The Convergence

Rate this book
Tristan and Samara are reunited, but around them, everything else unravels. Two months have passed since their declaration of war against the Council split the world in two, and Fang has framed Tristan as the villain behind the death and destruction that now grip the planet—the very chaos she unleashed.

Tristan’s hope for a peaceful resolution has all but disintegrated, and with his illness growing more prominent each day, his mind and body are quickly following suit. Despite his faltering strength, he’s determined to end Fang’s bloodstained reign and honor his promise to Samara. But to give the woman he loves her dream, Tristan must face his greatest nightmare.

Terrified of losing Tristan, Samara is desperate for him to seek a cure, but the harder she fights for their future, the higher the wall between them grows. Worse, she’s hiding a secret that’s affecting her abilities, leaving her vulnerable when the world needs her most. And when Tristan learns the truth, it may strike the final blow to their relationship.

A glimmer of hope surfaces when an unexpected ally offers vital information that could bring an end to Fang’s cruel machinations. But with Tristan’s mind unraveling and the death toll rising by the hour, can Tristan and Samara heal what’s broken between them before the world crumbles completely?

In this explosive conclusion to The Drift, enemies become allies, secrets are exposed, and the bonds of love are tested to their breaking point. Will Tristan and Samara live long enough to see the peace they’ve always dreamed of—or will the war consume them both?

Wonderful conclusion

If you’re this far in the series you already know it’s good. Convergence is excellent, a truly glorious end to one of my favorite trilogies

Those who have been following the fraught love story of Tristan and Samara won’t want to miss the epic conclusion of this action-packed sci-fi romance (or romantic sci-fi thriller?). From the very start of the Convergence, the air is thick with tension carrying over from the end of the the second instalment of this series. I won’t recap everything in detail here, but I plan to share an overview of the series soon.

We’re aching to see Tristan and Samara happy, but they first have to overcome some massive obstacles. Many of these obstacles are external, like the council led by the irredeemably evil Fang. But the more heartbreaking ones come from within. From Tristan’s failing health. From Samara’s fear of losing him. From the secrets they keep from each other.

A powerful telepath, Tristan’s near god-like abilities are slowly carving lesions in his brain and leaving him with debilitating side effects. Samara is finding it painful to keep her heart open when her lover isn't fighting to take care of himself. She also struggles to reconcile her identity as a stoic assassin with her role as a mother to Neveah. While she is healthier than Tristan, her elite Corporis abilities are also becoming volatile for reasons she isn’t ready to divulge*.
Fortunately they still have Kip, the smooth-talking voice of reason, to act as their referee and counsellor. Other beloved side characters like Neveah, Chloe, and Asha all get moments to shine. And even some of the antagonists surprise us.

*More on Samara:

The battles in this book are brutal and nail-biting. When you put telekinesis and matter manipulation in the hands of twisted characters, you can imagine what follows. There are scenes straight out of horror novels here.

Content warnings:

Aufenthie uses the multiverse concept to excellent effect. The alternate realities we encounter do not detract from the arcs of the characters we know, but give us insights into their natures. Tristan and Samara are afforded glimpses of the impacts their choices have. Tristan especially, must confront his stubborn streak for his own good and everyone else's.

The romance of this series is about soulmates rather than second chances at love. But I appreciate the way Tristan and Samara’s love for each other expands and envelops the people around them. The many losses in the series, things that seemed painful and senseless, all amount to something meaningful. There is an especially cathartic reunion towards the end that had me sobbing.
This is a Romeo and Juliet story that goes the distance.

masterful ending

I loved this book! It was an epic conclusion to the series, wrapping up things very well. It built on the themes from the previous books such as love and sacrifice, but it also wonderfully introduced new themes such as faith, and my favorite--the power and beauty of motherhood!! Each character had a fulfilling arc, and the plot kept me hooked. There were twists that made me want to scream and turns where I wanted to whoop for joy.

Well done, Casie. Your hard work paid off!

It all comes down to this!

As a fellow independent author, I am in awe of anyone that can envision, write, edit, publish, and market a novel on their own. It’s a truly terrifying process. So, what about an entire dystopian science fiction book series with a word count north of 450,000? Oh, and how about a unique world that no one’s thought of before? While we’re at it, stock it with characters that will stay with you and place them in impossible situations with the fate of the world at stake too?

Casie Aufenthie, the gifted writer, answered that heroic call. Her first two books in this series, “The Drift” and “The Symbiosis” (go read them now if you haven’t already!) are a solid foundation to set up what promises to be an epic mind-blowing conclusion in book number three, “The Convergence.”

Does she stick the landing?

Well, to answer that question, I’ll kindly borrow a quote from one of my favorite characters on the television show Star Trek: The Next Generation, ‘Q’ “Con permiso, Capitan. The hall is rented, the orchestra engaged. It's now time to see if you can dance.”

Let me assure you, Ms. Aufenthie can dance. Oh, can she! “The Convergence” is beyond satisfying! Whew! What a ride!

I was privileged to be asked by the author to join the beta reading team for this novel, and I constantly tried to anticipate where I thought this story was going—especially its electrifying denouement. I admit that every plot twist was a surprise to me. There are no shortcuts here and readers that have made it this far I promise will be rewarded.

I am also in awe of the metaphysical discussions in this novel that remind me of classic works by LeGuin and Card. The level of human insight Ms. Aufenthie commands is remarkable.

While the story naturally is centered on the two protagonists, Samara & Tristan, their battles, their trials, and their destiny together, I feel I owe a special tip-of-the-hat to the character of Kip—far and away my favorite.

I am crestfallen this epic book series is at its end. However, I am absolutely delighted to emphasize what an outstanding journey this has been over the last few years.

Ms. Aufenthie, you may count on me to be a fan of yours for life!

The series concluded with a breathtaking finale!

I was really looking forward to reading this book, the final chapter of Samara and Tristan’s story, and it was worth the wait.

Casie, a truly gifted writer, masterfully distinguished this book from its predecessors, beautifully introducing new themes. Love, family, acceptance, forgiveness, and faith were woven into the story, guiding it wonderfully.

The world-building, action, and tension were perfectly balanced. Certain scenes were so skilfully crafted that I reread them a few times, such as Samara’s training on the beach, where she discovered a new way to see the world. I felt as though I were right there with her, seeing the world through her eyes and sharing her experiences.

The growth Samara and Tristan experienced in this book, through love, loss, and pain, was exceptionally well-structured. Their internal back and forth on challenging topics, their moments of confusion and feeling lost, resonated deeply. The story progressed at a more deliberate pace than previous instalments, especially in the beginning, which I appreciated. It allowed for a deeper emotional immersion into Samara’s and Tristan’s souls.

As with other’s book in the series, it is an emotional rollercoaster. Reading this book, I had moments of laughter, awe, and tears, especially when reading about Wyatt’s funeral.
While it is a brilliant closure, I am actually sad there will be no more books coming! This series is by far the best I’ve read.

Needless to say, you must read the previous books in the series to fully appreciate this one, and I highly recommend doing so. Readers who enjoy dystopia, science fiction, and romance will find it a worthwhile and captivating read.

The Convergence by Casie Aufenthie is a beautiful conclusion to one of my favorite trilogies. Returning to Samara, Tristan, and Kip felt like coming home—only to find the stakes higher, the wounds deeper, and the world closer to collapse than ever before.

This final installment is emotionally wrenching in the best way. The story pulled tears from me more than once, balancing heartbreak with moments of profound hope. Tristan’s internal struggle is especially gripping, as his failing health and unraveling mind mirror the chaos consuming the world around him. Samara’s fear, love, and determination add another powerful layer, making their relationship feel raw, fragile… achingly real.

At its core, The Convergence is a story about found family, love, loss, sacrifice, and the cost of hope in a broken world. The bonds between the characters are beautifully written and deeply earned. Every choice feels heavy with consequence, and every emotional beat lands.

What I loved most is how this book captures the original magic of The Drift. It brings the trilogy full circle while still surprising the reader, delivering a conclusion that feels both explosive and heartfelt. Casie Aufenthie doesn’t shy away from pain, but she never lets go of the possibility of healing and peace.

An unforgettable ending to an incredible trilogy. Highly recommended for fans of emotional, character-driven dystopian science fiction.

THE CONVERGENCE had me glued to the page from the very beginning and never let go. This was the absolute perfect, thrilling conclusion to Tristan and Samara’s story and I loved every minute. Author Casie Aufenthie does such an amazing job of vividly describing every battle scene, from the physical fights, where wickedly awesome Samara twists and turns her way through fight sequences, to the psychic battles, where her fated love Tristan is locked in the battle of his life. This wonderful conclusion was so well written both because of the stakes—can they and Kip (who I love just as much!) and the rest of their friends save their world from Fang? But also the emotional ones, as Samara is desperate to save the man she loves from the fate that has befallen other powerful psychic magic users. I loved the powerful themes of love, family and motherhood. So well done, and I can’t wait to see what Aufenthie writes next! 5/5 stars.

Holy moly…what a ride from start to finish. I’m still reeling from the ending!

I was absolutely terrified reading this last book because I knew no one was safe from Fang! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time.

I loved the growth of each character through this trilogy. And Samara especially…wow. No spoilers, but you are in for an amazing, heart pounding adventure in this one. Can’t wait for more from this incredible author.

An action packed ending to a series that's been a lot of fun. I wish I could've given a higher score; unfortunately there were some things in The Convergence that didn't really work for me personally (not leaving them here because of spoilers), but I still had a good time reading it, and I'm glad to have experienced this explosive trilogy. I'll miss the magnificent Kip!
