Welcome to Quillhaven, where candy carries enchantment and secrets are as sweet—and sticky—as caramel.
When Sophie Vanora inherits her great-aunt’s candy shop, Sugar Spells, she’s expecting powdered sugar and peppermint bark—not magical confections and mysterious break-ins.
But when her aunt’s secret recipe book of enchanted sweets vanishes, and an ominous note reading Lullaby and good nightis left behind, Sophie knows this is more than petty theft.
Someone is after the magic—and they don’t intend to play nice.
With the help of quirky townsfolk, a pair of mischievous feline detectives named Leo and Luna, and a skeptical police chief who’s easier on the eyes than on the explanations, Sophie must uncover who’s after the town’s magical secrets—before her own story takes a dangerous turn.
Who stole the enchanted recipe book, and what secret power lies behind the Lullaby Caramels?
And can Sophie unwrap the truth before Quillhaven’s sweetest magic is lost forever?
If you love cozy mysteries with a dash of magic, a sprinkle of sweetness, and a side of sleuthing, you’ll adore this magical cozy mystery!

First, let me say that I was totally captured in the first three pages of this book. It is seldom that you find an author who takes the time and has the skill to create a setting like Tessa Silver does. As an ARC reader, my responsibility was to check for any spelling errors that might have been overlooked in previous editing, but, in all honesty, I was so quickly engrossed in the beauty of the writing and the intrigue of the story that I had to keep reading sections over again to bring my critical eye back online. I can honestly say that I would have read this book straight through, without stopping, had it not been for the necessities of day-to-day life. I have read a lot - and I do mean A LOT - of mysteries, cozy and otherwise, over the years, but few have captured me with both storyline and quality of writing as did Sugar Spells & Secrets.
SUGAR SPELLS & SECRETS is the fourth installment in the Quillhaven Magical Cozy Mystery series by Tessa Silver. This story has quirky characters and light-hearted fun had me hooked from beginning to end. There are enough twists and turns to keep things interesting. Luna and Leo keep this story going with their snarky comments that only a cat could deliver.
When Sophie Vanora inherited Sugar Spells candy store from her Aunt Bea, she remembered all the fun times she had as a child with her aunt. She just didn't remember magic as part of the town. Her first day in town and her aunt's precious book of magical recipes is stolen. Then, the recipe for the Lullaby Caramels is twisted into killer caramels, causing some people to die. Sophie, with Luna's and Leo's help, guide Noah Chandler, the Quillhaven Chief of Police, through the magical area of the investigation. Their investigation has them battling killer caramals, finding stolen magic, and restoring the magical balance to Quillhaven.
Don't miss the surprise when Sophie and Noah hear the cats talk for the first time😅. I think Sophie and Noah may be sweet on each other❤️. You'll also quickly find that Luna and Leo are the true sleuths in this mystery. I thoroughly enjoyed this quick and fun story and am looking forward to more stories featuring Leo and Luna. They add a truly fun twist to everything with their snark.

Sophie Vanora has inherited her Great-aunt Beatrix’ candy shop called Sugar Spells. This is the first time she is back to Quillhaven in years, but she remembered how wonderful it was to work recipes with her Aunt Bea in the summers when she was off from school. The townspeople loved her aunt so she was instantly accepted and made great new friends with Celeste and Annie. So having inherited the shop and the apartment above, she decided to explore the attic which her Aunt never let her in. She found some odd things but among them she finds a large, old book entitled Enchanted Confections. Looking through the book, she sees a recipe for Lullaby Caramels and wants to try it since it looked good. Leaving the book open in the kitchen, she goes up to bed. But in the morning, she finds the book gone - stolen. It seems something magical is afoot and not good magic either. The police chief, Noah, teams up with Sophie, and with help from Annie's talking Siamese detective cats, Leo and Luna. We are treated to a fantastic mystery! One that actually can mean the end of the town as they know it. Of course, Noah starts out as a non-believer in magic, can he get over it to help solve the mystery? I not only highly recommend this book, but I recommend the entire series! I received an ARC but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
Sophie Vanora inherits “Sugar Spells”, a candy shop left to her by her Great-Aunt Beatrix. A quick exploration of the attic revealed a book entitled “Enchanted Confections”, so she took it downstairs to the kitchen to try out a few recipes the next day. But the enchanted recipe book is stolen overnight after a break-in and a note with a threatening tone is left behind for her. This was obviously a deliberate theft and may prove dangerous to the magical community of Quillhaven! Can Sophie gather help from new friends and a pair of talking felines named Leo and Luna -- and maybe even the skeptical police chief -- to help search for the thief? What harm might the altered Lullaby Caramels do in the wrong hands as the caramels begin to show up in town causing people to start behaving oddly? Who is making and distributing them? Why? And if they can’t track the thief, will he or she attempt to rewrite the magical rules of the town, trying to boost Quillhaven’s magic . . . or will they end up destroying its balance entirely if used wrong in their attempt to take control of Quillhaven’s magic? Can that magic be compromised if the guardian (Sugar Spells) can’t protect the town’s magic anymore? This is so much more serious than just a stolen cookbook! Can Sophie figure it out in time?
Another great read, this book in the Quillhaven Magical Cozy mystery series. The book takes us back to the cozy town of Quillhaven. The story is about Sophie Vanora that comes back to Quillhaven as she has inherited the candy shop Sugar Spells, from her great aunt Beatrix. Sophie hasn't been in Quillhaven for many years so, it's a trip down memory lane, back to her past and the summers she spent with Bea. The story is full of adventure and mystery, Sophie stumbles into a mystery that needs to be solved. Across her path she will meet friends from the past as the mystery deepens, she needs to find what she is looking for. Sophie will get help from the town police chief Noah who is just as eager as she is to solve the mysteries. During the quest strange things happen and, even the least expected situations can be difficult to handle. There is a lot of mystery and adventure, the cute cats Leo and Luna are part of the investigation. The book is really cozy and possibly is there a bit of magic to the mix. I truly enjoyed this book and would have loved for it to have been longer. All the ingredients are there to make the book fun and mystical with several twists. I'm grateful for the opportunity to read and review this book. I can definitely recommend this story. Charlotte N
Sugar Spells and Secrets by Tessa Silver Sophie Vanora is just getting used to the confection and smells ,even the magic spells ,the sweet treats so swell but now her deceased Great Aunt Beatrix’s enchanted recipe book of sweet eats has up and vanished from the safe . Well in this store among sugar and ice cream,it’s a surefire thing this person isn’t playing nice. With just two clues to go on , that’s written on the note left behind . Lullaby and good night? What in all that is spooky is this quooky thing. It’s certainly intriguing ,that’s the thing though . Where does she start? She knows that she has her magical felines to help out and of the townsfolk she’s in no doubt in her heart. Quillhaven’s magic could be lost for good as well as being used for no good. The sceptical police chief is of no use. Good job she’s got her own feline super-sleuths in her arsenal .Leo and Luna will help her uncover the clues sooner and with great poise ,it’s as easy as cake. That’s no mistake. But what’s with the Lullaby Caramels from which they can’t wake? A well written story this is by Tessa Silver ,read in one go ,it has such an easy flow ,the prose was so well penned. I was looking forward to the end but then not because I loved the immersive writing so much it’s well penned.
Sophie made her way into the heart of Quillhaven. She was doubtful of her ability to make the sweets she loved and made as a young person. She was used to being alone the last 10 years. These factors made meeting fellow shopkeepers and new magical friends, oh-so-interesting!!. This band of characters became her friends, and also partners, in solving a Mysterious Darkness plaguing the Town. Sophie had to figure out how to break this Spell that could destroy, not just her, but the very town she now loved. Desperate to find the answers before any more death attempts could be made. They worked together along with a young constable to try to break the evil holding onto Quillhaven. I love Quillhaven! The description of the town is so vivid! From Sofies initial walk from the train station, a first meeting with the helpful mail carrier, imagining the fairgrounds, it just all works for me. Leo and Luna are such interesting characters. To say they are just "cats" or "familiars" , sells them short!! They are detectives in their own right!! Sassy and smart. The main character Sophie evolves through the book, she really plants some roots here. I hope for another chapter to her story!! LOVED IT! SO much fun!
Sophie Vanora arrives in the magical town of Quillhaven, after inheriting her Great-aunt Beatrix’ candy shop Sugar Spells. While cleaning the shop, Sophie is compelled to explore the attic, where she finds a large, old book entitled “Enchanted Confections”. Her eyes land on a recipe for Lullaby Caramels and her curiosity is piqued. Intending to make them the next day, she brings the book downstairs to the kitchen and goes to bed. The next day, after visiting her new friend, Celeste Nightingale, Sophie returns to find that her shop has been broken into and the recipe book is gone! I won't spoil the rest for you- you’ll just HAVE to read it! There's magic and mystery and I have to say this author has a gift! At the beginning, when Sophie steps off the train and sees Quillhaven, the author's description of the town made me want to live there! In my mind, I could see the buildings and smell the scents and that made me want to keep reading! This is a wonderful book and I can't wait for the next one. I received this book as an Advanced Reader Copy and I am excited to leave this voluntary review.
The quaint town of Quillhaven, Maine gained a new resident in the 4th title of the series.
Main character Sophie spent time in Quillhaven as a child, assisting her great-aunt Bea in the making of candies. As an adult, Sophie inherited the candy shop and decides to leave her unfulfilling life as an accountant to continue her aunt’s candy business. The people of Quillhaven welcome Sophie as one of their own, and she soon sets to work in preparation of reopening her grandmother’s shop.
After a mysterious break in and theft of a special recipe book at the candy shop, Sophie soon learns that there is truth to the magical reputation of Quillhaven. With the help of the town, potential love interest Police Cheif Noah, and talking Siamese cats Leo and Luna, Sophie sets out to thwart the magical thief before they disperse black magic on Quillhaven, and return Aunt Bea’s recipe book to its rightful home.
Sugar Spells & Secrets is a fantastic way to spend a cozy weekend.
Sophie Vanora moved to Quillhaven when her great-aunt passes away and leaves Sophia her candy shop. Sophie finds that Sugar Spells is enchanted and begins to learn about the magic throughout Quillhaven. When her great-aunt’s magic recipe book is stolen, it’s up to Sophie and her new friends to find out who took the book and why they are using its magic for evil..
Full disclosure: paranormal mysteries are not usually my cup of tea. That said, I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed this book. I found the plot to be engaging and the author did a nice job of creating quirky characters that made this story light-hearted and fun. It has even made me reconsider reading more of this genre
*I received a free ARC of this book from the author and BookFunnel. All opinions expressed are my own.
Sophie Vanora has inherited the great aunt’s candy shop and is willing to give it a go by moving from the big city. Memories of making candy with her aunt make her think this will be good for her and meeting her next-door neighbour, Celeste helps her feel welcome. Sophie finds that Sugar Spells is enchanted and begins to learn/remember about the magic throughout the town. When the candy story is broken into and her aunt’s magical recipe book is stolen, Sophie teams up with the local sheriff, who doesn’t believe in magic, and the Siamese cats, Leo and Luna, from the bookstore. After the shock of being able to hear the cats and trying to explain everything to the sheriff, the sleuthing begins. This has a nice little mystery with a slow romance, lots of humour, and great characters. Who doesn’t love the idea of talking cats, doing typical cat things and more.
Sophie Vanora has inherited her aunt Beatrix's candy shop in Quillhaven, but she soon learns there's more going on than making candy. When the shop is broken into and vandalized, her aunt's book is stolen. Sophie turns to Quillhaven's police chief, Noah Chandler, for help. Together they must delve into magic and secrets to save the candy shop and the town.
This is the latest book in the fantastic Quillhaven series and I really enjoyed it. The book was well-written with well-rounded characters including some we met in previous books. This was a quick, fun read with an intriguing mystery full of magic and twists and turns. I was hooked from beginning to end. While this is a cozy mystery and there's also a sweet romance. I loved the book and hope there's much more to come. I highly recommend both book and series.
She remembers fondly the time she spent with her great-aunt, so when Sophia Vanora inherits her aunt's candy shop, Sugar Spells, she leaves her corporate job in the city and moves to Quillhaven. After finding her aunt's secret recipe book, and it is promptly solen, it doesn't take long to realize that the thief has plans that put the town and its residents in danger. Fortunately for Sophia, she will have the assistance of Leo, Luna and the very handsome chief of police in tracking down the culprit. Fantastic and very entertaining read with magic, mystery, and a pair of chatty feline detectives. Wonderfully engaging characters and fast-paced dialog make this a must-read mystery. I recommend this book to other readers.

Sophie Vanora moves to Quillhaven after inheriting her great aunt Bea's candy shop, Sugar Spells. She makes a couple of new friends when she meets Celeste and Annie. She also meets the talking Siamese cats, Luna and Leo. Sophie eventually finds Bea's enchanted recipe book and her eyes catch onto a recipe for Lullaby Caramels. When the store is robbed and the recipe book taken she meets the police chief, Noah. He's a sceptic when it comes to magic, but when caramels appear in town, Sophie knows the recipe was messed with and they were made with evil intent. With the help of Noah, Luna and Leo they follow the clues and hope to stop the evil that is threatening the magic of Quillhaven. Love the setting and the characters in this series.
Sophie Vanora has left her boring job to move back to Quillhaven to Sugar Spells, her great-aunt’s candy shop. Sophie remembers making candy with her great-aunt but she knows nothing about magic. As she wonders if this was a good decision, she stops for directions at the post office. Not only do they give her directions but one of them walk her to Sugar Spells. That’s more interaction she’s had with people in a long time. She makes a few friends but then her shop is broken into. And then suddenly in Quillhaven a magical candy appears and it’s not good magic.
This is a fun series with new characters every time to add to those we already love.
Sophie Vanora moves to Quillhaven after the death of her aunt, having inherited her relative's candy shop. She quickly finds out that appearances are deceiving as the woman didn't just make regular candy, but magical candy, and Quillhaven isn't just a sleepy little hamlet but a town filled with magic. When her aunt's special recipe book is stolen, Sophie quickly becomes drawn into the mystery, although she has the help of her new friends to solve it (including two sassy talking Siamese cats). Quillhaven is an adorable setting, Sophie is an entertaining protagonist, and I'm hooked on reading more about the cats!
I received an ARC from the author via Bookfunnel, but all opinions are my own.
I’m a huge sucker for cozy paranormal mysteries, so I just had to get my hands on this series starter. Sophie is a very sympathetic main character, one who is living a hum-drum life and finds out she has inherited her great aunt’s dessert shop. It’s an opportunity to start over, and she embraces it with both hands, and she comes to find her friends. This is a mystery with no murder, but there is a stolen grimoire and of course secrets to uncover. This is a sweet series starter with wonderful characters. I’m looking forward to more. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
Sophie comes to Quillhaven to take over Sugar Spells, the candy store that her aunt had left her. She had no idea that it was a magical shop but it made it known in a big hurry. Unfortunately, she found out after someone had stolen her Aunt's very special recipe book. The town is being taken over by black magic and she is trying to figure things out with the help of her new friends and the Police Chief Noah, who becomes more to Sophie. It's a good thing that Leo and Luna the enchanted cats are there to help as they found some of the most important clues. If you love a paranormal cozy you will love this story. I received an arc and this is my review.

This book is a charming, absorbing reading experience. The idea of our protagonist discovering an extraordinary world, through a magical inheritance and discovering a mystery, quickly draws the reader in. The story weaves together elements of suspense and enchantment, resulting in a real page turner, with all the elements of cozy mystery. The well developed characters are a joy from start to finish. This was another fun read by the author. I had read the 2 books before this one in the series, and this one was just as captivating as the first 2. The cats add an extra layer to the story, but I frankly love the books even without them. The main character is likeable. I like how this one was not just another murder story, dealing with recipes being tampered with and nefarious individuals. It makes it a little more unique than the usual cozy mystery. I enjoyed it and would recommend it.

This particular story was a quick read but still interesting with a good storyline. Someone is trying to steal magic and Sophie has to figure out what's going on with a little help from her friends, as well as two quirky cats, Leo and Luna which absolutely makes the book in my opinion. I look forward to future mysteries with these two. I really like this series as each book focuses on a town resident so you are really involved with many different people with different stories.

This was good. I liked the small town. Loved that she ran a candy shop. Enjoyed the budding romance and friendships. I felt like this was a lot like another series I've read. Didn't mean I didn't enjoy it. I actually think this one was more enjoyable than the other one.
