First published in 1960, 'Showdown Trail' is a short Western novel with a plot involving the familiar setting of ranches and rustlers. The plot is often fairly predictable - for example the villain is quite obvious from chapter 1 and yet the good guys take until chapter 15 to guess this, just so that the story can last the journey. That said, predictable plots are common in Westerns and in this case it is amply made up for by excellent writing with some engaging characters.
