John Kurtze Review of “Bone Cold” by Debra Webb

“Bone Cold” by Debra Webb has a story line that grabs readers and takes them on a trip through the lives of families whose children have been abducted. The key protagonist Lt. Sarah Cuddahy is the lead investigator and she hasn’t a clue as to the children’s whereabouts. Sarah knows what questions to ask. They are the same questions she answered during the investigation of the abduction of her own daughter.

Debra Webb introduces her readers to the horrors parents experience as they deal with the abduction of their children. The pace of the plot increases with the turn of each page. Webb shows us and helps us understand what motivates Lt. Sarah Cuddahy as she proceeds in her search for the missing children.
Readers see Webb developing the story’s mystery, suspense and intrigue. Each new clue quickens the pace of the plot. When Sarah’s boss asks her to work with her estranged husband she is reluctant as she sees in Tom’s eyes the truth to the loss of Sophia their daughter. Tom is sure the case he is investigating will help find the missing children. He needs Sarah’s help. Sarah and Tom set out to follow a new direction for the investigation. As the story progresses, we find key support characters both protagonists and antagonists and their back stories explain their role in Webb’s spell binding mystery.

“Bone Cold’s” intriguing plot changes direction several times. Webb places readers on the shoulders of Sarah and Tom and they see the investigation through their eyes. Their investigation involves secrets of scientific experiments, manipulation of people, murder, taking of hostages, rogue investigators, corrupt politics, power, control, and romance.

Webb helps her readers understand Sarah’s commitment to find the missing children and to uncover who is behind the kidnappings. Webb is a master of taking her readers into uncharted waters on social issues and then delivers an unpredictable ending. Everything comes to a surprising bone chilling conclusion. “Bone Cold” is a must read and earn a 5 star ranking.

Bone Cold will definitely chill you to the bone! Webb has outdone herself with this dark and chilling nightmarish tale. Be forewarned that there’s somewhat of a “science fiction” feel to it – which only added to the sinister plot.

A parent’s worst nightmare comes true when children start disappearing without a trace. Working as a member of the Task Force investigating the cases, DC Police Lt. Sarah Cuddahy is all too familiar with exactly what these parents are experiencing because her daughter was taken five years ago and never found.

Sarah’s soon-to-be ex husband shares the painful experience of losing his only child and the destructive aftermath to his marriage. FBI Agent Tom Cuddahy sees similar patterns in the current missing children’s cases with an old case he worked on. And as the cases criss-cross, Sarah and Tom are thrown together in solving both.

This is a fast-moving, ultra suspense-filled crime package that you’ll be unable to stop reading until the last word. Debra Webb is a master at holding readers’ emotions hostage with her skillfully drawn scenarios and the well-developed characters – both the good guys and the bad one, as well.

My biggest complaint here is that readers are left wondering what happens once the case is solved and life is supposed to return to normal. How do you just pick up and move on? What are the aftershocks of something so horrendous? Is there really a happily-ever-after for one and all? Will we revisit these characters at a later date?

Bone Cold by Debra Webb is a story that gives you chills and is the nightmare every parent worries about; your child being taken.

Lieutenant Sarah Cuddahy is on the Task Force looking into the children who have been disappearing. They believe Sarah is the best person to help since five years ago Sarah’s daughter Sophie went missing. Sarah’s life hasn’t been the same. The hurt and depression are still there. She tries to control the panic attacks that have plagued her and not let anyone see her when she is experiencing one. Sarah has never given up hope that Sophie will be found one day. Carla Parson’s son Josh went missing a week apart from Sophie and she has never given up hope either. Sarah’s husband, Tom, who is with the FBI, grieved as well, but accepted the loss of Sophie to be able to move forward. With too much grief and the distance in their marriage, Tom left. He couldn’t watch the pain and suffering as Sarah fell apart.

Now Tom has been called in on the case and he and Sarah have to work together to try and stop the abductions of prominent people’s children. The more they investigate the more complicated the answers become. They want to stop whoever it is behind this and return the children back home to their parents. Who is taking the children and why? Where could they be taking them?

Debra Webb writes books that are hard to put down as they pull you into the story and make you want to find out what happens next. I started reading this book and did not put it down until the early hours of the morning. It’s a great story!

It has been 5 years since Detective Sarah Cuddahy's daughter vanished into thin air, and she still blames herself for not being able to find her. In the aftermath, she lost a whole lot more .... her husband, Special Agent Tom Cuddahy, who she ruthlessly pushed away.

Sarah is now back on the job, but still taking meds for panic attacks which crop up almost on a daily basis. She has to pull herself together because the job is all she has ...and there have been 6 child abductions in the last few weeks. There are no clues, no ransom notes, and no bodies.

When the FBI steps in, wouldn't you just know it's her almost ex who is slated to work her case. Working together and trying to keep things on a non-personal level, they discover there are some connections among all these children.

They all come from rich families, they were all born in the same hospital, and they all have a sibling that was killed approximately a year before they were born.

I had an idea of what was coming ... but it was so much more than what I had imagined. The characters weren't perfect, but that's why I liked them. The storyline was mostly believable. Very good reading.

I'm giving it 5 stars because I've always found Debra Webb's writing to be satisfying..and this one does not disappoint at all.

In Bone Cold, Webb crafts a story featuring a minor character from Bone Deep, FBI Agent Tom Cuddahy. Horrified by what he witnessed in Paradise, and trying to move forward from the abduction of his daughter five years ago, Cuddahy throws himself into the search for the last missing brother. In the meantime, his estranged wife Sarah, a Detective, is working a child abduction case. The two seemingly unrelated cases are on a collision course bringing Tom and Sarah back together. When Tom and Sarah begin working together they are far more successful than each on their own. Together they are able to solve the mystery and bring the mastermind to justice.

Webb brings her masterful use of suspense to this new novel. Taking on issues as sensitive as child abduction and cloning, Webb treats both subjects with grace and understanding. Her latest novel takes readers on quite a ride. While it is nice to have read Bone Deep first, it is not necessary to fully enjoy this novel. If you haven’t read any of Webb’s novels yet, this is a good place to start. If you are a long-time fan you will not be disappointed.

This book just keeps getting more intense. It is a stand alone but follows Debra Webb's Bone Deep. It's not necessary that you read Bone Deep first buy you are going to want to go back and read it after you finish this one, I promises you that! :-)
This book will grab you fast. Missing children and the detective on the case has lost a child in the same way five years before. She is still fighting those demons when she is dropped right in the middle of the investigation. With the assistance of her estranged husband an FBI agent who knows more then he is saying they work together to bring these children home! INTENSE!

Debra Webb leaves you hanging by the seat of your pants again in her book Bone Cold. You start out with kidnappings of 2 5 yr. olds 5 years prior to the start of the story. Now there are more kidnappings happening and when all is said and done at the end of the book you can never have foreseen the finale. I have to see I have not been disappointed in any of Debs books. She just keeps me wanting more.

Tom and Sarah Cuddahys child was taken five years ago. She has never been found. Sarah blames herself and it has torn their marriage apart. Sarah has dedicated herself to work as a police detective. Her husband Tom is an FBI agent. When children start disappearing Sarah is put on the case and Tom shows up with information he is only willing to partially share about what might be happening to the children. This book grabbed me right from the beginning and held my interest until the very end!!!

I enjoyed this book with all the twist and turn it had. It is scary when one thinks something like this could be going on. Then one would have to ask if it would be a good thing or a bad thing to be able to clone those we love to get them back if we loose them when they are young and will they really be exactly like the first person? That is what I walked away from this book thinking about. Anyway, enough of my deep thoughts this book provoked. This was another excellent book by Webb.

Bone Cold is a suspenseful must read book! Ms. Webb is a masterful story teller and has created characters that come alive on the page. Once I started reading I could not put it down! Bone Cold is one of the best written books that I have read in a long time. Even though this is a stand-alone book, I would also recommend reading Bone Deep. You will never be disappointed with a Debra Webb story.

As I read more and more from Debra Webb, I am amazed at how each new story is different, but just as spell-binding as the others. I received this book as a gift, and just started to breeze through it. That didn't happen! The story gripped me by the throat and wouldn't release me until I had stayed up all night to finish it.

At the heart of the story is every parent's nightmare: the abduction of a young child without a trace or a clue. The story dips into what a parent that lost a child might do, whether legal, ethical or not. I won't spoil the story with hints of the many surprises it holds, but I will say that the character interactions are well-portrayed and quite compelling. The emotional pain is shared by the reader as the action continues. This story will stay with you long after you finish the book.

This review is from: Bone Cold (Kindle Edition)

Always love a good Debra Webb book and this is another one. This book takes us thru the hunt for 6 missing children, the lead investigator and her estranged husband, who is brought onto the case against her wishes, the mind of a psychotic scientist and why this is all ultimately happening.
The fact that the lead investigator and her estranged husband have also had their daughter kidnapped 6 years before just adds to the story.

Bone Cold, is continue from were Bone Deep, left off, with FBI Agent Tom Cuddahy, dealing with trying to move forward from the abduction of his daughter that happen five years ago. In the meantime, his estranged wife Sarah, who is a Detective, is working on several child abduction cases. These two seemingly unrelated cases are on a collision course that will bringing Tom and Sarah back together. When Tom and Sarah begin working together will they be able to solve the mystery and bring the persons who mastermind to justice.

As always Debra Webb, is able to take a very sensitive issue with the subject of child abduction that include cloning. You do not need to read Bone Deep first, to fully enjoy this story. Debra, has never disappointed me with any of her books. If you are a longtime fan as I am you will not be disappointed.

Another suspenseful read, I finished in two days because I couldn't put it down. Tom and Sarah's daughter went missing five years ago and their marriage fell apart. The only thing keeping them going is their jobs and then they get stuck together on a case. Now up to seven children have gone missing and Sarah is determined to do what she couldn't do for herself, find the missing children. Tom has a lead on what is happening to them, but will anyone believe something that sinister can actually be happening to them. You can read this as a stand alone novel, but you will want to read Bone Deep to get even more background on the story. You won't be disappointed to read both of them!!

Once again Debra has written a really great book. It has suspense, drama and romance. Sarah is trying to get over losing her daughter and trying to find the other children that are now missing. In doing this she has to work with her husband Tom that she has not been together with in the years since their daughter went missing. They have to work their way through all the twists and turns that the terrible people doing this are throwing in their way but in the end they are able to come together as a family and also find the other missing children. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time you are reading it.

A great paced read

This is my first Debra Webb book and will not be the last. I like how quickly the story moved. The characters were believable and made me want the story to end in their favor. On to another by this author.

I wanted to love this one as much as the first in the series, but it just didn't happen. In the first I was able to suspend disbelief and enjoy the book. In this one, I just found it hard to buy into.

A pretty interesting suspense with a slow burn second chance romance between the lead detective and her estranged husband, an FBI agent. Well written. Children are being abducted and they are running out of time to find them. 3.5 stars.

This was, apparently, one of the first books this author penned (2014) and so while the plot was good, the actual story telling had an 'immaturity' about it. Interesting enough but it didn't pull me into it, and the characters were a little flat and stereotyped.

These are quite good, but the third book should be labeled a short time. I wasn't prepared for it to end so abruptly. Why?

What is it like to have your child abducted?

My son's were abducted by a professional called Mean Gene. He called himself helping a father who had been "wronged by the courts" for a mere " $3,000 per head". Our story was the first parental abduction to receive international media attention. The press vilified me and the police protected him. I was abandoned by both families. My boss threatened to fire me because my clients were so concerned for me. I read this book to learn whether the author knew the depth of suffering I had, and still do experience. She did. the book was cathartic, but she generously omitted the suffering of the children with a thin fiction which also omitted the complicity of law and government. Read this for the characters of the mother and father. Then research the facts on child abductions. Purebred animals are better protected!

First and foremost, having your characters frequently state, "This is so unbelievable!" doesn't make what you're writing more believable. Secondly, the main character fluctuated between only two states: she was either depressed about losing her child or lusting after her husband. Needless to say, that didn't make for very interesting reading. In short, I don't think this was a very well written book. That being said, it wasn't the most terrible thing I've ever read. So, that's something.

As always, Debra Webb knows how to weave a story that keeps you captivated. Detective Sarah Cuddahy lost her daughter five years ago. She blames herself for this. Special Agent Tom Cuddahy and Sarah were married, and the disappearance of their daughter tore their marriage apart. When six more children go missing, they team up to try to find them before it's too late. A can't-put-down book!
