First, her marriage fell apart, then her life fell apart. She’s been through hell. He just wants to make things better… but will she let him?
Carla Foster is still reeling from what she calls “the ultimate betrayal” of catching her husband in the midst of his infidelity. Now, seemingly stuck in marital limbo, she finally decides to move on with her life only to find herself face-to-face with a monster. As her life begins to crumble, she wonders if things will ever get better. Will Carla be able to find healing and eventually, love?
This is a follow-up to the international best-selling novel, Your Love Is King.
Married at sixteen, a mother twice by seventeen, and thrice a mother and divorced by twenty-four, Adrienne Thompson is no stranger to adversity. Not your typical teenage mother, she went on to complete her college degree and to earn her nursing license. She attributes God's faithfulness as the catalyst for her success in life. Now, having raised three children as a divorced mother, she is sharing a long hidden talent and passion with the world. Using the lessons that life has so expertly taught her as a guideline (betrayal, abusive relationships, self-esteem issues, witnessing the deteriorating effects of drug abuse), she has created stories that will both entertain and inspire the reader.
Adrienne currently resides in Arkansas in her newly empty nest. Formerly an RN, she now writes and publishes her stories full time. She is also a motivational speaker.

I am in love with all of Adrienne Thompson novels, they pull you in during the very first chapter. Carla soul is hurting and time doesn't seem to help it heal. During Carla's story there is a twist and turn of events that will have you reading with your mouth opened WIDE! Although Carla was wilding out in "Your Love Is King" because of her husbands infidelity, in "Better" it will detail her fight and battle with her loving herself again and how to recognize and receive the love that she so deserves.
I really love this book. From the beginning the story took hold of my emotions and just didn't let go throughout the book. Carla had endured so much with Bryan, even though she caught him in a compromising position; at some point she was willing to try to mend the relationship. I just didn't like Bryan's character, he morphed into a monster, even though he was at fault.
After a traumatic event with Bryan, she decided to go away to regroup. At the lowest point in her life she met Michael Ross.
I like the author's storytelling skills, the characters and story was well developed. It was a page turner for me and I look forward to reading her other books.
This was an amazing read! This story is part 2 after You Love Is King and we get the details of why Carla was wilding out like she was. This book had me all in my feelings & I didn't want it to end. I want more Adrienne! Great job!
I loved this beautifully written book. I could not put it down. Bryan was not a very nice man at all and what he did to Carla was uncalled for. Love is a powerful emotion and was shown in different ways; negative and positive. How can one love someone but physically hurt them? How can you still have feelings for someone who does that to you? I am glad Carla found love and I am glad Michael waited for her. Adrienne Thompson has written another captivating book. I highly recommend you read this book.
Adrienne Thompson has done it again…..Better (Your Love is King Book 2) I started reading this and my mouth flew open and stayed opened for a while. Carla was married to the love of her life; Bryan and they had two sons. Carla had a severe headache and decided to leave work early and head home, only to walk in her house and almost have a nervous breakdown. This night changed Carla’s life forever. Great book a must read……….
Oh. My. Goodness. Love. Love. Love this story. Raw and real. Amazing how you can never know the thoughts of the one you love and that love from them until it changes. Down low and in the church. I fear that. It scares me personally to love again. Though I desire that it just makes me stand offish. This is an absolute wonderful story in its real for. I love how Adrienne puts the the story on paper. A page turner.
Better picks up where Your Love is King left off with Marli's best friend Carla. Carla is best been betrayed by her high school sweetheart/husband Bryan. She tries reconciliation, which fails drastically. Carla eventually seeks solace in a cabin and finds more than she anticipated in a gorgeous Cherokee named Michael who loves God and all His marvelous works. Carla struggles to love herself and Michael. Excellent story of trying to love again. Adrienne Thompson has done it again!
What would you do? I said what would you do if you found your man in bed with someone? Yeah that's what I thought. What if it was in your bed in your house with your kids there what would you do?! And for the cherry on top pun intended it's with another man. Yeah that's what Carla had to face coming home early from work sick as a dog this is what she had to face. Carla never saw it coming she thought her marriage was strong. That was certainly enough to send her off the rails. Years later they tried to reconcile but that didn't work. Ha husband was definitely going through something he ended up raping his wife. Through all of these unfortunate events in her life call or meet the love of her life a wonderful man name Michael Ross. Adrianne truly captured the raw emotions and emptiness that collar felt after she quarter husband cheating on her. This author writes in such a way that you feel like you're right in the middle of it all. This book is definitely a book that should be read by a group and discussed afterwards I recommend this book to you.
I started this book on my morning commute, thinking it would be my weekend read. Wrong! I finished it before the end of the day - I somehow managed to get work done, too. Carla's story seriously had me in my feelings. She went through so much! I spent much of the book wanting to shake her and strangle Bryan. He was such... a mess. Not sure exactly what was going on with him, but it was tough to read about. He seemed like two different people.
Loved Michael. He was just what Carla needed. I loved how quietly spiritual he was. He was so thankful for everything, even the rain.
Another good story from Adrienne Thompson. She is truly a gifted storyteller. Whenever I read her books, I find myself holding my breath because I never know what she's going take her characters through. We (the characters and the readers) always get a good Word, though. Thanks for another good read.
I am starting to believe some women prefer pain. They live in denial. Hanging on to the past because reality blows their imaginary world apart. What Carla witnessed with her own two eyes, in her bed. Is a deal breaker. Instead, she ran, buried it and rationalized it to fit her life. Scared to let go, she walked right back in the frying pan (sex with Bryan). Who was a pathological liar and not at all remorseful.
Carla decision to remain silent about the truth. Sentenced the other wife a death sentence. HIV is real and when the behavior of one partner puts the spouse at risk. In my opinion, they have a right to know. Now what they do with the information is no longer your concern. The deacon was out of control. He didn't care about his wife. His itch was too strong not to scratch.
This book makes me sad, because it's a true account. Women are desperate and value a relationship over their health. They willingly suffer in silence to hold onto a worthless man. Tragic.
Infidelity, martial rape, Stockholm's Syndrome and discovering the strength to rise from the ashes. These are not the easiest things to write about, but were executed beautifully in Better. Carla, whom we first met in Your Love is King, is on a journey of discovery. She struggles as a single mother, her feelings of worthlessness after discovering her husband's infidelity and her promiscuity.
Marli, her best friend, offered use of a secluded cabin far away from everybody and everything. Carla goes into seclusion and once there relearns herself. She also finds real love in the form of Michael Ross, a Native American.
This was a good book that dealt with some harsh issues with a realistic sensitivity. I am glad the author showed that God's help and counseling where necessary to assist Carla. Once again, there are sexual scenes implied but nothing specific.

This was a quick, but good read. I was eager to read Carla's story after getting a glimpse of it in the previous book "Your Love Is King". I've never been on the situation Carla found herself in so I kept myself from getting angry at some of her decisions. I found myself crying for and hurting for Carla so many times during this book. It deals with something so serious that many people suffer from. I didn't expect that from Carla's story so I was genuinely shocked when it happened, but I'm glad things turned out the way they did for her.
I have more thoughts about the book but I don't want to give anything away, so I'll just say go read it!!
I love Adrienne Thompson's stories. She writes about real people with real issues and she is not afraid to allow her characters to be vulnerable. Carla's life was a mess and she really needed to step back and get some help, Michael was able to help her see that. He did not try to take the place of God, but he showed Carla that was who she need to depend on.
This story was wondering on so many levels that I don't feel I can adequately express how good it was. Please get a copy, it will bless your life.
I enjoyed this book. I was wondering about Carla in the first book and felt really bad for her, especially finding out about her husband. I can understand why she stayed in limbo so long but four years that was really long. I did enjoy Michael Ross, I could imagine his sexiness coming off the pages. Bryan was really in denial, I really wanted him to deal with his issues and face the facts of his life. However, at the end of wanted more of Carla and Michael, I felt it was a little rushed at the end. Overall, it was a good story.
Mrs. Adrienne Thompson, gurl you have a mind and a writing hand on you. I just wish some of my friends were readers. You write about some real and every day stuff for some. I think of myself as being a strong woman, and I don't think I could handle some of the real and every day stuff some women deal with. Lessons for everyone, only on chapter 8 and have shared tears for Carla and the many other women with stories as this. I for one don't think I could handle this!!!
