This text provides the techniques for pruning roses, trees, shrubs, climbing and wall plants, vines, and fruit trees, whose growth benefits from careful and systematic pruning.
This is a must if you have or would have a garden. Or if you have trees or plants that's need to be take care of. Really comprehensive guide on how to nurture, cut, spread and almost anything relating to the plants, except for the sickness or plagues, for that the author has another book which is also excellent. Totally recommended.
I picked up "Pruning" by Christopher Brickell from our bonsai library, because pruning is something I definitely need to learn more about. Where to make cuts on my bonsai plants? It's often a mystery to me, and I don't want to end up butchering them.
I enjoyed this book. I should start out by saying that it's not really a bonsai or houseplant book. It addresses pruning more from the perspective of trees, shrubs, and roses. Still, many concepts can carry over.
One thing that I really enjoyed about the book was its illustrations. When it mentions axil, or pinching back, or a snag, it either describes the concept well, or it has an illustrated example in the glossary. I found this really helpful.
There is much information on pruning various types of roses and fruit trees, as well as clematis and other vine-type plants.
If you're a "newbie" like me, I think you'll enjoy this book. Even more-experienced botanists will probably find a tip or two inside.
Must have voor elke tuinadept.
