The Executioner

Rate this book
A predator's intention......

It is my intention to cause you fear such as you have never known. It is my desire to take your fear to a whole new level of terror. I can smell your fear as its sweet scent flows through my universe. This small universe that I have created and am permitting you to exist in. I say these things because you only exist right now because I have allowed it, for if I should choose, I could snuff you out as if extinguishing a candle flame.

I will make you thank me later for allowing you to breathe.

I will mix you a concoction of fear, pain, uncertainty, and arousal such as you have never known. You see, my curious little prey, these all create very similar physical reactions. My little prey, they have common traits on the emotional side too.

Curious prey, curious prey, let me growl my intentions into your curious ear. I will keep you in a constant state of fear, pain, uncertainty, and arousal. I know exactly what I am doing; I am a skilled and professional predator.

It is my full intention to own you! I will keep you in a constant emotional whirlpool. This is the universe of my making, and you exist in it by my power and by my choice. I want you in a constant state of fear, physical discomfort, pain, uncertainty, and arousal.

I am purposely blurring the lines between your emotions, and your physical sensations. As I do this, I am creating a desire and a craving within you to be manhandled and taken by me.

I am intentionally working you into a state of intense arousal and desperation. I am conditioning you to crave your new life as my prey...

This is not romance. It is the story of two extremely damaged people in a very dysfunctional relationship. Whether you would view their relationship as love, or not--I can't say. What I can say as the author, is that Trent and Kansas demanded a voice. They demanded that their story be told and I have been faithful in telling it. Their story is one of dark, twisted, and chaotic passion. I have remained true to them and for that I hold a special place in their heart, and they most definitely hold a sacred place in mine.

To keep up with all things Suzanne Steele you can find her on Facebook and her wordpress blog. Everything there is up to date. She loves her beautiful readers.
Suzanne Steele is an Amazon Bestselling Author and television host for a TV program in the Charlotte NC area. She focuses on volunteer work and is very heavily involved in giving back to her local community. The month of October will be spent focusing on breast cancer awareness.
Suzanne has a penchant for writing about dark characters with twisted behavioral patterns. If you're looking for the typical romance, this is probably not the author for you. Her characters are very alpha in nature and many times they operate under obsession for the object of their affection; rather than love. Though she does believe in happily ever afters, her characters many times have a bumpy ride getting there.
She also writes under the pseudonym Stormy Dawn Weathers for her writings that aren't so darkly laced with a true realism of shock and awe. Suzanne Steele does not believe in holding back when it comes to writing about how dark and depraved her characters are in the core of their primal natures.

Let's start with the cover.
that cover is h-o-t, hottt!!! It's what drew me in in the first place.
Karima says: "He can punish me whenever he wants."
Then the blurb. I was like, that's messed up, let's read it.

The first 40% of this book is fantastic. the h is crazy, the H is definitely crazy, but the 3rd person, Dr. Winslow, maybe the craziest.
The story is told from 3 different POV's, Kansas, Trent (The executioner), and the quack. It's kind of neat being in each ones head. It adds depth to the story. It was so intriguing, you weren't sure what was really going on. Karima and I had many-a-theories. Is it dreams, memories, drugs?? You just weren't quite sure and the mystery of it sucked you in.

It isn't until that 40%, where she is taken to The Executioner's home and is "forced" to write "bedtime stories" that it looses intensity. You get pushed into her side stories and loose the main focus of the story. Then all of a sudden he has "blood brothers" that he served in the forces with that he calls up to help deal with the crazy Doc. Only to find out on their rescue mission, that they're all the "same" (crazy apparently)
Now, this may not have been a problem if the story wasn't so short and their was more time for a background story on these characters. Instead the author just threw things out randomly to add to the story, which in the end hurt it. The writing seemed childish and made it a little bit "cheesy".

Between the cover, blurb, and the first part of the story, We would have given it a 4+ stars, after that we have to give it about a 3.

You had me at the cover. He is alpha all the way no flowers and candlelight dinners here. He stalks her, lets her know that he's out there, slowly watches as she goes down hill. He becomes obsessed with her and needs to save her...so he takes her. He tells her the rules and he don't mess around either. He's a rough lover and she loves it!! There is a reason why he does all that he does. If you are in the mood for a short read with a rough and tough alpha here it is. Sometimes you just want something fast and pleasurable;))

Despite the writing being terrible, the plot ridiculous and the characters completely unlikable, I didn't hate this, it was actually mildly enjoyable.

I love dark romance but this fell short for me. The Executioner went on about how he was all dominant and scary but this didn't show in his actions at all.

As for the doctor, I found him creepy and slimy, there was nothing attractive about him.

This wasn't completely terrible, it just wasn't particularly good either unfortunately.

I mean she has just been kidnapped. She wakes up drugged and the first thing she does is suck him off. Come on I know its fictional but at least make it alil believable.

I tried but failed. The best thing about this book, is the cover; if I could read it instead, I would. 1* for the Cover. The writing's not very good; grammar mistakes, and needs a good Editor on the job. Details matter. If the details are wrong or missing, I can't read a story. Took me ages to figure out who was talking in the Prologue and who Dr. Winslow was. Eventually, I figured out who Dr. Winslow was; he was the Psychiatrist treated both the male and female main characters. Dr. Winslow says the following:

"Don’t get me wrong, the guy isn’t a rapist or anything, he just likes to stalk, kidnap, and abduct women. He enjoys a woman resisting sexually so he can systematically break her down until she’s begging for his c%ck."

I'd say that's the perfect description of a Rapist; wouldn't you? And some more:

"Knowing I am her first, knowing I am the one who introduced her to this lifestyle, is an aphrodisiac to me."

I'm none the wiser as to what this refers to, as we aren't told. First what? I've no idea. Didn't know that stalking, abduction and rape, is a 'lifestyle'. This is a doozy:

"I pull out of my driveway and slam on the brakes as I realize I left my coffee on the roof."

This is the first mention of a 'roof' in the book. And this is the only other mention of 'coffee' before the 'coffee on the roof':

"...and make my way into the kitchen to retrieve the thing I love most on days like this—coffee."
🤔 🤨

I understand others may enjoy this book, but it's not my cup of tea. 🍵 It felt like this story was written for people with a low IQ, it was that bad. I wouldn't recommend it.

Kansas is a social worker who her therapist believes has RAD [Reactive Attachment Disorder]. She is attending work mandated therapy sessions with Dr. Winslow after a client lured Kansas to her home then blew her brains out with Kansas watching and the client’s child crawling at her mother’s feet.

Dr. Winslow is a certified genius, graduating high school at 14, followed by John Hopkins. He is also certifiably insane. The Doctor has some crazy theories about RAD, all of which include the torture of women who have it – all in the name of science and the greater good of humanity of course. Kansas is the perfect candidate for his “research”. Dr. Winslow recruits another patient to help him with the initial phases of his project – Trent.

Trent is only seeing Dr. Winslow to get a bill of clean mental health to provide to a potential purchaser of an app that Trent has created. The businessman wants to be sure that he is dealing with someone who is saner than he looks, because Trent looks like a monster and gives off the vibe of a predator. Trent is a predator, but a predator with a heart of gold, huge and gorgeous, just like any other Suzanne Steele alpha male, except that Trent was an underground cage fighter and he bears the scars from that career. Trent has a particularly savage scar that runs from forehead to chin straight through his eyebrow, miraculously not taking his eye out, giving him a very scary appearance. After leaving fighting, Trent began developing apps, and found he could make millions at it, so much that he could be the hermit that he preferred to be, away from staring, horrified eyes.

Trent agrees to help Dr. Winslow on the condition that the Doctor sign off on his bill of clean mental health – after all, the Doctor is just asking that Trent fuck with the lady’s mind, move things around in her house a little when she’s not home – “gaslight” her. This is where the story goes off the rails for a little while. Kansas is having detailed, graphic BDSM sex dreams starring Trent, who she has never met, with his distinctive heterochromia, one blue and one brown iris. In her dreams she calls him Executioner because he wears an executioner’s hood, but the dreams take place in Trent’s dungeon/cellar, and the description in the dream is accurate based on the description when she is actually there later in the story. I wasn’t sure what I was reading. There is no indication that Kansas has any psychic or precognitive abilities – so no reason to believe her dreams would be accurately foretelling her future. For a while I thought Trent was drugging her and taking her out in the night then returning her – so that her “dreams” weren’t dreams at all. But not so – they were just dreams – and very confusing. I had to just forget about them and move on with the story once she was no longer having them.

Trent bugged Dr. Winslow’s office before agreeing to work with him, and when he figures out what he has planned for Kansas, and just how crazy the Doctor really is, Trent kidnaps Kansas to keep her safe. It doesn’t take long for Kansas to get attached to Trent, who she recognizes from her dreams and who she continues to call Executioner, because – wait for it – he actually HAS the executioner’s hood from her dream.

Losing Kansas doesn’t stop the Doctor, and Kansas and Trent have to call in some friends (who you will recognize if you are a Suzanne Steele reader) to save the girl and deal with the Doctor.

All in all, a sweet twisted little romance with a happily ever after for those of us who like a bit of kink with our sweet. If that’s not you, go read something else.

My review:

I was a bit lost at the beginning, as I was unsure weather she only dreamed about their first encounters or if they really happened. But once the story started to flow, this confusion dissapeared.

The obsession of Trent and the acceptance of said obsession from Kansas is the main focus of this book. It is completely disfunctional, bit both of the characters are scarred and disfunctional themselves. This seems to be the only way that they can relate to each other and it is consentual.

If you look past these aspects it is actually a touching book. Both of these characters are so scarred that they have trouble relating to anybody, yet they find acceptance with each other. This blossoms into more. I truly enjoyed this book.

I went back and re-read the description for this book when I finished it to see what I missed. Yeah, I'm still lost. In my opinion, the description does not provide the reader accurate details. But I started it, so I finished it. In the future, I'll do a better job of educating myself with the works of authors I'm unfamiliar with.

Kansas is a social worker who has to see Dr. Winslow, a therapist because of an incident at work. One of her clients committed suicide in front of her, and her boss requires this treatment. Dr. Winslow becomes intrigued with Kansas and decides to use her for a project he's working on.

Trent served in the military and also fought in underground cage-fighting. Now he's worth millions and develops computer apps while staying at home alone away from everyone. When a new client of his requests a mental assessment before purchasing an app patent, he begins seeing Dr. Winslow. The doctor discovers that Trent is attracted to Kansas upon seeing her leave one day, and uses this to his advantage. He tells Trent he'll sign off on his mental health if Trent helps him with his research and uses Kansas. Confused? Yeah, I was too.

Trent is a possessive control freak. He becomes obsessed with Kansas and takes her for her own protection. He knows he can keep her safe at his mansion and away from Dr. Winslow. Kansas has never felt loved or wanted, so she craves the way Trent makes her feel. Dr. Winslow is whacked. He's crazy and an odd man. I was confused for a good portion of this book and had a hard time following the events. It doesn't mean you won't like it. I just couldn't connect.

This tale of twisted love hooked me on the first page when I read this line - “Where do I go when I crave something sinister, something dangerous and forbidden?” Well, I pick up a Suzanne Steele book. Every story is dark and edgy. This one is no exception. If you like a story about an alpha male who will stop at nothing to get the woman he wants, look no further. Loved it!

The Executioner is a twisted tale of a man obsessed with one of his patients. His fantasies become reality when he begins to stalk and kidnap her for his pleasure. Vixen doesn't understand why she is reacting the way that she is to a sociopath but the fact remains that she is. If you like Twisted reads then this is one that you will enjoy. This author is a must read if you like a deep, psychological story.

So I was a bit lost in the beginning of this book with what was going on, but once it all made sense I was intrigued. This is a dark romance, so if you do not like that genre I would stop now. I love how the author includes characters from other books (Miller and Stormy from The Contract) though you do not need to read that story to understand this one. I have noticed this with the past few books of her that I have read. Can't wait for more from Suzanne!

Kitty was curious as a cat and you know what they say about curious cats. Well, in this tale Kitty's curiosity leads her to check out a BDSM website, where she unknowingly connects with a sadistic predator who decides to check her out. Kitty is treading dangerous water because this man will stop at nothing to get what he wants. A very believable intense story with intriguing characters.

DNF @ 50% ofzo.
