Elizabeth Lawrence is ready for her trip to Shenandoah National Park with its cascading waterfalls, fields of colorful wildflowers, and wooded hollows with trees that stretch to the sky. Sketchbook in hand, she expects to capture the park's serene beauty, never imagining the hidden dangers that lurk within its depths—or the unexpected jolt her heart will experience.
Counting down his final weeks as a park ranger, Kyle Struggs expects to deal with the usual threats of the rugged terrain, not the whims of privileged visitors he’ll be serving as a private guide. Yet, as he gets to know the inquisitive Elizabeth, he realizes she's nothing like he’d anticipated, and he quickly can’t imagine life without her.
But when a vengeful poacher kidnaps Elizabeth, their blossoming relationship is threatened. Now, Elizabeth must depend on her wits to buy time to survive, while Kyle searches the vast park to save her from the very dangers he swore to protect her against.
This kisses only historical romance is a complete standalone. You don’t need to read any of the other books in the series to enjoy it.
The National Park Brides Book Series will be a multi-author series, each featuring a stand-alone story that covers various National Parks. Because these books are stand-alone, they can be read in any order. Some of the authors may have had previous books that will nicely coordinate with their story in this series. This will be a clean, sweet, historically based series that also includes romances that will develop as the story unfolds. Along the way, the reader will learn more about various National Parks, historical facts, and sights within the parks.
Elizabeth Lawrence, along with her parents, will be among the guests at the opening ceremony held by President Franklin Roosevelt on July 3, 1936. The Lawrence family is from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and will be staying at the park for two weeks. Professor Lawrence and his wife, both are painting artists of wildlife, flora, and fauna, and their daughter, Elizabeth, sketches with pencils. Before their arrival, Professor Lawrence will send a letter to the park asking for a private guide with Park Ranger Kyle Struggs.
Kyle: Wait, I’m a private guide today? I thought I was leading a group. Jeffs: You were. But the family asked for a private guide. Matter of fact, asked for you by name. Kyle: Wonder why. I don’t know them. A private tour? We don’t have enough rangers for that. Have them join with a smaller party if they don’t want a large group. Jeffs: Nope. Can’t do that. Kyle: Soon as other visitors see me leading a single family, they’ll wonder why they don’t get special treatment. We can’t do it. Jeffs: We can when it comes from the top. Kyle: The superintendent?
The story will have Ranger Struggs meeting his private group, just knowing they are going to be trouble, and surprised at how accommodating they are. He never questions them as to why they want private tours, and it isn’t stated. The parents want to paint various views and vistas, and the daughter is delighted with the flora she encounters. Each day is a new adventure—for Kyle and Elizabeth to get to know each other—and the four to enjoy picnics and nature together.
Park Ranger Kyle shares the history and folklore of the park, as well as explaining how the Civilian Conservation Corps helped build the overlooks they’d be visiting. He also warns Elizabeth of the importance of not wandering off alone, and especially to avoid areas not open for tourists. Without trying to worry her, he must be honest when she questions him about the troubles they encountered within the park boundaries before the park even opened. It won’t be long before visitors report that food stores have been vandalized during their days out.
The story has the good, the bad, and the ugly of people. In a moment of upset, Elizabeth will take off, going into an area she shouldn’t, and by the time Kyle gets to her, she has been accosted by a man wearing a park ranger uniform—but not an actual park ranger. Using a gun, he will force Kyle to leave with a message—he wants a $50,000 ransom within three days or he will hurt Elizabeth. The situation has to be reported to her parents and to headquarters. Kyle won’t rest until he goes after Elizabeth and can bring her back safely.
The story has mystery, suspense, life and death danger, and rescue. I liked the chemistry between Kyle and Elizabeth. What he thought would be a whiny girl with a rich family comes as a pleasant surprise, that the family is all down-to-earth, with a love of nature. As with the title of the books, including brides, romance will be included, sometimes subtle and sweet.
I liked how Ms. Sarah Lamb, who lives near Shenandoah National Park, shared facts about the park, about how so many people are displaced, losing generational homes, when the park was created. I live at the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park on the Tennessee side, and the same things happened in its creation in 1940. Too many people never think about those who came before us, who will be forced off the land they homesteaded, so others can enjoy a park.
NOTE: I read this book through my paid subscription to Kindle Unlimited.
The author did a wonderful job describing the scenery. I wanted to see and hear the first waterfall they saw so bad. Kyle is a park ranger at Shenandoah National Park in Virginia but due to an injury he sustained while on duty about 6 months earlier, he has to quit and find other employment. He felt prompted to apply for a position as an assistant at a university in Pennsylvania which he did. The park is having a big opening and he has been personally requested as a guide by the Lawrence family from Pennsylvania. The Lawrence's all love nature and are excited about this visit to the park. The Lawrence daughter, Elizabeth is excited to see all the natural sites and hear the history. Kyle is expecting a spoiled debutante and is pleasantly surprised when Elizabeth loves nature as much as he does. There is an immediate connection between Kyle and Elizabeth. When Elizabeth is kidnapped, Kyle, with help from Mr. Lawrence, takes off on his own to find her. I loved this sweet, clean romance and its HEA ending. I also loved the 1 year later and 20 year later epilogues. Another sweet book that I highly recommend.
I want to start by saying I received an ARC of this book. This is a clean historical romance and part of the National Park Brides series. The main characters are Kyle and Elizabeth. Kyle is a park ranger at Shenandoah National Park and Elizabeth is going on a trip there. When Kyle finds out he is giving a private tour he is upset because he thinks they will be snobby since they are privileged. While taking Elizabeth and her parents on the tour he is proved wrong as Elizabeth and her parents are great people. The more time Kyle and Elizabeth spend together the more they fall for each other. Neither were expecting to find love. Will they open their hearts to each other? When Elizabeth gets kidnapped will Kyle save her before it is too late? I loved seeing Kyle and Elizabeth fall in love. They were great for each other. I loved watching Kyle, Elizabeth, and her parents spend time together. I love a book with suspense and this had the perfect amount of it. I also love when a book has an epilogue and this one did which was great. I have yet to read a book by this author that I didn’t like. Overall, this was a great book.
Elizabeth and her parents are going on a trip to the newly opened Shenandoah National Park to sketch and paint what they see in this beautiful land. Her father hired a private guide, Kyle, yo escort them. Kyle thinks that all wealthy people are snobs and us dreading this tour. However, the minute he lays eyes on Elizabeth he sees that her mannerisms are not those of a snob, nor does she speak like a wealthy, entitled young woman. And, she’s very beautiful to look at! Elizabeth is very pleasantly surprised by their tour guide, too. He tells them that the country is still wild and to be aware of their surroundings. Kyle’s eagle eyes see a disturbing sight in the distance and is positive that they are being watched. He tells his boss about it and reminds Elizabeth and her family to be aware and don’t stray off of the trails. Read this delightfully fascinating book to see what all happens in the Shenandoah Valley and between Elizabeth and Kyle! You will love this book! 📕♥️
This entertaining novella is part of the multi-author National Park Brides series. The books are set in various national parks throughout North America, and each is a stand-alone read. Virginia's beautiful Shenandoah National Park nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains is the setting for this one. I was totally immersed in this setting, from the opening ceremony to the satisfying ending, thanks to the author's vivid descriptions. Along with the beauty of the park come danger, a relentless pursuit, a daring rescue, and sweet romance. The author offers notes at the end of the book concerning the complicated history of the park which I found very interesting. There is a lot packed into this short historical romance story, and I totally enjoyed it. I think Historical Romance fans will enjoy it also. I read an early copy of this book from the author with no obligation to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Set in the summer of 1936, this novel captures the beauty of Shenandoah National Park and the beginnings of a love story born among its overlooks and trails. When the Lawrence family hires ranger Kyle Struggs as their guide, Elizabeth—still reeling from unfulfilled romance back home—finds herself drawn to him. But their budding romance is put to the test when Elizabeth is kidnapped for ransom. Kyle’s courage in rescuing her sparks a future neither of them expected, one that carries them from Shenandoah to Philadelphia and, ultimately, into a lasting marriage.
The epilogue, set twenty years later as their twin sons return to Shenandoah as rangers themselves, beautifully completes the circle. A perfect blend of history, suspense, and romance, this story is a heartfelt tribute to both enduring love and the natural wonder of one of America’s beautiful national parks.
In the National Park Brides series, authors share romances and adventure set in several of North America’s national parks. Sarah Lamb is a new to me author. Sarah Lamb is a talented writer, weaving Shenandoah National Park history (the first national park to the east), the beauty of nature (cascading waterfalls, fields of wildflowers, wooded hollows, and blue sky), with relatable characters (The Lawrence family and Park Ranger Kyle Struggs, twist and turn plot (part mystery / part romance), believable resolution and an expected delightful epilogue. A standalone page turning story, but the author also included The Complicated History of Shenandoah National Park - Virginia 1936. Well done. The National Park Brides series is relevant to our times- everything has a cost.
"Elizabeth" by Sarah Lamb is a captivating tale that follows the journey of Elizabeth and Kyle. The story is steeped in rich history, and the expertly crafted setting of Shenandoah National Park immerses you completely—making you feel as though you are walking alongside the characters. I found myself deeply connected to Elizabeth and Kyle, experiencing their joys, struggles, and fears as if they were my own. The action unfolds in a way that feels genuine and realistic, leaving me eager for more. I was so invested in their story that I didn't want it to end. This sweet, clean read is a gem, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for an engaging and heartfelt narrative.
Sarah Lamb’s historical fiction Elizabeth Shenandoah Bride is part of the National Parks Bride series, but it is easily read as a stand alone novel. I loved Elizabeth’s and Kyle’s story which begins on July 3, 1936 when President Franklin Roosevelt dedicated the park. The story was about young love and forbidden attraction with just enough obstacles and tension to keep it interesting. Be sure to stick around for the author’s notes at the end for some interesting and sad history of the park. I was given an ARC of this book and am voluntarily submitting a review.
This was such a fun book and really took me back to the times we’ve spent in the Blue Ridge Mountains and Skyline Dr in VA (although not as far back as 1936 😉 when this book was set in). The scenery descriptions and the characters were all wonderful and there was a little bit of a twist and mystery to it as well. I highly recommend reading this story.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. The review is my honest opinion of it.
Elizabeth - Shenandoah Bride is a clean and interesting read. It has elements of adventure, romance, suspense, faith, and family. Join the characters as they explore the beauty of Shenandoah National Park and learn to depend on each other when unexpected danger arises.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own and a positive review was not required.
While this book is FICTIONAL it includes pieces of history that occurred during that time period. She's with her parents on vacation as some of the first visitors to the park. He's one of the rangers and escorts them.
This a short sweet story of girl with her parents to the national park opening and she found sweet surprise in Kyle , the hired guide , loved the setting and felt like i was there , there was twists and danger loved it have to read the other stories .read the authors notes . I received for honest review
Awe, to be taken back to my hometown area in Virginia! What a wonderful story that captured the beauty and essence of the Shenandoah Valley! And with characters that held charm, love and even some gusto, it made for a very nice read of romance mixed with mystery. I think this series will go far and Elizabeth's story is one I'll remember a long long time!
A great short story. I loved Elizabeth and her family. They went to an opening of a park. Elizabeth got kidnapped. Their tour guide Kyle comes to her rescue. Will he be able to save her? Read the story to find out. A very interesting story.
I received an advanced copy of the book from the author. This book review is my own opinion.
Enjoyable character with a great plot setting. This is a fun story with Shenandoah National Park, there is a great build on the small details in the story to an epic ending. Full of romance and action to immerse your imagination in, Elizabeth is an entertaining tale!
What an adventure this book is. History, danger and romance, you'll will read about. It's not the boring history you learn in school but a lesson you are happy to learn.
A story that was easily read in a few hours. I certainly learned more about Shenandoah National Park. This book is part of a series of books written about national parks. Loved reading about the beautiful scenery. I received a copy of this book and all opinions are my own.
I started this book expecting another sweet, entertaining story by this wonderful author, and not only were my expectations met, but the element of danger was a surprising twist, and one I thoroughly enjoyed! Add to that a possible, blossoming romance, what more do you need? Loved it!
What a beautiful story, Elizabeth Shenandoah Bride was to read. As you read the story, you can envision what the park was and still is today. Even though it is a fictional story, you will learn some of the history of this great park. Elizabeth arrives at the opening of the park with her parents. They are all amazed of the beauty and grandeur that surrounds them. They tour guide, Kyle is knowledgeable and taken with the beauty and intelligence of Elizabeth too. Just a reminder of what we have here in our country and the price it cost. I was given an ARC of this book by the author for an honest review.
