The Price of Love

Rate this book
Arden Simms—an average twenty-five-year-old med student—is headstrong, independent, and spends most of her time consumed by her studies. The last thing she wants is a romantic relationship that could cause her life to veer off track.

Slayde Price is gorgeous, kind, and well on his way to fame and fortune. But the shallow people he’s surrounded by in Paris have started to bore him, and he’s contemplating a way out of his contract so he can return home.

Their worlds collide when Arden flies to Paris to visit her sister—and finds that her selfish younger sister has struck again, leaving Arden alone in a strange city with no place to stay. When Slayde bumps into Arden, his ex-girlfriend’s sister, on a crowded street, he decides he may just want to stay in Paris a little longer.

Before long, Arden realizes that ignoring her feelings for Slayde isn’t as easy as she’d thought it would be.

Craft's first in the Price of love series hooks readers with its smoldering intensity and page-turning dramatic twists.

This was not a bad read, but there were a few things that I struggled with in this story.

Arden always felt Slayde was the hottest guy in high school. She felt that someone like Slayde would never be interested in a girl like Arden. Slayde never spoke or looked at her in high school even though he dated her younger sister and she dated his brother. Fast forward eight years and Arden is in Paris visiting her sister and runs into Slayde. Slayde is now living in Paris modeling. Slayde and Arden start to develop a friendship. The whole time Arden is with Slayde, she knows he would never want anything more than a friendship, but actually the opposite is true.

I loved the way the two main characters Slayde and Arden reconnected. I loved how Arden had those insecurities about Slayde since she always felt he was out of her league. Arden is a “runner”. The minute she felt that Slyde would hurt her feelings, she would “run” from the relationship. I love runners in these types of stories, but after a while I was yelling at Arden to just give Slayde a break. Slayde is wonderful in every way. I understood Arden insecurities, but they frustrated me when they were completed unwarranted. For someone so smart, she did the dumbest things. There were times when I questioned why Slayde was trying so hard to keep her.

I did not mind the insecurities in the beginning, but after a while I became annoyed with Arden’s behavior. Some of her stabs killed me. She had these misconceptions about Slayde. The first half of the book I was going to give a solid 4 stars. However with the second half I think some parts of the book could have been edited out. It felt wordy. For example, I really did not care about half of these secondary characters’ backgrounds or an explanation about a movie they were watching. Additionally, some of the inner dialogue I could not understand coming from a 26 year old med student.

Saying all this though, I loved the concept. As I mentioned Slayde was wonderful and some of Arden’s behavior was understood. I am not sure if there will be a sequel to continue these characters’ journey.

Arden travels to Paris for a much needed break from college. Conveniently when she arrives her sister, who she is suppose to stay with, is out of town. Slayde finds her and offers her a place to stay. She know Slayde from high school and takes him up on his offer. Little does she know that this will take her on a wild ride of reconnecting with Slayde and starts a great friendship that develops into so much more.

The characters in this book were everywhere from loving to shallow. Slayde was a model but such a down to earth guy that was sick of the fakeness of the other models. He wanted a real relationship that was not based on looks, money, and popularity. Arden doesn't think she has time for a relationship with college, finals and a residency in medicine. Throughout the book Arden struggles with her self confidence. She constantly thinks Slayde is to good for her or he deserves better. Sometimes you just wanted to shake her. You could actually call her the run away girlfriend. Slayde does everything in her power to convince her of his love. It was refreshing to see the flaws in the relationship and how two people had to work at the relationship. It was not easy for them. The secondary characters in this book are an important part to the story and Ms. Craft did a great job of developing them. They added so much to the story, love, friendship, jealousy, and trouble.

"I don't think it's that complicated, Arden. I like you, and you like me. Whether you want to admit it or not. And we're always together, so really we're already dating. I think admitting that makes it all pretty simple" Love this quote from Slayde.

Hilights:
- The character development of Arden and Slayde and all of the secondary characters
- The troubles of making a successful relationship and showing how is take work to make it successful
- The story was realistic from studying for exams to out running the paparazzi
- The trials and tribulations of family. This included jealousy, support, and family fights.
- Arden really made you want to scream sometimes. She constantly was scared of her relationship with Slayde and sometimes went overboard with her insecurities. However this did add to the story.

1.5 stars and only one positive thing to say about this one. Since I started law school i have far less time for pleasure reading. If you go through my reviews you'll find that this has resulted in an extremely high rate of DNF's because i decided i don't have enough time to waste on bad books. The last 2 books i've read i made myself finish because my batting avg has been so poor I felt like i never finish books anymore. I regret pushing through on this one. Basically everything about it was bad. The heroine is the whiniest fucking most insecure POS heroine i think i've ever read. Every time she even has the slightest inkling things maybe might be slightly less than ideal she just runs away without any word to him. She treats the hero like shit (which i guess is at least a twist on the norm) the entire book but he's so weak and simpering he takes her back EVERY SINGLE TIME! Don't get me wrong I like sensitive men as much as the next girl but he cried all the time..over the heroine who didn't deserve him in the first place. This couple made no sense to me. I thought they were really poorly matched and as such the romance was really awkward, when they got to the i love you stage all i could think was "why?" There were no sex scenes all the author does is insinuate. The plot wasn't all that interesting and the awful writing made it even worse. Errors, continuity issues, and just things that didn't make sense all over the place. And the ending! I slug through all that mess and still don't get any idea of what happens to them?! Ugh. Literally the only thing nice i have to say about this book is that some of the side characters were actually really likable people that genuinely made sense...on to the next.

I fell in love with Slayde almost from the get go. I found the book to be interesting and it kept my attention. I read it withing four days. I would recommend it to others.

The summary hooked me. Starting the book, I was waiting for a twist in the backstory of the main characters- why he likes her so much, when he fell for her, something more than what I got. I adore strong characters. This book had maybe one, Milly. Arden ran over and over. Slayde has the sensitive side I love from the male characters, but was way too sensitive to the point that he exists in my mind as a fragile, almost always on the edge of crying wimp. And that is the last image of the leading man that I want in my mind.

I appreciated how medical school did seem hard and tiring and not just something she got through on the side. But I was hoping for more of a backbone from Arden. It seemed to have no real plot other than can they decide to be with each other. There was many little conflicts with characters that I feel could have been better developed had the author focused on maybe one or two. I kept reading in hopes it would get better, but I am sorely disappointed with this book.

*This book was given to me by the author in exchange for an honest review*

Arden Simms has never had a normal childhood growing up. Her mother is a lawyer and a workaholic who hardly ever sees or spends time with Arden or any of her sisters. Her father, or any of her sister’s fathers, isn’t around either so Arden has to fend for herself. She’s in med school and takes a semester off before her internship starts and goes to Paris, France. She is supposed to meet her model sister Kenedy there but Kenedy is off at a job. She runs into a former schoolmate and also model Slayde Price and he offers her a place to stay until Kenedy gets home. Arden and Slayde start to hang out and get to know each other again and are really starting to hit it off. Arden starts to like Slayde but doesn’t want to get too close because Slayde and Kenedy used to date in high school and Arden used to date Slayde’s brother Brady and she doesn’t want any problems between their families. The more Arden and Slayde spend together the more their attraction grows. Kenedy comes home and finds out and is furious (but she did something horrible with Brady while he was with Arden so Slayde tells Arden not to care what she thinks.) Once Arden’s new semester starts she goes back home to L.A. and Slayde goes with her. They resume their relationship and are so happy together but after some time, things start to get a little rocky. From long distances between them, to school, to Slayde’s modeling career, jealousy and the paparazzi make Arden wonder if it’s worth it.
This story was so good and I had a real hard time putting it down. The characters are all so real and everyone has their own distinct personality. You really want Arden and Slayde’s relationship to work out. Even though there are a lot of obstacles in there way you hope they get past them together.

As you can tell by the rating, this book was not my cup of tea. I had a really hard time getting through it and it almost went into the do not finish pile. I did finish it, and though there is a teaser (sorta cliffhanger?) at the end, I won't be reading the sequel.

Arden was an impossible character: her insecurities and inability to deal with life really frustrated me. I understand that everyone has insecurities and things to learn and grow from, but Arden never did. She runs from her problems and constantly second guesses her relationship. Right up to the last page she was second guessing every decision and that did not sit well with me, especially for a character who was in medical school for 8 years. Diligence, hard work and decision making are required to be a good doctor, and Arden's personality in her relationship contradicted all of those things.

Slayde was an okay character, there wasn't a lot of exciting moments for him. Aside from his love of Arden he seemed like a typical guy. Sweet, attentive and down to earth. I guess I didn't understand why he kept pursuing Arden after her repeated terrible behavior. I understand that he loved her, but being a punching bag for someone's tantrums and misunderstandings would be grating and it seemed like he was the only one invested in the relationship for most of the book.

All in all, this book wasn't for me. I couldn't connect with the characters and the constant drama (break up, make up, break up, make up- ugh) just frustrated me instead of building that lovers tension that the author was going for. If you enjoy a lot of drama, then this book is for you.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. I was not monetarily compensated for my opinion.

What an amazing story!! I loved the characters, the writing style and the way that the author made the reader feel as if they were a part of the story! The characters are fun to read about, down to earth and relatable and the family situations that she writes about must be true because I know a ton of people that can relate to them on an everyday basis! This was a fast paced read for me, mostly because I had to see what happened at the end....and from there I only asked myself one question...did she or didn't she?!?!?!? Where is the next book? I need to catch up with my friends Arden, Milly, Slayde and Eddie....I feel like I am missing a part of my everyday life without knowing where they are next and what they are doing. This book must be added to your TBR list and make sure you do it soon, because I know that you will love it as much as I do!! Grab a chair, a drink and a sunny spot so that you can devour this book like I did!!

A very quick read. Finished it one sitting. It could be because the events in the book move fast and feel a bit rushed. I started out loving the 2 main characters and their love story but soon found myself annoyed with both of their behaviors towards each other and the way their relationship was developing. He is desperate, she is a runner, and both are insecure to a fault. But despite their flaws it is worth a read. For me it is the ending that now has me hooked because I gotta find out what happens in book 2. Talk about a cliffhanger.

I can sum up the whole thing with one word: insecurity. Every single conflict is because the girl is insecure. 254 pages of angst ridden insecurity all made up in the girl's head. She is going to be a doctor doing a residency in a hospital- I can only hope that she will meet a psychologist there that can diagnose her and start her on a corrective medication.
Apparently there is a sequel to this book. I can't think of many things more painful than reading another 274 pages of this twit- and that includes my 27 hour labor, and subsequent c-section. Please. Save yourself.

This book grated on me. The lead character, Arden, is an insecure, whinging, pathetic sap. She is an idiot that needs a good talking to. She jumps to conclusions about everything, she is always crying, about everything. She won't admit she was wrong unless forced to. I have no idea why tge idiot male lead (Slayde) kept on hankering after her. The whole thing is ridiculous and unbelievable. I don't usually mind a love story but this was just silly from start to finish.

I loved this book! It was a refreshing escape for an overworked mother of two! I quickly fell in love with both characters and finished the book in one sitting. I got a bit aggravated at the way their relationship developed but that is part of what I loved about the book. If the book was boring, predictable or uneventful I never would have finished it. I love the way the author allowed the characters to develop in such a raw and real way. I can't wait to read the next one! Great job!

This is an entertaining book. I loved Slayde Price but found Arden frustrating! I didn't expect the story to go in the direction that it did. I wish there had been more description of their intimate moments. They seemed barely mentioned however I did still enjoy the book and all the twists and turns.

I enjoyed reading this book! Had slight problems with Arden but only because I'm a strong type of personality so it took a while to connect with her. I'm patiently waiting for the sequel!! All in all I think Maggi did an excellent job with the writing, the set up of the characters and the scenes.

The heroine was stupid the book ended because the author couldn't find anything else stupid for her to do. I was so disappointed in this book it was a major waste of time.
