Sexy fashionista Gabrielle Russell has been challenging Nick Ross most of his life and now is no exception. A top financial analyst, Nick has been dating his boss's daughter and he's on the fast track to turning his five-year marathon into a three-year sprint. But life throws him a curve when he finds his perfect girlfriend curled up in a very un-zen like position with her yoga instructor. Faced with this awkward downward dog, Nick heads to the only place he can think of - his brother Steve's place - only to be stuck face to hips, thighs, lips, just about everything with his roommate, Gabby. She's the habit Nick just can't shake. The one that got away and she won't let him forget it.
Gabrielle is frustrated. She's been banging it out for years as a curvy girl trying to make her creative mark on the exclusive world of New York fashion and she's hit a brick wall both personally and professionally. Now stuck in a dead end job designing jersey pantsuits for wannabe mafia wives while dodging the advances of her boss's son, she doesn't know how to get out of the hole she's dug for herself. At least she has a bit of peace in the small apartment she shares with her childhood friend and roommate, Steve.
Or she did until Nick Ross - Mr. Perfection and her own devastation, the one who broke her heart and almost broke her spirit - walked in. And now he's back and looking for a place to camp out while he gets his life back on track. Well, she's got news for him: She's not the same girl she was all those years ago when just a look would send her heart stuttering. Okay, maybe she is, but now maybe it's time the tables were turned on the unflappable Nick Ross.
Threads Of Desire was originally published through Crimson Romance. Sensuality Level: Sensual
USA Today bestselling author and native New Yorker Kwana Jackson aka K.M Jackson spent her formative years on the A train where she had two dreams: (1) to be a fashion designer and (2) to be a writer. After spending more than ten years designing women’s sportswear for various fashion houses, Kwana took a leap of faith and decided to pursue her other dream of being a writer. A longtime advocate of equality and diversity in romance (#WeNeedDiverseRomance), Kwana is the mother of twins and currently lives in a suburb of New York with her husband. Gabby Russell is a frustrated fashion designer working for a design firm that doesn't appreciate her work. She rooms with struggling actor Steve Ross. He and his brother Nick were childhood friends of Gabby's. Unbeknownst to Steve, Nick was something much, much more to Gabby--the man who broke her heart with his cold rejection.
Now Nick is at his brother's front door, drunk and in despair because he found his girlfriend in a compromising situation in the apartment they shared. When Steve gets a job out of town, he turns over his room to Nick, leaving Gabby to deal with her unresolved feelings for Nick--and the attraction that's only all too evident for both of them.
A fan of Jackson's other two books, I wasn't disappointed with this one. I like the way she used the dark, the absence of light, to represent Gabby's view of herself, the means of her humiliation as well as the way she and Nick come together.
I really enjoyed this story. The hopeless romantic that i am Loved the way the lead characters were unraveled to us by using flashbacks throughout the unfolding of present time events. We also get realistic characters with all of the complexities we earthbound humans possess. Competitiveness, self esteem issues and dealing with the generational baggage that many carry from their parents all while both are per-suing their dreams among professional leaches! K.M has written yet another great love story!
This is one neck of a sexy sizzling romance. This is the story of two doing what they need to do and in the process not compromise their principles. It's about the way we view ourselves and what others think.I love when a beautiful black woman knows herself, what she wants, not afraid to reach out and take the brass ring and more importantly when to fold and except love and help. This is a wonderful grown-up love story, with quite a few sexy moments and not mention quite a few laugh out loud moments.Really good read to a really good series.
Threads of Desire by K.M. Jackson was an enjoyable and entertaining read. I really loved Gabrielle and Nick's attempt at trying to avoid each other. But when love in involved, you can't fight it. A romantic and comical look at a fashionista who is fed up with the way she is treated in her professional and personal life. A good book to add to your romance collection.
The first line in “Threads of Desire" by K. M. Jackson had me immediately connected to the heroine. How many women have regretted wasting their fashion model runway walk on a sleazy guy? How many of us have suffered through a hellish date for a free steak? I know a lot of you are nodding your heads right now. This is only the icing on the delicious cake that Jackson serves her readers.
If you don't know about this book, let me give you a quick rundown. This is the third book in the Creative Hearts series. Oh, don't worry if you haven't read the previous two. Neither had I. Each book in the series deals with a different couple, so readers won't feel lost reading out of turn. For the fans who have read book 1 and 2, there are cameos from your favorite past characters.
In this story, we have Gabrielle Russell and Nick Ross. Their complicated history makes it difficult for them to be in the same room without fighting. Something that is made worse by their sexual attraction to each other. And the extra cherry on top is that Nick is Gabrielle‘s best friend/roommate's brother.
Being a curvy woman, Gabrielle shares her inner thoughts with the reader about her insecurities and doubts that Nick could actually be interested in her. She is far from the rich, skinny woman he runs with. Despite this, sparks between the two lit up.
Then, Jackson turns up the heat when she puts her characters alone in a tiny apartment during a blackout. This is a ripe environment to put two people into a vacuum where they must face their issues and heavy attraction for one another. As you can imagine, everything becomes hot and heavy in the right spots.
Overall, I thought the novel was okay. Don't get me wrong the writing was great. Characterization was on point. Dialogue worked well. It had all the elements of a good story. However, personally, I prefer more action happening in my novels. The majority of the book took place in the apartment. I know that setting was needed to open the hero and heroine up but I thought the novel should have explored how they would face up outside the security of the apartment.
Still, I'd recommend the book for a great quick summer read,
There were surprisingly few unread books on my Kindle with less than 20 reviews, but Threads of Desire (Creative Hearts Book 3) by K.M. Jackson was one of them. I have not read the previous two books in the Creative Hearts series, but that didn't matter. Threads of Desire works as a stand alone, but I suspect there are some Easter Eggs for those who have read the first two in the series.
I Threads of Desire is a contemporary romance with a friends to lovers trope and is the sort of story that can only take place in New York City, and I mean that in the best possible way. The heroine, Gabby, works in the fashion industry, and the hero, Nick, is in finance. The author, K.M. Jackson presents a lived in New York City that is realistic and reminds me of what I miss from the brief time I lived in the NYC area. The city was my second favorite character in the book, behind Gabby.
So often in the romance genre, the characters are all fabulously wealthy and successful, or at least the hero is. Part of my enjoyment in this book came from the characters' professional struggles, which made them far more relatable than a billionaire-vampire-shiek. I particularly found myself drawn to Gabby, a curvy designer in the size zero fashion world. The author doesn't reveal Gabby's size and she doesn't need to. I love that Gabby is happy and confident with who she is physically. She doesn't need to lose weight to fit into some off the rack dress. Gabby makes her own style. The author's description of design and fabrics seemed to come from a place of knowledge that ran deeper than watching a few episodes of "Project Runway." Threads of Desire tapped into the same awe I get when watching "Project Runway." I may not be fashionable myself, but I love witnessing creativity at work. This book gave me a glimpse behind the curtain.
I didn't love the hero in quite the same way as I did other aspects of the book. But all in all, this was an enjoyable by an author I'll seek out again. I discovered I have another book by K.M. Jackson on my kindle, Bounce. The short tease for Bounce offered at the end of Threads of Desire has earned that book a promotion to the top of my to-be-read list once I'm through with the January Project. Bounce has a lot of great reviews already. This review also appears on my blog.
I've read all three books in this series, and I must say this was indeed my favorite! The heroine in the 1st book (Mika) was alright, although her back and forth attitude really incensed me, although I could somewhat understand Ale the hottie. I absolutely hated the heroine in the 2nd book (Sam), but I absolutely loved Mark, he reminded me of Wesley from The Princess Bride. Now this 3rd installment was absolutely divine!! I always gauge how good a book is by the amount of times I want to go back and re-read certain scenes, and honey lemme tell you, it took me ages to read because I kept having to go back and re-read so many parts!! I love Gabby and I loved Nick, I loved everything about the tug of war between these two, this one is definitely going in my re-read again someday pile!
I really like this author but I couldn't get into this story at all. The heroine was pretty much everything I hate in a character: a ball-breaker with repetitive internal monologues and a lack of perspective. I much preferred the couple in book 1.
Reading this book I was going back and forth over how I wanted it to end. The ending was better then I expected! This author has been added to my favorite list. Off to purchase more of her books!
