Channel 4's show Gogglebox has become a true TV phenomenon. In its third series, it has struck a chord across the nation. Millions of people are now addicted to watching the much-loved cast's surprising and hilarious commentary on the week in television - and the entertaining and heart-warming insight into their lives and relationships. Gogglebox is not just about TV. It's about what it means to be British, particularities, eccentricties, and all.
Whether it's Leon and June you love, or Stephen and Chris you root for, or the Woerdenwebers or Sandy and Sandra who make you laugh the most, we all have a favourite 'unit' - and you can now read about their views on everything from Jeremy Clarkson's size to the death of Baroness Thatcher, and from the best TV snacks to the most potent cocktails. The World According to Gogglebox tells you everything you've wondered about the characters and more.
This is a great light-hearted companion to a fun tv show. That little bit of background of the people on the show makes them more interesting, but it would have been good to include a bit more information about how the show is made. It's presented as though it's all recorded in realtime, but there are hints throughout the book that they just sit down for one marathon session of recording.
Rev Kate's husband Graham has more to say for himself in the book then I've ever heard him say on the program, although silent Jay of course remains silent even in print.
I love the TV show Gogglebox, so when I saw that there was a book out I was very hyped. This book only took me two days to read, it's funny and very entertaining, I laughed all the way through. I would have loved to have had an opportunity like this. If you enjoy tv and gogglebox, then you can't go wrong with this book. If you're feeling down I'd definitely recommend this book, it will cheer you up in no time.
I have always enjoyed watching the television series. This book was in fact a Christmas present of 2014 and I have just waited until now to read it. I have to agree that it is a great companion read. It's an easy read and I found myself laughing at many points. It's been good to learn a lot more about the families from the show, and the quirky illustrations made me giggle. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the show 'GoggleBox'
Well, if you love Googlebox then this perfect, if you don't watch it, you wouldn't be reading this book in the first place I suppose! Light, easy read with lots of interesting facts about the people that you wouldn't know from watching the show. Find out how couples met, how they got on Gogglebox etc. The illustrations are great, poking fun at the stars in a good, cartoon-like way.
A lighthearted and fervently hilarious companion to the fantastic TV show Gogglebox, The World According To Gogglebox is a laugh-out-loud hardback that, not only jam-packed with quotes, also sheds light on the families' backstories. If you love British TV sensation Gogglebox, you'll love this.
Love the tv series. A little sad Jay has left :( The book is worth a read. It's witty and has some interesting bits and bobs about the families. I must be honest and say I wouldn't pay full price for it. I got mine of ebay for £4. If you can wait I would look out for it in the charity shops.
I love this television series "Googlebox" and this is a great companion read. It is an easy and entertaining. I feel I learnt a lot more about the people who are involved in the show. The illustrations are quirky and funny. I recommend this to anyone who likes Gogglebox.
Love the TV series so much and it was good to get some background info on the 'stars'. My favourite part was seeing old photos of them, I wished there'd been more.
Brilliant book!! I was in stitches laughing from the very first page, the humour definitely comes out in the writing! Definitely a must read for everyone that loves Gogglebox!
Throughout the Coronavirus pandemic there has been one program that has kept me grounded, kept me sane and kept me laughing and that is Gogglebox. I came to Gogglebox late (series 15 – I know, I’m an idiot) but whilst being on lockdown I watched every episode I could get access to (series 7 – 15) and I honestly could watch them all over again.
The book The World According to Gogglebox is brilliant because you find out at bit more about the beloved families on the show, their likes and their dislikes and you see the dynamics between the family and realise that they are just the same as they are when you watch them in your telebox. The only negative that I can find about the book is that some of the more recent families and characters are not in this book. Therefore I think an updated version would be brilliant (hint hint!).
For a real tonic watch Gogglebox and then read the book The World According to Gogglebox because it is brilliant.
The World According to Gogglebox by Jason Hazeley and Joel Morris is available now.
A very lighthearted and fun read. It gives background to the people who appeared on the show and insight to how the show is made, and how they came to be on the show.
Gogglebox? More like gigglebox m8. Reading this makes me feel like one of those pricks that unironically says things like "Cheeky nandos! Banter lads!". Anyway...
This is a nice, light read. Pretty funny too. The great thing about this is that you can just dip in anywhere and read. Fuck linear narratives. 10 stars. Best book I've ever read, although I was devastated to find out that Stephen and Christopher aren't actually dating. It lost 2 stars for that.
