When she was nine years old, Boston Kane did not believe in ghosts. That was before the dead started talking to her.
Now fifteen years later, Boston runs an amateur “ghost hunting” business with her best friends. Her family doesn't see the point. Not until her sister marries a local millionaire, and moves into a haunted mansion that is no amusement park ride.
Boston has no idea what she’s in for at Horeland Estate, where a spirit unlike anything she has ever seen, felt, or heard lingers. The circumstances of his death are a total mystery. Plus, he is a stubborn hot-head who wants to play the hero.
HEATHER MARIE ADKINS writes too much but still too little. She also has too many cats, not enough tequila, and a torrid love affair with procrastination.
With a penchant for the paranormal, Heather spends her days fueled by coffee, Ancient Aliens, and true crime podcasts. She resides in an unfortunately-not-haunted Queen Anne in southern Indiana with a sarcastic husband who is entirely too dependent on puns.
When she’s not plotting her next book or herding felines, she's researching the spookier aspects of history for her podcast, Historically Weird. Find out more about her at heathermarieadkins.com.
Even though the story is short, it is filled with plenty of thrills, mystery, romance, action, paranormal, and even delightful comedy. I loved all of the characters. Ian felt well-developed, the side character best friend, Vespers, was very colorful from her dreadlocks to her hippie tie-dyes, and I loved Boston’s roommate Sherrie who was always doing totally unexpected things. The mansion was wonderfully Gothic, lavish, and creepy, just what I wanted from a ghost story. The ghost hunting elements were right out of Ghost Hunters with plenty of the author’s own ideas added in. And there are plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader on the edge of their seat with their jaw dropping.
The only complaint I had with the story was the ending felt rushed and, yes, right out of one of Sherrie’s soap operas - almost feeling like it had been written by a different author from the rest of the story. Even with the off-step ending, His Haunting Kiss is a definite must read for fans of Ghost Hunters, Ghostbusters, and The Others, and anyone who is looking for a bit of romance with their spooky paranormal.
Very fun and interesting writer. It's fast-paced and full of interesting concepts and a different take on ghost lore. I'm not sure how I feel about it because it gets more complicated trying to fit all the pieces with reincarnation and evolution and what it truly means to "die". And yet at the same time, there is an afterlife to shoot for, yet there's no mention of God or what exactly the standard is... Etc. etc. It just, if you think about it too hard, it gets convoluted and messy.
So, I would recommend not thinking too hard about all of that. The characters are all really lively and relatable. They really come alive on the page and the interactions feel natural. I love the fun teasing friendship between Boston and Vespers, total gal-pals for the win! I loved Boston's strained yet strangely endearing relationship with her snobby sister. I loved Boston's kind of heated start with Ian and then the genuine companionship as it develops between them. I just loved Boston, okay? She was down-to-earth yet exciting too.
A very intriguing mystery tangled up with a journey of self-discovery. I was fully enthralled and invested. Then...the author fumbles it in the climax. There's a big reveal and info dump and it felt clunky, unreal, and the reveal itself felt too fantastical and I think it counts as a dues ex machina? So, that was really the only thing that kept me from giving it five stars. Otherwise, I loved the final chapter and wrap up and will definitely be looking into the next book in the series.
I really liked this book, little bit tamer than my usual reads but still good. I liked the lore and the mythology of it. I might have found a new author to read more of.
4.5 but I always round up. The .5 is because I wasn`t so sure in the beginning. * * I enjoyed this a lot more than I expected, though I wasn`t really sure what I expected from reading the summary. I did not see THAT plot point coming until the blog post scene. I caught that foreshadowing instantly. * * Ian Clarke is a dream boat. I want one. Where do I find one? DO I have to die? Also, all the family connections and her bestie being the current generation from Ian; excellent details and not coming off as desperate or trying too hard to make connections. Sometimes, I feel like these types of details cam be too much for a story or unnecessary to the plot or just plain overwhelming. It was a teensy bit slow in the beginning for me but once it really got going at the estate, damn- I. WAS. HOOKED. * * Vespers and Trevor are amazing friends/coworkers to have. Madison is a good sister, they just grew up in different lives right next to each other. Vespers' name does give me trouble though. Not sure why- very unique though. * * PLUS- THAT TITLE- * * ANyway... loved it. Didn`t see all those twists and turns coming. The happy ending with the family at the Murder House was lovely and I can`t wait to see how Trevor and Madison takes the truth of it all.. cuz it`s gonna have to happen. And I wanna be there when it does. Ugh. I still love that title!!🥰

Everything I've read of Heather's I've loved. She weaves such wonderful stories no matter the genre. His Haunting Kiss encompasses a love story, a ghost story, magic, and a lot of mystery in between. It kept me on the edge of my seat and wanting more. I can't wait for the next book!
Boston Kane is our heroine, she didn’t believe in ghosts until she started seeing and hearing them after she turned nine years old. Nowadays, she runs a company that hunts down and records spirits. When her sister comes to her about what’s going on in her house. Boston and her BFF Vesper, who is also employed by her, go to check it out. She realizes that there is more than one spirit in this house. First, there’s the earthbound spirit, Ian. Second, is a more sinister entity, one she can’t figure out. Ian himself has tried for numerous years and hasn’t been able to work it out. Boston then uncovers a huge secret about herself and boy is it a whopper! I really enjoyed this story, the writing and the characters are great. My favorite was Vespers. She seems to not have a filter and will say what needs to be said. I can't wait to read the next one in the series!!
