Miss Rain wears a shimmery golden mask and dances with an unparalleled sensuous grace. Surely Oya, the Yoruba goddess of weather, has come to life. Because no mere human could mesmerise Dr Segun Akintola so and make him long for things he’s run from for a lifetime. Night after night he sits there with eyes only for her. Until she disappears into thin air. And still, night after night he goes looking for her. Will he ever see her again?

Oh this was such a good read with many twists and turns!

Dr. Segun finds himself infatuated with exotic dancer Miss Rain, and also the lovely med student Miriam Dogo. He was sprung at first sight, willing to do anything for those ladies which he did - OK.

Then you have Miriam AKA ms. Let’s Make It Happen. She was in medical school, working full time, and providing for her family while trying to keep herself afloat. Little did she know that Dr. Segun would step in to sweep her off her feet. My guy wasn’t playing

There’s blackmail, deceit, family drama, and so much love within these pages

CW: grooming, physical abuse & sexual assault

After the rain is a love story between Miriam- a medical students who strips on the side for money and Segun, a plastic surgeon who is enamored with a stripper whose identity he doesn't know.
Miriam is worried about only one thing; money. Ever since her father died and her mother fell sick, she has been trying to make ends meet and that included allowing her uncle pay for her mother's dialysis, incurring more debt on her head. Her uncle, who never gives anything for free wants Miriam to work as a stripper in his club to pay back her debt.
What happens when the man who regularly visited the club to watch her dance as Miss Rain is also the same man who is her medical supervisor?
I absolutely enjoyed reading this book, I liked how it talked about topics such as grooming, poverty, illness, sisterhood etc.
The only one thing I didn't like was the miscommunication between them when everything was going fine, I truly believe Miriam could have done the needful when an issue arose with her uncle.
Asides that, it was a very interesting read and I recommend it

I found this ok. Overall I think the plot dragged out and was pretty slow but it was a decent read.

Although the plot felt a bit predictable to me, I enjoyed the way the author wrote the story. I also like the way Mariam’s uncle was “dealt” with but do wish Halima also had a similar outcome however her apology and public shame still felt somewhat realistic

wonderful story

I always know when I read an Amaka Azie book, I will love it! And this new one did not disappoint. We meet Miriam who is a stripper and a medical student. She is trying to take care of herself and her family while being used by her uncle. She meets Segun who only knows her as Miss Rain until she starts to work with him temporarily. They fall fast but of course hit a few bumps along the way to happily ever after. Wonderful book!

‎After the rain is about a medical student who is drowning in debt, has a sick mother and a brother in a boarding secondary school. So she decides to do a job that is way out of her personality because she was told it lays well. The job was time consuming but she was determined to joggle both the job and her medical routine posting. After a long while, things started turnips smooth but the past could not just be left as the past.

‎Miriam is a medical student by day and an exotic dancer by night but hides her identity on stage to avoid being recognized.
‎Dr. Segun is a well-known Plastic Surgeon in Lagos, Nigeria who after a heart wrenching breakup decided not to date or go into relationship anymore. But what happens after watching a sensual dance by a masked girlband meeting his new mentee who has a similar physic to the dancer he fantasizes about?

‎This book explores the protagonist's double life, balancing her public persona as a dedicated medical student with her hidden role as a masked stripper.
‎The romance between between the student and her mentor, a plastic surgeon, is complicated by professor boundaries and personal risks, requiring sacrifices to pursue their connection.
‎This book also indicated the protagonist facing challenges (blackmail and family pressure) but grows through her journey, finding strength to reconcile her dual identifies and pursue love.

‎This prose is one that keeps you on your toes. Wanting you to skip to find out what's next and going back to read what you had skipped 😂
‎This book indicates a situation with everyone about being judgmental. Miriam actually said something about this when she realized that most of her colleagues at the club are learned but had to choose being a dancer because of it pay and condition.

‎Another thing I picked out from this book is relating to Segun. He told his brothers about what happened to him and they laughed at him, despite being a new young adult. This is similar to what happens in real life, male voices and thoughts are not heard and I loved that Segun's mom refused to let her son be bullied or abused even though she was years late.

‎Well, there's a lot to say so why not take this as a sign to read AFTER THE RAIN. Oh is a 10/10.

In my opinion, "After The Rain" by Amaka Azie is the most captivating of the Lagos Plastic Surgeons series.

The story unfolded at a perfect pace, allowing us readers to truly connect with Mariam, a character I absolutely adored in this book. She's the epitome of a good person: a loving daughter to her sick widowed mum, a caring friend, a dedicated student, fiercely loyal, and a fighter for her family.

Faced with a crippling debt owed to her evil and manipulative uncle, and need for money to continue pursuing her dream of becoming a doctor, Mariam took on a daring double life. By night, she sheds her skin as a medical student and transforms into the mesmerizing Miss Rain, a captivating masked stripper at her uncle's nightclub.

In this book, Amaka Azie masterfully portrayed the harsh realities that can push someone into such job, reminding us that appearances can be deceiving.

Dr. Segun is another standout character in this book. Despite being captivated by Miss Rain's grace on stage and being undeniably drawn to her, he saw beyond the mask. His concern for her well-being when she got 'missing' was heartwarming to read. Their love story unfolded beautifully, and was filled with excitement and a touch of drama that kept me glued to the pages. Thankfully, love prevailed in the end!

This book was satisfying to read, I thoroughly enjoyed it and I highly recommend it, along with the other two books in the Lagos Plastic Surgeon series.

I'm on a quest to read 14 books before the year runs out, so I can level up my year in books to 50 books, half of the amount I intended to read. Never again am I underestimating Bambooks utility in my reading life.

Anyway, I started After The Rain at about 4am this morning, slept for about 3 hours before continuing.

So to my review... I love stories about broken people. When I saw the blurb for After The Rain, I knew I'd love it and I did. I'm not sure if I'll be reading the other books in this series anytime soon, but I'm glad I read After The Rain. It gave everything I thought it would.

This is the part where I say that it has to be a crime for characters to be happy and there are still 100 pages left because...I was scared for Miriam and Segun. I don't think I have been this scared to know what happens next. Anyway, I loved how they resolved their issues.

This book reminded me of Fifty Shades of Gray sans the BDSM and the intensity, but After The Rain is steamy in its own right. I'm not sure I totally agree with some of the choices the characters made, but it was an enjoyable read.

I loved the description, particularly of the breast augmentation surgery. I could practically see the scene in my head. Well done to Amaka Azie.

Lastly, I'd like to beg that we should have Banji and Enitan's story. I was totally intrigued and I want to know more.

This book was truly an enjoyable and captivating read. I really loved how we were first introduced to the main characters, Segun and Miriam, and how their story gradually developed into a beautiful and heartwarming love story it was such a delight to witness. One thing that stood out to me was how the book introduced us to aspects of the plastic surgery field. At first , I believed plastic surgery was all about cosmetic enhancement, but through this story, I came to understand that it goes beyond just aesthetics. The book also highlighted some of the potential dangers involved and the importance of seeing a psychologist before undergoing surgery, which was quite enlightening.
The chemistry between Segun and Miriam felt very authentic, sensual and touching, regardless of the age gap between them. I also appreciated how sensitive themes like sexual assault and grooming were explored with care and depth. The relationship between Segun and his family was heartwarming and wholesome to read, and the bond between Miriam and her mum was also very beautiful to read. this book was rich in exploring various important themes and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone🥳❤️

I love Miriam Dogo aka miss rain alias the virgin stripper. I love the way she sticks to her goal despite all the challenges she faced and the problem her useless wicked uncle was creating for her and her family.

I admire the fact that she wasn't scared to reach out for whatever she wanted. Her sense of humour was unparalleled. The way her relationship with Dr Akintola grew and blossomed made me feel good and scared at the same time cos I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop. And when it dropped, it was dreadful and messy and really sad.

God damn the good for nothing Halimah, bloody paedophile . They are simply everywhere, preying on unsuspecting innocent victims.

Segun and Miriam were both victims who grew and healed together in the cocoon of their steamy sexy love. Those two are something else in and out of bed.

As usual, it was a page turner. I wasn't disappointed at all and loved every page of this beautiful love story.

This book held me spellbound because I wanted to see everything play out. I loved the themes discussed and teh author's writing style. My imagination was on point.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐬 in this book include; family drama, career, medical career, abuse, human trafficking/forced labour, romance.

𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞: I love Segun and Miriam’s love. I love the upfront honesty about their past. Miriam’s fear of quitting school like her mother for love and Segun’s predatory relationship as a teenager. I love how both families united to get them back together.

𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞: I couldn’t decide between Halima and Bossman so I chose both. They are despicable and deserve each other.

𝐑𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I enjoyed reading After the Rain. To be honest, I wasn't into it initially, but I got hooked at some point and bing-read till the end.

Loved the development between the main characters! Loved the depiction of hurt, trauma and anxiety surrounding love and the vulnerabilities that come with it! Loved the storyline!
Though, I'm quite unsatisfied with the end of the

After the Rain was a good read in all. It was nice, and sensual. 🫣

This is the third book in the Lagos Plastic Surgeon series, and after reading the first two, I’ll say it again, Amaka Azie writes really well.

That said, I read this particular one in a bit of a rush. At some point, it started to feel predictable, not the entire plot, but definitely a few parts. Still, I think one thing that stands out about Amaka’s writing is how she addresses real issues.

She tackles heavy themes, sexual exploitation, sex trafficking, human trafficking, and sexual abuse in a way that’s both thoughtful and impactful. It doesn’t feel overwhelming when you’re reading, but it still hits you with the weight of what’s being discussed.

Overall, I liked this book. I’d definitely read more of her work.

This book will have you hooked from start to finish. Segun and Miriam Dogo's story is filled with challenges but they navigated them well. Miriam did have me pulling at my hair because of an information she withheld but I forgive her.
The book is a slow-burn romance and Amaka Azie brought a bit of heat. I recommend!

This book was so good.
The reference on Oya, the Yoruba goddess of Water, the character and the character development.
The mention of pedophilia and human trafficking as subplot. The plot was solid, a very good storyline.
I'm also happy that Miriam wasn't portrayed as a weak woman; she was strong and resilient. Overall, it's a really beautiful story.

A wonderful rollercoaster of a love story. Miriam's struggles were heart wrenching, but they made her a stronger person. It was great to see Segun get sprung with love. Together they set the pages on fire all while struggling to get to their Happily Ever After.

This follows Miriam, a medical student who secretly strips to support her sick mother, and Dr. Segun, who doesn’t realize his favorite dancer is actually his own student.

The story touches on tough topics like poverty, family pressure, and blackmail but also shows love and hope along the way.

My only issue was the miscommunication near the end, it felt unnecessary cause I'm really not a fan of miscommunication trope, but overall, it was a heartfelt, a bit spicy read that I enjoyed reading.

3.5stars cause of the miscommunication trope
