She’s the one woman he can’t have.

Past experience has taught FBI Special Agent Clay Bauer not to trust his judgment when it comes to the opposite sex, yet despite his jaded outlook there’s one woman he can’t get out of his head—and she’s off limits. They’re opposites in every way but Zoe’s gotten deep under his skin and when she’s drawn into a dangerous situation against a faceless enemy he steps in to help protect her. Then she disappears without a trace and the loss leaves him reeling. Now he’ll do whatever it takes to bring her back alive.

By the time he realizes what she means to him it could be too late.

Former family lawyer Zoe Renard has been through her own heartbreak but she can’t ignore the magnetic pull between her and Clay. When he comes to New Orleans for a conference, it’s the perfect opportunity for her to see if there might be something real between them. Just as desire ignites into something more powerful than either of them imagined, she’s targeted by a madman bent on revenge. With her life on the line, it’s a race for Clay and his teammates to find her and save her from certain death.

Clay Bauer's team is attending a security conference in New Orleans. Top people from every important agency in the U.S. as well as from abroad are in town to discuss terrorism, drug wars and illegal immigration. Tucker's cousin, the confident Zoe Renard, is an ex-lawyer who gave up her career to become a writer of romantic horror stories and is also volunteering at a women's shelter in New Orleans. Of course Tucker and his buddies have to meet up with her to enjoy NOLA's nightlife. Goth fan Zoe met Clay in Targeted. While a mutual attraction was palpable, the jaded and cynical Clay was and still is rather hesitant to give in because, aside from a little fling, he doesn't have anything else to offer. Since Clay divorced his mentally ill ex-wife, he shies away from relationships.

Heavy on the suspense and action, this third installment in Kaylea Cross's Hostage Rescue Team series is the best so far. Though I'm pretty excited for book #4 Disavowed to be released next year. It might even have the potential to top this third installment. Matt DeLuca will be paired up with the mysterious B. As soon as they faced each other for the first time in Hunted, my interest was peaked. Considering the somewhat disappointing beginning with Marked, I'm very pleased to tell you that this series is getting better with each book.

Matt talking about the mysterious B:
"What, you know her?" Celida asked. Travers was staring at him too.
"Maybe."
"Who is she?"
He shook his head, his mouth twisting in a sardonic smile. "I could tell you, but then she'd have to kill you."

To be honest, when I started to read Hunted, I was hoping for a bit more relationship development. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed what was there but…just give me a bit more in that department next time please. Due to the circumstances, the time schedule was densely packed and I think the author "sacrificed" a small part of Clay and Zoe's romance in favor of the suspense, angst, and action during the second half of the story, which was very fast paced and thrilling, by the way. In order to not spoil it for you, I can't go into details, though. In between the suspense and action, there's some hot smexin' that will make your lady bits tingle.

Given the fact that both main characters came with some baggage, especially Clay's burden was quite heavy, I expected for them to explore these issues more thoroughly. Towards the end, a few % hit the sweet tooth a bit too hard for my liking, though the ending itself was emotional, sexy and very lovely.

Additionally, I was pleased that Hunter, Gage, and Alex, heroes of Kaylea's Titanium Security series (Ignited, Singed, Rekindled) made a cameo in Hunted.

 photo oie_CXMYbF4dauzD_zpsfthugr3a.gif

Aside from my minor issues, Hunted is a well-written and engaging read that features Kaylea Cross's trademark action and suspense, main protagonists with interesting backgrounds, a couple delicious sex scenes and a sick villain who will keep you at the edge of your seat. Hunted can be read as a standalone, although I'd recommend you to read Targeted first.

Recommended read.

FBI Special Agent Clay Bauer met his teammate Tuck’s cousin Zoe Renard when she came to Baltimore a few weeks ago and she got underneath his skin like no one has since his disastrous marriage and divorce. Now he’s in her territory, New Orleans, for a conference along with his teammates and other security & intelligence professionals. She’s gearing up for an all out effort to start something and he’s preparing for it and worried that he won’t be able to resist. Meanwhile, Zoe’s volunteer work at a women’s shelter has unknowingly put her in the crosshairs of an extremely dangerous ex-boyfriend of one of the victims.

I devoured this story and found it hard to put down once things got dicey, which was early on. I fell for both of these characters in the last book as Zoe is unconventional, quirky and embraces life while Clay is almost polar opposite. He’s physically imposing at 6’4” and muscular to a fault so he gets away with being taciturn and solitary...until Zoe who sees right into his soul. Their romance was just as explosive as the action and suspense, which is saying something because that was off the charts. The danger was palpable, taking my breath away...as did the steamy interludes!

Cross is an absolute master at writing vivid, scary and riveting action scenes but she outdid herself in crafting Clay and Zoe’s romance. Both deserved a good story and they got a great one. This is definitely my most favorite to date and I had high expectations that were far exceeded. 4.5 stars

The third book in the Hostage Rescue Team series by Kaylea Cross. FBI Special Agent Clay Bauer is in New Orleans with several members of HRT for some kind of conference nearby and they visit Tuck's cousin, Zoe Renard, since they are there. Clay finds the quirky lady sexy and when trouble comes along he steps up.

Another good addition to the series. I loved the characters and the story and there really isn't much more to say. I am enjoying this series.

Wow! This is possibly the best Kaylea Cross book I've read. Excellent plot. Hot, bordering on steamy, romance. Bite your nails suspense. Be careful when you hit the last half of the book or you will be spending your night reading instead of sleeping, it's that good. Kaylea Cross has been teasing this pair for the first two books, so this isn't an insta-love situation, which I really like. The next couple meet in this book, Matt and the mysterious B. I can't wait!

FBI Special Agent Clay Bauer is a cynical man. He has reason to be. His ex-wife really did a number on him and now his trust for anyone of the opposite sex is non-existent. Yet . . . he finds himself inexplicably drawn to his best friend's cousin, the quirky Zoe. They are vastly different people but the attraction is there and Clay is determined not to act on it.

Zoe Renard is a bestselling author of romantic horror books and pours her heart and soul into them, especially the steamy sex scenes. Her own life is not quite that steamy, but she wants to change that with Clay Bauer. When Clay is in New Orleans for a conference she pulls out all the stops to get him in her bed.

The national security conference is a powerful draw for the terrorists and everyone there knows that. While looking at the conference for any threat, Clay and Zoe miss the real personal threat that her volunteer work has put her in. Now an unstable unsub has Zoe and when he get what he wants he will have no reason to keep her alive. Her only chance for survival is using her wits and praying that Clay and his team can find her in time.

As always with this author I really loved this book and read it in almost one sitting.
It packed steam and action, and I liked how Zoe is a Goth, so not your usual heroine.
What I didn't like as much was how all happened so fast. The whole book happens in the span of 2 days, so I had a hard time believing in their feelings being so strong so fast, and I wish we had more character development and seeing them getting to know each other better.

But other than that, I spent a great time and am so looking forward to reading Schroder's story!

I really really enjoyed this book. The HRT men and the women they ultimately loose their hearts to are Amazing. This is Clay and Zoe' s story along with some of the other HRT men. Clay is a quiet take charge when necessary seal and Zoe is a quirky "I am who I am and I don't care if you like me or my style" kinda gal! I loved her uniqueness her attitude and her ability to love and live her life after an abusive marriage. I loved how she pulled Clay out of his shell after his bitch of an ex tried to ruin him and his career. And what I especially LOVED was the story, the sexiness and the modern day topics thrown into this amazing read. Kaylea Cross knows how to write brillant books that offer military romance and drama perfectly.
This book is drama, romance, sexy times (push ups and suit porn that's all I'm saying, read the book to find out...hawt!) Great story and great characters set in NOLA!

4.25 RATING- If you haven't read the earlier books in the Hostage Rescue Team series, I'd recommend starting with the first one, Marked. While each book could work as a stand alone just fine, there seems to be a bit of a lead in to the next book in each one. Sometimes in a series you have to read one book to get to the one you want but each book in the Hostage Rescue Team series has been a good, solid, enjoyable read and I can recommend them all! Hunted was definitely no exception!

I really liked the characters in Hunted. Clay and Zoe really balanced each other out. Especially love the strong and capable heroines this author writes! I wish there would have been just a bit more bedroom time because Clay is my favorite type of hero, a little rough around the edges with a streak of dominant! Oh yeah! Would have loved to have spent a bit more time with this sexy hero!

He wanted to kiss her so badly, touch her naked body and stroke her until she trembled, make her cry out his name. He was dying to find out if she’d like the rough edges of his sexuality that he’d never let anyone see. Clay wanted Zoe to see him. The real him, nothing held back. His gut told him they’d be explosive together in bed, in the best way possible.

Handling explosives was one of his specialties.

It was nice to get some cameos from the Titanium Security characters, love all those guys! Hunted provides a nice set up for the next book in the series which I'm hoping will be Matt and B's story. B certainly seems like an intriguing character and I have full confidence in Kaylea Cross to make her completely bad ass! For readers that enjoy romantic suspense, if you haven't read the Hostage Rescue Team or the authors Titanium series, you should! A MUST read for me with a great balance of suspense and sexy! Can't wait for the next one!

This series just keeps getting better with each book. Zoe is such a unique character I loved her when she was introduced in book 2. She is best friends with Celida and cousin to Tuck. She is everything I like in my h as she is not shy about saying what she wants and does not take sh*t from anyone. She lives in New Orleans and is a writer. She also helps out with families who are in need. This story begins with her aiding a mother and son escape an abusive boyfriend. The boyfriend has connections and so Zoe tucks her friend in a safe house that is off the grid. If you've read book 2 you know there is something special between H/h if this is your first book in the series don't worry you'll be able to follow as each book is a stand alone.

Clay has went through a nasty divorce and doesn't want to hurt Zoe because he admires and respects her and is best friends with Tuck. The whole team is New Orleans for conferences and this brings the two back together again. Zoe does not beat around the bush with Clay but it is Clay who draws the line. This doesn't last long and the two are in a spiral of feelings for one another they can't deny. I loved the chemistry and heat between the two. Zoe's declaration, " I write about falling in love for a living, so in a way that makes me an expert on the subject. I recognize the signs when I need them. And it's happening to us right now."

Clay's declaration, " Don't get up. I'm gonna grab a shower. You made me all sweaty." which is followed by Zoe saying. " I regret Nothing." There is a lot of action in this book and Zoe is put to test when she is abducted and drugged. She was quite the tigress and actually takes a chunk out of the villain's neck. I mean when you find out his intentions for her the chills run up your spine. He is one nasty SOB. There are two main sex scenes and it does include bondage but it is hot. I have not checked out what the last book in the series is about but as long as the whole gang is there it will be a delight. Enjoy!!

This action packed story kept me on the edge of my seat. Clay Bauer is an FBI agent attending a security convention in New Orleans when he sees Zoe again. He’s known Zoe for years and although he’s always been attracted to her, he keeps his distance because she’s his best friend’s cousin and he doesn’t want to hurt her. Unfortunately, Clay’s ex wife changed his outlook on all women, and since his disastrous marriage, he doesn’t have any interest in getting involved with anyone. I liked Clay. He’s a big, alpha male and very protective of Zoe, although he has a hard time letting anyone in.

Zoe is a former attorney, who now writes romance novels and also volunteers at a woman’s shelter. Zoe gets into trouble when she tries to help a woman break away from an abusive relationship and the woman’s boyfriend causes trouble. Zoe is a quirky, colorful character, who loves everything Goth and dresses the part. I admired her confidence, independent spirit and how she always says what’s on her mind.

Kaylea Cross knows how to write a story filled with suspense and passion. While Clay tries to protect Zoe from someone who is after her, he finds it difficult to resist her. Zoe can see beyond Clay’s rough edges and sees a tortured man who can also be caring, but is afraid to let his guard down. Clay’s a man who needs to be in control and although this is something new to Zoe, she discovers she likes it. This story kept my interest and I was never sure who the bad guys were until the end. This is the third book in The Hostage Rescue Team series and each one is a stand-alone.

Kaylea Cross's Hunted brings 2 very, very different people - a former Seal turned FBI and a Goth romance-horror writer - together. Clay and Zoe had been introduced to us in Targeted, but a security conference and a domestic abuse case blown wide open reunite them in New Orleans. Clay and Zoe do burn up the sheets and with their story already set up in the previous book, their blatant need for each other is pretty much present from the onset, although the sexy times are less risque here than the hot, steamy one in the Titanium series.

Clay's issues with his previous marriage, hinted at in Targeted, are brought to the fore here and it's his journey towards acceptance and peace that's a consistent thread in this story, along with the racketing action and suspense that amps up somewhere at the halfway point.

Cross's HRT series certainly picks up pace and momentum the further along we get. I wasn't too convinced with the first book Marked, but 3 books in and I find myself getting quite invested in her team of characters. But perhaps the biggest (and best-kept) surprise was to see cameos of the Titanium guys in this book and the little hints Kaylea Cross has dropped about how they've been getting on. The intriguing scene between 'B', Alex Rycroft and Matt DeLuca already makes me want to know how this is going to go down in her next book.

Kaylea Cross is one of my auto-purchase authors and I love all of her hero’s/heroines.

Clay was blind-sided in the past by his ex-wife, so that has caused him to be weary of women and to write-off all women. Well, all women, except for the one that’s off limits to him because of who she is – his partners cousin Zoe. He wants her but knows that he is no good for her and thinks he will hurt her in the end.

Zoe doesn’t know much about what happened between Clay and his ex-wife, but she knows enough to know that it didn’t end well and that he was damaged because of it. Zoe is a writer and volunteers at a women’s shelter. She puts all of her desires about Clay into her books and sends them to him to read for her, which he does. The things that she wants to experience with Clay are in danger of not happening when her life is in danger because of her connections to a lady that she is helping at the shelter.

Clay thinks he has lost Zoe and Zoe thinks that she is going to die before experiencing her desires with Clay. Will they experience these desires together? You must read Hunted to see what happens, but just let me tell you that it will keep you hanging on to the edge of your seat for the entire ride.

I really loved HUNTED because I loved Zoe and Clay so much, especially as a couple! I was intrigued with Clay when we met him in the first book of the series because he's clearly the tall, dark, and mysterious type. He doesn't talk much, has a lot of emotional baggage, and doesn't trust easily. But even with all the darkness surrounding Clay's circumstances the protective, soft heart he tries to hide inside is still there and evident. In contrast, Zoe is open, giving, and dedicated to helping others in need, especially through her volunteer work at a women's shelter. She's also a total goth and I loved having such a different character because I think this is the first time I've read a book with a goth heroine.

Together, Clay and Zoe burn up the pages while also bringing something really sweet to their relationship. I will admit I was expecting a bit more with all of Clay's claims of liking rough and dark sex but even if things were not too crazy, they were still hot. And of course, it wouldn't be a Kaylea Cross book without lots of action and suspense. We even had a new character, B, and I can't wait to learn more about her and see how she shakes up Matt's life.

I thought Clay and Zoe would make an interesting couple when they appeared and sort of flirted in the last book. It was fun watching them do the dance in this book, to see Clay do the subtle "mine, hands off" gestures to the guys in his team, how his BFF who is also Zoe's cousin, warn Zoe about Clay. The thing is that they worked. She admired his strength, while he admired her quirkiness. I could have done with out the battered woman on the run, but then how else could we have gotten the HRT in. I did love how this one ended, loved that Zoe's suit porn made it into her life.

I find myself very intrigued by Matt and B and their interactions. I hope they have their own book soon.

Great book, heavy on the action and suspense with a perfect amount of romance. I love Zoe and her sass and knowing exactly what she wanted. I would have like to have seen more of Clay's dominate side, but what we did see was amazing. He was the perfect guy for Zoe. Now I have to wait till next year to read the next book, Matt and the mysterious B (if I tell you about her, I'd have to kill you).

I loved this book a lot more than I thought I would - not saying that I thought I wouldn't like it. Clay and Zoe. Man, I love their story. Both jaded from divorces and one not wanting to try again made this a fun story.

Clay was jaded and vowed never to find love again. Until Zoe entered his life in Targeted. She might be a little jaded too but she was willing to try. And she saw Clay as not only a challenge but she instantly felt connected and attracted to him. Try as he might, Clay was unable to get Zoe out from under his skin and he realized how important she'd become in his life when she was kidnapped by an undercover agent gone bad.

When Zoe agreed to help her friend leave her abusive boyfriend, she never knew the harm that would come her way. When Carlos realized that his girlfriend had fled, he figured out that Zoe was the one that convinced her and Zoe would be the one that would get her back for him. And then he intended to kill her because that's what bad guys always plan to do right?

Of course once Clay and his teammates realized she'd been taken, they moved heaven and earth to find her. And let me say, as a reader that knows happily ever afters come with these books, I had trouble seeing how this would all end well. I actually found myself on the edge of my seat. No spoilers here as to what happened and how that happily ever after came to be - read it for yourself.

Yep, I loved Clay and Zoe's story. They're a hot couple and the action was excellent. I've love to get in Kaylea Cross's head to figure out how she plans out these stories. For now, on to book four!

Fabulous characters and exciting suspenseful plot. Both characters have pasts that weren't good, for Clay his turned extremely nasty and his trust in women and relationships is gone, one woman though is testing that and pushing his boundaries, when a threat against her becomes real he will do whatever he can to keep her safe. Not sure how I missed this one since I've read most of this series but realised I had, so now I've dived in, consumed it and soaked up all the danger and the love as well as the suit porn. Once you find the right person to be by your side you stop at nothing to keep it, this couples fight was real, it was harrowing at times and hot at others, both are strong but Raven is the stronger, she knows what she wants and feels the risk is worth being vulnerable for. Amazing story of survival and second chances.

Well , I really like Zoe as a person. She is really different. I liked her attitude and personality., however, I personally prefer her to not be a Goth! I'm was born and raised in New Orleans! I am very familiar with weird individuals.( The Goths & those who also practice Voodoo to this day on the courthouse steps). The Goths really dress as they do for the attention they crave even though they act like they couldn't care less what people think of them. Not true .T.hey love shocking people for attention. This story was good but not my favorite. The Locations are accurate and has a good feel of Louisiana. If you can ignore a well educated and charming individual being o little odd then this book is for you.

Clay and Zoe's story was just wow! Clay Bauer had been intriguing to me seems book one. His story did not disappoint. It was sad to know what his past held that had made him so jaded. I did want to know what finally ended up happening to Eve, that disappointed me and for that reason I could not give it five stars. What happened during the trial, was there one, did she get what she deserved? I guess we will never know.

If anyone could fix Clay it would be our goth girl Zoe! I felt really bad for her. She had to physically endure so much.

Still overall a good read.

This one was harder to read than any of the other books by this author I’ve read so far. It’s darker, grittier and the dark grittiness goes on much longer than usual which leaves the reader literally hanging on the edge for a good portion of the book. My only nit would be that Zoe went through this unimaginable hell and didn’t need counseling to deal with it? I’d have liked some mention had been made of that need.
But still an amazing story.

Good book except the beginning. Clay's ex is a bitch & those cops are idiots for judging him when they don't even know all the facts. They should know not everything as it seems, women can be evil bitches just like men. So don't judge until you get the FULL story. Cops should know better unless they are dirty then they always see the worst in the good guys, which those in lock-up obviously were. There has to be a better way to detect dirty cops before they do too much damage to society.

I just loved Clay and Zoe's story. Zoe is very unique and confident. Clay is very conventional and pessimistic. He has repeatedly turned her advances down. Who better than Zoe to help Clay start living again. When Zoe is kidnapped, Clay realizes he has fallen for Zoe. But will he be able to save her in time? It's a must read, you'll have a hard time putting it down.

This book isn't badly written it's just not what I expected. I really like the hostage rescue team aspects and that really didn't come into play until the very end. I didn't expect this book to be about a battered woman on the run and that's just not my favorite plot to read about. So while I can see why a lot of people loved this book it just wasn't for me.

Clay and Zoe.

Clay is hurt, and distrustful of women. His ex really destroyed him. Zoe is a very free spirit. She loves Goth. She has been chipping away at his shields for months. She finally gets him to lower his shields when all back broke out and its up to the Team to get her out. Who is B? Very curious.
