Sweet, Texas #5

Truly Sweet

Rate this book
Candis Terry returns to Sweet, Texas for the last time when former Marine Jake Wilder discovers how truly sweet love can be.

"When the one you've always wanted "

At sixteen, Annabelle Morgan hoped her crush on Jake Wilder was just a passing phase. Now she's twenty-nine and nothing has changed except Jake. The once-carefree marine has come home with a giant chip on his shoulder. He insists a single mom like Annie deserves more than he can offer. Yet no matter how gruff his gorgeous exterior may be, Jake's toe-curling kisses convince her that this attraction is definitely mutual.

"Becomes the one who wants you back "

Butting heads with feisty Annie was always a thrill. Add other body parts to the mix, and Jake is in serious trouble. He can't be a forever-and-family guy and Annie's not a friends-with-benefits kind of woman. But love has a way of changing the best-laid plans, and surrender has never been so tempting.

"The outcome is truly sweet."

5 Sweet, Sweet, Texas Stars!

I've loved every book in this series and didn't want it to ever end, but Candis Terry did the Wilder family proud with this final story. I laughed, I sighed, I fanned myself, and I cried, and I will miss the people and the town of Sweet, Texas!

"...I deserve to be more than a one-night stand. More than just a cheerleader. More than just someone who pays the bills, cooks, and cleans. More than a doormat. I deserve to give myself to someone who’s willing to give himself back to me. One hundred percent..."

Jake Wilder was all of the above.

What a great book to close out this sweet series. This time it is the youngest Wilder who gets his HEA with Annie, sister of the heroine from the 2nd book and a single mom. The heroine always had a terrific crush on the two year older hero but after having been walked on with a man who left her pregnant she is all about raising her son right. I really liked Annie, she was spunky, independent and sweet and didn't let the hero, discharged from the army wallow in his guilt and grief over the loss of his friends. I liked how she helped him without being too pushy. The hero had a lot to deal with his guilt, uncertainty over the future and his sudden attraction to the heroine. I liked how he took his time realising that he could be the guy for the heroine. I loved seeing all the siblings together at the end with their well earned HEA.

Sweet, Texas by Candis Terry has become one of my favorite contemporary romance series. I can always count on her books to make me feel relaxed and happy. I love that they're not super angsty reads, and the small town vibe and genuine characters never fail to make me feel at home in their world. From the beginning I've been looking forward to Jake's story. He's the youngest Wilder and is finally home from the military. An injury and the death of his best friend has left him drowning, but Annabelle is there to help bring his world back to rights. Growing up together, they had a sort of bickering, antagonistic relationship (which is still present, and very much a source of fire for their romance), but there's also unrequited love on Annabelle's side. It's amazing that, despite her fear that he will never look at her with desire and love, Annabelle is determined to support him and show him how much she cares. She's got a fierce attitude, which is exactly what Jake needs. My heart broke for him because he's so torn up about what happened during the war. At the same time, you know his guilt is misplaced and you just want him to heal. The chemistry between the pair, while not as smoking hot as some of the others, is still wonderful. It was very easy to root for them.

I can't recommend this series enough to readers who have read all of the Jill Shalvis and Lisa Kleypas romances out there. You'll find yourself falling in love with the town of Sweet and those swoony Wilder boys. Fans of the series will also be very happy at the appearance of a certain character we've been waiting for; the ending with him had me tearing up big time!

We met Jake and Annabelle in earlier books and I was delighted to get their stories. Annabelle Morgan returned home to Sweet down on her luck and pregnant. The town and Wilder family took her under their wing. She is working at the local diner and living in her sister’s home while she raises her son Max.

Jake was injured during a mission in Afghanistan that went terribly wrong. He had planned on a career with the Marines but his injury has changed all that. He is trying to put on a brave face for his mother and brothers but guilt over the loss of some of his men troubles him. Craving a greasy burger, he stops at the local dinner and runs into Annabelle (Annie). In high school, the two of them confided in each other and teased each other relentlessly. I loved the banter between them and right away felt their connection. Jake has never thought about Annie as a woman but the way she fills out her jeans now- there is no denying it.

Annie has always been half in love with Jake, and seeing him suffering pains her, but a few rolls in the hay to soothe his wounds is not in the picture; not with Max to think about. I loved the slow building romance that unfolded. It was a mix of sweet and heat laced in humor and tenderness. Their emotions felt genuine and I quickly found myself rooting for them. Terry has a gift for creating couples that readers can relate to. We see growth in both Annie and Jake as they grow closer and I enjoyed their journey.

As the final book Truly Sweet has secondary storylines to tie up loose ends. The author updates us on the other brothers and of course we had to see Mother Wilder get her happy. Terry did a wonderful job of bringing it all together.

Talk about a roller coaster of emotions...Candis Terry near bout tore my heart to shreds with TRULY SWEET! Between the laughter and the tears, I found a beautifully written romance about healing and finding something/someone who makes you feel whole again. Jake and Annie really did a number on my heart!

I have to say first of all, to my contemporary readers, if you have not yet started the Sweet Texas series, you MUST get started today! Not that the stories get better and better, because they are all equally terrific, but they consistently grab your heart and before you know it, you are the newest member of the Wilder family. I know Reno holds a special place in my heart, and he always will, and Jesse's book, well....it was my dedication book, so it will always mean the world to me, but Jake's book just took me for a loop. I was thinking Candis would end things with a funny, charming romance between two people who argue a ton, but find they are two pieces of a puzzle, and YES, we do get the charming Jake and the "Pistol" Annie, but Candis takes them on such a journey of discovery first, and I have to say, TRULY SWEET might have taken the cake for my favorite of the Sweet Series.

An amazing finish to such a heartwarming, sexy and always charming series! The Wilder Family will stay with me for a LONG LONG time, and I can't wait to see what Candis has in store next!

What happens when Candis Terry combines a tough as nails, wounded marine with sweet single mom… you get an amazing, sweet and endearing romance to get utterly lost in.

From start to finish, the Sweet, Texas series has been a delightful journey. Truly Sweet is pure icing on this heartwarming proverbial cake!

Swoon worthy, emotionally engaging and completely realistic characters, Truly Sweet was the perfect contemporary romance read.

Truly Sweet is the last book from Candis Terry's Sweet, Texas series -- and this basically a story about returning home and making it there after life gets you down. Marine Lieutenant Jake Wilder returns to Sweet, Texas after being honorably discharged -- he suffered injuries from his last mission in Afghanistan, which killed his best friend, Eli. While single mother Abby Morgan is back in Sweet since his no-good boyfriend left her when she was pregnant with their baby. So in a way, both Jake and Abby are trying to build their life again.

I found Annie to be my favorite among all of the women -- despite being slapped by life when she found herself with a baby and a missing boyfriend, Annie decides that she would not easily give up. I truly loved her determination; especially regarding Jake. Annie had a crush over Jake since they were only teenagers, and now that Jake is back in town, the crush has slowly transformed into love. What makes Annie a champion in my book is how she can see right through Jake. Annie understands Jake; she she knows him even more than Jake knows himself. Annie challenges Jake; she refuses to let Jake gives half of what he could give... and she sees what Jake needs to do for them to finally have a relationship...

... this isn't about me understanding. This is about your life. You keep taking two steps forward and one step back. For your own good, you need to keep moving forward. You have to figure this out. Trying to push it back isn't working...

Jake isn't too bad either -- well, when he doesn't frustrate me that is :). However, I also know that there IS such thing as survivor's guilt. Jake feels that he cannot keep the promise to his best friend (who died during their assignment) and this scars him. While this theme might be used quite often in regards to military characters, but at the same time Jake's inability to fully commit feels more believable for me compared to the other men in the previous books. Jake has a baggage and he must face it before he could open love fully. The part where he did brought tears to my eyes. It was a bit heartbreaking but hopeful at the same time.

I loved the chemistry between Annie and Jake -- they bicker wonderfully, that's for sure. Added with an adorable one-year-old baby and a dog named Hank, I thought the book as a satisfying closure to the series.

I think this is absolutely my favorite story of the bunch. In the 5th book in the series, and the final one if I’m not mistaken, we’re finally introduced to the youngest Wilder in the bunch. Jake is back from the war with an honorable discharge and a some horrible survivors guilt weighing him down. Upon his return, he’s faced with the fact that he isn’t quite sure what he wants to do with his life.

Annie has had a crush on Jake for ages… but he was unattainable in high school and now that he’s back, as much as she wants him, she has a baby that takes precedence to any and everything … even Jake Wilder.

Jake isn’t going to take no for an answer though … not with the scorching chemistry that they have. He just has to figure out how to let go of the past and his guilt and Annie just might be the perfect person to show him.

As I said, I really enjoyed Jake and Annie’s story here. The drama wasn’t over the top and I completely appreciate being able to sit down and read a book without the author wanting to rip my heart out and eat it for breakfast. If you love low-angst contemporary romance then you should be reading this series.

Jake is actually everything I was hoping he would be. Like his brothers he’s dedicated to his family and friends, but he’s struggling and it was hard to see him flounder back at home because of the overwhelming guilt he was feeling, but it was completely understandable. And Annie… I loved how fierce and determined she was. I think a big part of loving this story so much was because I understand her situation. Truly being the one and only person that small human has to count on and knowing you’ll do whatever you need to make their life amazing … I get that. I know her situation, so that made her story all that much more personal. Maybe one day I’ll find my ‘Jake Wilder’ too.

Fans of Kristin Higgins and Jill Shalvis definitely need to have these on their radar since it’s got that similar small town setting, characters you can’t help but connect with and cheer for, and of course some super hot men!
Thank you to the publisher for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest thoughts.

**I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher Avon via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review. The expected publication date is July 28th 2015**

This is the second book in this series that I have read and I must admit that I have not read it in order. I read the third book Something Sweeter and then this one which is the fifth book (with a few novellas thrown in between). These stories can be read as stand alones however there is mention of the previous characters and storylines as the series focuses on a group of brothers, each with his own story.

I must say that there must be something in the water in Sweet Texas to have such a group of good looking, I'll say it hot, men. I can't imagine what that would do for the productivity of a small town with so many woman daydreaming about these hot men. I am sure the morale would be great with the odd cat fight thrown in as the woman battle for their affection. I digress.

I find that Terry's writing never leaves me disappointed. She builds strong likeable people in both her male and female characters which makes it easy to be invested in the story. In the case of Annie and Jake, the way they constantly butted heads had me smiling. It reminded me of my husband and I. We never fight but we are constantly challenging each other and get in to the best debates. Same goes here.

Warning...you kind of know how the story will end up. Let's get real, this is the last story of the series, there is a theme here. What you don't know is how it will get there and that is where you buckle up and enjoy the ride.

I enjoyed this story, as well as the others from the series I have read and I would recommend it. Since I enjoy her writing style I will venture to see some of Terry's other works.

I have so much love for this series and finishing it was a very bittersweet moment for me. Candis Terry has created such a beautiful series that is filled with heart and soul. I have fallen in love with the Wilder clan and their significant others and friends. I am so pleased with the way all of the storylines have been resolved as there were a few that spanned a few books. I was hoping Annie would be the one to wrangle Jake's heart and sure enough, she was!

I really enjoyed this story, but I have to admit Jake drove me a bit crazy. His story is one we've seen before in romance, so it's not overly original, but it still packs an emotional punch. Jake is a former Marine, and after failing to save his best friend and some other men in his unit, he has survivors guilt and doesn't feel like he deserves to move forward and be happy with his life. He is attracted to Annie, but his guilt is always at the forefront of his mind and just when he gives in a little, he pulls way back and puts her in the friend zone.

Annie has always had a crush on Jake, but she never thought he really noticed her. Having grown up with two absentee parents who didn't have any investment in their kids, Annie flees to Seattle and ends up living with an aspiring musician who gets her pregnant and then ditches her. I felt for Annie, because she feels like people walk out on her and even after she confesses this to Jake, he ends up doing the same because he can't get a handle on his emotions.

Once Jake finally decided to go after Annie and make her his, I felt much happier because I really thought they made a great pair. They bicker and fight, but they also confide in one another. I liked seeing this dynamic first because it really solidified their relationship for me. And man, do they have some sexy times. And some incredibly sweet ones. I adored seeing Jake with Max and Hank, his new dog. There were a few scenes in this book that actually made me tear up- that's how much of an emotional impact it had.

The epilogue was perfection, as it was told in Mama Wilder's voice and it gave me all the warm and fuzzies to see her reflect upon her life and how her kids are settled and happy. It was a great ending to a wonderful series and I am beyond excited for Terry's next series, which is set in Oregon's wine country!

In this final book in the Sweet, Texas series, we see the wonderful dynamic in the relationship between Annie and Jake. They had been buddies growing up, Annie's like the little sister he didn't have. But Annie has been nursing feelings for Jake for years, and the fear over his injuries really solidifies her feelings in her mind - she decides that she's not going to let her fear of rejection keep her from letting Jake know how she feels - she realizes that life is too short for those types of fears.

The author does a fantastic job of depicting a soldier suffering from PTSD and survivors guilt. His survivors guilt is so strong that it influences everything he is doing in his life, including his budding feelings for Annie. He feels incredibly unworthy of happiness in his life due to the loss of his best friend and the misguided guilt he feels over living when his friend died. The author's depictions of the emotions experienced by a soldier experiencing these emotions was realistic and emotionally wrenching for the reader.

Annie also epitomizes delightful character development, as she is a single-mom who struggles with every day living as a single mom, but eternally grateful for the gift she had been given in her son. She rarely demonstrates the "woe is me" attitude you often see in single moms in stories - she relishes every experience she has with her son and sees being a mother to Max as the most important job she has. The author provides a realistic view of life as a single mom - struggling from time to time with basic necessities but fiercely loyal to her child nonetheless.

But let's not forget the love story. the love story develops throughout the story, often derailed by the PTSD feelings Jake is harboring, or Annie's concerns over getting involved as a single mother, or even well meaning family and friends who aren't sure Jake and Annie should end up together. But it seems that Annie is just what Jake needs to help him see what he needs to see about the future, and do what he needs to do to heal and move forward - hopefully with her. Their happily-ever-after has such a feel-good feeling since he is the last one standing.

Fabulous small-town romance featuring a super handsome and super sweet ex-Marine, a strong heroine, a cute toddler and fantastic side characters - including an adorable dog!
There is romance, there is laughter, there are tear-jerking moments and there are hot scenes. This book is the perfect mix of all the elements of a good romance book, perfectly delivered by an expert writer's mind.
Just like the other books, there are parts in the book that are definitely not sweet (they actually get kinda steamy) but all in all, emotions are what the story focuses on and you will definitely feel the warmth envelope your heart and leave you all fuzzy and happy.
Sometimes I come across books that give me a hard time when I have to write a review, because they're so good I don't know how to convey my feelings to the people who'll be reading my review. Well, Truly Sweet is one of those books.
No words could really explain the way you'll feel once you've finished reading it.
All I'm going to say is: pick up this book and you won't be disappointed.
If you like small-town romance, this book is a must read. It works perfectly as a standalone, but I'm sure once you've finished it, you'll one-click all the previous books.
If you've read the previous books, it goes without saying you must read this final instalment in the lives of the people of Sweet.

War changes a man, and this wasn’t any different for Jake Wilder. After being honorably discharged he’s back in Sweet, Texas trying to figure out what to do with his life. While his family and friends are all settling down and popping out babies, Jake feels that he shouldn’t hope for a future like that. He’s plagued with guilt after his best friend dies, and Eli will never have the chance to meet his son.

Though things definitely complicates when he runs into Annabelle Morgan. She is not the girl he remembers, but while he was overseas, has turned in a stunning woman. They pretty much grew up together, and Annabelle is considered part of the family, though Jake never saw her as anything more, until now.

Annabelle has had her own drama, and now being a single mom her focus is on her son. Though she might have had a crush on Jake since they were kids, even now she almost doesn’t dare to hope for more. Still attraction is sizzling, it’s just a matter of convincing Jake that he deserves to be happy.

Truly, Sweet was a great conclusion to the series. The last Wilder son getting the chance to find his happily ever after. It’s certainly not easy for Jake, but I loved how patient Annabelle was with him and how well her advice helped. She is one smart cookie.

That family and small town dynamic is one I adore, and it comes bursting out here. With Jake’s return, their mom getting remarried, growing families, all this just makes you happy. I could not get that smile of my face for the entire book.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

Jake returns home after an honourable discharge from the marines. He is struggling to deal with the death of his best friend in an incident that saw him injured. Annie is a single Mum who has been in love with Jake since she was a teenager. Now, for the first time, Jake actually notices that Annie is a woman.

Truly Sweet is aptly named. This is such a feel good romance. We get to watch two really good people come together. Annie is patient and honest with Jake while he recovers and takes time to realise that he wants Annie. Truly Sweet is entertaining and funny and even though it does deal with some serious issue I only cried happy tears.

This is the final book in the Sweet, Texas series and the author wraps it up nicely but it can be read as a stand alone.

"Truly Sweet" is just that...Truly Sweet! I adored both main characters - Annie - a single mom working to survive and who has had a crush on Jake for forever. And Jake, a wounded Marine - both physically and emotionally. At times, I just wanted to smack Jake in the back of the head as he would frustrate me a bit, but realized he had his reasons. Annie was a doll. They are exactly what the other one needs. I enjoy stories of the heroine saving the Hero, but not in the traditional way. Ms. Terry has written a story that has laughter, grief, heartache and fun. It's an engaging tale that grabbed me and kept me till the end. This is the last book of the series. I have read others in the series but not all. However, for me, it didn't seem to matter. That said, I would highly recommend, not just Truly Sweet, but the series as I've enjoyed the ones I've read and have every intention of completing the series soon! (received copy for honest review)

Truly Sweet is the phenomenal ending to the incredible Sweet, Texas series - and the best was definitely saved for last. This story grabbed me from the very first paragraph and never let go until the very final words, making me laugh in places and cry in others. I fell in love with both Jake and Annie. Jake is the perfect Alpha hero, a little battered and bruised but finding his way back to himself after a hell of a ride. Annie is the perfect heroine - sweet and sassy, someone who can give as good as she gets. I am sad to see the series go, but love how neatly all of the storylines are wrapped in a little bow. I cannot wait to see where Ms. Terry takes us next!

Jake and Annie, Candis saves the best for last. The Wilder family has been the best family to read about for me in awhile. The characters are written so well that it feels like you are living with them in their lives. I'm so sad that the Sweet Texas series is over but I cannot wait to keep reading books that Candis writes.

I wanted to give all the books in this series another go before I unhauled. Unfortunately, I'm just not getting into them. I think they just feel busy. I have a couple of more I'll try, but I think this is a case of the writer's style not meshing with what I enjoy in romance novels. DNF.

Terrific ending to the Sweet, Texas series. This is the story of Jake, the youngest of the Wilder boys. Like his brothers before him, Jake joined the Marines and expected to make a career of it. Instead, he was injured in a mission that went wrong, losing his best friend in the same battle. Now he's home, trying to pick up the pieces of his life, but sinking under the crushing guilt he feels over his friend's death. The last thing he expects is to start seeing his old friend Annie as the beautiful woman she is.

Annie has had a crush on Jake since she was sixteen. Even leaving Sweet for a few years did nothing to reduce her feelings for him. Now she's back in Sweet, with a toddler son and trying to get her own life back together. Jake's return brings back all her old fantasies about him.

I loved the relationship between Jake and Annie. They had been friends when they were younger, able to talk to each other about anything. As they got older the relationship changed, as Jake got a bit on the wild side and Annie had no trouble calling him out when he was being a jerk. Annie hates the changes she's seen in him since he got back, but refuses to coddle him. Jake has always seen her as just his friend until his first encounter with her after his return. Suddenly he sees her as a woman and his attraction to her freaks him out.

I hurt for Jake as his guilt over his friend's death has affected the way he looks at his life now. Before it happened, he was a fun loving guy who loved his family, was great with kids, and had plans for his future. Now, every time he's around kids all he can think about is that his friend is not going to see his child grow up. Jake is so eaten up with guilt that he hasn't even been able to visit his friend's widow, and that makes him feel even worse. He's attracted to Annie and could have feelings for her if he'd allow it, but feels that he's too broken to give her what she deserves. Fortunately for him, she's not ready to give up on him.

I loved Annie. In spite of all the things that have gone wrong in her life she refuses to give in to it. She is determined to be a good mother to Max and give him the best life she can. She also doesn't put up with any crap from Jake. She can see that he is hurting and challenges him to take control of his life. She can also see that he is just as attracted to her as she is to him.

I enjoyed seeing the changes in their relationship. Jake is, at first, more interested in just the physical attraction to Annie, but also realizes that she's not booty call material. Annie wants him just as much as he wants her, but isn't going to settle for less than she feels she deserves. I really enjoyed seeing how she knew just when to push Jake and when to back off to make him see what he needed to do. There were several fantastic examples of this, my favorite being when she talked him into going to the animal shelter to look at dogs. Eventually her love for him gave Jake the confidence to face his demons. His visit with his friend's widow was incredibly emotional. I loved his big moment at the end when he was finally able to offer all of himself to Annie.

I also loved the closeness of the Wilder family. All of the guys served their time in the Marines, and each one was affected by it. This gave them another bond with each other because each understood what the others had experienced. I really enjoyed the teasing that went on with the knowledge that serious support was always available if needed. One of my favorite characters was the Wilder's mother, Jana. With the experience of raising all those boys she had a wonderful way of cutting through the testosterone and making her point. It was lovely to see her get her own happy ending. There was an unexpected surprise on her wedding day and it was heartwarming to see the effect it had on everyone.

I have loved every moment of this series. Well, the couple full length and novellas I've been able to read (no worries, all the others are in my possession and I'm excited for the day I can pick them up! Soon, I hope).

The Wilder clan is one to fall in love with, there is no doubt about it. I have to say, though, it's definitely baby brother, Jacob Wesley Wilder, that has stolen my heart and then some -- too bad a little Annie does that, too.

Jake has a lot of battles to get through in his story, the biggest one being survivor's guilt. His best friends died over seas, and all he has to bring home is a bum leg. Granted, his bum leg has him relying on a cane far more than he'd like to admit, but he didn't have a wife at home, he didn't have a kid or baby on the way.

Coming home to his family is one thing, but coming home to the hero's welcome that his town and mother put on is a bit much. However, being raised well by his mother and father, he accepts the party and is cordial.

Annie has had a crush on Jake for as long as she can remember. When growing up, her parents weren't around often and as such, she and her sister spent a lot of time with the Wilder family. Jake never noticed Annie much, but eventually they found one another to talk to. When Annie left town to find herself, Jake didn't give it two thoughts and in a way, forgot about her.

Seattle wasn't nice to Annie, and she came home a single mother -- not that she'd trade her son for the world. If there's one thing Annie is good at, it's being a mother to Max.

If there's another thing Annie is good at, though, it's bickering with Jake.

I loved every moment of Annie and Jake's growing relationship. Jake has finally noticed Annie as a woman -- but beyond that, he notices her as a good person. He likes Annie and he likes her son, but it takes him some time to get comfortable with Max. Heck, kids in general. They all remind him of his best friend, Eli, and the wife and baby in her belly that he didn't get to go home to.

Annie and Jake bicker all of the time, but rather than being annoying, it's cute and fun -- it's simply Annie and Jake. They force the other to come out of their shell and accept the hand fate dealt them each. Jake has a lot of grieving to do in this book, and Annie was definitely the one to help him through it all. She forces him, gently mind you, to accept what he was given in life, and in doing so, he finds forgiveness in himself -- even if it takes another little woman and a tiny baby to do it.

I enjoyed catching up with the rest of the fam, including the extended family (the ones that aren't really blood, but once you're part of the Wilder clan, there's no going back) -- I even teared up quite a bit when the oldest Wilder, the late Jared, gets his own kind of happy ending. Like I said... once you're part of the Wilder clan, there's no going back.

While Sweet is no closing (oh, this makes me so sad), Candis Terry will be bringing us a new family soon, the Kincade brothers. I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for those boys.

Who doesn’t love a determined woman, especially when combined with sweetness and sass?

Annie Morgan has been in love with Jake Wilder since she was sixteen but unfortunately for her, he’s never noticed her as more than a mouthy, sassy younger friend of the family. Now he’s back home after an injury ended his career with the Marines, he better watch out because she has plans for him.
Back home after an injury sidelines his Marine career and feeling guilty over the loss of his men in Afghanistan, all Jake wants is space to figure out the next step so his sudden awareness of Annie as an attractive woman is unexpected.

Annie understands loss and its various forms, having been abandoned by the father of her son when she found out she was pregnant, so she empathizes with Jake and is willing to support him while he deals with his feelings. Annie is an amazing character because of her upbeat and optimistic outlook at life. She has taken the bad hand life dealt her and made something good out of it and even though she won’t give up on Jake, she knows what she wants from him and won’t settle for second best. She’s in love with Jake and open about it. She’s fierce, tenacious and definitely someone to have in your corner.

“I’m here for you, Jake. I don’t want to be your booty call—the one you think of when the bar closes, and there’s no one else around. But I want to be here for you because your heart and soul need me.”

Like his elder brothers, Jake is dedicated to his family and friends which makes the loss of his friend and team mates so hard for him. A chance at happiness with Annie is something he doesn’t want to pass up so he’s willing to do whatever it takes to keep her and I had tears in my eyes seeing such a strong guy finally break down and cry about the loss of his friend.

I loved reading TRULY SWEET because it has what I love in my books – characters who know what they want and go for it, without all the angst-filled drama, family, friends, babies and second chances and Annie and Jake had me rooting for them.

I have enjoyed reading the Sweet, Texas series because of the interesting and varied characters Ms. Terry created and the small town vibe she captures so well – friendly but nosy townspeople and the requisite gossipy neighbors, but not in an intrusive or annoying way and TRULY SWEET is my favorite.

I might've been late to the party that is Candis Terry's Sweet, Texas series, but I fell for this series hard and fast. I loved the small-town setting and the cast of characters. I'll definitely credit this series with my foray into the world of mass market paperback adult contemporary romance. I'm totally addicted now.

After four books and a novella about the Wilder boys and the town of Sweet, Texas, I was SO VERY READY for Jake's story. I'm a sucker for a military hero and a second chance romance, so I was thrilled to find both in this book. I absolutely adored both Jake and Annie. My heart broke for him and the guilt he was carrying around after his time in combat. He was such a good guy and it was so easy to want better for him. I wanted him to find a way to deal with his guilt and live his life again. I knew he could do that with Annie. I loved this woman. She was so strong and determined, yet sweet and caring. She was a great mom. I loved how she fought for Jake. Their past was messy, but she never stopped loving him, even if she did push him away. Watching them work their way back together was wonderful. It was low on angst, big on heart and had me feeling all the feels. It was romantic and sexy and tugged at my heartstrings.

I love standalone series. In most cases, I lack the patience to wait two or three books to get to the happily ever after for ONE couple. I much prefer a quick, sweet romance that gives me all the feels. Also, with standalone series you tend to get updates on your favorite characters from earlier on as the new books come out. Since the characters I read tend to stick with me and I always want to know more about them once they're together, I love this. Candis definitely gave us a glimpse of the previous couples from the series in this book and it totally warmed my heart. And one of the biggest standouts for me was how she introduced a new and important character into the mix and made him part of the Wilder family. Of course, I'm talking about Peter, the man Jared was in love with before his death. Ooooooooh boy did I get all emotional when he was brought into the clan. (I'm doing it again now just as I type this review, as a matter of fact.) SO MANY FEELS.

To me, Truly Sweet was utter perfection. I laughed and cried and, as much as I hate to say goodbye to this series, I'm so incredibly happy with how it all wrapped up. The epilogue was pure gold. I can't imagine a more perfect ending. If I could give this book more than five stars I would.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher, via Edelweiss, in exchange for an honest review.

Review of 2022:

Jake Wilder is the brother who stayed in the Marines the longest. He thought he would be a lifer but fate had other plans for him. Losing friends and being injured in Afghanistan led him to be honorary discharged and trying to reajust to civilian life while feeling guilty for what happened.

Annie Morgan has known Jake for almost all her life. They've been some kind of frenemies. Always bickering but also confiding in each other. Maybe now that he's back for good she could talk to him about the crush she had on him and feelings that are growing stronger every day.

After a complete reread of the series I'ld say this book is my second favorite (book 1 being the best). Both MC are so touching and I love their fun and sexy chemistry. Since I didn't mention her in my other reviews, I want to take a minute to talk about the brothers's mama who play a big part in the series. She's nice and welcoming and she have a knack for playing matchmaker in her sons's lives but without being the overbearing type. Last but not least, thanks to all the dogs and animals throughout the five books who never failed to put a smile on my face.

Review of 2016:

This is the last book of the series and I thought the author did great with the way she ended it even if I would have prefer more time be allowed to meet Jared's sweetheart.

I know it' s very cliché to say because it's part of the title but the word that come to mind for this book is sweet.

But first it was sad to see Jake feeling so guilty about his friend's death but it was just that more satisfying to see him overcome the tragedy and to see him open his heart again and accept to be loved too.

I still hesitated between two scenes to call my favorite. There was this one when our two protagonist are playing prince and damsell in distress in the tree house and there was the one when Jake's mother tell him :"I wanted all my babies to have their happily ever after".

There's one thing I didn't like (but I don't enjoy this kind of thing no matter what the book). I'm just so tired when the bastard/bitch ex come back again. And in this case, it brought absolutely nothing to the story.

By the way, am I the only one who thought it difficult to believe that Jesse the vet didn't notice what was happening with Miss Giddy the goat ?
