Jacob's Ladder #1

Jacob's Ladder: Gabe

Rate this book
As the lead songwriter for Jacob’s Ladder, the last thing Gabe Renard needs is a debilitating case of writer’s block. After years of meaningless one night stands, he's finding it hard to pen the love-filled ballads the label is requesting. In an effort to clear his mind, Gabe takes his jeep off-roading in the North Georgia Mountains. When a wrong-turn leads to him getting stuck more than just creatively, he’s forced to call for help. To his surprise, the “Ray” who has been sent by Hart Wreckers to his aid is actually “Rae”—a sexy-as-hell spitfire in a pair of tight-as-hell jeans. The combination of Rae’s sassy mouth and rocking body might be the inspiration Gabe needs. But for the first time since becoming a rock star, his advances have been shot down.

Reagan Hart has never been a fan of musicians. In fact, just the mention of one might cause her to throw a tire tool. Her disgust for them started when she was just eight and her mother ran off with a traveling country singer, and it only worsened when at seventeen, her rocker boyfriend knocked her up before blowing out of town. As a single mother taking care of her family's collision business, Rae doesn't have time for hook ups, much less a relationship. And if she did make time, a musician would be last on her list, even one as good-looking as Gabe Renard.

Can Gabe find the words to prove not only to Rae, but himself, that she’s the only one for him?

I'm a big fan of Katie Ashley's Runaway Train series, but apparently not big enough since I stupidly waited to start the spin off series. This is Gabe's story, whom you've met in the previous series, but can be read alone without any spoilers.

The book actually focused on Gabe alone for the most part, not his siblings/band, which I liked. I still enjoyed getting those little parts of the secondary characters but I thought Gabe's own story worked really well with him being away from them. Plus it gave us more time to focus on him and Rae together. I thought they made a great couple and I liked that Rae wasn't some meek mild-mannered woman, she was tough and not afraid to speak her voice. Which mixed perfectly with Gabe's character who could be a little too cocky at times, but was mostly just very sweet.

If you like rockstars of the brooding variety, this is the book you want to read next.

Finally we got more of the boys.

I 've been really looking forward to read more of the Jacobs Ladder boys. After getting a bit of them in the Runaway Train series I was really looking forward to more. This book did not disappoint. I really liked that the Renard Twins are total different. Gabe is shy and quiet where Eli is just funny and out goin. Gabe isn't short of female attention but he seems to think the the woman would like Eli more. So far I don't I really like Gabe. But everything that he said he didnt like it do by the end he did. This is what happens when met Rae. She really understood him and knew where is his head was at. Plus Gabe really needed her she seem to help him open up. He was dealing with writer block which he really wasn t dealing will with. But even spending a short amount of time with her seem to have words flooding in head. They didn't have a great first met but Gabe wasnt goin to let her go.

Rae is a great woman things haven't been easy for her and her family. But she deals with them, she might not deal with them in a good way sometime but she tries. Rae as been hurt to many time and it all seems to involve music. So you can imagine her thoughts about Gabe. The only thing was that Gabe had set spark of that she had buried deep inside. So she wasn't prepared for what he had planned for her and she needed to protect herself and other.

I really enjoyed this book. I m a big fan of the author Runaway Train series is one of my favourite. So I knew this was goin to be good. The story was good and very hot in parts. Rae and Gabe were so good together they both understood each other. Even when she was pushing him away he wouldn't let her. Once she finally let Gabe in they were inseparable. There such a great couple and smoking hot together. I m really looking forward to more of this series I just know Eli's book is going to be good. I would highly recommend this book I couldn't get enough of it once I started it. Gabe is just amazing.

This is the first book I’ve read by Katie Ashley and there was much a really enjoyed about this story, but it got off to a rough start. I’m going to be upfront and say that the first interaction between the hero and heroine almost had me mark this one as a DNF; there was nothing endearing our seemingly redeeming about the hero, but the heroine was kick a$$, so I kept reading and I’m glad I did. Can a single mom who loathes musicians and a kid hating country rock star find happiness? Apparently they can in Jacob’s Ladder: Gabe by author Katie Ashley.

Riddled with writer’s block and worrying about his and the future of his band Jacob’s Ladder, Gabe Renard takes some time off in the backwoods of Georgia to try and write but instead finds himself needing a tow and then being a sleaze to Reagan (Rae) Hart when she comes to help him out. While he wasn’t pleased Rae turned him down on his offer, she inspires him and he begins to realize she is his muse.

It was fun to watch these two bright out the best in one another. Rae made Gabe want to be a better man, to go back to his roots and the way he was taught to treat a woman right. I was impressed that under the spoiled musician was a good man with manners. Gabe taught Rae how to lighten up and have fun and take time just for herself. Being a single mom who managed a busy business, Rae was in a rut and Gabe got her out of that and taught her how to live. I was also impressed with Rae’s son, Linc, and his insightful ways, I think Linc was good for Gabe as well and I know that Gabe was good for Linc even if the two made a couple of crucial errors when dealing with Rae.

Watching Gabe and Rae get to know one another and move from animosity, to friends and more was exciting and fun; both had tempers and when they flared they tended to speak in anger first and think second, but at least in the end they both realized they needed to work on their communication skills to be a successful couple.

I thoroughly enjoyed Jacob’s Ladder: Gabe and am looking forward to what Ms. Ashley has in store for Gabe’s twin, Eli.

A wonderful single mum romance by Katie Ashley.

I finished on a heartwarming high.

I loved the characters Gabe and Rae and extended characters too.
Jacobs Ladder truly is a feel good read that you can get immersed in.

Gabe is the drummer and songwriter in the famous band Jacobs ladder and while struggling with writers block Gabe goes out of the city for peace and quiete to find the words.

Gabe gets stuck in mud in his truck after driving of road and is rescued by Rae who owns a recovery business.

When Gabe and Rae first meet Gabe's sexist remark's don't go down too well with Rae who is a feisty character and gives as good as she gets.

Rae lives in a small town with her sisters and dad and runs the business her father started before he fell ill.
Rae is a mother in her late twenties and has had a bad experience with musicians. First her ex who was in a band left her when pregnant at 17 and before that her own mother left when she was just a little girl to run away with the singer of a band on tour leaving her dad and sisters behind.

It's an icy start for Rae and Gabe but Rae's sass sparks something in Gabe and his writers block is lifted, Gabe is determined to spend more time with Rae which takes a lot of persuasion.

Rae becomes Gabes muse. A friendship develops between Gabe and Rae along with her son Linc.

Jacobs Ladder is a heartwarming romance that tackles insecurities and trust before leading to a romance filled with hot chemistry.

Gabe is a swoon worthy guy who has insatiable appetite and the sex scenes are hot!.

I loved Jacobs Ladder and looking forward to more from Katie Ashley. The cherry on the cake, Gabe has a twin brother. I would live more in this series to also see how Gabe and Rae are doing.

Told in first persons dual pov and leads to a hea.

Gabe Renard is suffering serious writer's block and as the deadline for the new Jacob's Ladder draws nearer, he is beginning to panic. He tried hanging out in the country home of his sister, Abby and her husband, Jake, but it did not help bring the words.

He tried a solitary adventure that took a wrong turn and put him in the path of small town spitfire, Rae Hart. She is sassy, responsible, and works for her family's wrecker company. Jake's cocky attitude and proposition did not impress her, in fact he might have inspired some stronger feelings like disgust or hate.

But she got him unstuck in more ways than one. And now he is going to have to find a way to spend more time with his unexpected and antagonistic muse. She is a busy, working single mom and has no faith in musicians or men passing through. But he can't seem to find the words without her. Too bad she does not want anything to do with him.

The first time Gabe is rejected by a woman is the time he needs her most. But all he thinks he needs is the inspiration. He never expected to find a woman, especially one that is a single parent. And he certainly is not looking to settle down...he just needs his muse.

As their lives collide and attraction grows, things take on a mind of their own. Rae is intuitive and really sees and understands Gabe. He has longed to be chosen first for something over his twin. She has trust issues, especially with musicians. But he tries to make her understand that she is special and that he respects her. They have amazing chemistry, and are connecting and feeling more than they ever thought they would. But their lives are inherently different. He's always going to be a music man, and she is the independent-minded, single mom from a small town who works in a male dominated business. Trust is hard earned and hard to maintain. They have obstacles in their way that have no easy solution.

I have been waiting for Gabe and Eli's book since first meeting them in Music of the Heart. Talented, gorgeous, sexy twins--what is not to like?! I loved Gabe. He was both cocky and charming, but also thoughtful and caring. There was a vulnerability in him due to his own insecurities. And Rae was a fun and fiery with a nurturing side, but also had her own fears. And she was used to being independent and making her own choices. They could both be strong willed, stubborn, and opinionated.

This is a funny, sweet, sexy love story of a small town girl and a country star. It is told in dual points of view allowing us to to understand their feelings even when they hide them. It brings back old friends from the Runaway Train series and introduces us to her spirited sisters, Ellie and Kennedy, her son, Linc, and their family. I loved seeing Gabe interact with her son and those scenes just melted my heart. I am looking forward to Eli's book and seeing the second twin fall.

This is a not-so-typical rocker romance.

Struggling desperately with writer's block, Gabe is searching for inspiration. After getting stuck while seeking solitude, his muse turns up in the form of the tow truck driver, Rae. Unfortunately, his first impression is quite lasting in the most negative way. Realising that Rae could be the answer to his band's - Jacob's Ladder - prayers, Gabe gets creative to spend time with her.

I liked that Rae & Gabe truly seemed to reflect off of & learn from each other. Rae learns to trust & Gabe learns a bit more about responsibility & maturity.

I would definitely read the next book in the series, and look forward to it.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book, and recommend it.

Jacob's Ladder: Gabe (Jacob's Ladder #1) by Katie Ashley is the first book by this author that I read. My thoughts in general on her writing style is that she presents an easy digestible read. The characters are well developed and likeable. And the story is well written and the development is deep enough to feel connected but not to heavy to be deeply invested.
Which already explains why it did not make the 5th star. I was not feeling with the characters in a way that it brought tears to my eyes. Which can go both ways as in tears of devastation and hurt or from laughing.

When I started reading the book Gabe made me feel like I should know more about his background but it seems that it is the first book of a series so maybe he was in another series as a secondary character? Anyway once I was moving with the flow the story felt good and I could read the book in two short sessions.

If you like Rockstar romances I am pretty sure you will especially like this one. It’s plot is far better than many previous books I read of that genre. It feels as if the author paid special attention to not make it a cliché read.

And besides on moment when I felt Rae was going overboard and acted unreasonable the author did a great job at that. I have to admit the author even found a good explanation for the actions of Rae later so if you ask me what I think about this book I would tell you that I can truly recommend it to you if the blurb appeals and if you like an easy digestible read.

Jacob's Ladder is not my first book from this author, so I knew in advance what to expect out of it.
Katie Ashley is a talented writer who creates characters you will easily connect to.
This was the first book in the Jacob's Ladder series, and it sure was a great start to potentially interesting series.
If you love rock star/single parent books, you will enjoy this one.
The ending was everything I hoped it would be and the pacing of the story line kept me interested.
I am and looking forward to read more from Katie Ashley.

A songwriter with writer's block and a sassy, business owner and small town woman cross paths in the middle of nowhere. Now, doesn’t that sound like a bad joke? After just one meeting (insert verbal sparring match), Gabe is able to once again pick up a pen, the words flowing like water through a wheel.

Jacob’s Ladder is the first in a new series by the highly acclaimed author Katie Ashley. This is my first foray into her work and I was not disappointed. Jacob’s Ladder is a spin-off series of Katie Ashley’s Runaway Train series. It isn’t necessary that you read the previous series to Jacob’s Ladder, however, some of the secondary characters in this book were main characters, in the previous series. Hearing history and plotlines from Runaway Train and not having read them made me feel like I’d missed out on something. That feeling of missing out did in no part ruin this well structured story.

Rae was a suspicious woman by nature. How many times does life have to kick you in the face before you stay down? Rae never gave up, she hesitated and sometimes ran away from situations she didn’t want to deal with. Fear was a very real thing for her, she had so many high expectations of herself, and of what she should and shouldn’t do. Her past isn’t easy or clear cut, blackness and ghosts drag her down quicker than quicksand. Close to her family, Rae often runs to her sisters or father for advice or help.

Money and fame can’t buy you self esteem. Gabe is talented and successful, but you would never know it from the way he sees himself. He’s in a band and yet to himself he’s always commenting on how badly he sings. That song writing is the only thing that makes him worth something.

Gabe and Rae are two highly independent, stubborn people and the way they are makes this tale oh so much more intriguing. They’re both crazy, insecure and worth so much more than they give themselves credit. To me as a reader there is nothing better than a story with slowburn romance. Both Gabe and Rae have serious insecurity and trust issues, but knowing now what I know, I couldn’t blame either of them for them. They are byproducts of their pasts and of their families, even if their families are loving and supportive.

The emotion and romance in Jacob’s Ladder was fluidly composed, like a classical music piece that rolls over your skin like rain falling from the sky. Nothing was ever easy but it was, in this humble reviewer's opinion, oh so worth it.

“Would it be too much to ask for you, too?”
“You have me. Mind, body, and soul.”
“And heart?”
“Always.” Without a doubt in my mind.”

Gabe Renard has a serious case of writer’s block. As the head songwriter for his family’s band, Jacob’s Ladder, his stress level is through the roof with pressure to write. While on a drive to clear his head and try to find words, he is rescued (literally and figuratively) by a smoking hot woman in a wrecker. His middle of nowhere rescue may be just what he needed to get unstuck.

Rae Hart has a learned mistrust of musicians. Every musician she has ever encountered has left her, and even though Gabe is good looking, his musician status is an immediate no-go for her. She doesn’t have time for a hook-up, but when Gabe persists she can’t help but give a little.

From Gabe’s foot-in-mouth moments to Rae’s confidence, I loved everything about their first encounters. These two each have so much going on in their lives that the sparks that fly between them through them both off. It was so nice to see their friendship build as Gabe finds his words and works to keep them flowing.

Rae’s family added a fun element, especially when all three sisters are together and their aunt joins in the fun. Linc’s hand in Gabe and Rae’s first few meetings also had me grinning.

This was a fun overall read. I had a few challenges remembering who was who and personalities of the Jacob’s Ladder members, simply because I was trying to make the connections and was having a hard time remembering.

Jacob's Ladder: Gabe (Jacob's Ladder) by Katie Ashley
He's a rock star, with the world at his feet.  She's a single mother and business owner working to make ends meet.  Gabe and Rae come from different worlds, but they have one thing in common.  Responsibility.  He has a band that counts on his talent with words to keep the fans happy and the money coming in.  She has a family relying on her to keep the business in the red.  Neither has the time for romance, but a chance meeting strikes a chord to the heart.  I love a good fairy tale and Ms. Ashley delivered a bit of that with Gabe and Rae.  She also went beyond the superficial by giving both characters a depth that is sometimes lacking in romance.

NO SPOILERS!

Jacob's Ladder: Gabe was a sweet, sexy, and entertaining standalone contemporary romance, and I loved it! Katie Ashley is an extremely talented author, and I fell in love with her writing style and books after reading the Runaway Train series and The Proposition series from her several years ago. I was so excited when I found out that she was going to write the Jacob's Ladder series, a spin-off to the Runaway Train series. The storyline and characters she created in Jacob's Ladder: Gabe were amazing, and I loved them so much.

Gabe and Rae were wonderful and I loved them and their story. I loved their personalities and red-hot chemistry together, and I enjoyed how their relationship progressed throughout. I loved reading the book from both Gabe and Rae's POV, and I enjoyed most of their banter and interactions with each other. There were a few parts that I didn't like, but other than that, I really don't have anything else negative to say. I loved the secondary characters as well, and I truly enjoyed getting to see a few familiar faces from the Runaway Train series. Jacob's Ladder: Gabe was a very enjoyable read from beginning to end, and I was extremely happy with the conclusion to Gabe and Rae's story.

Jacob's Ladder: Gabe was a sweet, sexy, charming, and entertaining standalone contemporary romance, and an amazing start to the Jacob's Ladder series! Katie Ashley did a fantastic job with this book, and even though there were a few things here and there that I didn't love, I truly enjoyed Gabe and Rae's story from start to finish and was very pleased with the outcome. It's been a few years since I've read anything from Katie Ashley, but she is without a doubt one of my favorite contemporary romance authors, and I am so excited to read more from her, especially the rest of the Jacob's Ladder series!

Looking for a bit of a sweet, swoony read? Look no further than Jacob's Ladder: Gabe. It's a quick, sexy rock star read that will leave you wanting more from these amazing characters.

In Jacob's Ladder: Gabe, we meet Reagan "Rae" and Gabe. Gabe's the songwriter for his family's award winning band Jacob's Ladde. Problem is he's suffering from a debilitating case of writer's block that nothing is helping him recover from. In a hope that a big change of scenery and some peace and quiet will be the cure, Gabe heads off on his own to the mountains. Little did he know one massively wrong turn and a stint stuck in the mud would lead Gabe to his muse: Rae.

Rae has some bad history with musicians. Her distaste stems from her mom running off with one when she was just eight years old and her rocker boyfriend leaving her alone the day her son was born without another word since. So as a single mom, she's doing her best to raise her son and keep her business afloat. The last thing she needs is a hot, sexy musician to come into her life and turn it upside down, right?

I really enjoyed my time with Rae and Gabe. Their relationship was cute and fun and mostly adult. Except for few bumps along the way, they treated each other with love and respect and acted like adults. I'm looking forward to more in the series! ~ Missy, 4 stars

Amazing!!

I absolutely loved Gabe and Rae. Almost as much as I loved Jake and Abby. My only reason for four and not five stars was because there was a lot of errors in the beginning and middle and some paragraphs would restart over. Other than that amazing and another great book from Katie Ashley. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for Eli.

Oh and also why leave me hanging. I hated we don’t get to see a wedding or Gabe adopting Linc.

Blurb:

If it isn't Gabe offending Rae, it's Rae offending Gabe, "Gabe scowled. “Of course not. I’m not paying to eff you— just to hang out with you.” Gabe has no problem taking over the reigns when things are stalled, "I gasped. “Um, well, not a total bush, but it’s certainly not how I’d prefer you to see it.” His eyes popped open. Before I could protest anymore, Gabe jerked my panties down..." Gabe is seriously an entertaining guy, “I’m not sure I like the direction this conversation has taken.” He glanced down at his slackening erection. “Not to mention what it’s done to my ***k.” I adored thia book, it was such a fun read, and the characters were so lovable and I can't wait for Eli's story.

Outstanding

Wow this story is the best. Songwriter, drummer for famous band Jacobs Ladder, Gabe is stuck, unable to write songs, so encouraged by his family, takes off from Atlanta to the backwoods to find his muse. He never dreamed it would be a dark haired, petite sassy gorgeous spitfire who took him down a few pegs. Lighthearted, funny, family, sexy romance

I love a good rocker book and being a fan of Katie Ashley, it’s even better. Gabe and Reagan are from two completely different worlds. He’s a musician and songwriter and she’s a single mom running her dad’s collision business.

Gabe is stuck in a rut. He’s the songwriter of the band, but he is literally at a loss for words. Deciding to head into the woods for peace and quiet, it’s nothing like he could ever imagine. Being stuck and having to call a tow truck turns his life upside down in more than one way. It turns out that the tow trucker driver isn’t Ray as he thought, but a gorgeous Rae that he can’t help but be attracted to. His one-liners don’t work with Rae because she’s been burned by a musician before, and she’s not going through that again.

Reagan is raising her son and living with her two sisters. She is leading a quiet life and getting by, but she misses having that someone special who won’t break her heart. After towing Gabe’s truck, she never thought he would show up in her life again. When he tells her she is his muse, she thinks it’s another pick-up line. She is so feisty with him because she is not letting her heart or body succumb to another worthless rocker.

I love that she finally couldn’t turn him down and the more they are together, she starts to open her heart to possibilities she never expected. I immediately loved Gabe because he is so different. The little things he does to make her day easier just had me loving him even more. He’s so affectionate and loving and treats her son with so much respect that he blew me away. He didn’t treat him like a kid and he was a part of their lives, not just mentioned and never seen again.

Gabe and Reagan knew there would be obstacles along their way because his life is on the road and she can’t up and leave her family and life she has made in her small town. I enjoyed seeing so much love they shared and seeing characters from Runaway Train made this book so much better. I want more of Jacob’s Ladder!!

Another free e-book that I bumped up on my TBR list because the author is going to be at Book Bonanza this summer. I do love a good rock star romance, and this one was not bad! It took place outside of the rock music world for the most part. But I loved the banter between characters, and it definitely had some heat! I definitely was a little irritated with Rae being so strict about her son Linc being able to get a guitar. I understood her reasoning, but it was just a bit on the ridiculous side. However when it came down to that moment at the end, I like that she realized just how far she'd gone, and I like how she handled it. I feel like the author did a good job of making that realistic. Then, let's just say there was a scene in the kitchen, and Rae was worried she hadn't quite done enough upkeep for a guy to dive in where Gabe was diving in. Let's just say that I think Gabe is my kind of man. I hate that she decided she was a "brazen hussy" for letting things happen at times. For a guy to do those things, we expect it, it makes him a stud. It is unfair that women are thought of differently for doing that same type of thing.

There was one spot in the book where we got first person point of view from Gabe but it was Rae's chapter, that was a bit confusing, a tiny bit of an editing issue. But as it was pretty much the only one I noticed, I was okay with that. I am definitely now interested in meeting this author, as well as reading on for the rest of the band members in this series, and I think maybe there was a series before that I need to check out?

I received a copy of this book by the author for an honest review.

This edition of Jacob's Ladder features Gabe - the drummer for the band.  He also writes all the songs the band uses for their albums.  Trouble is he has a major case of writer's block.  Taking some time away from his family and band mates.  It's during this time is when he meets Rae.  A feisty woman from a small town an hour or so away from Atlanta, GA.

Rae is used to men hitting on her.  Just not famous men.  Though she has no time to date.  As a single mom and business owner she doesn't have much time left over for men who just want one thing.  Yeah, it might be cool to say she did but arrogant, egotistical men aren't her thing.  So passing on Gabe was a no brain-er.

Determined Gabe won't give up on his new muse.  Anything to get Rae to help him write the songs for Jacob's Ladder's next album.  Though spending time with each other actually means they get to know one another - the real parts of each other.

There are some ups and downs in this book.  You might think the book starts off a bit slow but once Rae enters the picture it will read pretty quickly.  I enjoyed these characters. I had to chuckle a few times during the book as they both had their moments.  I'm hope you enjoy this sassy romance by Katie Ashley.  It's one to add to your ereader for sure.
