Eastshore Isle #9

My Orc Contract Husband

Rate this book
The contract said temporary. My heart missed that memo. No one escapes a hostile takeover quite like this!

Six years ago, in an effort to avoid an arranged marriage, I walked away from my ruthless father’s business empire and built a new life as Eastshore Isle’s top realtor. I thought I’d finally left the corporate world—and its power plays—behind. But when his business partner tracks me down, marriage is suddenly back on the table… and I’m the prize.
To dodge a legally binding nightmare, I turn to the kindest, most talented, most unfairly gorgeous orc I know. Tarkhan needs a mortgage to start his woodworking business. I need a husband on paper. The solution is A contract marriage. One year and a day. No strings, no feelings, no problem.

Except Tarkhan isn’t just easy to live with—he’s impossible not to fall for.

And when my father’s partner shows up to stake his claim, I realize I don’t want a loophole marriage anymore. I want Tarkhan. No contracts, no expiration date—just forever.

This feel-good, low-angst, high-heat cozy romcom features the following marriage of convenience, class difference, forced proximity, adorable small-town (of course), lots of humor, lots of heat!

Veronika Kane is the monster-loving alter-ego of USA Today Bestselling Author Caroline Lee. One of Caroline's favorite genres to read is SciFi Romance, which led her to monster romance. When she discovered it was possible to set big, buff, delicious monsters in contemporary cozy small towns, she was sold. And that's how she ended up with a new pen name and a new series.

Welcome to the town of Eastshore Isle, the only beach town on the east coast experiencing negative population growth. You know who's going to help save the town? That's right; super-sexy, laugh-out-loud orcs.

Just like Caroline's HistRomComs, except greener.

My Orc Contract Husband by Veronika Kane
Eastshore Isle series #9. Paranormal orc contemporary romance. Can be read as a stand-alone. Characters from the prior couple of books appear in minor secondary roles.
Sami Shayson is a Real Estate agent on Eastshore Isle. Eastshore has a small town vibe and is growing. She loves her home and is always excited to welcome new people, especially the orcs that have been joining their community recently. Sami is showing the handsome Tarkhan around a property when she gets served papers from her father’s business partner. She fled from her father’s home more than a few years back when he tried to force her to marry his business partner when she was only 17. With no one to protect her at the time, she fled and now lives under an assumed name. Getting the paperwork and a threat is traumatic but Tarkhan is there to help Sami. He will protect her, whatever it takes. He’s been interested in Sami, but hasn’t had the confidence or the money to ask her out. Now he has an excuse to spend more time with her, protecting her from the man that’s threatening her still, years later.
As the two spend time together, their attraction grows.

Fun romance, sweet and racy times, low angst even with a threat overhead, with the small town vibe of everyone knowing who doesn’t belong.
Tarkhan is more cinnamon roll than alpha but he’s exactly what Sami needs. She needs protection and she wants Tarkhan for her first lover too. His kteer is more than happy to help in every position.

Love these orcs! Every release goes to the top of my tbr. Sexy, sweet, loving, friendships, little or no discrimination, welcoming downtown area with markets and restaurants, and a growing population of orcs falling in love. Candy for my soul.

I received an early copy. Opinions are my own.
Bought a copy to keep and reread when I need a short escape.

Super cute and s3xy addition to the Eastshore Isles series. Sami is a successful realtor who’s trying to help the very yummy orc Tarkhan find his forever home. When his mortgage application comes back approved for far short of the amount he’d need to it a home and add a workshop to the property, Sami offers to help him out if he’d offer his protection in marriage so she’s not required to marry her father’s much older business partner per an agreement between the two scheming men.

Tarkhan knows he’s found his Mate in Sami but traumat!c childhood baggage has him holding back from fully engaging with her intimately. Can these two admit their true feelings about each other and work toward their happy ever after? Or is the weight of the past too great to overcome?

This series has been so much fun to read, and each time I think Veronika Kane’s MCs are my favorite yet, I get to read yet another pairing who are just perfect for each other.

I was generously furnished an advance reader copy from the author, and I’m sharing my honest review.

Oh goodness, there were so many things to love about this ninth (holy crap we’re at 9! 12 if you count the prequel and 2 stories set in Eastshore but not officially part of the series) installment in the Eastshore Isle series!!

I love a good marriage of convenience and this one was done so well!! I loved that they knew each other, at least mildly, before they each got into their binds and it really came across as friends trying to help one another (friends who were hiding their feelings from one another, BUT FRIENDS NONETHELESS!). Oh goodness, when Sami started having a panic attack at the barn during the downpour and Tarkhan wrapped her up in his arms and was willing to give her anything to take her pain away, I WAS ROMANTICALLY INVESTED IN THESE TWO!!!

I loved how Tarkhan was the only orc without a really healthy bank account, but I loved more why that was. Tarkhan was such a giving and loving person, which really made him easy to fall for.

I adored Sami and her love of dirty romance books! All her funny shirts with the dirty acronyms that always led to funny banter between her and Tarkhan were hilarious to watch, and so satisfying to see him figure out 😉

I loved that in this book we explored more grief (separate from Sakkara’s and Emmy’s situation), and we were able to watch Tarkhan heal through it with the help of Sami (talk about sexual healing, amirite???)

I loved Sami’s real family (not her dad, we won’t talk about him!). Her aunt was amazing and really was her rock in this world. I freaking loved her cousin Riven!! Since we heard about Riven, not even met her(!), I called that she is going to be the one to crack grumpy old Abydos. There are just so many things that checked out for them!!

- He can’t cook, she’s a chef
- She has money problems but won’t ask for help, he is literally the wealthiest of the orcs
- He is scarred from everything he went through in the government experiments, she is scarred from having fought breast cancer.

Also looking forward to meeting Brooke, Sami’s other cousin, because that means we get another Eastshore Isle book!! Haha I kid (but not really, I will never get enough)

Let’s talk about what a BOSS BABE Harper was in this book!! She literally pulled out her strong and confident lawyer background to save Sami and Tarkhan because they are part of her people now, her orcish family. I loved that she came from a similar background to Sami and was able to empathize, but also stand up for her in the baddest boss way possible! Don’t cross Harper lol

Lastly, I loved how much of a dirty talker Tarkhan was!! It’s always fun when we get an extra dirty talking orc, and we got that this time 😉

Thank you to Veronika Kane for the opportunity to read this book. The thoughts and opinions expressed above are honest and my own.

This story is dual POV, well written, and a sweet and steamy, marriage of convenience, male orc woodworker (Tarkhan)/female human realtor (Sami), contemporary fantasy romance. I adored Tarkhan’s commitment to making a difference to the world and his focus on the family of choice, even as I empathised with the history that guided his choices. I enjoyed Sami’s initiative that led to her presence on the island, and her determination to maintain the life that she’d chosen. I enjoyed the proximity that facilitated relationship development. I enjoyed the steamy intimate scenes and the way Sami pushed for their relationship to progress past Tarkhan’s concerns. I enjoyed the supportive and integrated secondary characters and cameos from previous stories’ characters. I adore this series - any story just makes my day brighter.

I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.

A marriage of convenience on Eastshore Isle with one of the Orcs, yes please!! In the newest Eastshore book, we have Sami and Tarkhan’s story, which is among the most unique in the series. Both characters have secrets in their pasts they’ve buried, and it turns out each has the strength the other needs to recover and heal. I enjoyed getting to Tarkhan’s backstory, because in previous books he was definitely the playboy of the bunch. I also highly enjoy the continued world-building, which makes me love these orcs more and more. This book also had more emotional moments for me than the previous books, but don’t worry - as always, high heat abounds!

wonderful Monster Romance 🥰

This is book 9 of this Monster Romance series that is set in a small town on the south east coast of North America, I have really enjoyed this book and the other 8 books in this series, I highly recommend them all and I think they have a great combination of smuttyness and small town charm.

I can't say enough about this series. Tarkhan was introduced in a previous book. It was fun to learn his story. Sami grew up in wealth, but gave it up and became a real estate agent. She moved to Eastshore when her father tried to force her to marry his business partner. While showing houses to Tarkhan she learns of her father's death. His business partner still wants to marry her. Tarkhan wants to protect her and they decide to marry for one year. After reading so many of these books I feel like I'm a part of Eastshore.

I actually read this one awhile ago and forgot to write a review (whoops!).

It's a marriage of convenience! Sami is a realtor for the Eastshore, trying to help Tarkhan find an affordable place to live and have a shop for his woodworking. Thing is he is one of the few orcs with no money, having given it away to less fortunate orphan humans. Man/orc with a bleeding heart. But a marriage of convenience is the solution when it comes to light that Sami's father has found her.

Tarkhan's loan will get a bump because of Sami's additional income on Tarkhan's papers and Sami will have the protection of already being married, and to someone her powerful but corrupt father and his equally corrupt business partner can't intimidate or pay off. It's an argument to reassess their marriage after a year and a day. If it doesn't work out, they will divorce.

But Tarkhan, right from the start, doesn't want a divorce and convinces himself that he can change Sami's mind in the year they are together, mostly using his tongue. The feeling is mutual and Sami sets out to help Tarkhan overcome the 'shame' of his past so they can have areal marriage, in every sense of the word.

This one was pretty good, building on some of the lore established in other books but giving it more body and context, particularly when it comes to Tarkhan. This book also has a bit more excitement/suspense to it then a lot of the others thanks to the strong emotions brought to the table through Sami's side of the story. He dad thought himself something of a feudal era ruler or something with his daughter a pawn in cementing his power.

If you're here for the spice, there is enough of it. For awhile it's mostly one sided until Sami gets through the Tarkhan that he too is deserving of both emotional and physical love. It was kind of refreshing for the orc to have a mental block rather than the FMC.

This is a fun, sweet, small-town orc romance. The stories in the Eastshore Isle series are all interconnected standalones and can be read in any order with minor spoilers.

Realtor FMC Sami moved to Eastshore years ago to escape her father, who had essentially sold her off to his business partner as a child bride. She’s been enjoying showing her hunky orc client, MMC Tarkhan, around real estate listings, until her past catches up with her. To solve all their problems they decide to get married (as one does), and quickly realize they have major chemistry, along with plenty of emotional baggage to work through.

The story is both super sweet and very spicy, with Tarkhan, who had given off himbo vibes in previous books, finally getting a fully fleshed-out backstory. It’s surprisingly emotional for such a cozy orc romance.

This was a spicy and fun read. I can’t wait to see what shenanigans unfold in the next installment, featuring Abydos and Riven’s story, My Orc Billionaire, which was teased at the end of this book.

Spice: 4.5/5
Plot:4/5
Writing: 4.5/5
My Enjoyment: 4.5/5

WOW!!! This is a must read as soon as you can get it!! I have read one or two of Veronika Kane books and I have absolutely fallen in love with her writing. I was so excited to get this book and so thankful I set aside some time as soon as I cracked the first page I was totally hooked and needed to finish this book all the way to the end. This was so well-written and you can't but fall in love with Tarkhan and Sami, there are so many layers to these two and the way they come together is so much fun to read. I loved how Tarkhan is the biggest sweetheart and he takes care of Sami as easy as breathing always putting her first and making sure she is totally comfortable and feels safe. Sami in returns takes care of Tarkhan in a way he hasn't had in his life and feels like he doesn't deserve. I was loving every moment with the naughty shirts and his guesses of what the letters meant as well you find yourself wanting to cry along when you find out what it is in his background that makes him feel the way he feels. I loved every single moment of this story and reading about the other orcs and their mates makes me want to read their stories as well. I was totally blown away by the you are drawn into the story feeling as if you are right there with he characters. I loved the chemistry between Tarkhan and Sami and who doesn't like a lot of spice in your stories. I sure do!!! This was so well-written and you will so not be disappointed in reading this book!! This is a must read all the way I cannot recommend this author and this book enough!!!!

Veronika does it again! Somehow she keeps writing unique stories that keep me eagerly waiting for the next one. In this one we find Tarkhan and Sami in a marriage of convenience, her to avoid a forced marriage and him to get a mortgage on a property he wants to buy. Of course the more time they spend together the more they realize they are meant to be together forever.

While this sounds like a typical trope and a basic plot, Veronika adds unique character traits and plot twists that make this one something special. Without adding spoilers, Tarkhan has issues that Sami works hard to help him overcome and, in turn, Tarkhan must protect Sami when her past comes calling.

While this book is part of a series, it can easily be read as a stand alone. I am heading back to reread the rest of the series while I patiently (or attempt to patiently) wait for the next one!

I love all of the Eastshore books, My Orc Contract Husband included. It is a sweet story about a human and Orc who marry out of convenience but neither realizing the other has true feelings for them. I love how Sami appreciates and notices everything that Tarkhan, the Orc, does for her and the people she loves. I love the banter and silliness they share. Sami also goes out of her way and tries to make his dreams come true.

Don't worry, there still are plenty of steamy parts in this book. You don't have to read the other Eastshore books to enjoy this one but after reading Sami's and Tarkhan's story, you are going to want to read all the rest!!

I received this book as an ARC and give my honest review.

Another heartwarming, steamy, and delightful visit to Eastshore Isle!

What starts as a contract marriage between Sami and Tarkhan evolves into something much deeper and more meaningful.

Tarkhan is the perfect "cinnamon roll" hero with a tragic past that makes you root for him to find love. Sami is just as easy to root for; she is so relatable with her humorous T-shirts and love for dirty romance books that make for some genuinely funny moments.

The romance is both sweet and delightfully steamy, and the low-angst, cozy vibe of the story lifts your spirits.

Like the other books in the series, it is a feel-good, small-town romance with an orc twist that will leave you totally hooked and wanting more, a true gem and a perfect escape.

Super adorable! Veronika writes some of the best orc romances. Without spoiling anything: this is a low angst. Tark and Sami are adorable together. Tark is the sweetest and had a tragic backstory that I wasn’t fully prepared for, but it helped shape him into the male that he is. Sami is perfect for him. This story provided enough conflict to make me happy when a big strong orc came to protect Sami. This story made me tear up, it made me swoon, and it made me put it down to clutch my heart all while saying “awwww”. Overall, I’m super satisfied with this story. Is it my favorite one in the whole series so far? No, but it is def in my the top 5 of the series. Definitely will reread it.

I absolutely adored this series and would be thrilled to hear more adventures featuring our lovable Eastshore Orcs!

We got to know our main male character (MMC) as the fun-loving, charming playboy orc, but there’s so much more to him than what you see on the surface. My heart really goes out to him; even though he has that playful persona, he’s just as sweet and endearing as the other Eastshore orcs. Our main female character (FMC) truly recognized the gem she had found; she just needed to bring out his brilliance a little more!

I loved their bantering; the MMC is such a funny guy. I can't help but grin at his antics. How did he come up with so many creative meanings?

Super cute

Don't expect a lot of danger and drama in this one, because despite what it sounds like, the bad guy is a barely there thing. More like a looming dread through the whole thing. I won't spoil anymore about that part, tho.
This a cute, sweet lil romance, and they already had feelings for each other so their impromptu marriage was really just away for them to get closer, since they were both super bashful of each other. It also turns out, that this orc is not a big player like the other books hinted. Not in the way you might think, anyways.
So, all in all this was such a cute romance and deliciously spicy.

P.s. The FMC is a book girly so that was fun.

Sami moved to Eastshore Isle to get away from her father and his business partner. Her father signed a contract promising her to the evil business partner in marriage. She is a real estate agent and one of her clients is Tarkhan. When she finds out her father has passed away, Sami is unsettled thinking what she can do to make sure she does not marry that evil business partner. Since Tarkhan has a need for a second income for a business loan, Sami and Tarkhan come up with a plan and contract for a temporary marriage. Only the temporary part doesn't work as they both fall hard for each other. Love the ending!

A Spirit Lifter!
I am loving this series and have just finished it's 9th book in which Sami and Tarkhan enter into an agreement to get married to avoid her father's partner ruining her life.
And, oh yes, of course they have a very satisfactory life together as they slowly they let go of their hidden secrets.
This story has made me smile and laugh so much. The reading entertainment is high and the characters are just so interesting, funny, serious, happy and fun to read about.
What a pleasure it was to be able to read an early copy and leave you this review! Enjoy!

My Orc Contract Husband by Veronika Kane is excellent. I'm new to this series but love it! Sami has escaped from her very wealthy and controlling father to an idyllic small town where she's opened a successful realty firm. Tarkhan is a giant, cute Orc looking for a new home with room to build his workshop. She needs a husband to protect her from her deceased father's business partner who wants her share of the business by marrying her. He needs help getting a mortgage by marrying her. Of course, love and a mating bonds find them so they can have their happily ever after.

This series just stays amazing. Tarkhan is an absolute sweetheart. Not your typical playboy and I loved that for him. It’s so funny to me how these orcs are so resistant to listening to their instincts. But they always eventually figure it out. Which Tarkhan did. Sami was fabulous. Very determined to go her own way away from her father and I’m so glad we got to see her make her stand. Loved these two together. They both had difficult pasts but together they were able to overcome and be stronger. Loved them!

I did receive an ARC and this is my honest opinion.

By Veronika Kane/Caroline Lee

Wow. What a really wonderful rom-com. I really can’t say enough good about this book. It was a 94 page 13 chapter novella that stole my heart 💜. It was a touching, lighthearted love story with lots of steam and loads of fun. If you can use your imagination and suspend belief/disbelief you too will be enthralled by this romance. This one shouldn’t be missed. Great job, Roni. Happy reading!!!!

This was a cute low angst book about an orc named Tarkhan and a human woman named Sami. Sami is a real estate agent trying to find Tarkhan a house, while also dealing with some unpleasant things from her past. They decide to get married as they both would benefit from it. Tarkhan was so sweet and really took good care of Sami. The spicy scenes are fun and hot, and it’s nice to read a book without a heavy plot.

No third act breakup

Sami has come to Eastshore to escape the plans her father has for her. She has been building a new life for herself and is a realtor. Sami has been working with Tarkhan to help him find a house. They finally find something that could work but Tarkhan does not the funds the rest of the orcs have so getting a mortgage is a struggle. While finishing up at a house Sami gets served court papers – and this starts Sami and Tarkhan on quite a journey. Another sweet orc story!

Such a cute and funny love story! I love that Sami is a book girlie and has smut themed tee shirts but also that she’s a virgin. Our male, Tarkhan, has such a complicated relationship with spicy time that it’s heartbreaking. Their all-the-way scene is literally beautiful!

The development of this relationship and this family is such a special one and I absolutely loved it!

I liked how different this was. An orc and a human, weird, right? But Sami needs someone to protect her and Tarken is the right orc to help. A marriage with an expiration date, an orc with secrets and a life of pleasure, oh yeah. This couple go together like peanut butter and jelly and their chemistry is out of the world.
