Forever didn’t exist, and Brielle accepted long ago that she was destined to spend this life alone. Forgotten in a place where she was unwanted and underappreciated.
The only thing she was certain of was that her one chance at happiness now only existed in her dreams. When the visions of a blonde Dane she saw years ago came to call on her. Visions of a forbidden foreigner beckoning her to join him.
After collapsing in the woods, he visited her one final time, ferrying her to Heaven, Hell, or Valhalla.
It didn’t matter which.
At least she wouldn’t have to be alone anymore.
Heart of the Wolf is a standalone Viking romance with a happily ever after.
This was a huge success! - exactly what I wanted :) Leif is the ultimate protective, competent, ridiculously devoted MMC - you can't help but think, "ugh fine, take my heart." Brielle, the FMC, matches him perfectly: strong, gentle, kind, and quietly badass. I loved them together 🥹
The tropes here? Chef's kiss. Fated mates, hair braiding, found family (my weakness), "touch her and die" (Leif delivered), AND he gets her a kitten!! 😭🫶 I was a goner.
It's not a high-stakes story, which works perfectly. It's binge-worthy, cozy, and heartwarming, the kind of read that makes you wish you were tucked away in a snowy cabin.
Would I rec? Absolutely!! If you like warrior heroes who fall hard and stay soft for their girl, this is the book.

My first ever ARC!! I'm honestly so excited and so grateful to Michelle Love for the chance to read Heart of the Wolf early. Can't wait to dive in 🤍
This was such an incredible, comfy and cozy read! And exactly what I needed.
The main characters — Brielle (an English healer) and Leif (the konungr, king, of the Norse people) — were loveable, there wasn’t a moment when I felt irritated by them, they easily communicated with each other and cared for each other instantly. This is a fated mates romantasy, and let me tell you how glad I was that they were in love the moment they saw each other. I don’t need characters fighting the bond, what I need is what happened here — love, care and tension. Definitely, this book wasn’t a slow burn in both terms of romance and lust.
Besides the main characters, the secondary ones did a great job either. I adore the found family trope too much, so when they all took care of Brielle, who was unwanted in her village, it made me emotional. Seriously, no trope is better than this one, when the character who never felt love from other people, is being treated with love and care from people they don’t know well!
The world building was simple, but I’m not going to complain about it because I cared about romance the most. To be honest, I’m not a fan of Norse Mythology, so thankfully it didn’t make me overwhelmed.
The author’s writing is amazing. I love how she portrayed all the characters. I never felt lost in the plot.
There was some drama, of course there has to be, but the MCs stayed strong with each other. No miscommunication, all the honesty, and all the love.
Tropes: - Norse Mythology - Fated Mates - Hair Braiding 🔥🔥🔥 - Found Family - Touch Her and Die
“Beautiful women make even the strongest men bend." "Beautiful," she snorted, the word sounding foreign on her tongue. "Yes. Beautiful. I would lay this world at your feet, if you wished it." His hands caressed her curves, settling on her hips. "I would kill anyone who hurt you. I would rip my still-beating heart out of my chest and give it to you if it brought you joy."
Thank you, Michelle Love for sending me the ARC of your book.
ahhh I forgot about safety *spoilers* -safe -virgin FMC, MMC not a virgin but he didn’t seem to be a manwhore, no mentions about his past, I think he was celibate since he first saw the FMC 10 years ago (they were separated since prologue until chapter 1, I think he knew she was his fated mate — but it’s not confirmed or mentioned, those are only my thoughts) - no OW/OM drama, no cheating/sharing/3rd act breakup
4.5⭐️ 3🌶️/5 Standalone Third person/dual POV Format: e-arc
Spoiler free(ish)
What a great debut!
The dedication got me hooked: “To everyone hoping to find that kind of love that makes you want to catch fire. Burn with this one .” How stunning is that? Michelle definitely has a way with prose. It’s very evident in the writing here; lush & immersive & descriptive. Also, for a debut, the editing is top tier & I enjoy that the chapters are on the longer side.
I LOVE that the FMC is the definition of soft! Sometimes, I’m over the tough cookies & Brielle is this bruised & delicate thing that needs tending to & isn’t busy spending the story training! While the MMC is one of those hard with everyone guys but is only ever soft & tender with her.
This is a fated mates trope so the romance is inst-lust but listen… Sometimes you want a slow burn… other times you want to get straight to the point😂 Also, this is spicy; especially considering how short the book is. So please be aware, this is very romance driven with a simple plot.
Idk if this was intentional or not but I love how ambiguous the ages of the MCs are! So in my head, these were some grown ass adults (I’m tired of authors & their 24 year old characters)
& I found my new fav micro trope: hair. He braids her hair uch so cute.
Also, please be aware this does have a pregnancy written towards the latter part of the book (as opposed to the epilogue.)
The one negative that I did encounter is the POV. Sometimes it’s clear whose point of view I’m reading but other times the pov is very murky, I’m not sure if I’m reading from the eyes of the FMC or the MMC.
Overall: if you’re looking for a short, sweet & pleasant romance that’s comforting, low stakes, cozy & gives warm winter vibes with Norse mythology & flowery wording then this is it.
“You are strong, a warrior like Sigrun. You may not wield a blade, but your will is stronger than steel. The mightiest of blades that make mountains bend. We may face trials, but our souls will always find each other. You have nothing to fear. For there is no place you could go that I wouldn’t follow.”
This was a sweet and comfy read about fated mates mixed with Norse and Viking mythology. Throw in the fact that Lief is a wolf shifter with those protective "touch her and die" vibes, and this had me swooning all the way to the end.
Brielle is the perfect strong FMC to temper Lief's wolf while loving him unconditionally. Lief, in turn, is so loving and dedicated to her that you could feel his devotion pouring off the page. He may be the strong warrior king for his people, but for Brielle, he is sweet, tender, and devoted to her every want or need.
This was a perfect palate cleanser read for me and left me with the good feels at the end. If you are looking for an easy, spicy wolf shifter romance book, then you should definitely check this one out.
I appreciate Michelle Love giving me the opportunity to ARC read this book.
I had the immense pleasure and privilege reading Heart of the Wolf by Michelle Love as an ARC reader.
In her debut novel, Michelle crafts an enchanting story about fated mates. It weaves Viking lore and Norse mythology all into one beautifully wrapped romantic package with a spicy bow on top. Heart of the Wolf features a wind swept romance that grabs you from the start and doesn't let go until the happily ever after, end.
I'm normally an audiobook listener, so when I say that this book had me in a chokehold and I just had to finish it in less than five days with a very busy mom life speaks VOLUMES. If Goodreads allowed it, I would give this book a very enthusiastic 4.5 stars, so I'll round up. As a debut indie author, I am thoroughly impressed with Michelle's work on this novel and expect to see amazing things from her in the future.
If you're looking for a story that gives "Outlander" meets "Vikings" with none of the slow burn stuff: only fierce, raging passion—this is the story for you!
I feel rlly bad saying this… but this was fundamentally badly written. It felt like something i would have written aged 13 or 14… extended over 300 pages… there was little to no world-building, and the romance was so rushed it felt like whiplash when all of a sudden (spoiler) FMC is preggo and popping out babies. Like.. ok ??? The reviews of this all described this as a ‘cozy fantasy romance’ but honestly it felt like reading a teens horny vikings fanfic. Anyway yea 1 star SORRY
This book was was way too long, tedious, and boring for the story it was telling. I officially stopped listening to the audio book at 68% and skimmed the rest. An easy 200 pages could have been shaved off this. I also did not enjoy the way it was written. I was very disappointed, and I had been looking forward to this ever since I bought the ebook and audiobook the end of last year.
This was such a good read. The love and devotion between the main characters is like a warm, fuzzy hug.
There is an instant attraction and they both stay true to their characters throughout. The MMC is a stoic warrior and the FMC is more sweet and gentle. They compliment each other in the best way.
Are you coming off a 5 book emotional roller-coaster binge? Is your mind and soul weary from political intrigue, drawn out drama, endless angst, multi-book longing, and the protagonist having to battle for even a sliver of peace or happiness?
Then Heart of the Wolf is probably for you.
It’s low stakes, our problems are quick and easy to solve, insta-love and obsession, who needs plot when you have cute scenes, and 99% PDA. Heart of the Wolf reads a bit more like a cozy biography than a story. The book spans most of Brielle and Leif’s lives together with the majority of the book taking place over the year or so following them “officially” meeting. There wasn’t a traditional plot that I could identify. No inciting incident leads to them working towards a book long goal. The focus is on the growth and stages of their relationship. There is a perpetual warm fuzzy going on here.
This is Michelle Love’s first novel, and it is noticeable sometimes with purple prose, redundant or muddy descriptors, wandering POV, and metaphors/analogies that sound cool but don’t actually make sense. A strong line editor on her next project will really polish up the potential I saw here. Copy editing was impeccable, though. I didn’t notice a single typo or grammar error.
To say I loved this book would be an understatement!
I'm a sucker for viking era historical fiction but this book having a bit of fantasy was the icing on the cake! I loved the characters, the plot, and the lycanthropy aspect of it all.
I do wish the book had been broken up into a duology because it would have allowed for more background on the side characters, more lore, and a more tension filled build up with the villain. I guess I'm a masochist and I need a cliffhanger but overall I enjoyed the book and hope the author explores more stories within the world.
This was a cute read, overall just spice and vibes. Just a cozy viking book without anything else to it. Would definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a low stakes book where you don’t have to think too much or if you are in need of a palate cleanser :)
I’m not sure how I came across this book… but i have an inkling that it was originally a dramione.
It was a very quick read, quick plot, heavy steam, and the added element of norse mythology and viking clans as the setting. Reminded me of The Last Kingdom, so fans of that show should read this!
Thank you Michelle Love for the Arc in exchange for my honest review.
I loved this so much. I loved the story and how it went. The spice was amazing. I loved the characters and how they interacted with each other. It was a really good cozy read. I loved the shifter aspect of it too.
So it was a sweet story the romance was cute but other than that it was boring and lackluster. It was way too rushed for me…. One minute they knew each other the next they were together. Story was boring and just had a lot of unnecessary smut with little or no story behind it. But if you want something where you don’t have to think about anything
In my honest opinion, this book wasn't really my favorite.
I was somewhat intrigued by the first half of the book, and then halfway until the end I was just waiting for it to be done with because it didn't feel like anything was picking up.
The romance was instant love, not a whole lot felt really original, and the majority of the book was the main characters loving on each other, which can be fine to an extent, but I want more surrounding the characters and world with high stakes and political intrigue which I think the author tried to do, but any conflict the characters met was almost instantly resolved.
I still gave it three stars because I didn't hate the book, it was easy to read, I did read it quickly and it is a simple book for you to enjoy if you are tired of high fantasy, intense plots. I think that was my biggest problem is I was hoping for more and my expectations weren't really met. And that is okay!
Not all books are meant for everyone and the majority of books are for the authors themselves. I appreciate authors wanting to share what they have created with other people in hopes they may enjoy their world with them.
Overall I am greatly honored to have been selected as an ARC reader for this book and leave my honest review.
I have high hopes for Michelle if she decides to continue with more novels.
This was such a cute and quick read! I loved the fated mates theme, the comfort she finds, and the strong women tied into Norse mythology. From the very first page, the story flew by—I was completely drawn in.
It starts with some rough conditions, but once she finds her wolf and feels their heartbeats match, everything changes. Waking up to the man of her dreams, who feels the same way, was so satisfying. She no longer has to return to a place where she isn’t wanted or loved, and instead gets to start a new life with her wolf.
I especially loved the epilogue—we got to see their life in the future, which gave me the reassurance of a true HEA. This was actually my first read based on Norse mythology, and it was really intriguing. Of course, I’d heard of Loki (the god of mischief) and Odin, but the other names and stories were new to me, and it was refreshing to explore that side of the mythology.
Brielle is a young woman raised in a patriarchal monotheistic society where she is unappreciated and treated as barely more than a servant. When she’s rescued by Leif, she learns that there is a better life for her where she can not just survive, she can thrive. This is a story about a woman finding herself, embracing her power and learning how to love and be loved by someone who respects and understands her. It’s a beautiful love story and the author has done a magnificent job of telling it. What an amazing debut novel & I can’t wait to read more!
Story starts off like a wattpad entry and remains one throughout....the premise was intriguing but the characters did not bring the intensitiy through...
To say I was excited to receive the ARC for Heart of the Wolf is an understatement. I’ve been looking forward to reading this book since I first saw Michelle Love’s IG posts about it, and it was everything I wanted in a romantasy! I’m a sucker for Vikings, wolves, fast-burn fated mates, and healthy green flag romances where two lovable MCs quietly build a strong and lasting love. So to say this book scratched every one of my itches is putting it lightly.
The writing here is gorgeous. Not overly verbose or dense, the intelligence and intention of the prose immerses you in the world without bogging you down with unnecessary details. The dialogue was natural and authentic, the world building was light but enough to paint a clear and vibrant picture. The romance was the focus here, and it showed.
The characters were well developed, believable, and likable. Brielle (FMC) is an English healer. She is lonely and outcast in her community, and dreams of the man she saw 10 years ago when he came to collect their tithe. Her growth throughout the book is staggering, and the way she faces her fears to ingratiate herself into Norse culture makes her a warm and gentle soul that is easy to root for.
Leif (MMC) is the ‘king’ of the Norse clans, a man blessed by Odin to shift into a huge wolf. He saves Brielle from an attempted attack, and their bond becomes undeniable. Leif is the perfect combination of touch-her-and-die and gentle cinnamon roll wrapped in green flags. He can deny her nothing, and his desire to worship her and his penchant for praise kink makes him a yummy morsel I couldn’t get enough of. She truly compliments him, and the author did a fabulous job showcasing how their souls complete each other.
The romance was a 10/10. I absolutely love a quiet, easy, healthy cozy romance, with little angst and a whole lot of chemistry. This delivered. These two had me giggling, gasping, kicking my feet, and smiling so big my face hurt. The spice was 🥵🔥.
I don’t want to say more, but if you love Vikings, strong women, spicy men who love to praise, the best found family, fated mates, and a swoon worthy romance that nothing can tear apart, I recommend Heart of the Wolf!! (I already preordered the physical book for my shelf and to reread whenever I want. I know it’ll be a comfort read for me!)

Viking romance and wolf shifter??! Don't forget damsel in distress! This should have been my perfect book. And it was for maybe the first 10-15% of the book. But by 30%, it lost me and I skimmed the last 40% of the book. My biggest issue? Was the MMC claiming they were soulmates the moment they met and she just accepted and agreed with it. There was no build up, romance, or yearning. The MMC said they were soulmates and have known each other in different lifetimes, but there was never any evidence or world building to show it. They had only seen each other from a distance once a year for what? Maybe 5 years. There's nothing in this plot line that gives romance. Although, I guess if I woke up to a handsome wolf shifter viking, I might not question it either. My second issue is one that I feel actually comes up in a lot of books. The MMC said he wanted a woman who would challenge him, who was strong, and tell him things he didn't want to hear. Did the FMC do this? No! Okay, maybe at the end of the book, but definitely not before MMC declared she was the perfect partner and even nicknamed her 'firebird'. Here are 2 situations that could have been perfect opportunities that would have made FMC worthy of that nickname:
1. In the beginning the FMC talks about how she is the village's only healer and wants to help her people make it through the winter. Even says she has skipped eating to be sure others have food. It's why she is in the woods in the first place when the MMC meets her. But then not once does she ask him to have mercy on her village, even after he said I will do whatever you ask of me. Sure, it turns out her father is a piece of crap who lied, but there is never a fight in her to save the starving people of her village. Would have been better if she would have fought for them and then found out the truth of her father.
2. She is a healer and he had been injuried a handful of times throughout the book. It would have been nice if one of the times he had gotten injuried he would be his normal stubborn self and didn't want help. But being the "firebird" that she was supposed to be, she was determined and bossy and got him cleaned up/healed.
That would have shown that she could challenge him.

I really enjoyed this book—especially knowing it began as a Draco x Hermione fanfiction (even though I haven’t read the original yet… that’s next on my list). It was a quick, addictive read I genuinely struggled to put down.
I’ll admit, it took a second to adjust to the image of a Draco-inspired character built like a Viking. I’m so used to him being portrayed as lean and sharp-edged in fanfiction that Leif felt like a completely different physical presence. But once I settled into it, I was in. Leif is undeniably swoon-worthy—devoted, protective, endlessly attentive. He may not carry that signature Draco coldness or dry, cutting humor, but he brings a different kind of intensity: steady, consuming, and deeply loyal. And honestly, who doesn’t love a man who doesn’t play about his woman?
That said, Leif absolutely carried the story for me.
I found myself wanting more from Brielle. I’ve grown a bit tired of female main characters who lean too heavily into the damsel-in-distress role, and Brielle unfortunately falls into that space. While I understand that Leif’s instinct is to protect and provide, I kept wishing she would push back more—be more stubborn, more involved, more present in shaping her own life and place within the community.
At times, despite the constant praise and devotion Leif shows her, she felt more like something to be cherished than someone fully realized. I wanted more depth, more agency—more moments where she drives the narrative instead of being carried by it.
The pacing, however, was a strong point. The story moves quickly and never drags, which made it incredibly easy to binge in one sitting. The relationship progression is satisfying in that fast, consuming way, but I do wish Brielle’s arc had been given the same level of attention as the romance.
Overall, it’s a swoon-worthy pairing with a compelling dynamic, but I couldn’t help wishing Brielle had been given more—more angst, more action, more voice. She deserved to leave a stronger imprint on the story beyond being loved, protected, and claimed.
Sometimes the right book finds you at the right time, and that was definitely the case for me. I’ve had this ARC on my list and saved it for a day when I thought I could finish the whole thing, and that ended up working perfectly because I could not put it down. It was the ideal cozy read for a lazy day when all I wanted was a swoon-worthy MMC.
Heart of the Wolf is a Viking romantasy, but it definitely falls more to the side of fantasy romance than romantic fantasy. The fantasy in this is relatively light. There isn’t a ton of world-building to digest. And the fantasy elements, while integral to the overall story, aren’t all that strictly necessary for the plot. So this is great for anyone in the mood for a touch of low-stakes fantasy.
The book seemed pretty well written. Honestly, I got so swept up in the story that my editing English major brain turned off. There weren’t any errors/issues so egregious that it distracted me from just enjoying the book. However, there were a few moments that I noticed didn’t seem to follow through with the in-story logic. Some of the events and motivations of characters didn’t really make sense within the story the author character. That happens to be a personal pet peeve of mine. In the grand scheme of things, those moments didn’t really harm the story or my enjoyment of it, but I think some tweaks could have made the story even better. I absolutely loved the main characters. They were so fun and lovable. I thought the FMC in particular showed some decent character growth. It was easy to become invested in their love story. Some of the side characters, as much as I enjoyed them, could have used a little more fleshing out.
Overall, this was just a really easy, fun read. There were moments of darkness, but the love story is really front and center. I gave this 4.25 stars, and 3 🌶️s for spice.
Regency vibes with a wolf shifter and Vikings… and propriety was definitely not invited.
🐺 “It’s all you, man or wolf makes no difference.”
This is low-angst, fated mates, insta-love, no miscommunication. No fighting the bond, just immediate devotion. Leif is a fierce Viking king with major alpha warrior energy, but for Brielle? Completely soft, tender, and obsessed.
🐺 “I could not leave you. Never leave you. My soul is bound to yours. There is forever in your eyes.”
Brielle’s journey from unwanted to deeply cherished (hello, found family 🥹) gave all the good feels. There’s some suspense and clan drama, but the heart of the story is their relationship.
🐺 “You are playing a dangerous game, my little firebird is going to get burned if she’s not careful.” “Maybe I want to catch fire”
The worldbuilding is simple and accessible, which honestly made it the perfect cozy binge. It’s not overly complicated… the focus stays right where it should be: on the romance mixed with Norse mythology. It’s spicy, sweet, protective, and full of good feels.
🐺 “Demon or angel mattered not. For what was Satan but a fallen angel? He was her sin and her salvation.”
It’s the kind of story that makes you want to be tucked away in a snowy cabin with a wolf king who would absolutely burn the world down for you… but also braid your hair and bring you a kitten.
