Sociopath

Rate this book
The name's Aeron Lore. And you are...? Such a pleasure to meet you, sweetheart. Is that a southern accent? Gorgeous.

You fucking bitch.

Why so surprised? I control a billion dollar fortune. I control the news. Give me five minutes and I'll control you, too. If you could read my mind, you'd probably call me perverted. Unnatural. Manipulative. But I've learned to blend in, to be funny and charming. A predator in a designer suit.

I have no conscience. No shame in taking the things I want. And what I wanted was for Leontine Reeves to sell me her boutique tech firm so I could exploit the f**k out of it. Maybe exploit the f**k out of her, too, because desire haunts me in shades of scarlet, and I desire Leo most of all.

I never meant for this to be a love story. I fought it kicking and screaming, the same way Leo fought me. Now we're bleeding into each other, making a mess. A chaos. There's no control here. And what do monsters like me do when control leaves the building?

We attack.

WARNING: 18+. Contains abuse triggers and scenes that some may find disturbing.

I've had this book sitting on my TBR list for quite some time now. I love a dark, disturbing story, so I figured this would be right up my alley. Yet, despite the promising blurb and interesting storyline, this one just fell flat for me.

Aeron Lore is a great anti-hero, in that you love to hate him. He's a self-proclaimed sociopath, used to manipulating everyone around him in order to get what he wants. He's attractive, intelligent, arrogant and uncaring. However, to the outside world, he is whatever he wants you to see.

When Aeron sets his sights on Leontine Reeves, he will stop at nothing to have her. Boundaries do not apply to Aeron, as he refuses to recognize any rules but his own. Quickly, his behaviors become controlling, invasive and flat-out scary.

Yet, for every red flag that he raises, Leo is inexplicably drawn to this nut job! Honestly, I thought they were both crazy. Not surprisingly, Aeron likes to slice and dice his partners during sex as well. Here's your sign, Leo!

All else aside, my biggest problem with this story was that it felt too cold. I didn't expect to feel too much, being that the story was largely told from the POV of a sociopath. However, I need to feel some sort of connection to the characters to enjoy the story.

For me, that connection never developed. I couldn't have cared less when either character lay bleeding after one of their many heated encounters...and that's a problem. Even when the big secrets were revealed, I couldn't feign interest.

Overall, I give this story 2 1/2 stars, rounded up. Sociopath or not, I need to feel some sort of bond to the characters or some redeeming qualities. It just didn't happen this time. I felt about as attached to Aeron as he did to the plethora of disposable people in his life, which is to say not at all.

Woah. This book totally messed with my mind. Even now, as I write my review, I still have no idea what to think... But without a doubt was very well written and downright FASCINATING.

This is a standalone dark romance (yes, there is a love story) and I'm not gonna lie that some parts made me very uncomfortable (it's really not for the faint of heart!!) but I found myself SO curious about this guy and the way he looked at the world. Here's a taste into the mind of Aeron Lore...

“I control a billion dollar fortune. I control the news. Give me five minutes and I’ll control you, too. If you could read my mind, you’d probably call me perverted. Unnatural. Manipulative. But I’ve learned to blend in, to be funny and charming. A predator in a designer suit.

I never meant for this to be a love story…

There’s no control here. And what do monsters like me do when control leaves the building?

We attack.”

It was a twisted mind fuck of a read! As per the title of the book, the hero was a sociopath and the entire book is told to us from his POV -- as though you're reading his mind and experiencing his every thought. His inner voice was just fascinating. I know I keep coming back to that word, but its the best one that fits.

"I don't want to be a hero. Not unless it serves a purpose. I like the shadows better, where the dark things hide."

This guy literally had no conscience... but I wouldn't say he was a monster. He wasn't evil, he was just... self-serving. He was highly intelligent -- a self-made millionaire -- with gorgeous body, a trustworthy face, kinky bedroom preferences, and a dark secret in his past that he went to great lengths to keep hidden. It was such an interesting balance. In so many cases, he showed a side of him that made you feel like he was caring, but when you saw the reason behind it -- the cool logic -- it made you second guess everything you were seeing and feeling. His own personal gain was the most important thing to him, but his purpose was never to hurt anyone maliciously. He just didn't really care about them. Much.

"I got nothing. There's just an empty space where my fucks ought to be."

This isn't really a heart-in-your-throat intense page turner. In fact, the pacing is generally slow, and it didn't evoke any strong emotions from me, but I found it was more of a book that I just could not stop reading because I was just so intrigued by the story and this character and his unique view of the world.

The writing was the highlight of the book for me. I thought this author did a fantastic job of capturing this guy's voice and making you genuinely believe in his character.

I will warn you though that there are some things in the book that will undoubtedly make some readers uncomfortable. The only reason that I "went along" with it was that it was all consensual. Both him and the heroine wanted what he did so I tried to be accepting even though it kinda made me cringe. There's no rape or beating or anything. His kink is that he cuts her during sex -- not gruesomely, just like a 1-inch cut somewhere -- and the thing is that she liked it too. This was something they both enjoyed... and because of that, I tried to not judge even though it went way outside my comfort zone and kinda grossed me out.

Remember too that this is a love story. A deeply twisted love story, but it definitely is one. The question at the heart of it is -- Can a sociopath fall in love? ... Well, it seems they can. But, like with everything else about them, it's in a very different way. And it takes a very special type of partner to be with them.

"Why aren't you afraid of me?"

Honestly, I don't think this book will be for everyone. Personally I really enjoyed it, and I loved the writing, but I know this isn't a book that everyone will unanimously love. It'll be up to each reader to decide for themselves. But if you're a fan of darker romance and mind-fucky reads, and you're in the mood for something really different, then definitely give this a try!

I have no idea what to rate it. That's not a bad thing at all, so please don't think that. It's just that I find with some books that it's simply too hard to label my feelings with a single number.

Standalone dark romance. No cheating, no triangle, some violence, some things that'll be uncomfortable to read, but nothing non-consensual. HEA.

3 You're a HYPOCHONDRIAC not a SOCIOPATH STARS

Now I've given a lot of thought to what exactly went wrong for me while I read this book, and it's come to my attention that from the very beginning this book was never going to make it past the 3 star mark.

Why?

It probably started when the main character, Aeron who is a self-diagnosed Sociopath spoke to me the reader. His thought process was methodical, shameless and completely selfish. He told me how he perceived the world and people around him and quite frankly he really didn't think much of it all. He told me how particular he was when he was looking for his next lay, and how not just anyone would do. Here is a man ladies, that will use sex as a form of release and well... your needs come second. Text book asshole behaviour which I don't have a problem. My problem arose when said Sociopath, told me about the extensive research he'd done on the condition/affliction. Now correct if I'm wrong, yes sociopaths are very intelligent people. But one thing I imagine is that a sociopath does not research his condition, he may research how to mask it but not the characteristics of his behaviour. Which is what Aeron lead me to believe he had done, research his condition that is.

One of the biggest misconceptions about sociopaths is that we don't know what we are. Which is bullshit. We vary in levels of intelligence of self-awareness, just like anyone else; I of course, was repeatedly beaten with the superior end of the stick. I fell out of the better-than-you tree.

Me: Yes, yes Aeron, I get it. But seeing as you're the only sociopath who's said this I'm going to have to read a few more books with sociopaths as main characters. But for now, I call bullshit.

Now Aeron the self diagnosed sociopath, meets Leo when he approaches her regarding the sale of her company. Leo is a techie, I didn't really catch on to what Leo's job description was but she basically works in surveillance of the public kind. She developed a tiny camera that could be worn behind the ear, therefore allowing the user to record his surroundings. Now a lot of detail went into the where and what for of what Leo and Aeron did for a living and quite honestly I got bored of it.

I digress.

Come hunting with me, grasshoppers.
I'mma catch me a lion.

Aeron seemed to fall really quickly for Leo, I mean he was on the right path for a bit stalking her and creeping about, and also showing signs of obsession. But he became a doting lover rather quickly. He showed signs of empathy, compassion, not for anyone else but for her. Doesn't matter, this is completely out of character, yes he should find a twisted version of love but I felt like his character deviated from his condition.
I mean what the hell happened?
Did meeting Leontine cure him?

Of all the places I could find religion, lets be honest-it was always going to be in a pussy. I just never guessed it would be hers. Is that what all has been about, the seduction? Leaving offerings at her altar, putting my face in the hymn book and conjuring prayers...?

And finally I come back to my earlier statement. Too much saying and nothing to validate himself.

Unfortunately Aeron you're going to have to do a lot more than stalking and telling me how badass you are to convince me. Past transgressions do not count because quite frankly you were young and had a fucked up upbringing. Doesn't make what you did right, it just makes your actions understandable.

You need to look into OCD, apart from hypochondriac behavioural patterns. Yes, I know that being a sociopath is probably a combination of a few disorders but you my friend are way too desperate.

Disclaimer: These are just my thoughts, just because I didn't enjoy it, doesn't me you won't. Read it and make your own opinion.

3.5 SOCIOPATH STARS ★★★☆

"Pain is useless without pleasure. One highlights the other, and the tension that simmers between them is the sweetest lines to cross."

When the word sociopath comes to mind, the first person that automatically pops into my head is none other than..

Yeap that's right I'm a Cumberbitch. Well *ahem* no shit Sherlock.

Anyways. Sociopaths, psychopaths, serial killers, Dexter Morgan; they're all up my damn alley, I love to hate them and I hate to love them (except I really love Dexter). So it's no surprise that this book drew me in just by the title alone.

********

Sociopath brings you into the mind of Aeron Lore, billionaire extraordinaire who owns Lore Incorporated, a renowned news corporation. Calm, controlling and manipulative, he believes he can win in any game he plays in. This time his latest acquisition? To own Leontine Reeves and her newly established tech company.

"I collect heart-shaped asses. They taste better when you bite them, see; bleed more, too, depending on where you go in. Leontine Reeves looks like a bleeder.
Fuck, she's going to make me so much money."

********

Let's just say that Aeron Lore sure has one helluva twisted mind. The book is told entirely from his POV and we get glimpses of his past and present, which allowed us tap into his psyche and even back in his younger days, you’ll get the chills seeing what this man is capable of. I really enjoyed how the author wrote out his thought process; very manipulative & well thought-out and you can tell that he knows how to play his game well.

"I'm self-serving. Impulsive. I like to please myself, and my desires quiver like dominoes all set up and waiting for the right stroke to make them fall."

Another thing I enjoyed was how Aeron’s inner monologues felt like he was engaging with us, the readers which elevated the reading experience for me. As much as I was keen to see where this brilliant twisted mind would take us, I felt like I needed more than just his twisted thoughts. I mean, I love living inside his head but at some point I felt that he needed to start putting his money where his mouth is.

Leo's character was a bit fuzzy for me throughout the book; which ended up being a good and bad thing. Good because I can't tell what her exact deal is which intrigued me, but bad because this doesn't allow me to connect or embrace her character. Perhaps it would have been better to have little glimpses into her mind because at certain parts, I was a little confused by her change in behaviour/actions, which in turn also left me rather disconnected from Aeron/Leo's relationship.

"We are like a cut, aren't we? Everything between us just bleeds and bleeds."

********

Overall I felt the read had a really intriguing premise that had a great potential but was dragged out a little too long in some parts where I was expecting more action. The writing was decent with a lot of dry humor which I could appreciate and although it was a little draggy at times, I still found myself very engrossed with the read.

No doubt it still had its own personal twists; some I saw coming, some I did not. Sadly not just quite the mindfuckery that would blow me away. But for a debut novel, I still felt that Ms Craven did an amazing job writing Aeron’s dark twisted mind and had the story expanded more on his actions, I would loved it better. I would still recommend this read if you've ever wondered what it's like to be inside a sociopath's mind.

Setting: New York
POVs:
Triggers? Yes.

Aeron Lore is a media mogul. Leontine Reeves is an Ivy League graduate who’s created something Lore wants. Badly.

I had such high hopes for this story and really liked Lore’s dry humor, abrasive tone, and keen business sense. His nonverbal and shady ways of communicating with his businesss adversaries was hilarious! When he wasn’t preying on Leontine, his business acumen highlighted just how merciless he was from a professional standpoint. While I expected this story to be an erotic thriller, the meatier storyline where a mysterious someone dug up Lore’s not too pretty past and attempted to blackmail him was most exciting to watch unfold!

Unfortunately, I didn’t entirely love any of the main characters and I hated that Lore frequently addressed the reader as “grasshoppers” or “sports fans.” On the upside, while Lore was a detestable character, he was also quite amusing! His thoughts?

Maybe I'll log on to those cutter sites again and refresh my memory on the safe spots. A true gentleman avoids main arteries, hmm?

▣ God, I love a good superiority complex in a woman. On some level, she loves that I challenge it, too. We're sandpaper, rubbing each other in all sorts of painful ways, but she doesn't realise until one of us is bleeding—even then, she can't resist a taste.

▣ Her ass is like something from Alice in Wonderland—eat me, drink me. That book needed another bottle that said fuck me. Alice would've been less of a bitter cunt and the book would've been vastly improved.

His less pretty thoughts?

Least favorite scene?

The line between sexual assault and consensual but rough foreplay was blurred. It had my head spinning and I found Lore’s predatory thoughts unnerving! Leo didn’t reciprocate the same level of want that Lore demonstrated by the end of the story and I never felt like I fully knew her character. As a result, the epilogue didn’t seem to fall completely in line with the little bits fed of Leo’s character, but I still liked the final conclusion of this story.

4 sociopathic stars

Well, this was definitely dark and really quite erotic but it’s not for the faint at heart as Aeron Lore likes to play hard and right on the edge. I guess at the centre of the story is the BIG question – can a sociopath ever truly fall in love or is he just self-righteously serving himself for his own motivations? I’ll leave you to decide when you’ve read through to the very end because, even though the words are said, I still believe that it’s open to interpretation.

The story is told from our sociopath, Aeron Lore’s point of view and being inside his head is definitely not a comfortable place to be. He’s not one of the nice boys – he’s absolutely an anti-hero. He actually reminded me a lot of Leonardo Di Caprio’s character from Wolf of Wall Street, Jordan Belfort. He’s ambitious, avaricious, capricious and ultimately really rather malicious and his story is a bit of a hedonistic and egotistical tale of depravity which at once enthrals and captivates and yet manages to appal the reader too. Safe to say – it’s a mind fuck of epic proportions as I found myself actually rooting for someone who is a gamma hero, at best and really far more of a villain, if I’m honest.

Often, I found myself wondering whether the narrative was actually celebrating his villainy rather than serving as a cautionary tale and wondered if Lime Craven was rubbing her hands in glee as she wrote some of his darker scenes. He’s not easy to like that’s for sure and when his darker sexual proclivities are revealed, I confess to squirming a little because of his mind set – this isn’t the controlled and caring dom we’re often treated to in erotic romance. No, this is a sociopath that’s definitely dipping one toe into the psychopath pool. In the end, I decided to just go with the ride because the style is really rather witty and dry and the book often had me smiling to myself and, even though it’s all kinds of wrong, it’s actually very engaging and a thrilling read.

I found it very hard to warm to Aeron’s little Lion – Leontine herself. I did find myself pitying her because, with our reader’s birds eye view, we’ve got a much bigger picture of the situation than she has and we know what’s coming but, mostly, I just didn’t like her and didn’t care too much what was about to happen to her. She had few redeeming features if I’m brutally honest – even Aeron is raising his little brother, even if it is just for show!

It’s an exuberant romp that I think will keep you entertained whatever your opinion of Aeron turns out to be and definitely this offers something a little different, even for the dark erotica genre. Just be prepared to squirm and shudder and, for my part, not really like the main protagonists. So, I think that if you like your romances darker than dark, then this will probably appeal to you – if you like to discover a lighter and more noble side to your tortured hero and ultimately true love at the end of the story, then this probably isn’t the one for you. Definitely one for the darker romance junkies.

Four Seriously F$cked-Up Stars!

No? Well Sociopath may be your first!

What a seriously twisted read. Sociopath is totally written within the mind of Aeron Lore, a sociopath with deep seated desires he superbly hides from the public. A successful, rich owner of several news companies, he's the picture of control, dominance, and success. Even down to the warm color of his office, the placement of his mirrors, all a play on making people feel comfortable. But enter his mind...all bets are off.

When I read the book blurb, I knew I had to get my greedy hands on this. Call me a freak, but I love a dark, twisted "love story." (I use that term very loosely). Even if it was a bit (a lot) scary. **Cue in creepy music***

 photo 72B0C9AB-1A85-4C7D-B844-70A95C87A500_zpsktqbdjs7.gif

I'd enter this one fairly blind. As you read my review, I'd say to avoid reading many to experience the unfolding of his story one eerie chapter at a time. Sociopath is written completely in Aeron's POV, as if he's talking to you, the reader. He goes back and forth between his childhood (again, twisted) to current day. When Aeron sets eyes on Leontine, developer of a hidden camera company, he's obsessed. His hands itch to touch her, to breech her in the most sadistic ways. So, in all his powerful stunts, he finds a way to get her into his clutches. His desires are twisted as he plans for her to ache for his pain...beg for it.

The ending. Omg. Wait for it... Did I mention mind fuck? No spoilers here.

The only reason I dropped a star is I felt his character development was superb yet we didn't get as much doing as he was telling. I hope this makes sense? I don't want to spoil things. I think a reader will understand what I mean after reading it. I felt like most of the book was background to his psyche. The actual happenings all kinda got lumped in the last third. And what a ride that was!

I love the Lime Craven's 'voice.' If this is seriously her first book, I'm amazed and impressed as hell. I think she has the potential to write some seriously twisted, dark mind-fucks in her writing future. Her character development of Aeron was FLAWLESS. Gimme me action, scenes, and it's a solid 5 star read.

Looking forward to more from Ms. Craven.

Provocative and compelling story!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙🤎🖤❤️💜
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌏🌏🌍
Character development: 😠☺️😋😎🥰

The Hero: Aeron - he has known he was a sociopath since he was a child. He learned to fit in and as he grew up, he built a global news empire to rival the best of them. He is wealthy and has little morals and has his sights set on acquiring a tech company called SilentWitn3ss which is run by Leontine Reeves.

The heroine: Leo - she is a Harvard graduate who started SilentWitn3ss in her junior year. It is an up and coming tech firm which developed small wearable personal video camera’s that are able to upload product directly to services such as youTube. It is a platform that makes the everyman able to capture news in a new way which is why Aeron Lore wants it for his media empire.

The Story: Aeron is immediately attracted to Leontine and soon becomes obsessed with her. However, she has secrets of her own. Aeron has a large competitor he is trying to take down a notch and he also has someone wanting to write his unauthorized biography, so he has a lot going on in his business and in his life.

I love that this book is told from Aeron’s point of view and that we are getting a good look into his mind. He is a sociopath and is not able to love, but he is able to feel emotions about certain things, just selfish emotions and he goes after what he wants without any compunction or remorse. He definitely goes after Leo that way. She is attracted to him, but she knows what kind of person he is, so she fears him.

"You'd make an excellent sociopath. Just work on your cannibalism, or something."
I pull myself to standing. "Right."
"Or maybe psychopath. Cannibals are psychopaths, right?" she calls.
"There's no difference." I glance back, careful to catch her eye. "They just started using sociopath because too many professionals mistook psychopath to mean psychotic."

I read this book about 5 years ago and at the time I really loved it. I thought it was hilarious how Aeron just did what he wanted no matter what. He was so deadpan about the fact that he did things that would be illegal and you could really see that he felt nothing about doing things that most people would consider to be wrong.

Aeron is a very likable character, even considering that he fakes his way through life so that people don’t figure out how much of a sociopath he really is. It’s his mind and his thoughts that are great and I love getting this peek into his motivations for the things he does. He has deviant sexual proclivities and he makes no bones about it.

Genre: Dark Romance
Type: Standalone Book 1 from Sociopath series
POV: First Person - Male
Rating:

Aeron Lore was a highly successful media mogul. He credited his success to his ruthless business moves paired with his lack of conscience. What he wanted, he’ll get it one way or another and his latest ambition was set on a small tech company that will take his empire to the next level.

Leontine Reeves was a young owner of the tech company SilentWitn3ss with an idealistic plan for the future. She tried to protect her company and her heart from Aeron’s clutch, but he proved to be too hard to deny.

I have this book for a long time but never really got to chance to read it. I’m glad I finally did. It is more on the disturbing side of the dark spectrum, but hey, I’m not choosy when it comes to the dark side :p

Empathy. Jeez. Too much and you're just an annoyance; too little and you're suddenly dangerous.

I am naturally attracted to anti-heroes but Aeron was actually quite annoying to me. He was quick witted with sharp tongue and my opinion on him hardly wavered until the very end. I did end up liking him after all. And no matter how possibly disturbing it might be, I did like that he had a certain proclivity.

Leontine was an interesting character. She was strong, yet she had a dark side that made her vulnerable to him. I like how she allowed him to push her beyond her comfort zone.

Rules: I bend them.
Laws: I break them.
There's not a smart mouth in this world that I can't buy.

This book had an interesting concept of being in the mind of a psychopath. The narrative provided intimate details of Aeron's uncensored inner thoughts. However, that was also the reason I found him annoying. There were too much of him bragging about his sociopathic "skills" without actually proving it in his actions.

It took me quite a while to get into the story due to the slow pace of earlier parts. There were things going on but not much of an action when it comes to resolving it. I'm glad the last 30% or so was much more engaging when the story changed directions. I also love seeing how Aeron rationalized his inner conflicts and adapted.

One of my favorite things about this book is the use of words at the start of each chapter. What special about it is how Aeron defined the words. It became like an interesting peek of his mind before the story unfold.

I'm practising, I told her. And I don't even know why I said that, but it felt right coming out of my mouth.

The look into his past before the start of each chapters provided us with a glimpse of what made him the way he was. Personally, I think it’s much more interesting than what he became.

Sociopath is an interesting look into the mind of a man without conscience and how he navigated through life even with curveballs thrown at him. There were some scenes that might be disturbing to some.

description

Aeron Lore is a media mogul who clearly exhibits sociopathic tendencies. From a young age he knew he was different, but his mother taught him how to camouflage his true cravings in an effort to make Aeron appear normal. Of course, being handsome, successful, athletic, wealthy and smart made it a little easier for him to fool people. Since Aeron was 17, he hasn’t really had the urge to connect with someone until now and Leontine becomes his obsession. Knowing his propensities, Aeron is aware that consequences can be costly and messy.

“Pain is useless without pleasure. One highlights the other, and the tension that simmers between them is the sweetest of lines to cross.”

Leontine Reeves is a Harvard graduate and founder of SilentWitn3ss, a tech firm that designs surveillance software. On the outside, Leontine is a hard worker and extremely dedicated to her invention and company. When Lore Corporation offers to purchase SilentWitn3ss, she must make a decision based on the best interest of her company. Leontine doesn’t expect to have any connection to Aeron beyond business but when her feelings start to get clouded everything becomes complicated. Secrets are unveiled and obsession leads to darkness.

“They taste better when you bite them, see, bleed more too, depending on where you go in. Leontine Reeves looks like a bleeder.”

This book leads the reader in a certain path and I think the plot charting and narrative point of view enhances the moody dark tone. In my opinion, by having the book told from Aeron’s POV forces the reader to probe into the mind of a sociopath - and not necessarily to invoke empathy but to also simply experience how warped he can be. There were brief moments in the beginning when I hoped Aeron could evolve, but those moments quickly evaporated, as I wanted to see how far we could delve into his psyche and depravity. Adding to Aeron’s character development were the chapters that reverted to his childhood and past memories, as those chapters made the strongest impact upon me. In all, I liked Aeron with his arrogance, self-aggrandizement and dry humor. Oh, and let’s not forget his deviant tastes - that provided for some hot scenes.

The sticky point for me was Leontine. I liked that she was smart, complicated and had significant issues of her own, but I never warmed up to her even until the last word of the book. With the book told from Aeron’s POV, the reader only sees his view and while that enhances the unknown in the plot arc, it made me feel like Leontine’s actions and motives were out of left field even though we did get explanation, albeit brief. Since her issues trumped Aeron’s - in my opinion - I would have liked the opportunity to swim in the deep end of her craziness for a while. Despite feeling distant from Leo, she successfully disturbs the power balance Aeron is used to manipulating; thereby, retaining his interest.

Overall, I enjoyed the author’s style of writing and her ability to get into the mind of her characters. I will definitely read other books by Lime Craven.

Corruption (noun): acceptance of the fact that 'nice boys' still conduct school shootings, and the best place to find a 'nice girl' is on the end of a bastard's dick ..

Oh my god , this book was a total surprise !!!

Ahem , ladies let me introduce to you Aeron fuckin Lore , the self confessed Sociopath . Aeron is nasty , Aeron is mean and he is a manupilative son of a bitch ! Oh but be warned , he can totally fool you into thinking he is your average joe , the yummy guy next door , the prince charming you've always dreamt of ..

Aeron Lore is all about success .. He gets what he wants , and what he wants right now is Leontine Reeves ... and her invention .

Now meet Leontine Reeves .. Mostly clueless , sometimes brave lioness who is onto something where Aeron Lore is concerned . What is she onto ? Well you'll just have to read the book and find that out .

Aeron thinks he has Leontine all figured out , Leontine thinks she has Aeron where she wants him to be .. But what is the reality of their situation ?

My thoughts :

Aeron could easily be a very despised character , but I think that's where the beauty lies . He is honest . He knows what he is , who he is and is not afraid to use it . He might have gotten my ego bruised with his superiority complex , but I'd be lying if I told you that he didn't turm me on something fierce .. There is just something about him that makes you wanna know what's underneath that facade ... some thing dark and sinister-y ... even if it may end up with you somewhere getting your brain checked , but hey guess what ....

Aeron and Leontine are match made in fucked up heaven

... both of them game changers in their own way ... I've always believed that someone out there is made specifically just for you .. The other half of your soul who looks at your weakness as your strengths , someone who is gonna make your imperfections look like perfections . Aeron and Leontine were that for each other ...

My only complain is that the book could've given us a bit more info about Aeron's mom and dad .. I also wanted a few Leontine POV's ..

But on the whole . Lime Craven has a new fan ! Definitely looking forward to reading more from her !

4.5/5 BUTTON-EYED-DOLL STARS!

LEONTINE & AERON

Obsession eats everything that desire leaves behind.
Aeron Lore seems to be a normal business man that works to quench his desire to make money. However, the gentleman facade he puts up is definitely not who he is. He hates the beige color of his walls, yet he keeps it because its what other people like. It makes his office more comfortable, in turn would make people trust him. Every word and action is to gain the trust of his opponent and then manipulating it to help his cause. After all, what is business without it?
Trust (noun): the warm, fuzzy realization that you have way too much dirt on someone for them to fuck you over.
Then, Aeron meets Leontine Reeves aka lioness. And everything changes. She owns a company that can make him a loooooooooooooot of money (See the amount of o's I put there? That's how Aeron feels about it). He uses his normal tactics on her to make her sign the contract, but what he doesn't expect is her fiery attitude to match her name.

When she refuses to budge and declines his offer, Aeron is forced to go beyond and as he gets to know the fiery lioness, even he does not understand the feelings that start to develop. She makes him want to drag her home and fuck her thoroughly--his way.
I'll have her, every inch, and she'll sweat and shiver in these curious hands. I allow myself so few women; each one must be special. Perfect. Worth the wait. And Leontine brought my her bedroom eyes; I know what she wants. What I want is something different entirely. I'll take it anyway. It's what I do.

On the other hand, not only does lust start to crowd his vision, his tenderness towards her makes him question himself.
Can sociopaths fall in love?
Aeron is left to ponder that question (with the help of Google, of course). As Aeron and Leo become closer, secrets and grudges from the past come to light and have the potential to destroy everything. (I'm not joking in the slightest about everything...)

--

I don't know what to feel after finishing Sociopath. I'm left with the feeling of emptiness knowing that there is no more to Aeron and Leo's story. This really was a fantastic read. Definitely exceeded my expectations--though, I actually didn't know what I was expecting. It had the perfect amount mindfuck moments. It wasn't too over the top, but at the same time, it was enough to leave you shocked and go, "What the fuck is going on??" I'm not an avid reader of dark romances, after all, I am MOST of the time an unicorns, cupcakes, HEA endings person, but I enjoyed this book A LOT!!! Maybe a little too much... I did however highlight the shit out of the ARC. I have at least 10 pages worth of highlights. Sorry not sorry ;)

'Watch, grasshoppers, and learn.'

Genre:
Cover: 7/10
Writing: 8/10
Heroine:
Hero:
Humour: 4/10
Hotness:
Romance:
Extra book Details: Hero POV; 1st person. Approx 400 pages. Stand-alone.

When self-confessed Sociopath and multiple News corp owner, Aeron, wants to buy out Leontine's little tech firm SilentWitn3ss aka 'Instagram for the news', he finds himself with a new obsession.

'There are men who collect hearts. I collect heart-shaped asses. They taste better when you bite them, see; bleed more, too, depending on where you fo in.
Leontine Reeves looks like a bleeder.
Fuck, she's going to make me so much money.'

Yeah, I missed out some ratings. Because this book is sooooo hard to rate.

Did I like either of the LC's? I dunno. Was it hot? I dunno. Was it romantic? I DUNNO.

It started GREAT. Aeron came across as a mix between Bateman from American Psycho (sociopath, obsessive, wicked) and Drew from Tangled (speaks to the reader in an educating way, sharp wit and a sharp tongue).
He was an awesome asshole with the added x-factor of psychosis.
Aeron said things like 'If her skeletons ever left the closet, it'd be like Dawn of the fucking Dead'.
He made me huff in amusement and disbelief.

I started falling disinterested at about 30%. The romance, sex and story all fell flat for me. Because the real Leontine isn't revealed until the end, I didn't 'get' what made her so interested in Aeron. I didn't 'feel' them as a couple. And the sex was interesting (with the cutting and all), but not erotic, for me, anyway.
Some quotes for eg;
'She utters little hmphs as I rub my stubble along the sensitive skin there, ushering blood to the surface in flushed, scattered clouds.' and 'I dip my tongue right in and lick along all I can reach, 'til I plough through stickiness that tastes like water and wine.'

I did, however, really LOVE Aeron's relationships with Ash, his Manny – Ethan, his PA Tuij, even his relationships with his Mother and Rachel. They were either interesting, fun or eyebrow-raisingly fucked up.

Aeron was a good entertaining character. But I felt that I needed a better heroine and for him to have a more inspiring relationship with her.

Every once in a while I enjoy a dark read. Sociopath satisfied my urges and left me thinking…..

I am still reeling from the side affects - Lime Craven seriously screwed with my head. This was a dark, twisted, nail biting angsty tale laced with several characters that exhibit disturbing behavioral issues. It is not a read for the faint of heart and if “triggers” turn you off, heed the disclaimer before diving in. There is a goodly amount of situations that may be considering troubling. You’ve been warned. So if you are brave, buckle up and prepare yourself for total mind-fuckery.

Aeron Lore. An accomplished and obscenely wealthy businessman led me on a head-trip like no other. Psycho’s Norman Bates, with all his mommy issues, has nothing on him. Aeron’s unstable childhood was tainted by a certifiably insane mother and thus, developed the taste for bloodthirsty kink. Once I began the journey, I was drawn into the inner sanctum of a madman’s mind. He is a man detached from emotions yet obsessed with success, achievements and a beautiful woman. His character was brilliantly written. Although, I must confess I could not connect with his persona, but was utterly fascinated by him nonetheless. His thoughts and actions were sheer lunacy.

The object of his obsession is the stunning yet equally cuckoo, Leo (Leotine). Once Aeron sets his eyes upon his lioness, he stops at absolutely nothing to claim her…all of her. He is a total Alpha-male consumed by lust and driven by his insatiable sexual desires.

Aeron and Leo have a strained relationship, both in the business world and in the bedroom, where Aeron’s dominance is supreme. Both these characters have deep, mysterious secrets that take time to unearth. Along the way there are several suspenseful plot twists and intense moments. Whenever I thought I grasped the story, the author cleverly spins Leo and Aeron’s world on its axis.

The physical connection, for me, was not passionate or romantic. There was no conventional depiction of ‘love’. Well, there wouldn’t be since both, in my opinion, are sociopaths. To be honest, it took some effort to make my way around a few of the sex scenes. But the struggle was worth it as it exemplified Aeron’s craving for control over Leo, his ‘canvas’.

Reading Sociopath was a unique experience. I viewed it as more of a psychological/suspense read rather than a romance. With that being said, it was an exceptionally well-written good read for me. The story was told from Aeron’s POV, but from time to time he addressed his thoughts directly to the reader…adding an extra layer of eeriness to the story and more insight into his beautifully demented mind. Craven masterfully shifted from first to second person POV, allowing the story to flow. If you are looking for an intense type of tale, Sociopath will not disappoint.

4 Mindfuck Stars!

This book is brilliant! Had me at the synopsis I mean look at it doesn't it sound like a awesome book? Doesn't it intrigue you? Well it totally made me want to get my hands on it since I love a dark twisted read.Everyone needs a good mindfuck once in a while ;)

Trust (Noun):the warm, fuzzy realisation that you have way too much dirt on someone for them to fuck you over.

This is Lime Craven's debut novel and I'm totally impressed.Bravo Lime Craven you have another fan right here.I can't wait to see what other books will be written by this author and read them all.I loved the way this book was written throughout this book you are in the sociopath Aeron's head and he is speaking directly to you.Let me start by saying I am intrigued by all things psychopath, sociopath, serial killers and so on. I've always wanted to study them and find out why they do the things they do, (Dexter is also one of my top fav shows) so this was definitely right up my street!

'Boys get picked on for owning dolls, but nobody gives a shit if a grown man buys himself a pretty puppet. And this, my friends, is the world we have built for ourselves.'

I read a few reviews where people feel like they couldn't connect with Aeron and it was too much being in his head and so on. That really wasn't the case for me I enjoyed it and a lot of things he said I found quite amusing. He kept me interested, I didn't want to stop reading, I had to continue.I had to know what would happen next, where would the story go? What kind of secrets would be unfolded? This wasn't a fast-paced book like I expected it to be yet the way it was written made you want to read on.It was like if you stopped now you would always be left wondering what would have happened.

'A rich man desires little but the things he cannot buy'

This is a dark read not the darkest I've read but some people wouldn't be able to handle some of the scenes which were disturbing. There is no rape or beating but the main character have dark kinky and twisted taste. Leontine Reeves is another character with many layers, whilst we are trying to figure out Aeron we forget about Leontine at times which is a mistake. Both these characters harbor secrets which can destroy the other but in the end what will happen?

..I feel a lot of things; just not for other people. I'm self-serving.

Can a man without a conscience, who only thinks about how things would affect him..Can he fall in love? Are sociopaths able to love or does it become more of an obsession? A dark need to obtain?

'Love is just a scar you can't see'

I think it would have been a full 5 stars if the ending wasn't as rushed I felt like I got thrown a load of information at the end and I wanted more. Some parts I felt like should have been more detailed stuff about Aeron's mother and father. And I wanted to know more about how Aeron was with Ash. I just wanted more, I didn't want it to end. We got a glimpse into Leontine's mind in the end but I want to know more her end was rather vague. The ending just felt abrupt but other than that fantastic debut!

Not as dark as I expected, but yet still shockingly honest and amazing. The entire story (besides the epilogue) is in Aerons POV and I personally think not getting anything from Leontines perspective is what makes the story so intriguing. Everytime time you think you got it all figured out, it comes out that you're wrong again, and there was no way that I was going to put it down.

"She had the gun.
She had the secret.
But who's leaving with all the power? Me.
I place the gun on the beech table beside her two phones and her keys, and let myself out to the strange music of her sobs.
Leontine Reeves didn't hunt me down to punish me.
Dirty little bitch wants me to punish her."

I love me some dark reads. It's like I crave it. I crave fucked up hero's.
And this book was just that. I enjoyed it but I didn't love it. I kinda wish it was in Dual POV. I would have loved went on in Leo's mind.
I found that there was some a lot of detail in some areas others and not in others. Longer review to come.

5 Mindfucking stars

Holy hell.

Trust(noun): the warm, fuzzy realization that you have way too much dirt on someone for them to fuck you over.

Now this book was something else. I can't even describe it. It was just mindfuckingly awesome. I started this book with high hopes, and I am very pleased to say that I am so not disappointed. Miss Craven did not make it all about romance. She stayed to the heart of the issue, and she totally nailed it.

We have Aeron, a media mogul, and a self proclaimed sociopath, who blends in well with the crowd. But that is not to say that he doesn't have um.. unusual desires. He has this air of superiority about him, and if anyone spoke the way he did, I would have probably called them a self entitled diva, and let it be. But not Aeron. Man does that guy carry himself.

Looking at the world from his point of view, his definitions for each feeling, and his genuine manipulative tendency.. was seriously interesting.

I grew up an only child, which means you can look at my toys—I'll show them off, in fact—but god help you if you lay a finger on them.

The thing that I liked the most here was the fact that Leo (short for Leontine) doesn't try and change him, the way almost all heroines do. She just becomes his brand of exception. I loved those two together. There were scenes of dubious consent, but I would be really upset if things were all flowery and shit. And it's not like he suddenly becomes Mr. Goody-two-pants after he realizes that he was in love with her. So it was perfect, it a very very twisted way..

"He told me once that it was a special kind of love—a mongrel of a thing born from desire and obsession, sealed shut like the tightest scar."

WOW!! I'm not even sure how begin to tell you how much I loved this book!!

There were a bunch of things I loved about it, first of all I loved the way it was written. I read a statement where Ms. Craven said it is written in a 'stream of consciousness' style. It's meant to read as though Aeron is talking directly to you. This is brilliant, because let me tell you, being inside Aeron's mind is one hell of a fucked up crazy fun ride. He is amazingly intelligent, with no conscience whatsoever and that makes him a fascinating creature.

Truth is, you're surrounded by sociopaths, but you think most of them are just fucktards.

I guess I should clarify, this is a dark 'sort of' romance - so it may not be everyone's cup of tea. But if you're anything like me and you immensely enjoy dark romance with a side of fucked up you will LOVE this one, I promise!

Aeron is an interesting man to say the least, and I loved my time spent inside his head. He has distinct kinkery that he likes with his sex that has gotten him into sticky situations (pun intended) in the past, and it looks like that past may have come back to haunt him. This is where Leontine Reeves comes in. Aeron wants her, of course, but in the beginning we aren't exactly sure how much. But OMG, could it be the invincible Aeron Lore is about to fall in love....??

I'm self-serving. Impulsive. I like to please myself, and my desires quiver like dominoes all set up and waiting for the right stroke to make them fall.

I will say again I LOVE AERON LORE!! But I have also fallen hard for Lime Craven who has made my auto buy list! Her writing is intelligent and witty and really unlike anything I have read before.

If you can handle a little dark and will allow your mind outside the box for a bit, then I STRONGLY suggest taking this story for a spin! I hope you all enjoy as much as I did.

Sociopath is the debut release for author Lime Craven. It was the title that caught my attention. I'm into books like this where the psychological aspect is as important as everything else. While the book isn't perfect, it doesn't come across as many debut books do -- as obvious first efforts. I enjoyed watching Aeron manipulate people for his own amusement and ends (cause I'm messed up like that). His twisted POV and dark humor appealed to me from start to finish. The author managed to slip in a few surprises and while there's no cliffhanger ending, I sense there's still more to learn about Aeron, Leo, and perhaps one or two other characters, as well. Looking forward to reading the sequel, Legacy.

3.5 at least the end was a surprise stars

Was it dark? Eh. He had a penchant for cutting during sex. Beyond that, he liked to talk (a lot) about his lack of empathy and how this made him a psychopath. While this was entertaining at first, it dragged after a while. Now, if I had to rate just the last third of this book, it would be a solid five stars, provided you could overlook the grammar issues. That being said, the ending was phenomenal and it was worth wading through the somewhat repetitive first half. The pace sped up, gripped the reader, and shocked with unforeseen twists.

Wow. This book is crazy and twisted and all sorts of wrong and right mixed into one. I need to let it sink in before I can really process everything. VERY well written and extremely smart, a bizarre, dark and oddly sweet romance that will leave you feeling things that you can't describe. One of a kind.

I love dark and this sounded great so I gave it a try. The writing was really good, but the story just wasn't for me. I can't explain it. Slow moving maybe? I don't know. I just felt the story kind of dragged on and at times went in circles. That's not to say someone else wouldn't love it… just wasn't for me.
