I was born in a crossfire hurricane but conceived on a wet Wednesday in West Yorkshire. I have been writing for various publications, online and print, since I was 21 and now aged 42, I am right good at it.
I wonder if I can get through this review without using the ridiculous word 'cornucopia'? Let's see. Written by fanzine stalwarts Ben Baker and Tim Worthington, with contributions from Justin Lewis, Phil Catterall, Dave Rolinson. Christopher D. Bate and Garreth F. Hirons, TATP is a cornucopia of articles...damn! Used it in the first bloody sentence. Ah well. Never mind. I'll try not to use it again. This book is a celebration of culture, a foaming flagon raised in loyal toast to the brainfruits of a thousand ingenious artistic endeavours, a veritable cornucopia of ...oops. Sorry. Sorry. If you like reading amusing, well-written and cogently argued articles about pop culture in all its diverse forms, YOU SHOULD BUY ANOTHER BOOK!!!1 Haha! Jokes! No, no, seriously. This book has brilliant articles about ace stuff like Frank Sidebottom, video nasties, Christmas singles, Northern Soul (that last one's a guess as I haven't finished reading it yet but books like this always have at least one article on Northern Soul) and lots, lots more brilliant things. Maybe even Northern Soul. Yes, for the discerning buyer of books containing lots of fanzine articles about pop culture, TATP must surely be near the top half of your top 100. Buy it today. It's a bloody cornucopia!
I've always been a fan of the TATP site, and this book represents a collection of the ephemera associated with it, from the fanzines, to the articles and more besides.
Certainly worth a look, as to describe any one bit of it is to perhaps spoil the pleasure of the discovery.
