both seemingly emotionless, except when it comes to her. And they have come to claim what is theirs.

This story is quick but doesn't fall short on character development. Isolde goes through a rollercoaster of confusion, fear and longing when she comes face to face with the twins that were once her salvation, but are now something that haunt her nightmares.

I don't want to give too much away but I promise this book doesn't disappoint!

First off thank you to Rainelyn and Misha Taylor for letting me be a Arc reader for this book.

The writing on this book was chefs kiss. It is perfectly dark with tons of amazing spice. I really enjoyed everything about this book. To be honest, it could have been way longer.

I love all the tension. The way she craved them as much as they craved her. I loved how even after everything, they wanted her and weren’t really mad at her.

If you’re looking for a dark, eerie, haunting, with tons of unspoken intention, and this is definitely the book for you. This book is told in multiple POV’s, but I didn’t find it hard to understand what was going on.

I still don’t really know what to say about this book. First of all, it’s a novella—so a short story, not too deep, and everything moves quickly. Even so, I think it was a good read.

Right at the start, we meet two siblings in prison who escape and set out to take revenge on their stepsister. The story has a great atmosphere—it’s dark, twisted, and spicy.

The world-building was solid, the tension kept me hooked, and the plot twist at the end genuinely surprised me.

Overall, I really enjoyed it and I’ll definitely be continuing with this author’s stories.

I loved this short story gothic why choose dark romance!
The fmc, Isolde has been struggling to overcome her past.. she feels as if it is creeping up on her. And it is, but it’s who is following her and how far they will go to get back to her.
The twins cannot stay away from their little traitor. I also really enjoyed the back story as to how they all know one another and where their relationship ends up after all this time.
Isolde deserves so much better than Casper…
This was so different than what I typically read but i really enjoyed this MFF twins romance!!

Rainelyn’s page turning novella had me curious not only about the character’s present lives but their past as well! While some of the plot I was able to see coming, one plot twist truly got me! The first few chapters do a great job of setting up the main characters and what their motivations are. The spicy scenes felt well written and well paced. I wish there had been more build up in terms of the thriller aspects but I understand that as a novella some pieces are cut due to the length. Give this a read when it releases on July 17th and dive into this chilling dark romance!

Isolde had thought she was safe and had escaped her parents killers. She was in a quiet little town and “dating” the town sheriff, but now stranger little gifts that are numbered are showing up. Is she really safe?

It has been 3 years now and the twins have escaped. Celine and Vernon are ready to get a little payback. They just wanted her happy and to keep her safe and protected.

This way a quick read being a novella. The tension buildup was perfect. And the spicy scene…hot. A dark and twisted why choose. With a twist I didn’t see coming.

This was a quick read for me! Isolde put Vernon and Celine and they get out from prison, the first thing is vengeance. I loved the presents they left her, it added some tension to the story. Her boyfriend Casper doesn't seem to trust her and I completely hate him, he's a terrible person and cop. Vernon and Celine are completely obsessed with Isolde and no one else can have her. I loved the spiciness and darkness to this story, it kept me wanting more. I'm definitely reading more of Rainelyn's work!

This...this....was beautiful 🥺🩵

Isolde is your FMC that yearns to feel alive, to feel loved. Walking life as a ghost has become so tiring. Add in that she has to look over her shoulder? How could anyone live like this?

Celine and Vernon... they will always be there. Their love know no boundaries. They just want the one they are meant to spend eternity with.

I also want to point out. Ew Casper lol

This book was raw, full of emotions, a twist, forgiveness, and love.

Another beautifully done job by Rainelyn 🖤

I’m not big on why choose but I did like this one 👀. The FF scenes were so interesting to read. Plus Vernon, can’t forget our boy 🤭🤭.

Celine is HOTTTT. Dominant and badass. I’d let her order me around. I fear I might prefer her over Vernon. Those two are so possessive of Isolde, and that plot twist just added the right spice. This was such a short read yet so spicy & intriguing.

THE SPICE THOOO 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨 That was a lot to handle. For her and for me aswell. Like the bat use… 👀
