Layover in Love

Rate this book
One hot stranger.
One broken flight plan.
One unforgettable road trip.

When April finds herself stranded in Houston with no flight, no backup, and no time to spare, the last thing she expects is a ride offer from a mysterious (and ridiculously attractive) stranger.

Max is charming, annoyingly calm, and headed to LA—perfect, right? Maybe. Because what starts as a simple lift quickly turns into unexpected detours, flirty banter, late-night confessions, and close quarters that spark a little too much tension.

There’s chemistry. There’s chaos, and there might even be feelings.

But April has a plan, and falling for Max was never part of it.

Layover in Love is a sun-drenched romantic comedy about timing, second chances, and the magic of letting go.

This was a relatively short romance that was incredibly cheesy and too surface-level to have me swooning. April (who has sisters named May and June because of course) can’t get on a flight to LA for a job interview, so she starts a road trip with Max, a stranger also heading to LA. Somehow, in the entire 4 days they’re driving across half the country and falling in love, neither of them talks about their jobs, which is pretty strange because that’s an important part of adult life.

April was an eternal optimist and ray of sunshine, while Max was a not-quite-grumpy, reluctantly rich guy, and I can see why they worked. But mostly, I was just wondering how they managed to fall in love when more than half their car ride was them listening to music and staring out the window in silence. Their nightly stops in cute little towns with quirky people were fun, and I was glad they did actually spend time together outside the car and go on sort-of-dates. Overall though, I felt like I knew almost nothing about them and their attraction to each other was based on very little.

Nico was weirdly invested in Max’s love life. May and June were chaotic. The text threads between the guys and girls were a bit much for me; they read like a bunch of 13 year olds talking about their first crushes rather than 30 year olds who have ever met another person who they were attracted to.

The writing was okay. There was a dramatic overuse of ellipses and describing things with three words written like this: “just…perfect. Soft. Quiet” and it drove me a little crazy. Also, the word ‘soft’ was used 100 times in 250 pages, which is way too many times. Everything was soft, from the lighting to the smiles to the bedding to the way their voices sounded. I needed something to be described in a different way, but it wasn’t.

I really wanted to love this one because the cover is adorable, and I think if I was a young teenager I would have. But as an adult, it just felt too juvenile for me. Not like it was an intentionally YA book (of which I love many), but the writing and characters felt childish throughout.

Thanks to the author, RG Prince, for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review!

No major plot spoilers but I do refer to scenes in the book.

I came across R.G. Prince on TikTok one day, and saw that she was accepting applications for ARC readers. I applied and was so happy to be chosen!

Romance that begins with 2 strangers in an airport? Sign me up! From chapter 1, I was hooked. I binge read because I couldn’t put the book down and wanted more and more of the cozy romantic vibes!!

I love the dynamic between April and Max. I was rooting for them right from the start.

One of the things I adored most, was all of the little moments between them. Their visit to a small town? *Chefs kiss*! And who knew my favorite from those chapters would be a pet chicken!

I’ve read books before where the slow burn was a little tooo slow, and this was not one of those times! R.G. is a phenomenal writer who knows exactly how to pace a story. This is the perfect book for some easy, relaxed reading.

The little touches, like April’s relationships with her sisters and Max’s relationship with his best friend, were also some of my favorite parts of the book.

If you want a book with the slow burn, strangers to friends to lovers, cozy road trip vibes, this is for you!

I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC for Layover in Love. This book had everything that I love. Strangers to lovers. Close proximity. Small town antics. Max and April were so cute and I was obsessed with every stop they made on their roadtrip. If you want a quick, easy read with lovable characters and a happy ending, this is the book for you!

Thank you RG Prince and team for sending me my very first ARC. I wish you all the best!

The book is releasing in a few hours but just so you know I'm smitten by this book. My new favourite💖

I finished the ARC in 2 days!! In 2 freaking days!!!

This story starts when April, on her third breakdown of the day between terminals of the Houston airport, is told that her flight to LA is cancelled. The reason for the breakdown you may ask, she has an interview the next day for her dream job. Between frustration & finding rental cars, Max, a stranger offers her a ride to LA, with him.

Between guessing if he is a kidnapper, a serial killer, both or just a kind stranger, she comes to the conclusion that it's better to share your location every hour with your sisters because this interview, this chance, has come back again to her after 2 yrs & she'll not miss it this time. What follows next is the most beautiful & wholesome road trip between two strangers💕

This book, this story😭 I'm so happy I got to read it. The cover, stunning!! The art, stunning!! And OMG the sistersss!!! I freaking love them!! The chaos in matching cardigans😂 Makes me remember my sisters & me being the oldest, it just does something to my heart!!! & Nico, my guy, I love you!!!

And romance girlies, I get you now, I get what y'all are on and talk about🤭 I was crying at the end, not because it was sad, but because it was so beautiful & I wanted this story to never end🥺 It made me giggle & kick my feet in the air🤭 Max is my book boyfriend. Somebody round up the edits!

The banter, the tension, the moments, I love everything about it. The dual povs, OMG I was melting the whole time🫠 Somebody come forward right now & make this into a movie. We are in desperate need of rom-coms!!

A very sweet and charming book that easily draws in the reader written by a wonderfully talented author! Max is a dreamy and thoughtful boyfriend, and with the help of a very close friend, is kept on the right page. April is a very nicely developed and charismatic FMC. Her relationship with her sisters, May and June, is touching and realistic. R.G.’s second book is a humorous and easy read at the end of a long day. Max and April’s slow burn relationship develops with fun, flirty banter and sincerity. A surprise ending closes this book 1 of the 3-book series in a captivating way! I only regret there weren’t more chapters to read in this romantic story!

I was honored to have been selected as an ARC reader for this beautiful story. I can’t wait for the next book by this phenomenal author! Congrats R.G.!!

Layover in Love was a heartwarming strangers-to-lovers story that left me wanting more!

Both of the main characters were so kind and caring in a way that captivated the hearts of everyone in the story including the reader. This is the kind of slow burn that doesn’t have you screaming at the book but anticipating the next move right there with the characters and giddy when something more happens!

Supporting characters in this book were amazing! From the people they meet along the way, to the people they have always had in their corners, you know both of these characters know what it is like to be loved. I love the relationship April had with her sisters and I can’t wait to get to dive into their stories as well later in the series.

I can’t wait to see what other amazing work RG Prince comes out with!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ (4.5 stars)

I had the pleasure of receiving an ARC of Layover in Love. My first read from R.G. Prince, and I was absolutely charmed by it. This story is heartfelt, fun, and beautifully romantic, with characters who immediately drew me in.

What really stood out to me was how much life the side characters brought to the story. The text message banter between friends and siblings had me grinning every time. It added so much humor. April and Max both had backstories that gave their characters depth, with April’s being especially moving, while Max’s added an important layer to who he was. Together, their dynamic was sweet, genuine, and magnetic.

The writing had such an effortless flow, making the story feel like a true journey, both in the literal sense and in how these two slowly opened up to each other. There’s something special about the way music, laughter, and small shared moments can pull two people closer, and this book captured that magic perfectly.

If I had one wish, it’s simply that there were more chapters…I wasn’t ready for April and Max’s story to end. Their relationship was so captivating that I could’ve happily kept reading about them for much longer.

Layover in Love was romantic, fun, and heartfelt in all the right ways, and it left me already eager for the next book in the series. R.G. Prince has definitely gained a new fan in me!

This is my first ARC and first read by RG Prince and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The way this story gave me butterflies, that nervous pound in my chest and those giddy feelings of the unknown, new and exciting romance. I truly missed that feeling and was so happy to have found it in this read. I’m gushing over these characters and now I want my own “Layover In Love” experience 🤭 If you want a fluffy, warm hug of a read, this one’s for you.

I look forward to reading more of her books.

I had the absolute pleasure of being an ARC reader for Layover in Love. This is the easiest 5 star rating I've given. Strangers to lovers.Slow burn.Road trip.💜 Such a cute and funny book, but also has such depth. It took me through every emotion and I'm so grateful for it!
Both main characters were so easy to love. The supporting characters had me grinning the whole way through. The way each stop along the way was described made you feel like you were right there. Everything just flowed so efforlessly I couldn't put it down. Their story just shows you how taking a chance could turn out to be a good thing.

R.G. Prince has easily become my favorite author, and I cannot wait to see what is to come after this.

Layover in Love by R.G. Prince is a delightful, feel-good romance that completely swept me away. From the very first page, I was hooked by the unique premise and the vibrant way the story was told. What starts out as a chance encounter during a layover turns into so much more, and I loved watching the relationship develop between the main characters. It’s the kind of book that makes you believe in fate and the magic of unexpected connections.

The characters felt so real, and their chemistry was literally jumping off the page! I especially appreciated the banter and the playful moments balanced with the deeper, more emotional ones. RG Prince does a wonderful job of weaving in humor and heart, making it impossible not to root for the couple as they navigate both the spark of attraction and the vulnerability of letting someone in.

The pacing was perfect: fast enough to keep me engaged, but also allowing space for the characters’ emotions to grow naturally. The writing itself is smooth and easy to read, yet still packed with charm. By the time I finished, I didn’t just feel like I had read a romance, I felt like I had experienced it right alongside the characters!

This book is exactly what I want in a contemporary romance: fun, heartfelt, and swoon-worthy with just the right touch of depth. If you’re looking for a romance that will make you smile, laugh, and leave you with a full heart, Layover in Love is the perfect pick. Highly recommend to anyone who loves meet-cute stories, serendipity, and characters who feel like friends.

This was a sweet interlude, two strangers taking a chance on each other when their flights were grounded. A pushed back interview turns into a once in a lifetime road trip, with budding feelings and interfering friends and family sharing their thoughts via text.

Funny and not too serious, this is a light read that brings the feels. Light on angst, it gives our characters time to talk and get to know one another, a chance to open up and fall in love.

If a fairly easy road to love isn't your thing, our glimpse at the next book promises to be a much bumpier ride, and while I enjoyed every minute of this, I cannot wait for the switch the next book promises!

Thank you so much to RG for the ARC, sorry for the late review. Book is out now, and available on Kindle Unlimited!

I was so excited to be chosen to be one of R.G. Prince's ARC readers!
The second I downloaded my copy, I was hooked from page one! The way R.G. Prince writes is fluid and captivating and reminds me a lot like Abby Jimenez' writing style which is beautiful! I loved the dual-perspective of the FMC and MMC and I LOVE the side character Nico!!! Omg, he and the sisters had me laughing out loud. This strangers to lovers story had me smiling through the entire book and gave me butterflies for them. It is a slow burn done right! It felt like I was watching a movie and couldn't walk away for anything! This is a beautiful story with great banter and a well done storyline. Sweet, real, and relatable.🫑 I can't wait to read R.G.'s next book!!! Congratulations girly!!!

What a beautiful well written book! This book was so cute, not only did it start off in my hometown but it really did captivate the smallest and cutest detail making you feel like you were in the book, from the small details like the characters perspective to the text bubble book banters, everything was well written and easy to keep up with. The main characters April and Max had an amazing dynamic that you can’t help but fall in love with both characters. I honestly want more, I never wanted their story to end. Layover in Love really shows you that there are amazing people out there in this world, you just have to take the risk!

An unexpected road trip turns life changing

April Moreira needs to get to Los Angeles. The dream job that she had to turn down years prior for personal reasons has come available and she has an interview in the morning. The only problem is, she is stranded in Houston thanks to an outage that has grounded all air traffic. Desperate to not blow her dream a second time she accepts a ride from a handsome stranger who just happens to also be going to Los Angeles. As she and Max set out the air is politely tense but as they get to know each other they feel an attraction. And when her interview is delayed, the pair really have time to get to know each other better. What starts out as an arrangement of convenience begins to blossom into a magical journey across the country and into each other’s hearts.

Layover in Love is the newest title by author R.G. Prince and the first in her Spring Fling Sisters series. The story follows female main character April as she attempts to get to Los Angeles to chase her dream job. But it seems as if the world is against her as she finds herself stranded in the airport due to an outage. Max comes to her rescue, and the pair begin the road trip to end all road trips. Told from the alternating viewpoints of both April and Max, Prince does a great job of getting the reader inside both characters’ heads as both struggle with their growing attraction to each other. The added text message exchanges between Max and his best friend Nico as well as April and her sisters May and June were hilarious, sometimes completely unhinged, and always relatable. Add in a quaint, and slightly eccentric small-town celebration along the way and Prince has checked off all the boxes for a sweet rom com that any casual reader or K drama fan would enjoy.

Is this tropey? Sure. Predictable? Maybe, but what book isn’t? April and Max’s story had me smiling, laughing, and looking forward to seeing if my predictions were correct. I am not typically a romance girly, but when I am I usually gravitate to cozy, quirky low to no spice reads that rely more on heart and storytelling than explicit scenes. With Layover in Love, Prince has achieved this goal and has delivered a fun, easy read that will delight and reignite the dream of “love at first sight”.

After reading April and Max’s story I am looking forward to the other books in this series as they are released. If Layover in Love is any indication, May and June’s stories are sure to be just as quirky, fun and enjoyable. If you are a cozy, sweet romance fan. Layover in Love will take you on the trip of a lifetime.

Full disclosure: I was provided a copy of this title by the author or their authorized agent, however, have voluntarily provided a review. All opinions are my own. Layover in Love is scheduled for a September 16, 2025 release.

𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁:

What a fun adventure! I like the premise of strangers sharing a car and falling in love along the journey. So I knew this would be an instant yes for me, but I got so much more than I expected . The text chats throughout were next level LOL. I loved Peaches the chicken and the OMG the sunset moment was perfection. All the slow burn energy yet forced proximity vibes had my little romance heart fluttering, such a cute read! Can’t wait for the next sister’s book and it’s based in OR (Yay PNW!)

𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬:

April needs to get to LA for her second chance interview for her dream job, but all the flights were just grounded. That means she’s out of luck unless she can find a way to magically get from TX to Los Angeles in the next 24hrs.

Max can’t help starting at the beautiful girl at the ticket counter, he’s drawn to her and when he hears she needs to get to LA he wants to help. So he offers to give her a ride, the question is will she say yes. He sure hopes so! Spoiler she does.

Join these two strangers and they embark on an impromptu road trip full of adventure, snacks, music, laughter, memories and an undeniable connection.

Check out this book when it launches on Sept 16th, but for now add to your TBR!

It's been a long while since I read a cutesy cheesy romance which gave me all the feels, made me blush, giggle, squirm and kick my feet in the air. Honestly, I may be biased here for giving 5-stars but I'll let myself indulge this once, because this book was the perfect palette cleanser and a reminder I needed for why I love the romance genre so much.💕✨

Now coming to the story,it starts off with April who is having one of those days that feel cursed by Mercury itself: her flight to L.A. is cancelled, her dream job interview is slipping away, and all her plans crumble in an airport terminal. Enter Max - confident, infuriating, funny, who offers her a ride across states to make it in time. What begins as a desperate deal turns into a road trip filled with banter, messy detours, roadside diners, and that magnetic tension that only happens when two people try "not" to fall for each other (and failing miserably 🤭).

This book is pure rom-com sunshine vibes. The author balances humor with heart, giving us a heroine who’s relatable in her chaos and a hero who surprises you with how quietly soft he can be. I also loved April's sisters - May and June literally 😂❤️ (I'm so excited for their books too),and Max's best friend,Nico. The text conversations they had are cute and hilarious at the same time. 😚💗

It’s the kind of story that reminds you that sometimes the best destinations are the unexpected ones and that maybe, love really does happen when your flight gets cancelled. So,if you’re looking for a light, travel-filled escape between heavier reads, this is the perfect choice. It’s breezy, heartfelt, and feels like driving with the windows down, music loud, and the future wide open. I hope you'll love it as much as I did. 💌

I honestly cannot remember the last time I was so excited to read a book. And let me tell you, R.G. Prince did not disappoint with this one.

If you love - roadtrips, only one bedroom, slow burn, strangers to lovers - then this book is definitely for you. The relationships, the banter, the side characters (some not human) and the fast paced laugh-out-loud ease in which this story is told will draw you in from the very beginning. And you will not want it to end.

Two strangers - one stranded and looking for a way out and the other - daring to make a move that could change their lives completely. One decision changes what would have been a quick flight, into a crazy, once in a lifetime roadtrip you’ll never want to forget. R.G. Prince makes you feel like you’re right there with our two main characters the whole way, seeing everything they’re seeing. Experiencing it all right along with them.

I don’t know if R.G. Prince intended to hit you right in the feels with the backstories, the loss, the love between siblings holding their entire world together through it all. But she definitely did just that. For this reader anyway. April, May and June remind me of my sisters and our close relationship. The texting, the teasing, the advice, the being there for each other. I can’t remember the last time a story drew me in and made me want more. Thank goodness this isn’t a stand alone. I very much look forward to reading more in this world and especially with these sisters. I definitely recommend!

This book is perfect if you love to just be pulled into a story. I would have read this story in one sitting if I didn't have work to get to. It was easy to follow along and to fall in love with the characters.

I personally loved the slow burn between Max and April, but it was made even better to have those sparks from the beginning. The "love at first sight" and the enjoyable plot line made their slow burn seem to go by like a constant wave that never stopped. I was gushing and felt like the pace was perfect for who the characters were. They're wholesome, nervous, and so real. The strangers to lovers was perfect for this story and I loved getting to know April and Max just as each of them were learning about each other. The atmosphere built along the road trip was believable and sucked me in entirely. I've never been to New Mexico, but somehow I feel like I was right there in the passenger seat. Both characters felt like real people with real baggage who were growing, changing, and finding themselves with each other.

I really wish I could have seen more of April and Max after they got together, but the amount of romance that existed throughout the book is still great.

This is my first time ARC reading and it was very enjoyable! I can't wait to see more from R.G. Prince!

Layover in Love delivers a delightful mix of travel mishaps, sizzling chemistry, and the kind of serendipitous connection that romance readers crave. The premise is immediately engaging: April, stranded in Houston with a broken flight plan and no way forward, is forced to accept help from Max-a stranger who is equal parts infuriatingly calm and dangerously charming. What begins as a desperate ride to LA soon unravels into an unforgettable rode trip filled with detours late-night conversations, and undeniable tension.

What stands out most is the banter. The dialogue is witty and playful, often leading to moments that blur the line between irritation and attraction. At the same time, the story weaves in deeper layers, with confessions and shared vulnerabilities that keep the romance from feeling surface-level.

If you enjoy road trip romances, strangers-to-lovers tension and the thrill of watching two people go from wary allies to something much more, Layover in Love is a heartfelt read. This book is perfect for someone with the idea that sometimes the wrong turn can lead you exactly where you're meant to be.

I really enjoyed Layover in Love, this was my first book by R.G. Prince, and it definitely won’t be my last!
April and Max’s chemistry was amazing, and I loved watching their connection grow throughout the story. It’s a slow burn romance that kept me hooked, with just the right amount of tension. I appreciated how the book took its time, letting their relationship develop naturally. It was sweet, authentic, and so easy to connect with.
The side characters were a highlight too. April’s relationship with her sisters added so much depth to the story.
The author did a great job weaving in themes of family and personal growth alongside the romance, which gave the story a grounded and relatable feel.
I also loved how easy the writing was to get into. The road trip setting was the perfect backdrop to bring April and Max closer together, and their banter, along with plenty of funny moments, made it such a fun read.
All in all, if you’re looking for a romantic, funny, and heartfelt story, I definitely recommend Layover in Love. It’s the perfect mix of humor, romance, and real emotion, everything I love in a good romance!

I didn’t expect to enjoy this book as much as I did, but it completely pulled me in. I was chosen as an ARC reader without having read anything by R.G. Prince before—and now I’m officially a fan.

From the first chapter, I was hooked. The writing is emotional and engaging, but what really stood out was how funny it was. The road trip scenes had me laughing out loud, especially the banter between the sisters. Their dynamic felt so real—equal parts heartfelt and hilarious—and the people they meet along the way added even more charm and personality to the story.

If I had one small critique, it’s that the ending felt a bit rushed. I would’ve loved a little more time with these characters before it wrapped up. But honestly, that didn’t take away from how much I enjoyed the ride.

I’m already looking forward to the next book.

This story is not only beautiful and endearing, it is what could happen if we take a chance. If we just live for the moment. I was invested from the beginning eyes meeting in a crowded and busy airport. The characters that the MMC and FMC meet while on their little adventure. To the description of the places they had a chance to visit.

A love story
A chance to experience another person without the noise of the outside world.
A view into how beautiful our surroundings are when we share it with someone special.

R.G. Prince definitely has a pure talent of bringing you into her characters world. You experience each moment with a smile and you can't help but envision each interaction with her characters. I am a fan!!! I can't wait for the next book in this series!!!

Layover In Love was such a good strangers-to-lovers book! It was romantic and fun, and it had me laughing and kicking my feet giddy the whole time!

The banter between the characters was absolutely perfect from April and Max to April and her sisters! The text chains were one of my favorite parts!

It was so fun and written so well that I felt like I was on the trip with them and loved every minute of it! I absolutely loved the dynamic between April and Max. I was so sad that the story had to end. I wanted to keep reading more!

I love the relationship between April and her sisters, and I'm so excited to read their stories!

I can't wait to see what other stories Author R.G. Prince has in store for us!

RomCom of the year

Overall 5/5
Spice 3/5

This book was phenomenal. It is very much a romcom. It just took top spot for romcom of the year for me.

Max and April having their mutual attraction but acting like middle schoolers afraid to act on said attraction. Then you have April’s sisters (May and June) and a max’s BFF (Nico) all tell them they are living a romcom and what book tropes they are at.

Nico I was sitting here thinking how does he know all these tropes “forced proximity, one bed…..” but it because he reads his wife’s books.

Chapter 29 had me screaming omg omg omg at the end of it.

The things Max is in planning in the epilogue. I’m so excited for. I hope we get bonus content and can see it play it and even see when May, June and Nico meet April and Max.

I had the privilege of reading an early copy of Layover in Love for the author as a beta reader and I was obsessed!

The plot line of them meeting at the airport and going on this road trip together was so cute. I didn’t feel like their story was rushed at all, it was a good slow burn.

The way the author describes things is so cool and unique! It made things very relatable to a reader.

This is SPOILER FREE but I truly didn’t see the end coming. It was so poetic in a way.

The side characters were incredible and I CANNOT WAIT for one of the sister’s books. That’s gonna be so good 🤭

Great job on the author and I’m excited to see the finished product after any edits!!
