3 WHO-IS-DEREK STARS !

Before I start, there is a typo.. the male lead is spelled Derrick on some pages and Derek on others. Mostly the latter, so I'm assuming it is Derek.

Eve is given a chance for a breakthrough as a writer, but she has to write a story about Red--a sex club that has secrets Eve's about to discover. When she visits the club, she is intrigued and to her surprise, she is turned on. Then, she meets the mysterious Derek. She senses the chemistry between them and one dance with him has her ALMOST willing to do whatever he asks.

Whenever they touch, she sees flashes of images of them together--happy and in love. Eve doesn't understand this and what's even more strange, Derek seems to know her. Yet how could Eve forget this beautiful stranger?
Then, the moment she witnesses an unforgettable event, it changes her life forever...

This novella/short story was well.. extremely short. It took me a max of 15 minutes to read it. The plot was set up nicely. You are left wondering who Eve actually is and what connection she has with Derek. However, it was too short for me to decide whether I would enjoy the story. After all, this entire novella was only exposition. I will be reading the next book when I have the chance.

This book took me 2 hours to read, and 2 days to contemplate how to write the review.
First, it not a novella as its being called, its more of a short story. It didnt hold my attention like i hoped. The premise of the story gave me hope but i think there just wasnt enough. The female lead, takes annoying to a whole new level. Im not a fan of the females in any books but she really just urked me for some reason. She just couldnt hold me and im sorry to say that. To be honest, i think it needs more developing, and if it was longer and a bit more detailed, it would have some promise. They were absolutely not poorly written, they really just needed some more developing in my eyes.
Eve, going to the club thinking shes getting a big scoop is really in for a shocker when she discovers whats really going on. She's a very stuffy character, though i do admit, she starts to loosen up toward the end a bit. And for a stuffy girl, she certainly cant stop watching the sex going on in the club... Time will tell whats happens with her character.
Derek isnt so bad if he were a human male but hes supposed to be a vampire and hes a bit wishy washy with Eve for a vampire
For some of the story, i actually felt like i was brought into the middle and hadnt read the beginning, because it was presented like i should have already known. I need more of the situations explained to me. I just believe it needs to be a longer story. I realize it had a cliffhanger, which tells us it will have another installment, and that will hopefully give us more, but i think a few more chapters in the first book would have helped tremendously.
It definitely needs editing. The use of the word "are" for "our" is all throughout the story and its quite a bit distracting. I found my eyes going back to the word repeatedly
I did not dislike the idea of the story, but i did find it hard to hold my attention for the reason i mentioned already, and i absolutely will read the next installment with hopes that it will give me the light im looking for but did not receive in the first installment.

*I was given an ARC from Netgalley for my honest opinion.*

I don't like leaving negative reviews (or mildly negative) so I'm going to try and write this as respectively and constructively as I can. Bitten isn't a terrible book, however I did have a few qualms with it.

I understand the novella series craze lately, but there is a right way and a wrong way of ending a novella with a cliffhanger. Bitten ends very abruptly. So much so that I had to do a double take and go back and reread the last paragraph to make sure that I hadn't missed something. There is a way to "wrap up" a novella even when it has a cliffhanger that leaves the reader with a small sense of closure. After I finished reading Bitten I just sat there like well...okay. What the hell do I do now?

My other issues with Bitten are

1) the inconsistency of how the lead male's name is spelled. Is it Derek or Derrick? It was sort of distracting to have it jump back and forth between the two spellings. Now, as far as I know, my copy isn't "ready for print" so I'm assuming that more edits have been planned.

2) The sex scenes. *Mild spoiler* Nothing sexual happened to the main character, and because of that the steamy scenes were 'told' to the reader rather than shown. I didn't feel like I got the full effect of the steaminess because it was like I was hearing from a friend of a friend, if that makes sense.

NOW...that being said. I am interested enough in the story to want to know what happens next. It kept my attention and I read it in one sitting. That is why I rated it 3 stars.

As a persnickety lover of PNR & Urban Fantasy books, I am seriously picky when it comes to books that involve my favorite “Supe” of all time, that being, the sensual but deadly vampire. In my opinion, Ms. Black does a fairly good job with crafting an introduction to a series, that has a lot of potential.

Although I found the beginning to be a little choppy (i.e. editing issues, lag, flat dialogue), I later became captivated by this story, and after it ended, I scoured Amazon.com to see if I could obtain any info/pre-order links for Book 2.

Personally, I want to see what happens to the Chica who was TSTL, because any normal person with common sense would have picked up on certain "vibes," and ran away like their panties were on fire. Also, the metaphysical aspect of this story makes me hungry for more as well.

Normally, cliffhangers don’t bother me, but only if I become wrapped up in the story. In a way, I suppose that’s a good thing. Hopefully, Ms. Black will take some time to perfect her love of writing, because I believe she has a potential winner in her possession.

Giving this one: 3 solid stars

This story was way too short- I was not ready or expecting it to end so soon! I had been advised it was a cliff hanger in advance, but it seems like fifteen minutes later the story was over. On the flip side, the story was that good.
It pulls you in from the very beginning, and drops a plot bomb just a bit before the end, hinting at way more than what first appeared, leaving questions running through your mind but also a driving need for the next installment. I look forward to reading the next part! Once you read part one, you'll need to read the next regardless of what genre it is.
Will definitely recommend it to any and every one. Well done M. Black!

When Eve gets a chance to cover a story at a sex club. She's intrigued and determined to get her story. But when she meets Derek she forgets why she's there and is drawn to this mysterious stranger. While dancing Eve begins to get flashes of images of the past with her and Derek. If that isn't strange Derek acts as if they know each other. Scared and ready to leave Eve stumbles upon and secret that will change her life.

Though I enjoyed this short story. It could have been a tad longer. I was intrigued by the premise and I hope the next books in the series can deliver.

I was advised by the publisher that this was a short story and a cliffhanger, but I wasn't expecting it to end so abruptly. I actually went back and reread the last chapter because I thought I missed something. I'm not sure how I feel about this story. I have a lot of questions. Who's Fantasia, other than Jimmy's girlfriend because she was giving the orders at the end. Were Eve and Derek together in a previous life? Eve and Derek have chemistry, but I couldn't connect to them. Will it stop me from reading book #2...no. I'll have to read it to see if any of my questions are answered. ebook provided by netgalley for a honest review. reviewed on Goodreads and Amazon.

This is a very short very interesting story about a young reporter who was assigned to write an article about a Sex Club, but that wasn’t a regular sex club, when she arrived there, she found herself drawn to acts she never thought about witnessing or worst, doing them! And those things were very, very HOT and also intriguing. Sadly the story was so short, so the characters weren’t well developed and of course, it ends in a huge cliffhanger.

The vampiric topic was great, it felt a little True Blood-ish and I loved that part. Sexy vamps come to me! ;)

Described as a novella but I would call it a short story. This is a part 1 and ends with a cliffhanger. Interesting premise involving a reporter investigating a sex club. While there, she stumbles across vampires.

Has me intrigued.

Bitten is a short novella with a cliffhanger ending. the storyline gives you just enough spice and information to keep you reading for more, erotica meets paranormal in a sexy start to what can be a promising serial. i look forward to the next installment.
